Alston Inn Hotel - Quito

They were very helpful during my stay there, helping me with directions on how to get to different places. Very affordable price although the hotel is a little on the noisy side you can hear people coming and going in your room.

In a certain way I loved this convenient hotel. It could get a bit loud-ish because of the high hallways and a central stairway leading up. I found the art, delightful in a 1960s sort of way. The host was ever so interested. Night host, very helpful with info too. I'd stay again. The place is priced right.

This hotel is in a very unsafe neighborhood. The bed was dirty, sheets not clean. Basic lock on door did not seem secure. Water was barely hot. Cigarette smoke permeates the smell of hotel. Way too expensive for the basic services you get.

My spouse didn´t like this hotel and she was right because the bathrroom was very old and the towels were old too, son you can see that they don´t have any picture od the bathrooms in their webpage which is bad for any visitor.

I had two rooms reserved but mine had not been made ready. What I got was outside the building on the parking lot, which was actually frightening. Noise all around and all night precluded any sleep. Cheers from neighbors over a sporting event and the fellow next door activating the alarm on his truck as a way of joining that celebration were contributors, […] along with very audible conversations, not to mention cats fighting. The floors were filthy, the shower was moldy, the man at the desk was eerie, and when I was asked for my copy of the confirmation, I was told it would be returned. Basic hotel at a good location. It is a good place to stay if you are not too demanding, I guess it is a good value for the money. The location is convenient to use public transportation (Trole or Ecovia), and taxis are always available in front of the hotel at inexpensive rates. Only had a couple of sleepless nights because people staying at next room […] were loud and inconsiderate, but overall it was a quiet place. I did not go out by myself at night because that area of La Mariscal has become a little dangerous to be by yourself at night, during the day it was safe to walk around. Also, had some "working ladies" at a corner across from hotel, but that just added a little entertainment to the location. I would recommend this place if you want just a place to sleep and are not looking for a 5 star, costly hotel. The hotel was nothing spectacular but was comfortable. This hotel is not in the best area of town from what I was told but I saw nothing that made me uncomfortable. Door lock was less than fantastic. Desk staff was inattentive during late evening hours (10pm and later) so anyone could come in if they wanted. Water was hot in the shower, sheets were a bit itchy. This hotel is located right in the center of the city. Easy to walk to local points of interest. Hotel is old but well maintained. My room was large, with a window that opened. BED 'very' comfortable = quality mattress. TV worked well with DirectTV, a fair choice of english spoken channels = USA shows NOT dubbed. Plenty of places to eat within easy […] walking distance. The STAFF are great, some spoke PERFECT english, ALL spoke english that made communication easy. Very helpful for your travel needs. The Alston Hotel is a very basic place. It was a great price and the staff were helpful. The hotel room is very basic. The room was a cement block. It was pretty clean, but very basic. I loved being in the neighborhood. Despite what I had heard, I felt very safe. It was only a few blocks to the Plaza Foch, which has plenty of nightlife, which was fun but not conducive to sleep. I have traveled extensively in South America. Typical sparsely decorated room. A very nice low budget motel. Staff very helpful with arranging tours. A huge market one block away. The Hotel was a really modest hotel. Nothing fancy, but nothing ugly either. Basically, you were there to sleep and go out during the day, which is what I did. Quito can be quite chilly at night, and there wasn't any heat in the room, but the blankets were very warm and I was able to sleep pleasantly. (The owner even spent some time trying to get my laptop to connect to his wi-fi, but without success--there must have been some incompatible setting we couldn't find.) The price is right, too. The bedding while clean was old and musty smelling. I was uncomfortable at the idea of sleeping in it but it was late and I had no choice so I just put on a lot of clothes, and slept in it. There is wifi, but no computers in the hotel. On the other hand, the hotel staff was friendly enough.

From the Alston Inn, you can walk along the Avenue Amazonas or to the Old Town, whichever way you want... during the day. At night, this area becomes a haven for hookers and johns and I was pretty grossed out by it. Only stayed few hours as arrived 1am and we were picked up at 6am so literally a place to get short sleep and quick shower. Difficult to comment on service as we only saw the night reception lady who had to be woken up out of sleep to register us. Alston Inn is located near Plaza Foch and convenient to stay in Lima for tourists. But there's nothing more than location... Water pressure and temperature of shower is poor, a room key does not seem safe and wifi is very slow. Also they charged $2 per day for safety box at the front desk.
