"Maid left the Window Wide Open"

"Somewhat of a let down"
When we arrived we walked in the front entrance and couldnt immediately figure out if we were in the lobby or not. We noticed three small podiums in a small space tucked behind the Hotel lounge. There was a couple waiting there but no hotel staff in sight, which added to the confusion of whether or not we were actually in the lobby. I think we expected more of an aesthetic design and space for the lobby since the hotel is pushing such an artistic motif and the Lobby really sets the tone for the whole experience. "Great for college-age"

The lighting in the rooms - especially the bathroom - is so bad. Impossible to put on makeup. They did have a poorly lit makeup mirror available, which was actually no help. The room service for breakfast was prompt, and overall good, but they put meat on a vegetarians plate, which would have ruined the entire meal if the vegetarian was more strict […] about being a vegetarian. "Style and location"

Hotel did not have spa service as advertised - they were remodeling. That was not told when booking room. At night it's loud - lots of traffic coming and going due to all the nightclubs around. I've always been a huge fan of the W brand of Starwood. This place did not disappoint. The restaurant Market was tasty and the bar lounge area provided great service and hip decor. My room was spacious and well laid out with a contemporary feel. Personally, I like the bar/club in the lobby, But for some folks not used to the W, they are a little surprised […] and not always please with that scenario when they are coming in from a long trip with alot of luggage. "fix the Air Conditioner"
I did like the hotel and the rating would have been higher but there were two issues that marred an otherwise very good visit. I rented two rooms. The first and most annoying issue was the air-conditioning in the room I stayed in. I requested on three separate occasions to have it fixed. The maintenance man did come and he did fiddle with it, but the […] room remained quite warm. The other room had an issue with the door, after several days I discovered it did not lock properly. Beds were great. We were travelling with our teenage sons so it is not really possible to stay in a room with 2 double beds. We either need 2 rooms or a room with 2 Queen beds. "Separated bathrooms please!"
I was surprised by this hotel. I had never stayed at a W before but had heard the buzz when the W Boston opened its doors. The glass tower makes a bold statement and the place seemed to be synonymous with comfort and quality. While comfortable and high quality, I found the whole W concept "whatever, whenever" to be quirky, unusual and frankly it didn't […] impact me during my stay as I have no unusual desires or needs when staying in a hotel. What did impact me (negatively) was the fact that there were only two busy elevators serving a 15-story hotel tower and the very odd, and even embarrassing transparent walls of the bathroom. I shared the hotel room with a friend visiting from Europe. While the quality of the hotel was nice and the rooms were very comfortable, if I had had any idea that only a transparent piece of art separated the bathroom from the bed/living area, I would NOT have chosen to stay at this hotel. We finished brunch early and called to request an early check in, they were able to make this happen and we arrived within ten minutes from our phone call. This is a modern hotel located at the edge of the theater district in Boston. Convenient walking to theaters, shopping, and the Boston Common. The rooms are very modern, and style sometimes trumps ease of use, for example the raised bowl in the sink looked nice, but was not very ergonomic, and the doorside light switches controlled interior lights so […] that it was difficult to turn on the bathroom lights without going to the door. The room was clean and modern rather than cozy or elegant. The bar downstairs was hopping on a Friday night with twenty-somethings, and breakfast in the hotel restaurant was first rate. Though this is not necessarily our taste (we are fifty-somethings), we were overall pleased with the stay and would go back, but only at a discounted ($240 or so) rate.
