The Churchill Hotel is nice, but the new addition, where our room was, is too modern. We thought it would be more old-fashioned, because it's an old manor house. But the old part is limited to 8 luxury rooms that are probably lovely, but are above our price range.

Situated in the heart of York, The Groves is close to Kit Kat Crescent, York Minster, and York Dungeon. Also nearby are Merchant Adventurers' Hall and York Castle Museum.

Property Features.
The guesthouse offers a bar/lounge. A complimentary breakfast is served each morning. Public areas are equipped with wireless Internet access (surcharges apply). From the time I checked in until the morning I left was a pleasant experience. The room was great. Very comfortable. They were even able to accomodate... me for an extra night. My first room was actually in a separate building in the back. Very quiet. My second room was in the main building. I was on the second floor and there was no elevator but they helped me with my luggage. Breakfast was very good. The location is a very nice walk in to the town center and close to just about everything. I walked all over York and was not too far from my room. The neighborhood was good. Just what the doctor ordered after a long overnight flight into Manchester, only about a half-hour away. Convenient location close to town, hosts were friendly and helpful. Lounge/bar an added bonus not often found in a B&B. Would definitely stay there again.

I would certainly recommend The Groves, it's only 10 mins walk from the centre of York, and situated in a lovely leafy, err....grove! The staff and owners were very friendly and professional. Great food as well, and a good bar for a cheeky one before hitting the comfy bed. We will be back!

From stepping in the groves nothing was too much trouble greeted with a smile and a wealth of information . Room was clean comfortable quiet good size with a fab powerful shower crisp white bedding fluffy towels , 10 minute walk to York minster lots of places to eat and relax recommended by the groves info booklets in each room . Hotel about 15 mins on foot from York Minster and town centre, so in a good position but the walk into town a bit boring after 3 or 4 times. Hotel staff very helpful, good breakfast, room and bathroom clean and big enough. would stay again.

We only stayed here for one night, staff were very friendly and professional. Room was clean and comfortable and only a 15 minute walk to train station. Breakfast was good too. Would stay here again.

After strolling about the town, it was very pleasant to return to the Groves, located in a quiet street only ten to fifteen minutes from the city walls. The hotel has a bit of character and the staff are friendly and efficient. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Lovely B&B and excellent value. Did not have dinner at the hotel so walked into the centre for a restaurant which is easily accessible so not much of an issue, had a really nice hotel and a great breakfast. The selction of jams for breakfast are fantastic, so much so that I bought some on cjeck out, will stay there again!

We had a fantastic stay in this hotel, it really is 10 minutes level walk from the city centre (we timed it!). We chose it because of this and the free parking. The hotel itself is well run by helpful and friendly staff, the breakfasts are very good with plenty of choice and our room and (huge!) bathroom were spotless. Realy happy we stayed at this hotel . It offers a great base for exploring York its only a ten min walk to the centre , Yes there are closer ones but many of them either charge or have no parking . All the staff were very friendly and not false like in some hotels . The room was great value and very comftable and clean . The Grove er et hyggelig lite hotell hvor de ansatte gjør sitt ytterste for at du skal trives. Ut fra beskrivelsene på Hotels.com fikk jeg inntrykk av at det lå helt i sentrum av York, men det er en liten tur å gå fram og tilbake. Rommet var klassisk britisk med te og kaffe på rommet, og enkelt bad.
