"lazy with a capital C"
It was a nightmare. Location was most difficult to find. Upon arrival, there was no reception, absolutely nothing. I have to search for the booked cabin and to ring a number to inform check in time. How could the establishment be called a "resort" of any kind when the swimming pool is not even up to code. Am I expected to swim at my own risks? Also […] no eating facilities within the resort. The cabin is too small. Not recommended for overseas travellers.

Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Me and my husband stayed in a cottage for two during one night on our way to Yosemite National Park. We had a bit of trouble finding the hotel (despite GPS) as the sign to Lazy Z was located directly in the left-turn. Placing the sign earlier on the road would have been appreciated. The cottage was really cosy and clean. We had our own patio with a […] barbecue. The wi-fi did not reach our cottage, but we could access it from the main/pool area. The pool was really nice and the main area also offered dvd rentals and table tennis. It was a 1,5 - 2 hours drive getting from Lazy Z to Yosemite Village, which was a bit further than we expected, but the cosy cabin definitely made it worth it.

"Hytte langt inni skogen"

Clean, quaint, and quiet. Pool and water feature was great. Young kids enjoyed all. Nearby restaurants great. Fun things to do in Sonora and Columbia...and even Jamestown. Fun for all ages...gold panning , hikes, etc...
"Awesome "water feature" !!!"

We found Lazy Z on the internet and reserved a cabin for 2 nights for our family of four. The cabin was just right for us, and unlike other reviews I've read here saying the cabins were small, we are a large family, literally: hubby 6'6", 350, me 6' 300, and the kids are over 5' tall. All I can say is that we fit fine, but the weather was great, so we were outside a lot as well. The 3rd night we upgraded to the larger 3 bedroom cabin (we wanted to extend our stay, but the cabin we were in was already booked for that night) and were totally spoiled!! It had a living room, fireplace, full-sized kitchen, large bathroom and king bed in the master bedroom. We microwaved or BBQ'd our dinners, had simple breakfasts, and made sandwiches on the road. Very doable. We're used to tent camping, so this was luxury. Hubby wanted cabin, and while the smaller one was great by me, when we got the bigger cabin near the pool...WOW! The "water feature" aka pool, is AMAZING!! You will want to make reservations with your local contractor to recreate it! We used the resort as our base as we explored Columbia, Sonora, moaning caverns, and Jamestown and then spent the evenings swimming, playing ping-pong, corn hole, or just cards in the most beautifully landscaped grounds. Everything was a short drive away and there's a Safeway, Walmart, and everything else you could imagine in Sonora, so if you forget something, don't worry. The resort is family owned, and we found the service to be wonderful. the cabins were VERY clean and well appointed. They have silverware, cups, plates, bowls, glasses in the smaller cabins and everything from cork screws to pasta servers in the larger one. As for our family, we'll be making this trip again. Or.....maybe a girls weekend to visit wineries and Indigeny Reserve in Sonora! Also a great find :)
"Small rooms with poor amenities in an inconvenient location"
10/08/13 O B London, United Kingdom
We stayed in a cabin for four days with four of us sharing. The room was so small we couldn't move around with all four of us standing up. There were extremely limited amenities, including a tiny bathroom. The site wasn't close to anything, driving is essential. Not close to Yosemite- about 2 hours drive away. We had a problem during out stay and there was no staff to be found - they man the reception for one hour a day only. Complacent customer service.
"Cabin too small for 4. Not properly equipped for self catering"
10/02/13 ALASTAIR M Norwich, United Kingdom
The cabin would probably be ok designed for 2 people, but was extremely cramped for 4. There was a double and 2 bunk beds, leaving very little other floor space. There is a microwave, outside barbecue and a toaster, but the cabin is too small to cook in or for 4 to eat in. I would expect such a remote site and one claiming to be self-catering cabin for four people, to be much larger and well-stocked with equipment including a cooker and have a proper usable kitchen. In bad weather, I do not see how 4 could cook and eat in this tiny place. We stayed here to visit Yosemite, as it was the closest place we could get. It comes up when you search for Yosemite. Although on the map, the park edge appears reasonably close, because the roads are hilly and twisty and because the park has only a few official entry points, it is in fact a 4-5 hour round trip to Yosemite, so I would advise against using this as a base. It's pretty remote too - not walkable to the (nice) local town. We had a car problem and needed to use a phone/internet, but the office was closed up during the advertised opening hours with no explanatory note, which was frustrating and made me question the owners' professionalism.

We have just left Lazy Z and absolutely loved it. The pool and jacuzzi are beautiful and the cabin, although a wee bit dated, had everything we needed. There is a large clubhouse and poolside bar which would be ideal for big groups. The staff were helpful - and an added bonus, we saw deer every day in the resort grounds and the surrounding countryside is lovely

We enjoyed our three day stay wth the Lazy "Z" family. What a fun place for friends and or family to enjoy being together. Loved he water feature and the club house. The cabins had everything we needed to make great meals and then sit back and relax. We will be returning as soon as we can.
"Great Cabin in the mountains!"

My parents and I wanted to stay in the Sierras and close to Yosemite. Though Yosemite Valley was 2 hours away, we still decided to stay at this hotel. We were very pleased with the Lazy Z Resort. We called ahead and told them we were arriving late. They put a map by the office and left our cabin open for us. There were towels, bathroom amenities, a grill, a full kitchen and living room, etc. It was a perfect little home away from home. On our 2nd day, we traveled to Yosemite and back. Definitely doable but it does take awhile. We were so pleased with the Lazy Z that we didn't mind the travel time. Twain Harte was also an incredibly cute town. We got breakfast (bagels, sandwiches, and amazing breakfast drinks) at a little cafe right in town and then that night went back to The Rock for dinner. And downtown Twain Harte was only 1.5 miles away from the Lazy Z. The pool was very impressive. Rocks, waterfalls, and built in hot tubs made it an amazing retreat after a hard day of hiking around Yosemite. And it's a small hotel so there aren't huge crowds at the hotel which made it so much more relaxing. Check out was at 11am and we only had to be out of the cabin by 11am but could stay on the properties till 1pm. Overall I was very impressed with the Lazy Z.

Absolutely amazing stay. Cottage 14 was perfect for us. Bunk beds for the kids and double for mom and dad. Kitchenette and bathroom. Spotless and cozy. Location was ideal within a short drive of downtown and 35 min from Dodge Ridge. Plan on coming back for the summer. Don't miss out on this place!
"Enjoyable and Rustic Stay at Lazy Z"
01/13/13 MarciS Carmel, California
We planned a 3 night New Years trip at somewhat last notice and booked a cottage at the Lazy Z as that was what was left. We arrived at about midnight and as we had called ahead to warn of our late arrival we knew to stop at the office and check out the map. We found our cottage easily and were pleased with what we saw. It was unlocked and looked charming inside but was freezing cold especially as the snow had arrived. The heater worked very well at warming everything up but was very loud and constant with no thermostat to turn it off. The fan roared all night and our sleep was poor because of it. Our bed was not especially great as the box spring appeared to have a broken corner but we were comfortable enough. The next day we drove down to Walmart in Sonora and bought a small space heater that worked for the rest of our stay. I would recommend anyone staying in a cottage in winter to bring extra bedding, heater or electric blanket in order to avoid the cottage heat having to be on all night. That was really the only negative for us as we really enjoyed the rest of our stay. The cottage was rustic and small but attractive with a bench seat (where we found an extra blanket the day we left) small table, and little extras that we appreciated. There wasn't a clothes closet but lots of hooks were provided. There was only an overhead light so bring a book light if you want to read for very long. A television was provided but we never turned it on. We brought supplies to make breakfasts in the mini-kitchen provided. We used the microwave to cook omelets in our mugs and there was Keurig coffee maker as well as another regular one, dishes, utensils, soap, kitchen towels etc. The sun streamed in as we sat at our little kitchen table and our surroundings were especially pleasant. When we came back to our cottage after a New Years Eve dinner out, there was a complimentary bottle of champagne sitting on our porch with an invitation to use their club house until 1am. I considered that a very thoughtful gesture. We never explored the grounds or clubhouse but do look forward to a future trip. With a little prep a winter trip here is an excellent way to enjoy the scenery and far more comfortable than a generic motel room.
"Lazy is right! No heat in Cottage 17"
01/04/13 barbie z Berkeley, California
We booked a cottage last minute the week after Christmas. Got there around 10pm. Turned the heat on and it worked for about 20 minutes. My husband called the main number and they transferred him to someone off site. He was sent to check out another cottage that was supposed to be unlocked. It wasn't and it was a messy inside. We have a 4 year old and a 10 week old baby - a freezing cottage was not okay. Finally a man arrives with a space heater. It worked slowly but was okay for the night. The next morning my husband told the front desk about the broken wall heater as we left for the day. We got back in the evening to no heat. The space heater did not keep the cottage warm. Once again we called the main number since the office was closed and got transferred to someone offsite. He was two hours away and couldn't help us. He got someone to bring a second space heater which continually tripped a circuit breaker! Useless. I went to speak to a person at the front desk during the 11am check out and guess what?! No one there at 11:00am! Ridiculously bad service. Never again.
