"Nice cheap hotel, great location"
07/09/14 SoundsGood16 Greenville, South Carolina
We stayed at Hacienda Mariposa for 4 nights and had a pleasant stay. The room was clean and comfortable overall. The hotel shares a building with an Italian restaurant, and the hotel rooms on the second and third floors have inward-facing balconies that look down on the restaurant. This means that evenings can be a bit noisy (especially with World Cup games going on), but on weekdays it was quiet by 11:30pm or so. On weekends there was quite a bit of noise until around 1am. If you normally stay up till midnight anyway the noise is not a problem. The walls are also pretty thin, so we could hear every move our next-door neighbor made. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the air conditioning worked fine, the shower was hot, and overall we had a nice stay. The location is great--it's just a few steps off of 5th avenue, 5 minutes from the beach and 10 minutes from the Mega Comercial grocery store. If you're coming from the ADO bus station though, be aware that you'll need to walk a good 10-15 minutes down 5th avenue to get to the hotel, which can be a hassle if you're dragging luggage.
"A great time"

Normally I would have given this place a 4 star, because it can be noisy. With the cafe in the middle a couple of the nights were busy. What gave it a five though, is the staff especially Maria. She was so helpful and pleasant.
"Great hotel but soooo noisy!"

Wrong choice of hotel if you want to sleep before midnight! Everything else was great. Maria the lady that stays by the desk was very friendly and made me feel welcome as soon as I got there. The rooms are small but nice and beds and pillows are better than other places I have stayed in. The location is close enough to walk to things if not right where the beach is. OK for the negatives. A few times I came back and there was no one around to hand my key back, which is ok if they had a buzzer system but they don't, so had to climb over the desk twice in my stay to get the key. The place circles a busy Italian restaurant, which does have tasty food, however I came to playa to get up early and do tours so wanted to sleep around 11 both nights but the restaurant makes this nearly impossible even with ear plugs. One night they had Mexican singers and guitar players coming in late then the clearing away starts around 11.30, with screeching of the tables and cutlery banging. Had to take a sleeping tablet both nights. If you have a tolerance to noise or plan on partying past midnight then this hotel is great. If not I would recommend somewhere else less noisy.

We just spent 6 great days at Hacienda Mariposa. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and fresh. Great location only a few steps from the beach. Our room included breakfast at the Vagabunda .
"Nice inner courtyard, but dark, small rooms. Expensive for what you get."

We did not really enjoy our stay in Playa del Carmen, Playa itself is very crowded with tourists. The hotel has a very nice courtyard which really is as nice as in the pictures, however the room we had was very small and dark and the bathroom was not very clean, also there was no warm water. It´s very expensive for what you get and if we would ever want to visit Playa again, we would not stay in Playa itself but in Cozumel, here hotels (and restaurants) are cheaper and we liked the atmosphere a lot better.

This place has a GREAT location. Other than that it's pretty weak. LOUD. Really loud. Luckily I was partying it up in Playa most of the time or at a friend's who lives down here so it didn't matter much, but man the one night I needed sleep the damned restaurant in the middle was open til like midnight blasting music. The windows don't lock to block out noise. I also didn't have hot water for two days. Cute huh? My trip was fine due to my buddy living down here, but if I was on my own I'd feel SERIOUSLY ripped off.
"this hotel is a complete scam do not stay here!!!"

i'm currently staying at the hacienda mariposa and i'm very very very unhappy. it is 11:00 pm and i would like to be sleeping but instead Iam wide awake due to the unending and persistent noise of the restaurant in the center of the hotel. i have been coming to the yucatan for the past 15 years and this is the most expensive hotel i have ever stayed in, it is also the ugliest, noisiest, & HAS THE tiniest ROOMS as well. i had booked another hotel last week and when i arrived they could not find the reservation so i had to book the hacienda last minute. WHAT A MISTAKE!!! DON'T EVER MAKE THE SAME ONE AS I HAVE. the room is $315.00 per night plus taxes. it is the size of a small matchbox. the walls are concrete and feel like a prison block. the bathroom window does not close and there is hot air constantly blowing through it due to the exhaust fan in the kitchen directly underneath it . the exhaust fan rumbles and shakes the entire room. at 7 pm when i arrived i got to hear 100 people below me talking and eating dinner, chair scraping, etc. etc. it is now midnight and u can hear every table being set, every piece of silverware being put out, glass and dishes stacked. dishes scraped. it is endless ugly noise. there is no sound barrier between the door of the room and the complete restaurant. i feel i'm sleeping in the middle of a restaurant.. wait a minute, i am sleeping in the middle of a restaurant!!! who ever owns this hotel should come to room 10 and spend one night and then see how he/she can actually justify charging anything for the night. it is a complete nightmare.. i have traveled all over the world and last summer stayed in amazing 5 star hotels from italy to montenegro and croatia. none of them were over $250.00 per night and they were heaven with views to die for. breakfasts that were unending. hacienda mariposa does not even include breakfast. does not include towels or beach chairs. there is no pool there is no view. there is not even a mini bar but only an empty fridge. there is nothing here but an exhaust fan that shakes the room and makes u feel u r under the boiler room on a ship there is nothing but endless noise and disappoint me. this is my splurge hotel for xmass vacation and i feel i have been really scammed. i'm going to call my bank and credit card to dispute the charges for this is not right... i spent the last week in south of playa del carmen in a fantastic small town called mahahual. the small beach bungalow i stayed in for 7 nights was right on the beach. is was beautiful. it was $300.00 for the entire 7 nights!!! this room is the same price for one night.
"If you want to feel unwelcome, go there!"

I just came back from vacations at this hotel with my family and to be honest the only good thing it has is the location. For the rest I can say it is awful or average if not less, definitely not worth your money... Not recommended at all if you intend to sleep, of course there is noise in the street when you are in the center and near the main touristic street but this hotel has a restaurant in the middle of the room area so you will hear noise from street plus noise from restaurant whole night without mentioning that one night, they wake us up at 3:30 am drunk people, fighting, yelling, throwing glasses, dishes, dragging chairs and tables like crazy and no one stop them like for half an hour!! And next day when I asked what happened, no explanation and no apologies just avoiding the subject... completely unacceptable!!! About the welcoming, I can say it was the most awful welcoming I have ever experience in any hotel, hostel ever!! When we arrived first day, no happy face or smile or hello, how can I help you or welcome!! at all... nothing, nula!!, the guy that checked us in was completely unexpressive, unwelcoming, had us waiting like idiots in the entrance not sure if we had payed or not, not saying nothing, just looking at computer, our reservation back and forward and for not making the story long, finally after showing electronic confirmation give us keys. Not very nice way to start your trip... specially when you already payed and at least a fake smile wouldn't hurt, right? Plus, I had family visiting 1st time Mexico and that was not the way I wanted them to see my country! Rest of staff, "kind", "smilely" but nothing special... When arriving giant cockroach in the reception :S and another our first night in the room... cleaning was done everyday normally... food in the restaurant below was good and if you are not staying with them I bet you would find the place like a nice place to have dinner... They ask for a deposit but don't take you to check the room before, in which state they are giving it to you... remote control and ac control are there already... tv control didn't work or did not had batteries... 5 min walk to Mamitas beach... In conclusion, I don't consider the location enough reason to sacrifice your stay in Playa, probably you will be able to find something better, close (as this one) or farther but where they treat you properly.

Location can`t be beatean, but everything else is poor to horrible. Hotel is equipped with free wifi that barely works. Staff is unfriendly and gives impression like they don`t look forward to guests. The worst thing about the hotel is that is located above Italian restaurant that makes a lot of noise unti early in the morning. Like that wasn`t enough, one night, until about 4 am, staff had a very loud party downstairs that didn`t let nobody sleep. Breaking dishes, glasses on the floor as well as constantly moving chairs and tables around the ground floor was part of their repertoar. Hotel that I wouldn`t recommend.
"Good location, nice rooms"
11/07/13 Gabzuna London, United Kingdom
Had a nice stay at the hacienda! One of the receptionists seemed to be a bit dodgy as over charged me for my laundry but other than that a friendly bunch. The room was cleaned everyday and you're only a 5 minute walk way from the beach.
