"Great Find"Reviewed by Peter of "Charlottesville, VA." on Feb 16, 2012
This is a great find. Rooms are "city" size a bit small BUT everything you need including a HD flat screen is in the room. The breakfast and coffee are perfect. Priced well and overall a perfect place to stay.

"Loved our Pod"Reviewed by Michelle of "Islip Terrace, NY" on Feb 15, 2012
My husband and I fell in love with our little pod the moment we stepped in the door. We booked a queen bed, private bath and it was wonderful. Small but not too small by any means. The perfect amount of space really. (In fact, we had family staying at "The New Yorker" for more than double what we paid and the only size difference was a small hallway and a slightly larger bathroom.) The Pod is definitely a great deal. The room was immaculately clean, as was the bathroom. (Oh and their soap smells soooo amazing) We really did not want to leave when the trip was over. I would and have already recommended this hotel to all my friends.

"Mave hotel"
Nice pod hotel CLEAN! Room kind of small. Excellent front desk. No elevator in the morning, but convenient and nice.
"The MAve Hotel - Great staff!!"
We have recently found a hotel that offers an excellent location, good size rooms, great value and clean. The staff are always friendly, helpful and cheerful. It is a pleasure to stay in a hotel with these attributes. We will be back!
Small room but very clean and convenient. Perfect for one-night and one person.
"Lipstick on a Pig"
Late one night after getting back from the office, I found that room had not been cleaned. The hotel does not have cleaning staff in the evening, so I was out of luck. I received no discount on my stay or anything complimentary for the inconvenience. The facade of the hotel looks "boutiqey" like so many NYC hotels these days, but the rooms themselves […] have laminate flooring and are heated by window units that could have been picked out of a dump site. The rooms literally looked to have been designed by a college kid on a shoestring budget. Read more
"Excellent Value and Outstanding Staff"
I stayed four nights on business. I upgraded to the queen size room for space purposes. The room was nicely sized by New York standards in particular for the price point of the hotel. The best part of the stay was the staff. They went out of their way to be accommodating.
"Comfortable, convenient"
This hotel gave good value for the money. The location is very convenient - it's pretty centrally located for sightseeing in NY. The room was pretty small, but very clean and comfortable. We only stayed one night, so I can't say how good a job the cleaning staff does during your stay. The bathroom was nice - showers designed without doors means the […] floor gets pretty wet, but no big deal. Staff at the front desk were nice. The lobby is undergoing renovation and one of the elevators wasn't working, so getting to our floor took a while sometimes, but those things really weren't a big deal. Overall, a good, relatively reasonably-priced place to crash for a short trip to NYC. Read more
"The MAve NYC - small but stylish!"
In New York, all I really want it a clean room where I'm not afraid to touch the bedspread. I guess I don't have the highest expectations, but either way the MAve certainly passed with flying colors and provided everything we needed for a quick one-night stay. The room, while small, was stylish, well equipped and most importantly, *clean*. I will say […] though, that if you are accustomed to lots of space or require it for whatever reason, this might not be the best place for you. If however, you are like me and live in a 400 sq foot apartment and can pack in a small overnight bag, this place is perfect. Location was great and the staff was really friendly and helpful. They stored our bags when we got there (too early for check-in at 3) and after we checked out as we were spending the rest of the day in New York, which was perfect! Would definitely stay there again. Read more
"tiny."
smallest hotel room i've ever seen -- and i've stayed in a lot of new york city hotels over the years. there literally was not room to stand next to the bed. this would be redeemed if there was a lobby or some good common space in the hotel, but there is none of that either. also, the advertised breakfast was just pastries and coffee -- no yogurt or […] fruit or anything like that. it's fine for someone who is not planning on spending any time in the hotel. otherwise, stay elsewhere. "Felt like a hostel...not a hotel"
Do yourself a favor- pay a bit extra and stay elsewhere. We could not have been LESS impressed by the Mave on all levels- from the room itself to the cleanliness to their mediocre customer service. The previous night we had stayed at Hotel Indigo (for the same price) just 3 blocks away and the difference was night and day. Hotel Mave felt more like […] staying in a hostel than a hotel...will definitely stay elsewhere my next visit to NYC. Read more
"MAve Hotel NYC"
Room was tiny, but well appointed. We were in a room tucked away in a corner on the 3rd floor, so we barely heard any street noise. Location couldn't be beat, with the subway only a street away. Continental breakfast was a mix of high quality danishes, muffins and croissants which were much better then many hotels fare. Staff was very friendly. I would […] defiantly stay here again. "Small room, great staff."
If there had been a chair it would have been MUCH better. Only the bed, end tables, and a dresser. Too bleak.
"Wonderful Surprise"
Very comfortable rooms, super nice and clean considering price. I found parking right out front and hotel even upgraded us. I will be recommending this to friends coming in and using myself whenever last minute stays come up.
"One of my worst hotel experiences"
The only thing good I can say about this hotel is that the bed was comfortable. The room was very small and there was no nightstand and no lamp beside the bed (so no reading in bed). There was a step up into the bathroom, which was very small. The desk was shoved up tightly between the end of the bed and the doorway to the bathroom so that the door […] to the bathroom could not open fully, which made getting into the bathroom a challenge and made it impossible to use the full length mirror that was mounted to the inside of the bathroom door. There was no counter space in the bathroom. The heating was provided by a window unit (similar to an old fashioned window air conditioner) that blew cold air most of the time, even with the thermostat turned to 78 degrees. I was fortunate that my activities allowed me little time in the room except to sleep; otherwise, I would have been entirely miserable rather than just miserable. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Read more
"Another Boutique Pig with Lipstick"
The lobby is intriguing. The rooms are like dorm rooms, with cheap laminate wood flooring and a loud window ac/heating unit that must have been removed from some slum. The thing would switch from heat to a/c to get the temperature right. Good way to catch a cold, which I did. Service? They forgot to make my room the first day. When I got back from work […] at 10pm, there was no one in housekeeping. Hope that helps. Read more
"MAve Hotel - "Room Service, send up a room!""
The hotel service was adequate as in I checked in fairly uneventfully however in the morning, the coffee and pastry set up was sparse at best. Do it, or don't do it at all. If you didn't like French Vanilla in your coffee, you could be out of luck. I did not indulge; partially because I was in a rush. What I did find outrageous was when I opened the […] door to my room, I immediately felt claustrophobic. Now, I've stayed at hotels all over the world and I understand space in some big cities can be an issue but I had no place to hang my clothes, as in there were no closets! My winter coat shared a hook behind the door of my bathroom next to a wet towel! The convenience of the hotel location and its price were my true motivators. That said, the area was lined with small boutique hotels like MAve. I think I could do better. Thanks for reading.... Read more
"The Mave in the Flatiron district of NYC"
We checked in late on a Sunday night. The front desk staff were nice but this is not an ultra luxe experience (nor was it expected to be), so there is no one offering to take you to your room. Our only issue was that our room was on the 3rd floor and therefore the late night garbage pick up and the extra early morning garbage pickup from the construction […] in the bldg across the street was quite annoying. I don't know if it would have made that much of a difference being a few floors higher. Other than that, the room is modern, the bed was super comfy and the bathroom was spacious (if lacking in storage space). The hotel definitely feels more European in style - but they offer free breakfast in the lobby which is always a bonus. The hotel is close to great restaurants and an easy walk to Union Square. "The MAVE hotel in NY"
the rooms are very very small and the look is outdated for the price there was no seating to eat breakfast but for really low stools however, there is renovation going on, it seems, so maybe the seating arrangment willbe in there? service ws good
"Charming boutique hotel"
This is just what it claims to be... A nice boutique hotel don't expect the Ritz, but the rooms are not as small as some have complained about. Ours had a King bed, and we still had lots of room to move around. Great value & incredible location!!! Rooms are comfortable and have all the modern conveniences you could want. Rain shower head, iPod speakers, […] super linens on the bed, great water pressure, A/C. The shower stall has a half glass door, so water does splash out when showring. We fixed that by requesting a 3rd "big towel" and putting it on the floor to make up for the little one that was too wet from the splashes. No biggie!! The staff was always very accommodating & helpful during our 5 night stay. Read more
"The MAve Hotel is worth a stay."
We stayed at the MAve Hotel for 2 nights. The staff was really friendly and very helpful. They recommended we go to a local Lebanese restaurant, made our reservations and even sent complimentary glasses of champagne. Awesome recommendation too, since the food was amazing. The lobby at the MAve was under renovations which was a bummer. It's part of the […] charm, so instead there were painters in the spot where the balls would be. All in all, the room was small but very clean. Could definitely use a mirror in the room other than the bathroom, but I give it 9/10 and will definitely stay there again. Read more

"Great rooms - great service - great price!"
The room was great! the staff was extremely friendly. The price was amazing as well! Would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone!
"Pretty good"
Didn't really spend much time in the room/hotel, but for the time I did spend, very few complaints. Probably need better A/C units and a shower that is fully enclosed (gets a bit messy with the water flying everywhere). Great location!
"The MAve nyc, Great service/location"
I took a red-eye flight and arrived in the CIty early, so I was hoping to drop off my bags. But, my room was ready and I was able to check into my room very early, which was great! Centrally located, it was easy to get around. Friendly service, clean and quiet room. Great 2-night stay!
"Thank you!"
this was great from check in to check out!
"MAve Hotel NYC- looks better from a distance"
The location was excellent. The hotel was nice and clean, but the quality and upkeep of the place looks better in the photos. Lots of minor maintenance needed in our room. Wall plug window AC units a disappointing touch.

"The Mave"
Nice, small hotel with very friendly, helpful staff. The complimentary grab and go breakfast was also a pleasant surprise with coffee or tea, real milk, fresh fruit, and assorted fresh bakery items.
very nice staff and great location. Regular bedrooms are so small!!! hotel was able to upgrad our room so we enjoy very much!
"Great service, nice hotel"
The customer service at this hotel is really above and beyond. Even though it's not a service they offer, they always bring coffee to my room every time I stay there. The room is clean (small, but fine for a business trip) and the maid service goes above and beyond as well.
"Blood stain on sheets! but it wasn't all bad"
We spent 3 nights at the hotel and overall our experience was good (not spectacular). I'm an avid traveler and go to NYC about 1-2 a year at least. Positives: They have the basics down. It's a nice, overall clean hotel. Bathroom has a shower only (which I prefer) and the coffee-machine in the room is great. Staff is REALLY nice and helpful. They give […] you a free basic breakfast (grab-and-go style). The location is good, although for the money we could've stayed closer to Times Sq if we had kept hunting for deals. Negatives: I'll start with the small stuff. The building and the common areas aren't as cool-looking as they make it seem like in the pictures. The room's pretty small, even by NYC standards. The TV is decent but the channels don't match the list they give you and the remote doesn't work as expected at all. Fitness area is tiny (which was luckily fine because no one else was in there when I went). And oh yeah, there was a dime-sized blood stain on our top sheet on day 2. We discovered it when we got back for the day (around 10p). They apologized and sent someone up (wearing a sweatshirt!) who struggled with making the bed even though my husband helped him! That would never happen in a big-chain hotel. So yeah, personally, I'd never stay there again. Unless perhaps if they cut their prices by half and there was no other decent choice available. And I wouldn't recommend it to others only because there's plenty of hotel options in NY and you can usually get a good deal if you look around a bit. Read more

"Great Find!!!"
Stayed at the Mave over 4th of July weekend. I knew the rooms would be small, and it was indeed cramped, but had everything I needed - a clean, safe, convenient place to crash for the night. There was really no outside light in the room, so it was a bit like being in a cave, which didn't bother me but could be an issue for some. The location was great […] - close to subways, Empire State, etc. Les Halles is a favorite French bistro and is 2 blocks away. Could not have been happier with the combo of price, location & accommodations. The AM coffee/pastry bar was an unexpected perc - except it ends a bit early on the weekends (9am) which was difficult to make due to the cave-like room I mentioned before!!! Read more
This hotel, for the VERY HIGH price, should only be booked as a place of last resort. We have stayed at the Bowery, and the Marcel at Gramercy, for less and got SO MUCH more value. Not a comfortable hotel with no amenities. That said, the staff was gracious and the room was very clean.

"The rooms are small but who spends time in a hotel in NYC anyway!"
Excellent! Very friendly staff - extremely clean, modern room.
"Great finishes, location, staff; small room, but great for the money."
Extremely comfortable bed, wonderful linens, nice new bathrooms, decent space for nice desk and all-new modern furniture. Staff were very helpful. Tiny room, typical of these new, low-ish priced yet still "boutique" hotel. Gramercy/Flatiron district my favorite location, since it's a nice walk or very short cab ride to nearly everything.

"Small even by New York standards"
I booked this hotel largely because of their trendy website. The hotel did not deliver what I was expecting. The lobby is very small and there is no place to wait if your room is not ready. The staff was really great on check in. Both guys were friendly and welcoming. On the day I booked the hotel had an "Urban Full", "Madison Queen" and "Madison King" […] available. I went with the "Madison Queen" knowing that rooms are small in New York and figuring that I would have a little more room if I went one step up. Upon check in I was advised that in the category I had booked they had a room with a view or a room with a desk. I decided to go for the view since I would not be doing much work while I was there. If that was the room with a view and more room then I would hate to see what an Urban Full would look like. The room was literally no more than 12ft long and 9ft wide with a bathroom that was about 8x5 attached to it. The view turned out to be a small window with inadequate insulation looking onto a sidewalk three floors below. The noise from the street was really bad and I ended up sleeping with the TV on to try to mask the noise from the street below. The window style air conditioner was really loud when turned on and turned the room into a wind tunnel. Not really usable. The bed was very comfortable and the cotton sheets of high quality. The bathroom amenities were also good as was the shower pressure. The breakfast that was included in the room rate consisted of Costco croissants and coffee that was tolerable. There was no place to sit and have breakfast so my only choice would have been to take it to my room and eat on my bed. I opted for a diner down the road. Overall the hotel would be fine if the rate was more realistic for the size and quality of room. Read more

"Comfortable Stay in NYC"
I live in Connecticut - stayed in town at the MAve for a Saturday night with my wife for a dinner event. MAve is a boutique style hotel in a good safe location near Madison Square Park - close enought to walk to Union Square in less than 10 minutes, location is mid-point in the city to get downtown to Soho/Village, or up to Times Square (both via close […] subway or taxi) very quickly. Small hotel, so when i say "boutique", I'm not talking about a W hotel boutique, so almost imagine a small apartment building with a desk in front and the elevators/stairs within 10 feet of the desk. But rooms are decent size for NYC (ie, larger than many rooms I've been to in NYC) Very European style rooms, extremely clean, nice light wood floors, large flat screen tv with full cable, wifi, large comfortable bed. No views since maybe max of 12 floors. Given relatively affordable rate, I'd say perfect place if you're looking to have a clear, relaxing place in good location, as a "base" while you're seeing the city. Read more
"Wow... what a great hotel; we will definitely return."
Our stay was in Sept 2009. The hotel informed us they had been open for two months. Everything was new and exceeded our expectations... it was like we were transported to Europe. Very modern and comfortable rooms: furniture, amenities (including ipod dock), etc. It was a very thought out launch and the staff was super friendly and helpful. We would […] recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone -- and we will definitely return ourselves! Read more
"Good Value and Great Staff in Manhattan"
I recently stayed for three nights at the MAve when I was in NYC on business. It's very clean, and the service is excellent. Staff are very helpful and cheerful. The rooms are small, but that's pretty typical for Manhattan. I did have to ask for a room with a desk, but when I asked they quickly found one for me. There are a variety of food options in […] all price ranges nearby. Read more

Urban room was absurdly tiny - I upgraded for a bit more money per day. Room had two full sized beds but no writing desk or chair which I needed. Overall, a nice hotel in a great location. Staff young, hip, friendly.

"Teeny But Comfy and Clean"
All the reviews reporting details on the size of the rooms are spot on. Yes, the room is tiny, but impeccably clean (a big issue for me given the bed bug epidemic in many NYC hotels). Hotel is still undergoing renovations and only one elevator was working. Addressing comments about the street noise -- this wasn't an issue for me and I recommend requesting […] a high room not facing Madison Avenue. Overall, I would stay at this hotel again. Clean rooms, friendly staff, good location and great coffee in the morning! Read more
