Waldorf St Martins Apartments Hotel - Auckland

St Martins was our 1st hotel in Auckland. It was very spacious for the 2-person room/apartment and a little tighter for the 2-bedroom apartment. Balcony was lovely, decor simple but nice, nice kitchen with refrigerator, dishwasher, washer/dryer unit (some of our pots and pans had burnt food on them - the hotel promptly replaced them with new ones). […] Only instant coffee and tea was provided in room. Bed was very comfortable. Swimming pool was quite small and only suitable for 1, maybe 2 people to do short laps in. Breakfast contained yogurt, muesli, juices, coffee/espresso machine, hot cakes machine, and toast. Upon check in there was soot or some sort of dirt on the bed. Also the room and the whole floor was super heated so hot that we had to leave door open for fresh air. The location was way out of town which was not very convenient and the outlook straight into a run down office building was not very exciting. This is an ok little business apartment hotel. Rooms are alright, spacious for a studio or 2 room bed sit. Service is not a hotel- no linen service, no beds made, had to change the soap dispensers myself after going down to the basement for supplies. Internet service available for a fee, but can't connect if you have a Mac, and the front desk had no […] idea how to help. ( "What is an ISP? What do you mean URL?") Not a good sign for a business hotel. Breakfast available, but not until 8 am ( again not so good for a business traveler.) If I had someone in the hospital across the way, this would be a suitable place to stay for the week. I was there with my family (2 older children) and although it was OK, It was not terribly comfortable, and I would have liked a more knowledgeable front desk. Also the 7 (!) calls we got in the middle of the night from strangers made me wonder about who had had the room before us. All in all, it was OK, but not a four star hotel, especially in comparison with the other places we stayed in NZ with a similar rating. I was only in the hotel for one evening, but that was definitely enough. Other than the convenient location (walking distance to the city and Queen Street), this hotel is definitely overrated. First of all the hotel is down a narrow side street and across the street from an old cemetery. There are no pedestrians walking on this street, other than the […] few other guests staying in the hotel. The outdoor swimming pool is small and not maintained. The rooms do not have air conditioning, and the temperature in the rooms can be quite unbearable. If you're lucky and are on a high enough floor, some rooms have unobstructed views of the Sky Tower. This hotel is designed for the long-term corporate traveler, but it is fantastic for short-term tourists. Our apartment came with two bedrooms, a sofabed, dishwasher, washer/dryer, full kitchen, cooking/eating implements, and a flatscreen cable TV with DVD player. The only "normal" hotel thing missing was shampoo (soap was provided, including body soap, […] laundry, dish, and dishwasher). Our taxi driver had a bit of trouble finding it but my GPS phone solved that problem. We were on the 18th (top) floor, where the views are fantastic. It was an easy walk to Queen Street and not much farther to the Sky Tower. Because Auckland is a temperate climate, the room didn't have air conditioning, and the heating was provided by portable space heaters. That was a bit of a problem because we stayed during a hot/humid spell, but we managed OK with air cooling. Like most Kiwi hotels, the Internet is extra, and in this case only available via an Ethernet cable. We set up our Mac laptop to do "Internet sharing" (it was easy to find instructions on the Web for both Mac and Windows) so that the other laptop and the smartphone could use it as a hotspot, so we only had to pay once. If you are driving, be aware that parking is extra and the parking garage is very cramped and has low clearance. You won't get a long vehicle or (heaven forbid) campervan in there. Read more

The hotel was reasonable. Rooms clean and suitable for the requirements. The pool was warm and offered great play for the children. The washing machine in the apartment didn't work and there was someone else's dirty laundry in the machine. YUK. Room servicing was extremely minimal also. It was close to town and attractions.

We enjoyed out stay in Auckland, Queen street was a up hill challange. Two things we where not happy with was being told on arrival of $10-00 parking fee for the car per day, not picked up on our reservation. and B3 parking in the corner with all the old broken furniture, bed and refrigerators stuck out like a sore thumb for all to see, I did not see […] as a good look for the hotel. Great place to stay, walking distance to everything we needed. Friendly staff. Parking was VERY tight for a larger vehicle but a reasonable charge of $18. Beds were great and pillows not too big and stuffy. Room configuration was good but without air conditioning or even a fan it was RIDICULLOUSLY hot!!!! The stay overall was amazing, staff were very nice and welcoming. Hotel is also only 5 minutes walk to Queen St. which is the main strip of auckland and about 15 minutes walk to the ferries and docklands which are a party spot.

Windows do open but given it's location next to motorway junctions/inclines you will need some good earplugs to drown out the trucks grinding to/from the port below. For a party of four, this is a good place to stay. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment and the rooms were clean and tidy. Facilities in the apartment were great and the location was central, just a block away from Queen Street and a corner away from KRoad. My family and I had a great time to stay in Waldorf St Martins apartment hotel. Its rooms are clean and of good size except the queen bed room which is a bit tight. All facilities in the room are functional and wonderful. The kitchen facilities are also good to cook some meals. Room services such as cleaning and changing towels has been provided regularly. Internet […] was provided with reasonable payment. We loved the location for its close to the centre of the city and Bus roots. The least favourite things about this hotel are; It is built on a sloping ground and it is not comfortable for car parking, the Cemetery located right in front of the hotel wasn't pleasant to us, and the Reception room is to small for the size of that hotel and not bright and attractive. We were able to check in as soon as we arrived in the morning and able to have them hold our luggage before checking out. Laundry was available. We paid $18/day for parking, reception pointed 106 but when we reached parking basement, 106 was taken so we had to go for 107. We reported to reception and staff said no worries.
