"Nice place to relax"
Went off season, very quiet. Staff friendly, ground and pool lovely. Room was large with nice balcony and first class fittings (marble and decorative tiles everywhere). Our GPS identified the hotel by name but it wasn't at that location so was a bit difficult to find at first. Would recommend for a family gathering or get away where you wanted to lay […] around a pool and relax.

Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Excellent Value and "does what it says on the tin"."

Rute is an untidy town, rural based industries and the making of anis and sweets seems to be its main claim to fame, but it is an OK location from which to drive to see surrounding towns and villages. This hotel is set just off the main road (ample parking - not always the case in Spain) and whilst, no doubt, splendid when it was first opened, is now showing its age. However, look at the price you pay: it is more than adequate, ticks most of the boxes, it's clean, has helpful staff, balconies for all rooms, a swimming pool and nice gardens and, looking south from those gardens, has views to die for. Highly recommended!
"Do not know how it has 3 stars"

Reception staff and management very nice. The hotel is so sad it needs painting and care. Do not know if we were unlucky but the floor in room was not clean and outside had not been cleaned for a long time, we had to wash chairs off before we could sit on them. Would not rate breakfast and there was a table with wet tablecloth on and it was still the same the next day.
"Adequate facilities, excellent prices, helpful staff"

I have just come back from Rute having spent 5 nights in Hotel Maria Luisa. Rute is off the beaten track with relatively few (mainly Spanish) tourists. It is deep in olive territory nestling in amongst hills with olive groves stretching as far as the eye can see. There is a huge reservoir nearby which is usually deserted and several small interesting traditional towns and villages such as Iznájar. For animal-lovers there is a donkey sanctuary up the hills from the town. The hotel itself has traditional architecture, tiled floors and several murals as decoration. The rooms are basic , but adequate with varying sizes of balcony (the corner rooms have the largest). One of the managers speaks excellent English having lived in Ireland for 3 years. The staff in general were very friendly and helpful. The Good: *Excellent value for money with almost unbeatable prices (with non-refundable online booking) *Very friendly, helpful staff *Charming, traditional building and interior *Large car park The bad: *Noisy (if you have a family with small children as neighbours , you'll hear everything) *Very basic rooms and facilities which will seem outdated to those used to modern hotels. *Functions or holidays (such as Christmas 'Eve) may mean the restaurant is not available to guests.
"Very Welcoming, Great food, Inexpensive & Good Value"

We stayed here for 4 nights recently. The owner is Spanish but speaks perfect English having lived in Ireland for a while. The room was basic but adequate. We had a lovely balcony overlooking the pool and the mountains. The hotel is is need of some updating but the staff and ambience in the hotel makes up for it. We had a menu del dia on the Sunday before we left for EUR 10 which was one of the best meals we had in Rute and certainly the best value for money. The only negative point I would make is that there were 2 functions on the Saturday evening which meant there was really no where for the hotel guests to be. However, I did find out that there was another room downstairs with a bar and chairs and a dance floor and I couldn't understand why the function guests weren't shepherded down there to leave the hotel bar free for hotel guests. All in all a good hotel and at EUR 39.50 per night very good value for money.

I visited this hotel with colleagues from work. The purpose of our trip was to visit a friend's property he has been lovingly restoring for the last couple of years. As there were ten of us, we could not all stay at the Villa so we over spilt to this hotel as it was close by. On arrival we were all checked in smoothly and then served with a fabulous lunch that all came from local produce. This was overseen by the owner/manager Jael who was absolutely superb as he explained each dish. For the price, the rooms were excellent as was the pool setting. The bar was very relaxed and friendly and frequented by many locals. A touch of real Spain. I would heavily recommend this hotel. During the stay we visited a bodega for wine tasting. Went to a festival in nearby Lucerna and also had a fantastic day white water rafting at a nearby dam controlled river. Top marks for this very hospitable establishment trying it's best to make memories.
"Off the beaten track - a place that will go far"

Just back from a weeks holiday in this area of Spain. Had 2 nights at Hotel Maria Luisa and 5 nights in Iznajar . This hotel is a 3 star and needs some updating , however it's charm is that it is not pretensious , is very good value for money and has a young owner who will be going far . Not sure if I have spelt your name right Raoul but you made our stay very special with all your information about the area and it's products and for giving us a taste of Spanish cuisine . Good luck with your website and who knows maybe we will choose to get married in your lovely hotel in the near future . Will definitely return to this hotel and use as a base for travelling around the region. Many thanks the 2 brothers and 2 sisters !!!
"Visited out of season but good value"

We visited in March so weather still cool and few visitors staying in the hotel. Had a dinner, bed and breakfast offer which proved very good value for money. For the evening meal we were the only diners but were given a very reasonable selection of dishes. We were given a table close to the fire and handed the tv controls so we could choose if we wanted to watch any programmes. Room was comfortable. Breakfast continental, buffet-style with good choice. The hotel is not far from Lake Iznajar and ideally placed to tour the area. Rute good centre with anis factory, ham museum and chocolate factories close by. Can be very busy around Christmas when people are visiting the chocolate Belen.
"Great value and super staff"

I stayed here with a group of friends, all of whom were in the region for a wedding in nearby Iznajar. One of the most striking things is how amazing the scenery is on the journey from Malaga airport to Rute, especially around the reservoir, which is stunning. The hotel's staff were its most impressive feature. The young manager, who spoke excellent English, was really attentive and you got the impression that nothing was too much trouble. THe bar in the hotel was also keenly priced and open late, serving good beer (and mammoth shots of spirits for not a lot) and snacks. The room was reasonably well furnished, with a TV, though the space was a little tight when it was being used in 'twin' configuration. The bathroom was nice, if basic, and was well maintained by the cleaners at the hotel. We also has a balcony with a view of the well kept garden and pool. I only managed to try breakfast, which was a straightforward continental affair. I wouldn't have said it was the freshest (lots of pre-packed croissants etc) but it was tasty and did the job). I would recommend this hotel for anyone travelling in the area, looking for good value for money, since it was certainly that.

I stayed here in June with a friend. The views on the way up to the town of Rute were spectacular. The hotel is traditional and quaint. The rooms were spacious, clean and quiet. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The new Manager is very friendly and always available to help and advise on places to go and things to do. The BBQ area is fantastic and the food is beautiful, all local organic produce, even the wine!!! The swimming pool is massive and has a good sized shallow area which is ideal if you have children with you. Highly recommended. Will definitely return!

The Maria Luisa is at the top end of town, set back from the road passing through Rute. The manager is energetic and enthusiastic about his new role there, made us very welcome and talked with intelligence about his plans for the future of the hotel. Our rooms were quiet and comfortable, with a pleasant balcony. The bar was friendly, and ideal for a couple of drinks before dinner ( there are tables outside too ) and we had a superb meal. We formed a clear impression that standards here had slipped over a number of years, but new management has sparked it into life and we enjoyed it. We were on a cycle tour, and the Maria Luisa fitted the bill perfectly for this.
