"A homey B&B in Capt. Cook."
The Hale Ho'ola is a B&B, not a hotel, run by Bob and Mary. We stayed in the Plumeria Suite which had its own bathroom and lanai, looking west for perfect sunset viewing over the ocean. The lanai has a small refrigerator, perfect for holding waters, beers, soft drinks etc. The room was spotless and also had a large closet with a hangers and a dresser. All 3 rooms share a living room that has a love seat and chairs, lots of books and magazines and a microwave, if you're in need of a hot cup of tea or want to warm up a snack. Mary prepares a lovely breakfast every morning with juice, coffee, tea, fresh fruit and home baked specialties. The 3 mornings we were there she prepared a frittata, French toast and quiche, all quite delicious. Bob has lots of local info on what to do, where to go and where to eat. They were the perfect hosts!

Lovely place. It was very welcoming; Bob even called me after I made the reservation. Fantastic views, great location right across the road from the exit to the place of refuge. Breakfast was amazing - cooked hot and presented beautifully (French Toast especially) with tea, coffee, fruit, juice, and fresh breads, eaten with the other friendly guests and the colorful geckos on the porch upstairs.

"Perfect for Captain Cook area"
I find B&B's a bit odd - but they are growing on me. There were small things about the room that gave it a 4 instead of 5. But everything was clean, and it was so peaceful on the lanai outside the room and upstairs... Although the cows and chickens can get a bit noisy at supper time; they are quiet at night. The breakfast was great - don't be shy about requesting what you like; Mary is super nice and accommodating! The geckos were awesome. And they have extra supplies you can borrow to make your trip easier (coolers, boogie boards, straw mats, etc). Location is great for exploring the southwest and western part of the island. Both Bob & Mary know a lot about the area and can make sure you get the most out of your time there - whatever you choose to do.

"decent B & B, but remote location"
All B & B rooms are on the 1st floor sharing a living room. There're beach stuff for guests, e.g. towels, snorkeling, chars, coolers, ...etc. Our room was small but decent. For our room (Hibiscus Room), hot/cold water shower was set up opposite. And there's hair in the bath tab which grossed me out. And, my husband said the room has moldy smell. I guess the owners are old couple, so the cleaning/maintenance didn't seem thorough. There're left-over toiletries (free hotel kinds), so you may want to pack your toiletries. The breakfast starts only from 8:30, and owners sit down with you forever. If you have your schedule and start your day early, you can just eat and leave. Otherwise, the breakfast seems to last all morning. We had coffee, bakery, fresh fruits, fruit juice, and main dish which changes daily. One thing about the location is that B & B is located in the middle of nowhere. We had to drive 20 miles to get any restaurants which all close before 9pm. I strongly recommend you plan to have dinner (e.g. in Kona) before coming back to B & B. As the public land is in front of B & B, there're feral animals, e.g. roosters, cows. Roosters start cockadoodledoo around 4am. One night a cow started mooing all night. He sounded like someone was trying to slaughter him, and very loud. In summary, if you don't mind the remote location, feral animals, and slow morning, it'd be perfect. But if you like convenience, you may want to choose somewhere near Kona.

"Bed and breakfast très agréable"

"Like visiting family"
08/08/15 Mikarvey Los Angeles, California
Hidden from the roadway behind lush gardens, Hale Ho'ole provided a very comfortable room - the Plumeria Room. Quet, restful, with only the sounds of nature to fill our ears, we immediately enjoyed our personal lanai. The room was perfectly clean, and, after our travel, the bed was inviting and comfortable. Bob and Mary were very warm and welcoming, and we instantly felt the kindness and love in their hearts. The breakfast of tropical fruits, coffee, breads and home-made quiche was both delicious and healthy. We look forward to another visit, soon.

The Hale Ho'ola was for us a wonderful place to stay! Firstly, the rooms are charming, the beds very comfortable and the view is stunning! It is surrounded by a beautiful tropical garden and from the lanai in my room I could see a lush tropical forest with a view of the ocean in the distance. Every morning a delicious, very satisfying breakfast of local fruits and coffee, with an excellent main course was served. The hosts are VERY friendly and go out of their way to help in any way to make your vacation a truly great one, providing maps, directions and local recommendations!!! It is close to many beaches, good restaurants and activities. I highly recommend this B&B as one of the very nicest I've ever stayed at!!!

"Peaceful stay! Great B&B"
07/29/15 FMHMmtl Montreal, Canada
We stayed 2 nights in the Plumeria Suite of this B&B. It is a very peaceful place to stay and we really enjoyed it. We could only hear the sound of nature, which is relaxing coming from a big city. Mary and Bob are great hosts and provided useful information about spots to visit as well as restaurants/shops/etc. Breakfasts were incredibly good and served on a large porch upstairs with a nice view. Mary even prepared a bag with pieces of cake to bring with us on the day of our departure. They also have beach items at your disposal that we used and had a lot of fun with (bodyboard, snorkelling gear, chairs, towels, etc.) The room and the bathroom were clean and the bed was comfy. There is a private lanai and a small fridge for each room and also a common area with a microwave that we could use. We highly recommend this B&B to travelers!

"Fullfills both BED and BREAKFAST for B&B"
06/29/15 Kelly A Kailua, Hawaii
Mary and Bob were fantastic hosts! My husband and I had a wonderful time and fell asleep as soon as our heads hit the pillow. We awoke well rested and with coffee brewing on the upstairs lanai. Breakfast consisted of the most delicious exotic fruit with breads and a second plate (one day with Hawaiian pancakes and the other with a southwestern egg bake type of deliciousness). The location was away from the noise of everyday traffic and people . All we heard was the sound of nature, even a cow at one point. Each room had its own private lanai. We came to Big Island from Oahu to scuba dive with the Manta Rays. Highly recommend this place to relax!

We had a very nice relaxing time during our three night stay. Bob and Mary were so accommodating and tended to all of our needs. They went the extra mile to invite our visiting family to join for a wonderful breakfast. Mary made sure every detail was covered during our stay to include a travel basket for our early morning checkout that would have us miss breakfast. The rooms were very comfortable decorated with rich Hawaiian culture. We will definitely be coming back!

"Had a lovely time"
05/02/15 S M Lexington, Massachusetts
We stayed 2 nights at this B&B and had a lovely time. The accommodations were simple and clean, with a lovely lanai (outdoor porch) and a cool shared sitting room. Mary was away when we visited, so Suzie was there preparing breakfast and caring for all our needs. Breakfast was upstairs on a large open porch with tables and seating. Breakfast was generous and delicious. Bob's quite a talker and gave us tons of good information about where to go and what to see. (And lots of opinions on numerous other aspects of life in Hawaii.) The whole experience was much more homey and pleasant than a stay in a big hotel. There are pigs and bulls and roosters roaming the fenced area behind the B&B (not part of the property), which added to the atmosphere. Only slight negative is that when they were full-up, the hot water was not abundant. But all in all, I highly recommend it. And be sure to also visit the inexpensive restaurant (not visible from the street) at the Hotel Managao for a real local experience.

Stayed a week at this wonderful B&B. Bob and Mary are so nice and helpful. If you plan to go for an early day trip, Mary will prepare breakfast to go for you! Great breakfast! They gave us a lot of information of what we shouldn't miss during our stay on this island. Would definitely stay with Bob and Mary if we visit the island again.

We stayed a week and Bob and Mary are wonderful hosts. Breakfasts local fruits, and of course Kona coffee. View from deck great, the room all have their own private deck & view area. Bob is a storehouse of where to go and what to do. Hale Ho'ola's location is prime so we did day trips to local beaches to sun, swim and snorkle: visit coffee farms and Captain Cook park. We also made a day trip around to Volcano, and another day up and around to and the summit of Mauna Kea. The are pathways along the road and was able to get some great training runs in. The weather is warm and gentle. I highly recommend this B and B and plan to return. It made the trip. Carl and Elma D.

"Great Value!"

Lovely stay. Room had everything we needed and the view from the lanai was exceptional. watched a breathtaking sunset. Also supplied beach towels and sand chairs for visits to the beach. Mary and Bob couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. We really appreciated the bag lunch Mary put together for us when we left early on our final day before breakfast was served. If you are staying in the Captain Cook area, and looking for a great value, you will find it at the Hale Ho'ola.
