"Paradise in midst of mass chaos"
First and most important; make sure you set up a transfer with the riad -- run by a Frenchman who speaks perfect English -- from the airport or train station. You will NEVER find this place by yourself and you may find the experience a bit more harrowing than you'd like. The riad truly is an oasis in the midst of mass chaos. The place is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. You never hear much more than the birds chirping. Everything changes once you step outside. IF you want a real Marraskesh experience but a place to escape to for some R & R, this is your place. The staff is competent and efficient, but not warm and fuzzy.

"City full of astonishment"
Staying in the heart of the medina pulls you right into everything that is iconic about Marrakech, from the arrival, on foot, through winding alleys crowded with people, bikes, push carts and donkeys, to a beautiful oasis of calm and beauty hidden behind an old Moorish door. Excellent people in the hotel, always ready to help; good food, comfortable accommodation

"The best of contrasts"
A fantastic place to stay, diametrically opposed to the streets outside and the approach to the Riad. We were very apprehensive when the taxi dropped us off but soon got to appreciate the complete contrast between where we were staying and the streets around it. The Riad was like an oasis in the real life of The Medina. Very refreshing, very stylish, an exact haven in contrast to life outside.

"Great Riad!"
We loved every minute of our stay at Riad Karmela. The staff were very friendly and looked after us well. The interior courtyards were luxurious and a peaceful oasis to relax in. The bedroom was clean and comfortable and we slept really well there. The furniture and decor throughout was sumptuous. The buffet breakfasts had plenty of choice and set us up well for the day. I can't wait to go back!

"Lovely, Welcoming, Riad"
We arrived by the transfer arranged by the riad (I think this is a must for anyone arriving in Marrakech for the first time), the property lies in a small quiet lane off one of the larger busy streets. The staff were very welcoming and made sure we were set up for our stay both at the hotel and in the city. We were upgraded to a suite which was great and the room itself was large and authentic to the area. The riad became a welcome sanctuary from the madness that is the medina!

"Loved the Riad and its location"
Riad Karmela is a small piece of paradise in the middle of a very noisy medina. The hotel staff couldn't have done more for our comfort. I'd especially like to thank Saeed for his excellent service, he greeted us with mint tea on our arrival. Explained the Medina, how to haggle with sellers, what to do if we are lost and the best places to see. This information was priceless. One tip, book your taxi through the Riad (via email), their driver will not only pick you up but walk you to the Riad. Normal taxis only drop you at the main square from where, it is next to impossible to find your way to the Riad.

"A sense of calm close to all the action."
Close to the Souks and central square, the Riad was well situated, full of character and clean. The staff were on the whole good however we felt that the prices for extras (food, drinks and the taxi to and from the airport etc.) were exploitative especially given the difficult location of the Riad to find if a taxi was not used and that the advice given by staff upon arrival could have been clearer.

"Riad Karmela, A peaceful welcome calm in a storm!"
The Riad Karmela is well located in the Medina, would definitely use their taxi service to & from airport or you'll never find it!! (15€ each way) We were greeted by the very pleasant & welcoming Bouchra who immediately seated us, gave us mint tea, Moroccan pastries and a map which she kindly took time to point out very useful info regarding all aspects of our visit. The Riad itself is authentically, decorated, and very peaceful and relaxing and there are many places to unwind whether inside or out on the sun terraces! Due to the nature of Riads being rooms around a courtyard, there's definitely sleep disturbance simply because of people coming in and out at different times & not necessarily being very considerate to others.. Also very echoey, just the turn of a key in the next doors lock can sound really loud! Bear this in mind before staying in any Riad if you like your sleep!! Breakfast simple but locally sourced fresh fruits, nice omelettes, variety of pastries breads & cereals. We booked an evening meal in the dining room which is beautiful & peaceful, meal was €25 each, so excited as had read reviews of fantastic Moroccan cuisine but opened our tagine to find 2 chicken legs 2 halved potatoes, 4 green olives .. Accompanied with a few cold pickled vegetables!! SO so disappointed, maybe just a bad night!! Wifi is dreadfully inadequate! The staff happily helped with any requests & Atlas excursions is a must do!! All in all we had a lovely, fun, relaxing stay!

"French hotel"
The riad is really beautiful place to relax in a contrast from the hustle and bustle outside. The interior is beautiful modern yet cultural taste of morrocan designs. The main reception area is wonderful with its peaceful fountain. The rooms could be better as we had two single beds to make our double. Basic necessities provided such as water clean sheets, not like a hotel you dont have further room service although the staff are more then happy to help. Food is provided on reservation dinner takes place on the roof top your better off eating in the main market square as it is far cheaper! All in all it is a lovely place to stay but perhaps enquire about the facilities your room provides.

"Peaceful haven"
We had a wonderful stay at Riad Karmela, it really is an oasis of calm. Wonderful rooms and so many little rooms, courtyards and terraces to sit in and while away the hours. The evening meals are superb as is the service, we were delighted with our meal. The starter was 5 bowls of different vegetables, beans and lentils, all deliciously flavoured and served with Morrocan bread. Then a steaming tagine of chicken and olives, (more bread of wanted) followed by a scrummy flourless chocolate cake, ice cream, fresh orange and cinnamon cooked apple. To end the meal there was typical mint tea and little almond petit fours. Sadly the breakfast wasn't of the same standard. It is a typical morrocan breakfast, which in itself is lovely, freshly squeezed orange juice, bread, pastries, jams, fruit and homemade pancakes but it is very hit and miss. On the first day there was an omlette, smoked salmon, ham and some freshly made griddled bread but the next day there was none of this and nothing to replace it. Then on the third day we went for breakfast and chose our breakfast from a limited choice, then when we came back for more tea (you have to go and get this yourself, coffee is on the table) there were two different types of cheese, raspberries and some different pastries. It really shouldn't depend on what time you go for breakfast as to what you get. Also, the staff are not very personable, at all, in the mornings, despite sometimes they are the amazing staff that served you in the eve

"Beautiful riad in the heart of the medina"
A friend and I recently stayed at Riad Karmela. It was my second time to Marrakesh and the first time for my friend. We picked Riad Karmela because of its central location in the medina and its lovely courtyards (orange trees were a major bonus!). On arrival, we were not disappointed and were welcomed warmly with mint tea and pastries and an explanation of the facilities, location, things to do, etc. The room (Zohra) on the first floor was clean and spacious and we found the meals to be very good, particularly the Morrocan dinners which were very fresh, generous and tasty (especially being vegetarians). Breakfast also had a good selection of items - taken on the spacious roof terrace. The main square and the souks are a 10-min walk away (without having to go through the main square which was a huge benefit), and it definitely makes sense to make a note of landmarks to help find your way. There are many wonderful riads in the medina and some not so good, but Riad Karmela is definitely one I'd stay at again. Special thanks to Mus, who was particuarly friendly and helpful. Tip - worth booking the airport transfer provided by the riad in advance.

"Lovely Riad"
We had 4 nights in Riad Karmela and it was fantastic. Lovely helpful staff, rooms were nice enough but we didn't spend long in them so were fine. The courtyards and roof terrace and little nooks and crannies were beautiful. From the madness outside the door it was a peaceful tranquil oasis I'd recommend any day of the week.

"Great hotel, central location, helpful staff"
My girlfriend and I stayed in Riad Karmela for 8 nights at the end of August. It was quiet season in Marrakech, and as we were at the Riad for such a long time they upgraded us free of charge to a suite! The Riad was very clean and tidy, and the staff spoke great English. They provided us with a very informative map and advised us on the best places to go and visit. We also organised two excursions with them, to the Sahara and Atlas Mountains - both were very reasonably priced. The Riad's location made the old medina very accessible, and we could walk to and from the main square in ~10 minutes, at any time of night. The food at the roof-top restaurant was arguably the best authentic moroccan food we had all week. We would highly recommend this Riad.

"A friendly oasis in the heart of the medina."
Arriving at Riad Karmela, by pre-arranged petit taxi transfer, then led the last two three hundred metres by a porter, you're thrown immediately into the heat, bustle, smell and dust of the medina. Donkey carts, mopeds and cyclists share the narrow streets. But inside the riad, all is quiet and calm. The host offers mint tea in the courtyard and gives lots of essential advice about getting around, where to eat, how to bargain and how to avoid scams. In the background, a couple of tortoises can be seen wandering in search of the grapes that guests sometimes leave for them. The room was large with a huge and comfortable double bed and there was also a single. The bathroom was fairly basic, mostly smooth plaster rather than tiles, but everything worked. There was aircon if you needed it and wifi (albeit at times a little slow) was available. Breakfast was served on the extensive roof terrace, a delightful space featuring bougainvillea and local bird life. On offer were bread, croissants and pastries, cheese, cold meats, omelette, yogurt, nuts, cereals and preserves, plus freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee. We also had dinner there one evening and that, too, was very good, though it's a set, no-choice menu. At other times of day, the terrace offers shaded seating and you can order drinks. It's possible to stay in parts of Marrakech, in modern hotels, that are entirely divorced from the spirit of the medina. This, though, is the real deal.

"An oasis of calm at Riad Karmela"
A stunning riad, polite and friendly staff and an excellent driver (thank you Karmal). The riad is immaculate and peaceful amidst the bustle of the medina; our room, the junior suite named Kaiss was incredible, a four poster with rose petals scattered everywhere on arrival and our own private terrace/balcony. The hammam in house was the best we've had, massage and facial reasonably priced and a beautiful 3 hours. Highly recommend to anyone who would like a traditional experience.

Great stay here, it's in a really good location, short walk from taxi drop off so not too far to lug your bags. Walk straight out into the souks, one minute to the fruit/veg market, and straight on into all the souks, which are all lit at night so no problems walking back in the evenings. Staff very helpful with advice about prices to pay, places to go, restaurant advice etc. Lovely roof top terraces above several courtyards where we had a good breakfast in the sunshine. "Beautiful Oasis!"
The Riad Karmela was truly a fantastic find & fabulous place to stay! Nothing was too much trouble for some great young staff with a real sense of dedication to make your stay tranquil & perfect within the safe, tranquil walls, terraces & gardens this Riad has to offer, Our traditional green room was bright, spotless clean, a great quirky little en-suite & very comfortable bed, plenty of extra bedding, freshly made every day. Nice, leisurely breakfast on the rooftop garden terrace with little birds, lunch taken downstairs by the pool & orange trees, with the two tortoises : ) ....delicious dinner cooked to order, served wherever you choose to sit, & mint tea with sweets is only an ask away at any time! The whole stay was relaxing throughout, even with other guests, there was a delightful uninterrupted, comfortable peacefulness with the daily routines, attention to details & endless inviting courtyards or nooks to quietly sit.

"Lovely quite hotel but few downsides"
The hotel is lovely, quite and nice staff however due to location I would reconsider to stay there again. although is close to the Suks and main square it is a hectic area with very narrow roads crowded with people, bicycles and motor bikes. It can be intimated. The breakfast is ok but not always tasted or looked fresh and during hot days the food is full of flies sitting on it which is a real put off. Dinner is also nice but at EUR is pretty expensive. Convenient if you are tired and don't want to go out for dinner.

"A lovely hidden oasis down an unlikely alley way!"
Riad Karmela was exactly what we hoped. Very tastefully laid out, there are more sitting areas around every turn, so that although our room was rather dark on the ground floor we could sit just outside whenever we wanted. It is a very calm place with friendly and very helpful staff. We enjoyed coming back to the riad after days out and the tiny dipping pool on the roof terrace means that you can enjoy the sun and then cool off. Towels and loungers are provided. The fresh roses and lilies add to everything. A great place to investigate Marrakech from.

"Great choice"
I did not care too much for the Medina in Marrakesh. Too many confusing streets filled with motorbikes that you have to avoid. However the riad definitely made up for it. Once you get inside, it was like a whole different world. The common areas were amazing and lovely to just sit in, and breakfast each morning was something great to look forward to. The staff were especially friendly, and were very helpful in giving us directions and arranging daytrips out to the Atlas mountains and to Essaouira (both of which were terrific). Very highly recommended.

"Very nice and peaceful hotel near the medina"
The hotel is very near to the medina and it would be wise to take the transfer option from airport which is the most stress free option to get to the hotel. We had a most wonderful stay though we had to change room after the first evening. Joel who runs the riad was wonderful in addressing our problems and was most helpful in providing us with a room to rest in on our last day after checkout as my daughter had an upset tummy. "Excellent Riad style hotel, ideal location."
Excellent Riad style hotel, this hotel is located in the old Medina part of this city. You will have to walk through the alley ways to reach the hotel, however, the locals are very welcoming and helpful. It is a very good experience. Please you donot need to catch taxi if you stay in this hotel, everything is short walking distance. The alleys with narrow streets have shops on the way to the hotel, and a veg/fruit market, it is a great location, only 5 mins walk into the main square. The hotel staff are excellent very welcoming and extremely helpful, you will feel at home. This hotel and the location is highly recommended. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Look out for the two toytoises, there are also beautiful fruit trees, and excellent several comfortable seating lounges. The balcony is very comfortable, with several different seating areas again with excellent plants and shaded area. Don't forget to go on the opentop bus ride and the horse cart rides available from the square. Anything you buy, offer the the price at 50% less then the asking price, if they say no then walk away and they will follow you to accept your price.

"Hidden Riad"
We stayed at this Riad after 7 days in the high Atlas so were very happy to be there in comfort after roughing it for a week. This is a very nice place, the photos are accurate and do it justice. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is good too. The location is excellent, hidden away as it is in the back alleys, and it is a short walk to the souks and only a slightly longer one to the Jamaa el Fna square. Be warned however that there is a venue next door that caters for local weddings and the Moroccans know how to party! We were kept up with loud music until 4am one Friday night which wasn't a great experience. The hotel moved us to another room and thankfully there wasn't a repeat on the next night.

"Authentic Morrocan hotel"
The Riad Karmela is very authentic set right in the middle of the bustling Medina it is like an oasis of calm. We would advise taking the transfer from the airport as you really wouldn't find the Riad if it were your first visit to Marrakech. We were tickled with the two tortoise ambling round the central courtyard, which to us seemed more like a sitting room than an outside space, tempted also to pick oranges from the trees there. We were a little disappointed by our room, we had booked a superior room but it was very basic, dark and quite small, also as it was located on the ground floor we often found other guests would sit on the sofas right outside our windows meaning it didn't feel very private. Despite the hotel advertising the rooms as having complimentary wifi it didn't actually reach that far so we would usually have to go to the main courtyard to pick up messages. there was no music, radio or TV in the room and as we couldn't pick up radio via the internet it did make it very quiet in the room, it would have been nice to have had something to play music on. Our first night we ate dinner in the Riad - chicken tagine which was very good and it was nice to be able to relax without having to go straight out, having arrived late. Breakfast was very simple but lovely, served up on the roof terraces from where the views were spectacular. All the staff were friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English or French. We would definately stay there again.

The whole ambience of the riad is beautiful, and i have never felt so relaxed than while sitting in the courtyard drinking amazing mint tea! The rooms are simple but full of character, and i was very pleased to have a decent strong shower! "An oasis of peace in a mad city, great stay!!"
Our stay in this riad was brilliant from beginning to end. The taxi (booked in the UK through Expedia) could not get within 400m of the Riad as it is situate in the heart of the Medina. The owner organises for a young man to meet the taxi and then guide us and carry our luggage to the riad. We arrived at 8.30pm and were greeted with mint tea and we decided to accept the set meal which was on offer and was very welcome. The approach to the riad must be off putting to timid guests but we loved the contrast of the tranquility of the riad with the hustle and bustle of the surrounding passageways and the souk. Some of the decor and fittings in the bathroom were a little tired but it certainly didn't detract from the holiday particularly as the stay was competitively priced. Breakfast was buffet style with fresh orange juice, fresh fruit, pancakes, cereal, cold omelette, breads, jams and my favourites, fresh doughnuts. The owners were really helpful and the staff attentive. When our final invoice are arrived we discovered that our regular mint teas were complimentary. The attitude of the staff and owners was in complete contrast to the majority of the street traders who can make the customers feel uncomfortable.

An Oasis of calm in the heart of the Old Town of Medina within Marrackech. A variety of rooms and suites situated around courtyards, benefitting from natural light but also sheltered from the heat of the sun. Joel leads an excellent team of staff who do all they can to make your stay memorable. Breakfast to suit Continental Europeans and Brits alike. The roof terraces offer the opportunity to sunbathe even in the winter. Top tip is to accept the offer of an airport transfer, Medina/ Marrakech is a rabbit warren of lanes and alleyways and taxis/ cars cannot access the last 75 metres to the Riad. Made reservation here with my wife and kids and father in law. Both wife and Father in law are Moroccan. Was a sketchy part of town and both were afraid for us to stay there with kids given we seemed to need a security escort in and out. I asked for a refund for my 5 days and was given half back. To add insult to injury the "security" guys who walked us back to our car wanted tips for doing so despite our having paid the hotel hundreds of euro for not staying there.
