The room was spacious and clean. The air conditioning, unlike in some of the big player hotels, would get colder than you want and that is important in the tropics. The included breakfast buffet was expansive and excellent. The room had good speed on the wireless connection, a mini fridge with enough room for other than the you-buy-it contents, abundant […] supply of shampoo and soap. The lobby, unlike low budget hotels, was a nice place to hang out, local "folk/traditional" musicians in early evening, and the bar was right there. You could sit and sip in the lobby. The doormen and other staff were gracious and never demanded tips or got grumpy insulting if they got none. I know because before I could get a tip out of my pocket the busboy who carried my luggage was gone. Read more

Internet was excellent. I was impressed with the speed and quality of the Internet. The only problem was I was shorted on the money exchange. I did not realized I was shorted until I go to my room, even more, the hotel did not give me a receipt for my currency exchange, so I could not do anything about it.

Vien Dong Saigon though in District 1 is a bit far from the Saigon River and the nearby areas. It is close to the New World Hotel. I had the room with a balcony looking over the garden. Vien Dong (it is also called Far East Hotel) is not a big hotel but service is good. Rooms are clean. The complementary buffet is fairly good and I believe that you can have enough not only for breakfast but also for a lunch meal. Along the street, Pham Chu Lao Street, where Vien Dong is, there are quite a lot of shops, say restaurants and bars. Not only the main street in front of the hotel is busy but also the side streets like the alleys quite busy. I stayed at the Vien Dong for 3 nights during a big trip around Vietnam. It's location is very central Ho Chi Minh, easy walk to the markets, many restaurants and the park right across the street is a great place to hang out with the locals playing hackysack and doing early morning tai chi. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The porters […] always made an effort to chat with me whenever I was coming and going and even offered to help me cross the street - which is an adrenaline inducing sport in Ho Chi Minh! The receptionists spoke very good English and were very efficient. The restaurant is superb! I had the best meal that I had throughout my entire trip. The wait staff are very sweet and efficient and the food is first class. Buffet breakfast was also included in my accommodation package and it was very satisfying - hot dishes, pastries, plenty of fresh fruit and omelettes made on request. The hotel helped arrange my transfers to and from the airport and my room was cleaned daily with complimentary bottled water left in the room. We arrived around 1 in the morning and check in was fast. Very efficient service. Requested extra beddings and pillows, arrived with in 5 minutes of request. Near everything worth seeing in HCMC. Guards assisted with crossing the street. Excellent hotel.

The hotel was excellent. Late (2a) check in and the attendant met my cab across the street, took my bag and then walked me to my room after check in. I was shown the A/C and how to use it. Having stayed at the Vien Dong in 2010 we knew exactly what to expect. As in 2010 we chose a deluxe suite which was excellent value for money, large bedroom, large lounge and two bathrooms which were cleaned daily to a good standard. The buffet breakfast was good and all the staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful. The deluxe suites are situated […] at the front of the hotel overlooking the park (which is one of the reasons we chose this hotel), this can be a problem if you are a light sleeper as between 0500 - 0600hrs the overnight coaches disembark on the road outside followed by swarms of taxis and a lot of blaring horns, but we had no problems, HCMC is a very loud city anyway and you soon get used to it. The great location and friendly staff more than compensate for a little early morning noise. Read more

Stayed in a suite on the 4th floor. Had two bathrooms but didn't really need the extra room. TV didn't work but the fixed that within minutes of asking. Good location. Room was facing the street and was quite noisey in the early morning. buffet breakfast was just OK? For the price I would stay here again!

Excellent location. Few staff particularly friendly. Few staff spoke English. Being on the main road ( Pham Ngu Lao ) it can get noisy and disturbing when aerobics classes are held in the park opposite hotel at 5 am. Spoke to manager about these issues..he was apologetic and helpful where possible.

The only problem is if you have a room on the ninth floor. The floor above is a conference room and everyday we were there, the noise from above was overwhelming. Other guests on our floor were also complaining about it. The hotel needs to soundproof the top floor. Oddly enough, you couldn't hear anything from the outside balcony!

At a good room rate you are right in the heart of district 1 and where all the tourist action is happening. Good staff, clean rooms, central location. The hotel was good but we'd booked for 4 adults but when we came in there's only 1 queen size bed. We've asked them why and they said that we've booked for 2. And we'd gave them the booking received, they said they don't know why. Anyway they still charge us for 4 adults and we have to slept on the sofas.
