"Great view, not worth it."
The view from the Parador is unbeatable, but the hotel is simply not worth it. We were assigned a smoking room (non-smoking rooms are hard to come by), and the room's air conditioning did not work. It was hot, uncomfortable and difficult to breathe. The walk down to downtown Malaga is long and steep and only for those in excellent condition. We took […] a cab back up the hill after a night on the town (the only time we had to take a cab to our hotel in 10 days in Spain). Breakfast buffet is lovely and delicious, but expensive. "Charming experience, beautiful views"
I loved the quaint hotel. It is located high up near the castle. The views from our balconies were amazing. The hotel also has a roof top pool and patio area that is really wonderful. The service was excellent, the included breakfast was terrific, even included Cava. Dinner was OK, but once we got in from our busy day, we did not want to venture out […] again. I definitely would stay here again. Perfect if u want to be away from the city center. The hop on hop off bus is close by, it stops at the castle, which is a 5 minute walk away. "Truly amazing location"
Old town Malaga had much more to offer than we expected. We arrived very late and would have appreciated some wine to drink in the mini bar.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great views, restauarant ok"
We love paradors, this one had great views. It was about a 15 mi steep walk down to the old town - taxi back up was about €8. We were a bit disappointed by the quality of the food and general ambience of the restaurant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice hotel with great views of Malaga"
comfortable rooms, with balcony and lovely views of Malaga and the port from our rooms. The setting is lovely, quiet and it is only a few minutes in a taxi to the centre of Malaga old town. The barman was just lovely, chatty without being intrusive and helpful with drink suggestions. However I doubt the reception staff could have cared less if we were […] there or not. No info on check in about the hotel, breakfast time, the surrounding area....nothing. And they didn't want to spend any time helping us later when we approached the desk...and its not because they were busy! Nice hotel, nice surroundings out of town but lacking a certain something that could make it great. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"view paramount in this parador"
excellent hotel and good value but if over 40 you must have a car as the hotel with its location high above malaga with a superb view is a tough hill walk down to the townGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful weekend escape"
The hotel was very good as were the staff. Our room was clean and well maintained however the lighting could be improved and made brighter. The walk down into the city was a bit on the steep side but we knew that before we booked. However, he path is not lit at night so we took a taxi back. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and the food was […] very good again as were the staff. We had pre-booked breakfast for each morning and so glad we did as the breakfast was excellent and plenty of choice for all tastes. We will certainly use the hotel again Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Parador is helaas was verouderd maar uitzicht maakt veel goed. Gratis parkeren.

"Fräscht hotell i härlig miljö"
Excellence location in Malaga, can get the full landscape view and scenery of beautiful Malaga harbour view. Just walking distance to Gibralfaro tours spot. Even the hotel is on the hill top, but you may able to have short walk to city center in 10-15 mins only. You may also have public transportation before 19:00PM.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Flott opphold.
Utrolig flott Parador, luksusferie.
"Great views of Malaga"
07/10/14 SarahMacDillon_2005 Salt Lake City, UT
We have stayed at this parador twice and love the opportunity to be OVER Malaga, but not necessarily IN it. It is easy to catch a bus to the city and back, which I would recommend rather than driving. (The first time we visited we ended up hiring a taxi to drive to the parador ahead of us because we gave up trying to find the road up!) The walk up to the fortress is interesting and climbing to the top affords an even more spectacular view than that from the parador. The pool, though not large, is pleasant enough. The rooms are clean, but our bathroom was in need of renovation. The bed was comfortable and the room fairly large. The staff were not overly friendly or helpful but were willing to facilitate the printing of our boarding passes. The restaurant is very popular and reservations are advised. Be sure to ask for a table on the balcony if that is where you'd like to sit. A table with a view will not necessarily be on the exterior. There was an excellent flamenco guitarist on Thursday, so I was glad to be inside that night. The 30 euro parador dinner menu is a good value, but the quality of entrees especially is inconsistent. One night my husband and I both ordered veal. Mine was thin and overdone, his was just perfect. Generally the other plates and appetizer are well-executed, so starvation is not a problem. We enjoyed our second stay at this parador and have already recommended to several friends.

This was a gorgeous Parador overlooking Malaga, the bullfighting ring, and the harbor from a hilltop wonderland. The rooms are great. The walk down into the city by the fortress is magical. We would definitley stay here again. We can recommend the restaurant for views and seafood, but the pasta and duck were awful.
"Lovely hotel, unfriendly staff"
07/01/14 Neil_JPontefract Pontefract
Stayed for 2 nights at the Parador after a tour of Andalucia the hotel was very nice with wonderful views of Malaga , the staff were the most sullen we had encountered, we have stayed at several paradors in Spain but the staff at Gibralfaro were by far the most miserable
"Save your money and come enjoy the view"
06/18/14 PeekskillMike Peekskill, New York
Yes, the view is amazing. And the beds are so uncomfortable you won't sleep. And there are no non-smoking rooms, so you won't breathe, either. And the walk down to Malaga is long and tiring. Come up for a meal and enjoy the view, but stay somewhere else.
"Lovely Stay with an Unforgettable View"
06/14/14 Carl H Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
We stayed 2 nights at this Parador. The room was, in general, comfortable and ample. Our only complaint room-wise, which was also the case in the 2 other Paradors where we stayed, relates to the pillows. All three offered 2 types (a sausage shaped long pillow and a rather flat pillow). Neither lent itself for a good nights sleep. Beyond the rooms, the views are worthy of a travel brochure. The restaurant, the patio, the rooms all have fabulous views, particularly of the city and port. The atmosphere was relaxed and a great way to recover from a busy day of touring the city of Malaga. Finally, we ate twice at the restaurant, since the Parador is isolated, overlooking the city. We found the food a bit inconsistent. While I had two nice meal experiences, my wife ordered the grilled veal dinner the first night. It was a terrible piece of meat.... mostly gristle and fat. When I pointed this out to the waiter, all I received was a shrug of the shoulders.
"Our favorite in Malaga"
06/07/14 Mojaquera Mojacar, Spain
We have stayed here several times and have always enjoyed it. The outdoor parking is free and the rooms are a good size. The views are stunning as is the historic building. Prices are on the high side as they have increased over time. I don't think you'll find a better place in all of Malaga. The rooms are quiet and you get a good night's sleep.
"Balcony, views to the Sea, nice large room"
06/06/14 Warren S S Melbourne, Australia
Our first Parador, stayed 2 nights, and it wasn't cheap. The room itself was very large, comfortable beds, and we were able to sit on the balcony and view the sea. Drinks (glasses of wine) from the bar were reasonably priced. We had the breakfast buffet Sunday morning and found that to not be good value. We also found it to be not that difficult to walk the footpath into town, yes it is steep in places, but its a ramp with few stairs. We did take a taxi up and down with our luggage.
"So calming; a haven of tranquility"
06/05/14 Philip S Basingstoke, United Kingdom
I’d stayed here about twenty years ago and had very positive memories, so decided to re-live that time. Having read many lukewarm reviews on Trip Advisor I began to wonder if I should have done more research and stayed elsewhere. We arrived in Malaga around lunchtime on a Sunday and decided to head for lunch by the beach before checking-in. I remained anxious. We drove into Malaga and, after one failed attempt, managed to take the correct turn to the Parador. The car park was pretty crowded and the outside terrace tables fully occupied. Groups were milling around and admiring the views of the city and the coast. I’d love to be there when there’s a bullfight as this is a superb vantage point and the crescendo of sound must be impressive. Check in was friendly and efficient. We had a third floor room with two balconies. The room was comfortable, spacious and relaxing. It had everything we required. Bed linen was good quality and the towels extra large and super soft. There was television, free wi-fi and a mini bar. Suddenly it all felt right. We headed to the rooftop pool, just for a view over the city and of the ancient defences in this historic area. Later we returned with a towel from reception and enjoyed the calm atmosphere of the pool whilst it was still sunny. We then headed down to the cafeteria for a cooling beer. Staff were attentive though not always there when you wanted service. It was still very busy and it was apparent that many who came for the view stayed for a drink because, as the evening progressed, there was more space and the whole atmosphere became more relaxed as just hotel residents were around. Having had a late lunch we weren’t sure if we wanted to commit to dinner, even though the menu reflected the region and was very tempting. That can wait for another visit. In the end we had a platter of the most delicious jamon iberico de belota and a variety of Spanish cheeses served with toasted bread drizzled with olive oil and pulped tomato: delicious and indulgent. It was magical watching the light change in the evening and street lights illuminated the city spread out below. It was easy to fall asleep in the quiet bedroom and we had breakfast on the outside terrace of the restaurant overlooking the city. Because there are so few rooms the place never felt crowded or frantic. It was a perfect place to wind down and enjoy the buffet with freshly squeezed juice and good coffee. Breakfast was from 8 to 11 and by 10 the first tour group was in the car park taking photographs. Had we stayed for lunch we could have kept the room until late afternoon. This place is not for everyone. It’s not busy and bustling. It doesn’t have long queues to an all-inclusive bar. It doesn’t have a gym. It doesn’t have lots of children rushing around. It doesn’t feel corporate and impersonal. What it does have is character in abundance and a therapeutic calm. I can’t wait to return. To give some balance- I felt that the coffee table and bedside tables in the bedroom looked out of place and had more in common with Ikea self assembly furniture than the rest of the furnishings. I only found a small area by the reception with a few comfortable armchairs for the use of hotel guests. Bearing in mind the influx of sightseers it would have been good to have a larger space to read quietly without the constant to and fro of visitors to the hotel.

We stayed here a few days ago. The location is well signposted just follow the signs for the Gibralfaro castle and/or the Parador from the city centre. The cafe bar provided decent food. The service was first rate. The bedroom was spacious and we had a fantastic view from the balcony. We ate in the restaurant on one night and sat on the balcony. We found the food to be very good and the service just right. We heard no complaints from fellow diners. A very accomplished classical guitarist played throughout the evening. The hotel does have spectacular views as it is situated on the hillside. The swimming pool and seating area were excellent places to enjoy the vista. There is a surfaced path leading into the city centre. It took us 10 minutes to walk downhill and 15 minutes to return as we are reasonably fit. Definitely a place to return to on another visit to Malaga.
"Never had a poor Parador yet..!!!"
05/25/14 Thomas W Mold, United Kingdom
Spent 10 wonderful days at this mountain top Parador and it was fabulous. The main attraction is the superb swimming pool which sits on the roof of the Hotel...fab sun trap, and fab views..!! Me and my sister stayed B and B there, but evening meals could be brought at the Parador restaurant at a reasonable cost, with a nice outdoor eating space. The downside was the distance from the city itself, either a taxi, or a good long walk down the hillside, and in all that heat...!!! However, the Parador itself is well run, clean and very lovely. Well worth a visit. Mind you its been 2 years now since I visited this one, but the Spanish take such a pride in their beautiful Parador's, I can't see much having changed. Do treat yourselves to a holiday in a Spanish Parador..its an experience not to be missed.
