Disappointed
The older gentleman at the front desk was very rude during my stay. I think he was the night manager. If I come back to Iceland I will not stay here.

Good Deal in Reykjavik
We stayed for just two nights, but it was nice. The staff was incredibly friendly, and very helpful. The breakfast buffet was good as well. The room was large and comfortable, and we weren't cold at all overnight. There was only one male/female bathroom for our floor, but it wasn't a problem. I only had to wait for the bathroom once, otherwise it was pretty empty. The shower pressure in the ladies' room was low, but I could wash off fine. (The water did smell a little like sulfur, but that's not too uncommon on that side of the Atlantic, so just be warned.) It was about a 40-50 minute walk to downtown Reykjavik, and the view was lovely the whole way, so the location was actually really nice. The sound from the road is a little loud, but if you're tired, you'll probably fall asleep before it gets annoying.

Avoid
Overall, this is pretty much the bottom of the barrel on hostels that I've ever stayed at. Bed was terribly uncomfortable, showers hardly worked, and I was charged to rent a towel. Compounding all that though, is how far it is away from the city center. At least a 2 mile/30 minute walk to any restaurants, bars, or shops. If I had it to do over again, I'd spend the extra $10-$15 to stay in a nicer hostel or guesthouse downtown.

Good place to stay if you're not staying there.
More like a Hostel than a hotel. Friendly staff. Owner more than willing to discuss things to do in Iceland. Served our purposes, as we were on the go all the while we were there.

Non-central location = better experience!
The Capital Inn was clean, affordable and completely worth its not-so-central location. We had a double room on the third floor for our 3 nights in the beginning of summer, and the shared, floor bathrooms were always clean - we never had to wait to use them either. Although it's about a 45min walk to the heart of Reykjavik, the Inn had their own bikes for rent. There's a large green-space with many bike trails that encompasses the nearby cemetery, Fossvogskirkjugarthur. It's super easy to ride through this beautiful cemetery, then to the Perlan (a great lookout point and stop for water/gelato in the dome cafeteria) at the top of the hill, and onward towards the cathedral tower Hallgrimskirkja (all in all about a 15-20min ride). You'll even pass a geothermal vent in the woods nearby Perlan. Everything has sidewalks/bike trails along this route. Great scenery you'd miss if you stayed in the middle of downtown! Breakfast was always great with their selection of breads, meat, cheese, cereal, oatmeal, fruit, and coffee. Breakfast is only included in the small room rates, not the bunk room rates, i believe. Also, I know Reykjavik Excursions will pickup passengers for most of their trips at the Capital Inn, so a car may not even be necessary for your trip. Attendants were always very helpful, and wifi is included in your stay.
