Peppers Bluewater Resort - Lake Tekapo

This hotel is within walking distance of just about everything there is to offer in this small resort town. The hotel is fairly new and clean with nice, friendly staff. Our room was somewhat small but was very comfortable. Most rooms appear to be fairly large with condo-style accommodations.

Smallest room we ever had. Not even a place for a chair. Granted I chose the least expensive room offered. Compact but complete with everything needed. Large modern bath. Close to lake, stores & restaurants.

A 5 star rating a little over the top I think and the average ratings by other previous guests about sums it up for me also , Firstly - 5***** and want to charge Internet Surcharge, get with the times, had plenty of free cable TV, DVD player,CD player for entertainment , but most travellers these days I feel would like after a day driving and sightseeing […] from last stopover to the next would prefer to have quick access to the internet to contact with family back home, search the sites for points of interest on the next stage of their journey in the relaxed space of the room and with such a rating should supply WiFi and such a complimentary service. Booking was for a Lake View room and the best we got to see was a partial view of the lake , and once again for a 5***** resort / hotel listed a King bed , but was 2 singles pushed together. The room was very small, like a hotel in Japan; essentially just a bed and a bathroom. One had to walk sideways around the bed and there was no place to sit, or to put one's luggage. The design of the room was poor, as was the design of the entire facility. The whole place was high on designer ambiance, and low on basic comfort. Yes the single room was small-although it had a huge king size bed and awesome shower room. I was aware of that after reading some negative reviews, but the room size did NOT bother me one bit and I would not pay more money for a bigger room when you are in one of the most beautiful locations on earth Lake Tekapo. This was classified as the "fanciest" of all the hotels we stayed in during our 3 weeks in NZ, and it was somewhat disappointing. The room had up to date furnishings, nice linens and towels, extra heating unit in bathroom,but the room itself was so small! Not even room to set your suitcase down and open it - either had to put it on the bed, or in the […] closet to open it. The heating/cooling unit had a remote that did many different functions. Unfortunately, it had no directions. We were either blasted with hot or cold air, no in-between that we could figure out. If we'd been staying for more that a night's sleep, I would have had someone come show us how to use it. If you stay here, make sure you realize that a "hotel room" is very tiny. Because it is part of a larger chain, you did not get the personal feel as you would in a smaller, more intimate place. Big plus: free laundry room for guest use! Read more

Peppers Bluewater Retreat is a very nice hotel (extremely spacious rooms esp. the 3 bedroom villa) overlooking Lake Tekapo. The quality of the furniture and fittings was high and the overall comfort was wonderful. The only thing is that the beds are not really comfortable though are okay for short stints.

Peppers was very comfortable....large studio room with balcony and excellent views of the lake. The hotel has an unsightly ornamental lake though which encourages mosquitoes so we were unable to open the window at night. Short walk to local restaurants and shops. The hotel complex is quite new and modern, the price is reasonable for this particular town. Most other Bluewater resorts in NZ are way more expensive, its probably because there is nothing going on in this town. The hotel itself is really nice, the room is a bit small. A nice resort but we shared a small hotel type room with our relatives who were in the larger apartment. The apartment was great, but our room was very tiny and claustrophobic. I would recommend the resort if you are booking a larger apartment.

I booked a hotel room from the UK through Hotels.com which was a very easy process. On arrival at the hotel we were given a room that could only be described as a shoe box. There was no view apart from the footpath outside. There are two doors to get in to the room, the first into a shared lobby with the other apartment the building houses, then your […] hotel room door. They guy that greated us at reception was great and we had a lovely room. The restaurant service however was a different experience. The girl took ages to take our order even though we were sitting there with the menu closed. She didn't ask how my partner wanted his steak cook, didn't even talk to us really. My partner ordered a Valley Blue Pale Ale […] however we don't even think thats what we got as it had speights on our bill. They took ages to ring up the bill. Not very good service when you paying prices like they charge for a meal. Great view from the room. Small town but it has everything that you need. Great views of lake from hotel bedroom, and easy to walk into town from. The night sky is simply amazing at Lake Tekapo and the Earth and Sky observatory is a must. Booked one night but after arriving decided to stay another.

Staff were very curt on arrival. Room was so small that luggage had to be stacked on top of each other. There were serious marks on the walls from previous clients struggling to manage luggage in room. Fan in bathroom did not work making mirrors hard to use and room really steamy. Our room had to have cooler on as it was very hot all the time despite […] weather being 23c. This seemed to be in contraction to environmental claims made by hotel. Milk in fridge was 2 small jiggers - not enough for 2 people and we really did not want to ask for more as staff were very abrupt and unfriendly on arrival. It was great, the room was clean and beautiful. Staff was nice and helpful. Only down side for us was the linen bags and new sheets lying around outside rooms everywhere in the hotel. They were there for much of the day spoiling the view and landscaping, not so appealing. Other than that it was great.
