Having stayed at Villa San Michele in the past I can't help but make the comparison as the room rates here were not much different. This hotel is a beautiful old estate and it is very "historical" in feel but the finishing touches need a bit of improvement for the price of the rooms. The restaurant is of good quality. This hotel is located at the bottom […] of the hill of Fiesole and it does have a beautiful view of the Dome of Florence but is a bit far from the village of Fiesole. When returning to Fiesole I would probably choose Villa San Michele if I was looking for a hotel in this price range. Read more

We stayed 4 nights at Il Salvatino for the last leg of our honeymoon in Italy. It came highly recommended to us from a colleague who also spent her honeymoon there so we thought we saved the best for last. When we arrived we were just stunned with how beautiful the hotel and surrounding area was -- it sits on top of a hill overlooking Florence and it […] is really quite breathtaking. The hotel touts it's service as its best asset and even has a "Service Ambassador" readily available 24 hours a day for "anything" you may need. Unfortunately, the staff and service was the least impressive (and at times quite frustrating part of our stay -- and quite frankly did not even come close to the service we received at other hotels across Italy and Greece. The staff was really uptight, never greeted us by name (only by our room number), never congratulated us on our honeymoon, and at times made us feel uncomfortable because they were so serious all the time! On one occassion when we were out late in Florence and unable to get a taxi back to the hotel, we had to go to another hotel in Florence and have them call us a taxi because the Service Ambassador at Il Salvatino told us they were unable to help us. And when we got back to the hotel the security guard was sleeping and so it took 10 minutes before we could get him to wake up and come unlock the gate. We also never received our wake up call on our last day there. It just seemed odd for a hotel that touts it's service the way it does. Read more

Our stay at Il Salviatino was incredible. The service is unlike any other I've ever experienced. There are managers/attendants all around the property to serve your every need, The rooms are lovely and the beds are really comfortable. They are low platform beds, which could be a little troublesome for elderly guests, but we loved it, Wonderful shower […] and bathroom too. This hotel is so romantic and beautiful. Reserve a room with a view of Florence, definitely worth it! There are candles lit throughout the property inside and out at night which creates a beautiful atmosphere for sitting in the couches in the garden. Lino and Stephan, the managers, were incredible and made sure we had a flawless stay. We were treated like royalty. The hotel has wonderful smelling oil infusers everywhere which gave this hotel a sensuous feel. The food in the restaurant was amazing! They kept bringing us creations from the chef as added snacks...appetizers and two extra desserts. The breakfast was included and was more than you would imagine for Europe...crepes with custard/fruit, eggs florentine, etc. Fantastic all around, The spa was really nice too. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to get away from downtown and be completely spoiled. There is a very convenient free shuttle to town every hour, Loved our stay here! Il Salviatino won an award in 2010 as "Best Hideway in the World", and it is just that. The architecture, finish and interior design is outstanding. The staff (called ambassadors) is very attentive - although a couple of requests for taxis and clean coffee cups for the in-room cappuccino machine were dropped - and eager to please. However, Il Salviatino […] is not in Florence. It is on a beautiful hillside location overlooking Florence, on the road to the spectacular Tuscan town of Fiesole. Although the hotel provides several daily shuttles to and from the center of Florence, it is not like being able to walk to the hotel from the Ponte Vecchio in the middle of the night. If you want a city center hotel, this is not the place for you, and anyone should plan on a couple of daily Euro 20 - 30 each way taxi rides each day, so that you can enjoy Florence at your convenience, and to get back to the hotel after dinner. I treated my daughter for her 21st and we had the most amazing time in Florence but the highlight was staying at this wonderful hotel. The staff were fabulous and could not do enough for us. We had our very own "butler" who helped us out when needed. It most definitely warranted its 5 stars and more. I would return to Florence just to stay in this hotel. The villa is beautiful and has retained the feel of a home rather than a hotel. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. The highlight for me was the stone terrace, lit by candles, where we sat on the evening of our arrival and watched from the hills as the lights came on in Florence. The only […] negative about it was that it is a 25 minute journey into Florence centre (there is a free hourly shuttle bus during the day) but it was worth it for the lovely gardens and the views of Florence and the surrounding countryside. The hotel is a very different experience from the usual. There is no check-in desk for example, instead you are met by your personal representative at the hotel entrance and shown around the facilities and your room. Whenever you want anything you simply phone your representative and he sorts it for you. The location is out of Florence in the hills […] overlooking but there is a frequent shuttle service to the City about 15 mins away. Everything about the place is special, Candelabra with real candles burning everywhere, its like being on the set of Phantom of the Opera. Brochures are often misleading but this place is exactly as it looks in the brochure. I would recommend it to anyone, except people with children, as it might be a bit too adult for them. We went in late November for 4 nights so we were unable to use the outdoor facilities, I would expect it looks even better in spring/Summer. Read more
