The Rex Hotel - Toronto

The room was very small with few amenities but was very clean and the location and price were great. We would stay there again.

I was so pleased by my overnight stay at the Hotel Rex! Avi and the others were so warm and friendly and accommodating. I stayed here for a work trip, and while it's not the conventional business hotel, it's the perfect spot for the traveling worker that likes to have some fun. The staff here are very friendly and will lead you in the right direction if you want to do some exploring. I did like because I decide stay one more day, they first cherged my credit card, and than the manager told me I have to move to another room because my room is not more available. We stayed there so we could walk to the Princess of Wales theatre, what a great chouce. There is music in the bar during the day and evening, Jaz and Blues but even if you are not a fan, it is interesting. The breakfast was great and very reasonable. I loved the REX and am sure to be back again as it is in a great location and just such a cool place. I was on the third floor and found no trouble taking a nap even with the bands playing away. I am sure it is a bit noisier on the second floor but my room was great. The room was in brand new condition with a cool clear glass shower and stainless steel […] sink in the bathroom. Very simple hotel for those who enjoy music (you can hear the live music from downstairs till maybe midnight or so) and don't need a lot of space (we were traveling with only carryon size bags and had just enough room to keep them aside). The location was great, close to Osgoode subway and the streetcar, and walkable to Chinatown to the west, CN Tower/entertainment […] area to the south, and Yonge to the east. The free wifi works fine and the "free breakfast" is toast and coffee but it's ample to get your day started. They only provide bar soap so bring your own travel size shampoos and whatnot. The room I had was small but comfortable. Clean but no frills. Great place for one person but two is a stretch but also possible. The Jazz bar downstairs was great. No complaints. I'll stay there during my next visit to Toronto.

For the money you pay, this hotel is a joke! I came to show at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and needed a room. Honest to God, my horses sleep in bigger stalls than my room was! The bathroom was very small but the shower was very nice. There was no shampoo or conditioner, no telephone, or alarm clock.. and NO TOILET PAPER. Checking in was quite […] confusing because there was no front desk or anything, you had to go to the bar and get your room checked in. I personally asked the manager to bring up toilet paper but never once did he or anyone else bring any to our room. The rooms are tiny, with no frills or extras included; but if you are looking for a clean room, a friendly staff, and a great location for a reasonable price then the Rex is perfect! The restaurant serves great food, and the live music only adds to the atmosphere. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Very cramped Some staff nice, others rude The bare basics in terms of amenities Worth about half what they charged In sum - if you have no other options, this hotel will pass for a roof over your head.

The hotel is in a great location, staff is great (very friendly people) and the rooms are ok (very small and not really beautiful, but you can live with it). Only trouble, if you have problems with stairs is that they don't have elevators for first and second floors.

Back in the 70's I lived in downtown Toronto and it was a safe and lovely place to live and work. Times change..... Staying at the Rex Hotel down near the harbor nearly 40 years later was a treat and a half. The neighbourhood was full of wonder, sights, sounds and culture, the people friendly, polite and walking the streets after dark held no worries. […] I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The hotel itself sends one off to sleep to the muted soothing refrains of jazz. coming from the Jazz Bar on the ground floor. The hotel staff made me feel welcome, cosseted and soooo glad to have me with them. The only criticism I can think of is not having a phone in my room, but in the end that didn't matter at all. I just stayed at The Rex while attending a conference in Toronto. the hotel rooms were quite sparten, but quite nice, the staff was very helpful, and the location was fanastic! Seemed that a half hour walk in any direction gave you 90% of all things to see in downtown Toronto - from the harbour front to the University, from Kensington Market to the […] Distilery District. Jump on a "BIXI" bike from a rental station around the corner and the travelling can be farther and faster! The Osgood subway station is just a couple of blocks away, so connecting to farther north is great, and getting to union station for the Go Trains is easy too! And there are trams heading around all the time! Shopping up and down Queen Street W is amazing with all sorts of shops and resturants! And the theatres Spent most of time away from the hotel, but when I returned, the best jazz and blues found anywhere! Very relaxing after a bunch of long days. The music sets usually finsh before midnight, so a night's sleep is doable, however being an older building, the sounds do resonate thoughout. For someone who likes to get to bed early, might not be the best, or at least ask the staff for an upper floor room. Read more

This hotel is run by friendly staff and has a great atmosphere, situated on top of the REX jazz and blues club. The surronding area is also great, lots of street life and entertainment and eating possibilities.
