"A+ service!"
I've stayed at the Waldorf in the past when it was the Elysium. It has changed a little. It no longer has the hip vibe. However, i must say that the service was excellent! I like to have things done promptly and my way. When im treating myself to a vacation i want to be indulged. The staff was excellent all of my requests were followed through.

"Last two days in Chicago"
The hotel is convenient to the many sights and amenities that Chicago has to offer. Upon checkin we were upgraded to a larger suite at minimal charge. The suite was beautiful, clean and comfortable. My main complaint is directed to service. We waited almost a half hour for our luggage to be brought to the room (3 bags only). When the bellman came into the room, he explained the lighting system and the other features of the room. However, he left with the bags on the floor and never offered to put the bags either in the closet or on the portable stands offered. I have a bad back so this is important to me. The hotel offers complimentary shuttle service to surrounding areas within a 2 mile radius. When I asked at the concierge desk about the service, he politely told me to stand outside with my wife and ask the bellman for the service. When I did this, the bellman told me "Could you get a cab?" so my wife and I decided to walk. Lastly, when our own car was brought up from the garage, it was parked and the keys left in it. No attendant was there to open the door and offer directions or assistance in any way. I'm not a snob and could care less about the points mentioned had I been staying anyplace but at the Waldorf Astoria but when you pay good money for a great name in hotels, you expect the very best. Here I didn't receive it.

"Fabulous hotel"
My husband and I took our first overnight trip away from our 6 month old -- and wow, we didn't want to leave come the morning! Upon check in, they upgraded our room and sent up a bottle of champagne. The room was lovely, the service was amazing and breakfast in bed (followed by my first full 8 hours of sleep in a row) was amazing. If you are looking to splurge -- look no further. We will definitely be back in another 6 months most likely -- and I plan to book the spa services as well.

All was wonderful! My only compliant was the bed. The bed was very uncomfortable. I stayed here before and did not have this issue. I did inform the front desk clerk and I was disappointed that I was not offered a credit.

"Holiday weekend, complete chaos."
This hotel has beautiful rooms & an amazing location. We paid for 2 Suites Labor Day weekend but: 1. The hotel was completely understaffed. The front desk area only has room for 3 personnel to check in. Not enough during busy periods. 2. The check in process was a mess. We arrived early & asked if we could check in but were told that as it was busy, check in would have to be normal time at 3pm - not a problem at all. However, we were told that somebody would call us when the room was ready. I got that call at 1.45pm. We arrived to check in at 3.15pm & were told that the call was a mistake and that our room still wasn't ready because "somebody was smoking in it"....this is a complete lie, because we met 2 other parties who had the same issue, and had been spun the same line. We were kept waiting until 5.15pm to get our room, were given complimentary drinks & were able to wait in our relative's room luckily, but it was pretty bad given the 5* status, and the cost. Plus the hotel staff handled it badly - I had to ASK for complimentary breakfast out of this, and listened to the front desk agent say "one moment" about 20 times, while we waited at the desk for 45 minutes. We were comped breakfast, but he didn't note it on our record, so had to basically explain it all again on checkout. 3. The swimming pool is a trendy "single lane" narrow pool so no room if 1 person is there already doing lengths. Awkward. Sort it out Waldorf - this is not good enough.

"An unequivocal 5 star experience"
The Waldorf Astoria Chicago is my new favorite place to stay in the Windy City. Ideally located in the Gold Coast district, the hotel has the clubby feel of a small luxury hotel with all of the amenities of a high-rise big city chain flagship. The staff members are charming and pleasant. My only criticism (and it's minor) was that there did not seem to be dedicated bellhop staff to help with luggage. These duties were given to front desk personnel, who at times seemed at bit overmatched by our rather voluminous baggage (we stayed there at the end of a three week vacation ). Having a dedicated bellman would seem like money well spent here .

"All around AWESOME hotel!"
This hotel offers excellent customer service and a very kind staff. The location is absolutely perfect if you want to be near the beach, Mag Mile, restaurants, shopping, coffee, etc. I am overall please with this hotel and out stay. The glitch that happened was that one of the elevators happened to go out of service w/c delayed us from getting to and from the room. But they made up for it by escorting us to the service elevator in order to get to our rooms. I plan on staying here again!!!

"Best Hotel Stay"
The service was outstanding, the amenities fantastic, and the food out of this world. Could not have asked for a better hotel stay. Wonderful, attentive staff were an added bonus. The room was beautiful, exceptionally clean, and wonderfully spacious. The health center/spa/lap pool are beautiful. The location -- at 900 N Michigan -- cannot be topped for access to shopping and restaurants.

"Started great, ended on a sour note"
I can't say enough positive things about the location of this hotel, the friendliness of the housekeeping and room service staff. The hotel is located in a beautiful neighboorhood, close to parks, all the shopping, restaurants and nightlife you can handle. We were satisfied enough to rebook the hotel after our original hotels.com booking for what we thought was three more nights. Unfortunately this is where I am sorely dissatisfied. We were only rebooked by the hotel staff for two nights and because the hotel was overbooked on our particular room type, they were unable to extend our stay in the same room but would have to move to a smaller room. All after we had ordered food late in the afternoon and didnt even get to enjoy it because we were rushed out of our room. Also after ordering food about 8-10 times during our stay, we recieved incorrect or botched food 90% of the time. The overall theme here is very poor communication amongst hotel staff and also the poor attitude and lack of helpfulness from management. We cut our trip short and left Chicago whereas we would have been happy to spend two more nights there. Unfortunately we will never return to this hotel. Again the service staff, spa, cleanliness are all what you would expect at waldorf, but poor management and miscommunication ruined all that. As an aside the pool was closed for several months and didn't open until 2 days into our stay.

"Elegance and Service Conveniently Located"
We had a wonderful time in the opulence of the Waldorf Astoria. We decided to splurge on our hotel and we will definitely do it again. We chose the Waldorf Astoria because it was one of the few 4-5 star hotels in the area that had 2 queen beds available. We also liked the convenient location. We walked to the John Hancock building and shopped at Water Tower Place. It was wonderful to not have to drive or find parking and we dropped shopping bags off at the hotel and went back out since it was so close, just a block off of Michigan Avenue. We ordered room service one night and got the most delicious Hucklberry Tart at 10 pm. The TV hidden in the bathroom mirror was intriguing. It wasn't the best resolution, but the novelty was great.

"Great location. Within walking to everything."
I made reservations at this Hotel for my husbands 50th bday. We had another couple stay here as well so we could go for dinner and celebrate his birthday. The staff, room, and cleanliness were excellent. We did have a couples massage the next morning and I would also recommend the spa to anyone who loves a great deep tissue massage. Great experience!

"Not quite up to my expectations"
I was really looking forward to this stay. While I loved the location and the room, I do have some complaints. First off, I was surprised that the hotel had difficulty meeting a request to split the room charges on 2 credit cards (this was a girls getaway and my sister in law and I each provided credit cards at check in). While the hotel took care of it, it took 3 staff people to get it right. The first two had the "deer in headlights" look upon the request. Secondly, there was no coffee maker in the room. While there was coffee "service" , we stumbled upon this and were not informed about it upon check in. And, when I went to get a cup of coffee from the caraffe at 8:30 am on Sunday, it was empty with no staff person in sight. Finally, the spa services were nice but the robes were very old and pilly, there was mildew in the hot tub, and the amenities (e.g. cold washcloths and chilled water to drink) were only sporadically stocked ( I spent hours in the spa on a Saturday and Sunday). And, while ordering room service from the spa was possible, the spa staff were not very knowledgeable of the menu. Overall, this was what I would expect from a 3 star experience. I have stayed at several 4 star hotels and this one was a bit of a disappointment. I would not stay there again.

"Anniversary stay,"
My wife and I were fortunate in that we chose the Waldorf for our anniversary trip to Chicago .I guess the best way to describe our stay is to relate what my wife asked as we were departing, "Is there such a thing as being overly helpful?" The staff was very efficient and helpful. Every question asked was answered with extra ordinary politeness and if the answer was unknown, research was done and the answer was given post haste. The room was as expected from a hotel known and honored around the world. We were extremely pleased with our Waldorf experience and are looking forward to our next trip.

"Excellence personified"
We were meeting for a surprise celebration with my daughter from England after a two-year hiatus. The staff are all superbly well trained, the facilities, the restaurant and bar are very handsomely laid out with wonderful food and a great selection of wines, liquors and local artisanal beers. Our room on the top floor was fabulous! What a great location and meeting place - we cannot recommend this hotel more highly - our very grateful thanks to all who work there in sunshine and in cold!

"Had a great time!"
Our Waldorf stay was amazing, our room was so nice it was hard to leave! We stayed in the Astoria suite on the 9th. The room was cozy and very, very,very clean! The fire place was a nice touch and was fun to have on during a late night snow storm with a glass of wine. Staff so nice very helpful on all request! Awesome location for shopping and restaurants! We cant wait to stay again!

"Got booted from room booked through Expedia"
My wife and I rarely get out of the house due to having a 10-month at home. She asked to stay in a luxury hotel with fireplace. Booked it through Expedia 2 weeks in advance. Got to hotel and was told by the hotel manager that our room was unavailable. I was beyond miffed. After spending the type of money required to stay in our "one-night" only hotel room, I was irate. There was nothing they could do. The room with a fireplace was unavailable and instead, we just stay in the 'normal' room. Very very unhappy!

"Eat the pest king crab legs at Nico Osteria"
Very good condition compared to all other 5 star hotels in Chicago. I have stayed at the Peninsula, Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons. In my view this build out and decor of rooms is the most updated. Good service. It has smaller boutique hotel feel than the others I've listed. I had a one bedroom suite for just a little more than a regular room cost at the Peninsula. I will stay there again, but I will likely stay at the others too, depends on my mood. Give it a chance you will not be sorry.

"Great high end Chicago boutique hotel."
When we've stayed at upscale Chicago hotels it's tended to be the Ritz, Four Seasons, Peninsula. For Boutique hotels the James, The Wit, etc. The Waldorf Astoria is like a blend of both. Great location and nice wide entrance way off of Walton Street.

"Luxurious & Loved It"
We had a suite and it was wonderful to come out of the cold to a fireplace with velvet couch and deep soaking tub with tv in the bathroom( mirror). Additionally, staff was friendly and concierge helpful. Very centrally located. I would return.
