"Great view, not worth it."
The view from the Parador is unbeatable, but the hotel is simply not worth it. We were assigned a smoking room (non-smoking rooms are hard to come by), and the room's air conditioning did not work. It was hot, uncomfortable and difficult to breathe. The walk down to downtown Malaga is long and steep and only for those in excellent condition. We took […] a cab back up the hill after a night on the town (the only time we had to take a cab to our hotel in 10 days in Spain). Breakfast buffet is lovely and delicious, but expensive. "Charming experience, beautiful views"
I loved the quaint hotel. It is located high up near the castle. The views from our balconies were amazing. The hotel also has a roof top pool and patio area that is really wonderful. The service was excellent, the included breakfast was terrific, even included Cava. Dinner was OK, but once we got in from our busy day, we did not want to venture out […] again. I definitely would stay here again. Perfect if u want to be away from the city center. The hop on hop off bus is close by, it stops at the castle, which is a 5 minute walk away. "Truly amazing location"
Old town Malaga had much more to offer than we expected. We arrived very late and would have appreciated some wine to drink in the mini bar.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

This beautiful location has splendid views of the city and coastline, including the bullring and historic quarter. It's an ever-changing vista to marvel at by day and night.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great views, restauarant ok"
We love paradors, this one had great views. It was about a 15 mi steep walk down to the old town - taxi back up was about €8. We were a bit disappointed by the quality of the food and general ambience of the restaurant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice hotel with great views of Malaga"
comfortable rooms, with balcony and lovely views of Malaga and the port from our rooms. The setting is lovely, quiet and it is only a few minutes in a taxi to the centre of Malaga old town. The barman was just lovely, chatty without being intrusive and helpful with drink suggestions. However I doubt the reception staff could have cared less if we were […] there or not. No info on check in about the hotel, breakfast time, the surrounding area....nothing. And they didn't want to spend any time helping us later when we approached the desk...and its not because they were busy! Nice hotel, nice surroundings out of town but lacking a certain something that could make it great. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"view paramount in this parador"
excellent hotel and good value but if over 40 you must have a car as the hotel with its location high above malaga with a superb view is a tough hill walk down to the townGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful weekend escape"
The hotel was very good as were the staff. Our room was clean and well maintained however the lighting could be improved and made brighter. The walk down into the city was a bit on the steep side but we knew that before we booked. However, he path is not lit at night so we took a taxi back. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and the food was […] very good again as were the staff. We had pre-booked breakfast for each morning and so glad we did as the breakfast was excellent and plenty of choice for all tastes. We will certainly use the hotel again Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Fräscht hotell i härlig miljö"
Excellence location in Malaga, can get the full landscape view and scenery of beautiful Malaga harbour view. Just walking distance to Gibralfaro tours spot. Even the hotel is on the hill top, but you may able to have short walk to city center in 10-15 mins only. You may also have public transportation before 19:00PM.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Flott opphold.
Utrolig flott Parador, luksusferie.
"An oasis of calm in the heart of Malaga"

I consider myself well-travelled, and despite some of the silly reviews on this site, I really cannot fault the Parador for its excellent location (overlooking the port and city centre) and its excellent restaurant - for both dinner and a wonderful breakfast selection, and for the lovely views. We only stayed one night, on route to self-catering accommodation further down the coast, but it was the most relaxing and enjoyable way to start a holiday! The rooms are not luxurious but they are very comfortable, and the atmosphere is so different to one of the smart 'noisy' city centre hotels, of which we've stayed too. Thoroughly recommend for location, views, food, peace & quiet
"Delighted with our stay and dinner."

We stayed just one night here and thought it exceptional. Our room was luxurious and the balcony with the amazing view a bonus feature. We used the pool area too which was great but did not have breakfast. Dinner was outside on the terrace as there was a wedding on in the main restaurant. We took advantage of a special offer for dinner which was 30 euros for 3 courses - excellent value and delicious! We were given a free glass of Cava on arrival too. The views from the restaurant were incredible as we watched the lights go on over the city and the planes landing and taking off at the airport. All in all a fantastic stay and thoroughly recommended if in Malaga.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here one evening. The service was beyond poor, we were not greeted with one smile the entire stay. The house restaurant was even worse. For 20€ for a main course, this was a joke. The iberic swine was cold and fatty, so were the potatoes. The only thing this place has is a view, everything else is a waste of money and time.
"As good as ever"

This is one of the relatively newer Paradors and never fails to meet expectations, provided you know what to expect. The two downsides are, firstly, that it is unlikely you will find a parking place near Reception and, secondly you must not expect fast bar service, wherever you decide to sit. That said, the rooms are excellent, all overlooking Malaga and it's harbour. Each room has a small balcony, air conditioning and a well equipped bathroom. The restaurant and it's terrace also overlooks the City and harbour. Dinner was probably the best we have had in a Parador: starters of six different tapas (sardines on toast, Iberian ham on toast, cold soup, fried fish, etc) followed by ( for my wife) chickpea stew with clams and ( for me) steak. The Rioja was good as was the chocolate fondant for pudding. The views around the Parador are great, from the north looking down onto the Bullring to the west via the TownHall, Cathedral and Gibralfaro Castle. The staff are very good in the restaurant, OK at Reception and overworked in the bar. This is not an inexpensive place to stay, expect to pay approx 200 euros for half board for two per day.
"Beautiful hotel. But poor managed."
07/19/14 Terje M Haugesund, Norway
The hotel is beautiful, set in a very nice scenery overlooking Malaga. Unfortunatly the all the staff doesent take their job very seriously. The reception was cold and unfriendly. Furthermore when the rooftop pool was closed, there was no excuse, just a fake smile. The dinner in the evening, on the terrace overlooking Malaga , was great with great staff. Overall a OK stay that cold have been much better if the reception staff had put in some effort making is feel welcome.

This hotel has old Spanish style. It is old fashioned in its appearance but is charming, and still has all the amenities you could need. It is secluded, so perfect for relaxing couples. Malaga's old town is only 15minutes walk down country path, or 7€ in a taxi. Pool is small and not many sun loungers but that's perfect for the relaxed feel. Phenomenal food on offer, dinner is a treat and though expensive, it isn't much different to the prices of restaurants in the town so well worth trying a few nights. Amazing trip.
"Great views of Malaga"
07/10/14 SarahMacDillon_2005 Salt Lake City, UT
We have stayed at this parador twice and love the opportunity to be OVER Malaga, but not necessarily IN it. It is easy to catch a bus to the city and back, which I would recommend rather than driving. (The first time we visited we ended up hiring a taxi to drive to the parador ahead of us because we gave up trying to find the road up!) The walk up to the fortress is interesting and climbing to the top affords an even more spectacular view than that from the parador. The pool, though not large, is pleasant enough. The rooms are clean, but our bathroom was in need of renovation. The bed was comfortable and the room fairly large. The staff were not overly friendly or helpful but were willing to facilitate the printing of our boarding passes. The restaurant is very popular and reservations are advised. Be sure to ask for a table on the balcony if that is where you'd like to sit. A table with a view will not necessarily be on the exterior. There was an excellent flamenco guitarist on Thursday, so I was glad to be inside that night. The 30 euro parador dinner menu is a good value, but the quality of entrees especially is inconsistent. One night my husband and I both ordered veal. Mine was thin and overdone, his was just perfect. Generally the other plates and appetizer are well-executed, so starvation is not a problem. We enjoyed our second stay at this parador and have already recommended to several friends.

This was a gorgeous Parador overlooking Malaga, the bullfighting ring, and the harbor from a hilltop wonderland. The rooms are great. The walk down into the city by the fortress is magical. We would definitley stay here again. We can recommend the restaurant for views and seafood, but the pasta and duck were awful.
"Lovely hotel, unfriendly staff"

Stayed for 2 nights at the Parador after a tour of Andalucia the hotel was very nice with wonderful views of Malaga , the staff were the most sullen we had encountered, we have stayed at several paradors in Spain but the staff at Gibralfaro were by far the most miserable
"Save your money and come enjoy the view"
06/18/14 PeekskillMike Peekskill, New York
Yes, the view is amazing. And the beds are so uncomfortable you won't sleep. And there are no non-smoking rooms, so you won't breathe, either. And the walk down to Malaga is long and tiring. Come up for a meal and enjoy the view, but stay somewhere else.
