Padma Resort Bali At Legian - Legian Beach

We booked this the day before we arrived from the Expedia information and user reviews. Despite the pictures I'm always worried that what I'm booking is worse than it seems. In this case it was far better than I had hoped for, The resort is secluded with several pools and landscaped gardens, The room was exquisite, with all amenities including free, […] fast, wireless, broadband Internet, both in the room and the public places. The service was superb. Friendly, solicitous, Balinese who couldn't do enough for us and who seemed to really care. We mostly ate buffet style. Not my favourite, but the food quality was wonderful; wide choices of tasty well cooked food, and evidence that there was a guiding hand with a great attention to detail. Except for the cold plates! We ate at the Teppanyaki restaurant one evening. The ingredients were top class. but the chicken, shrimp and fish, both a little overcooked for my taste, and the sauces lacked a little in authenticity. But nevertheless it was a fun experience, and there was far too much to eat even though we had selected the smallest set menu. There are several beautiful pools, and as we were in low season. no problem finding sunbeds and shade. When we first arrived the local Legian beach was very dirty, as was the beach at Kuta. But by the last day Legian at least had been cleaned. The sea was rough most of the time, fine for surfers and strong swimmers. It is a beautiful, tasteful resort, and excellent value for money.. Great self-contained resort right on the beach. Resort is wonderful. Pleasant pools, good food, attentive staff. Legian beach was disappointing, at least the week we were there. Those looking for white sand tropical unspoiled beaches should look further afield.

Padma Resort in Legian is a fitting resort for families, young travelers or groups for the most part. We stayed in a Deluxe Chalet which is pretty spacious for two people and well designed with a large shower. The beach is fine but expect to be haggled a lot. I do have a few complaints about the hotel. We had accidentally spilled water on our bedsheets one night that we had ordered room service. We had to pull the sheets off and ask for new ones. When we had pulled the sheets, we discovered a dead (small) cockroach on the mattress. Albeit it was under a mattress pad so we weren't sleeping directly on it, still it indicated that the hotel does not make it a habit of changing the mattress pad regularly with new room guests in which case they would have noticed the dead roach. We asked to have a new room and they happily accommodated this request. The food left a lot to be desired. They have plenty of choices for the breakfast buffet that will suit many different appetites. However the quality of the breakfast buffet food was not very good. They offer gluten free bread items but they were nasty. The only menus we ordered from were the Sunset Bar, the Pool, Room Service and The Deli. We were hoping to find a variety of food choices but found that most of the menus from these places are the same with a few varied options switched at each place. I will say the cocktail selection is good. Also in terms of the property, I saw construction/maintenance workers crossing through the pool area with wagons full of dirt. Typically at a nice resort, there would be an alternate way for staff to cross the property so as not to disturb the guests. I was very impressed with this hotel. The ambiance, staff, room, restaurants, pools, artwork, gardens, everything was pleasing with a very relaxed tropical feel. I arrived at about 4.00pm and was told my room was not yet ready and would be another hour. I was not happy as check in time was 2.00pm. Before I finished my coffee, she came to tell me my room was ready so a potentially negative experience was well handled and resolved. I was only staying in Legian for 3 nights so it was a short stay. My only negative comments are nothing to do with the hotel at all but I think may be of interest to people thinking of staying there. The hotel is situated on what is said to be one of Bali's premier beaches a several kilometre stretch of strand from Kuta through Legian to Seminyak. My visit was at the end of January. The beach was very dirty with litter everywhere. It was also very busy with beach bars and vendors along the whole length. It is entirely a 'mass tourism' type of beach, maybe good for surfers and family's who like crowds but not a romantic 'tropical getaway' destination. The same must be said for the shops, bars, restaurants, clubs etc of Kuta and Legian - if it is a young club type scene (or for men looking for 'night butterflies') then fine but for those seeking the culture and peace of Bali, Legian is a base to explore from, not such a destination in itself. Today is my first stay at this hotel. It's the worst 5 stars (as Expedia stated) I ever stayed. First, they forgot to pick us up at airport. This hotel is situated in a gorgeous tropical garden where you can wander around and every day discover new features, plants, trees and flowers, statues, fish etc. It has two fantastic swimming pools. I stayed at a deluxe room with my husband and 5 month old daughter. I loved that there was a pool with a bar that catered to adults, and a small, very shallow jacuzzi with a waterfall feature for children. We managed to wade with my daughter in the 50cm(?) deep pool. Buffet breakfast every morning was fantastic, wide variety of food, good mix of western […] and ethnic, mostly fresh and palatable. Free flow of milk, juices, coffee and tea. There was another pool nearer the chalets (farther from the smaller windier pool) that led straight to the beach. The walk out to shops and eateries is about 5minutes (mostly sheltered, if it rains you can borrow an umbrella from concierge). Mozzarella (5mins from hotel) serves very good nasi goreng and smoothies (try the mint sensation). Santai spa is pretty good and affordable but requires reservation way in advance. Read more

The breakfast service is superb I have never seen such a range of truly excellent food where all tastes are catered for and the staff are attentive to your needs with constant refills of coffee and […] tea at your table. The rooms are immaculate and the beds and pillows are so comfortable you don't want to get out of them. The gardeners work very hard to keep the surrounds in pristine condition and of course they always have a smile for you when you go by. Unfortunately, the fire in the Bella Rosa restaurant had just occurred prior to our arrival so the substitute area used for Garden Club Lounge members is severely limited. The Sunset Lounge area was also closed; it would have been nice if an effort had been made to keep it open and not just for special events. We chose to stay in a deluxe Garden Chalet. Our room was on the 2nd floor. It was very quiet but still close enough to all the amenities. Two huge pools to choose […] from. The breakfast buffet was excellent, both the choice & quality of the food. We also enjoyed the Bali Banquet Theme night at the Padma, tried the deep fried intestines & Balinese Eel. Enjoyed a few too many cocktails at the Pool Bars, especially at Happy Hours. The location is perfect. You can choose to walk either along the beach to either Seminyak or Kuta. Or walk out the front of the hotel for everything. Overall we can't speak highly enough of the Padma. The staff were friendly & very attentive. The hotel well maintained & very clean. Beautiful gardens. Plenty of sun lounges around the pools. Hotel supplied mozzie repellent machines in the room, we didn't find we needed it. DVD player so we could watch our recent purchases plus Fox in the room. our son was entertained when he had enough of the pool or didnt want to go out for dinner. Room service food reasonably priced & very good quality. An umbrella in each room, we only needed it a couple of times. it was mid January & the rain would come at late night & clear in the morning. We stayed on the second floor on the rainforest side of the resort. As soon as we walked into our room we were overpowered with a moist/wet smell. We tried to air it out but this just resulted in the mirrors getting all steamy. We thought we'd put up with it as it was our last hotel of the stay and thought it must just be due to the humidity of Bali […] ans the other rooms would be similar. Later when we got into bed the sheets and pillows also had a wet and moist feeling which gave for an uncomfortable night. On later inspection there was mould on the curtains and on the ceiling. The restaurants are great as is the pool area. If I were to stay again I'd go across the road to the Bali Mandira .. We stayed there first when we arrived.
