First time stay in "Aloft Hotel". Very, very friendly staff, check in not super fast but I guess this is the style of the hotel. However when I had a small problem in the room it was lightening fast addressed and I was offered to comp the parking which I declined as I detest a "get something for free if you complain" culture. We enjoyed staying at the Aloft. It was quite compact - especially since we had just stayed in a suite at The Drury in San Antonio. However, there was a very efficient use of space and it met our needs for the 2 day stay. The bed was very comfortable. On the downside, I thought your pricing in your little refuel shop was quite expensive - 2.99 for a […] small bag of chips! The bar drinks were in line with other places and the bartender made a very good cosmo. I did like that we had the option to forego housekeeping for our second day and got a $5.00 credit for the refuel. I'd rather have been able to use it for my cosmo:) It was within walking distance of the Galleria which we needed. The front desk personnel were friendly, helpful and very efficient. The hotel is pretty nice with a wonderful neighborhood. My coffee maker was broken I called the reception to see how I could get another one but I was ignored by the person I talked to. No place to put our clothes.. we actually lived on our suitcases. Pool is very small. Besides that - very nice place, clean, modern and dog friendly but they ask you to be with your dog all time. Yes, our pool is a lap pool and that’s all it will ever be as most guests just want a quick dip in the humidity controlled pool area and sit listening to the eclectic jams playing 24 hours a day. We don’t mind your pet being crated while you are out but when they misbehave we have to ensure that other guests are not disturbed as well. Aloft was an overall nice hotel. The front desk staff was very friendly and welcoming. The lobby has computers for guest use, tv's and a pool table. There is also a bar in the lobby and guest can enjoy music during the evening hours. I found the room (King bed) to be a bit small, however we were comfortable. I did not like the parking garage. Houston is not a great town, but if you need to visit it then this is the best spot right by the Mall and all the restaurants. "Would not stay with this hotel brand again."
The decor was immediately uncomfortable, although I'm sure some would like it. It is very "urban/metrosexual", and even on the 3rd day I found it a bit jarring. (Hot pink billiards table in the lounge, rainbow light fixtures along hallways, club music in the elevators.) Staff was reasonably accomodating, although 2 things left me unhappy: (1) the door […] hanger offers a $5 discount for every day that one refuses housekeeping service. When I asked for my discount (while purchasing a salad) the manager informed me they were no longer giving the discount. When I reminded him that it is advertised in the rooms, he begrudgingly discounted my purchase and walked away. I later found the charge re-added to my bill. (2) Friday night from 11pm-12am there was loud dance music/bass being played somewhere in the hotel. I called the front desk (room phone had every button programmed to give a busy signal, had to find the phone number and call from my personal phone) and the manager offered to dispatch security. When I called 30mins later to report the problem had not stopped, the manager said security had not found a problem and it was probably the bar next door. The music did stop before 1am. Upon checking out, I found the extra charge on my bill for $5.50. I never signed for this charge. I would have mentioned it to the manager, however he was the only one behind the desk on a Saturday morning and was answering phone calls while performing my check out. A loft got rid of valet parking which is a negative to the constant traveler. The customer service at check in and the bar was very welcoming. The beds are very hard which caused for a sleepless night. I would still recommend A Loft Houston if you can deal with no valet and hard beds. "I'll stay again..."
I've stayed with this ALoft pretty frequently in the last year, and the hotel feels like it's going through some changes. They discontinued the valet parking service, for instance (and I see that as a positive change). It's hard to beat the location, and the configuration of the property makes for easy access even when you're packing a good bit of luggage […] and gear. The two prior stays were not quite on par, but this one was better. The maintenance staff needs to step up their game; however, the hotel staff is responsive when an issue is brought to their attention. If I can get in with a better than normal rate, I'll likely stay there; however, if it's the full-price rate, then I'll think twice. Still, the beds are very comfortable.
