For similar price to the George and The Riverside, this is a better bet although it is out of town. Main positive was one of the receptionists who was very helpful (gave me a heater as I was cold, found my welcome rewards number for me and linked 2 separate bookings so I didn't have to move room). However the other receptionist would only do the minimum she could get away with! 2 negatives for me: 1) the shower was a mixer tap so it was difficult to get a reasonable temperature. It was either boiling or freezing. 2) The restaurant was very cold despite all radiators being on.

Very happy,freindly people,we could not beleive how clean the hotel was,if you are looking for great value then this is a great place to stay.Very cheap beer,and the food was great value.Cheers to all the staff.

The Old Rectory is a gem. A beautiful house standing in pretty and well maintanined gardens.The weather during our stay (November) was not very nice but it made the open fires and warm bedrooms evenmore welcoming.Certainly worthy of another visit or two.

Very nice, charming hotel. Wonderful breakfast in a lovely dining room facing the sea. Nice quiet location. About a 20 minute walk to pier. Room I had was very small if there were two people sharing. #105. Also, this room was situated above the kitchen, so the bathroom smelled fishy. Nice perk - staff will put a free mini fridge in your room upon request.

Great stay, Very clean, friendly service. Breakfast was top notch, I would recommend this hotel to anybody staying in Clacton. Just a couple of niggles, could do with a clock in bedroom, TV could do with raising a little on wall. Overall great hotel but could do with a bit of modernization. "Great Hotel to say with 'waggy tail' + lone female"
Warm welcome - I arrived early and they allowed me to park the car outside the Hotel. whilst I went for a walk with the dog + to meet a friend. I got back just after mid day and they allowed me to book in early as my room was ready. Well all the reviews are right on the money. This place is the jewel in Clacton's crown. Wonderful owners warm and friendly, rooms clean, tastefully decorated with all those little additional touches - sewing kit, shoe cleaning kit, shampoo, shower gel, soap and chocolates that you expect from a 5 star hotel. I stay in a lot of hotels and these tend to be Hiltons, Holiday Inn etc. When it came to booking in this area I was presented with a choice of mainly small guest houses. I am so pleased that I booked this place. From the moment I arrived I was made to feel welcome, the owners are a credit to the hospitality industry. Everything was very clean and tidy […] but not clinically clean. Like a very nice tidy house. And that is what it felt like - very homely. Rooms was fantastic. No2.
