Prague’s “Little Quarter” on the hillside below the castle hasn’t changed much since the 18th century. Endowed with parks and gardens as well as historic buildings, it is one of the city’s most delightful areas, overlooking the Old Town across the Charles Bridge.see all hotels in Prague
"The hotel is real monastery."
We stayed in this hotel for two days. Staff is very nice. Hotel is very good.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Charming hotel, Excellent location, friendly staff"
We had an excellent stay at the Monastery, no complaints whatsoever. The setting in the Strahov Monastery is inspiring (as well as quiet), it is a short walk down the hill to the Charles Bridge, around the corner from the Castle. There is a tram stop across the street as well, which takes you in the Old City in a couple minutes. The hotel breakfast […] can be taken in their small garden, and there are various dining options in the monastery as well as in the neighborhood. Getting to/from the airport is somewhat complicated via public transportation; we took a taxi and (happily) were not charged an exorbitant rate (as we had been warned to watch out for). The hotel staff was always helpful in answering our questions and making recommendations. Highly recommended. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Unique hotel with awsome view!"
The room was very comfortable with an awesome view of Prague. The only negative was the early morning bells from the monestary. Still, we would very gladly return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"beautiful location, very peaceful place"
Very beautiful location, close to the center and many must-see sights. Staff speaks English, breakfast is tasty. Few words about receptionist Andrea, she is very nice and helpful. The down side is that only 3-d floor has air conditioners. Other than that everything was perfect. I would definitely book it again in the future.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Really nice stay!"
Excellent service from the staff. Location is great. Breakfast is outstanding. Room was ample as well as the shower. Only set back was no elevator but being on the first floor it was not an issue.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Original and amazing, just make sure you find it!"
Wonderful and inexpensive in every way. Great views and walk to downtown. Just make sure you can find it if you're driving or walking. Kind of hidden between what looks like two churches. Otherwise PERFECT!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel far exceeded our expectations for the price. We had a world class view of the city from our window.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A Wonderful, Friendly, Modern Gem of a Hotel"
Our experience at the Residence was wonderful and I recommend it without reservation. Jan and the other staff really went out of their way to make us feel at home and answer all our questions. They arranged our taxi to and from the train station. They upgraded our room free of charge as my back was acting up and the stairs to the third floor were hurting […] me. The breakfast was ample and excellent, lots of fresh fruit, yoghurt, rolls, eggs, ham, etc and bottomless expresso. The residence is located inside the Strahov church compound, which is a major tourist attraction as it is quite beautiful. To wander the grounds early in the morning and late at nite when the tourists have left is a magical experience. It is located on the hills above Prague and the views of Prague are spectacular. There are also three excellent restaurants within the compound. One is a brew pub with extremely friendly staff and fantastic beer. Another is a good Italian restaurant with a terrace overlooking the city. It is an approximately 20 minute walk to downtown, all downhill and a great scenic walk. The palace/castle and St. Vitus church, which, of course, are must see, are a 10 minute walk, again, all downhill. You can also take the tram into town and back, and it stops right outside the gates of the church compound. We bought a three day mass transit pass and it was well worth it and got us everywhere we wanted to go. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Fantastic location, friendly service"
Fantastic location. Service was great , particularly Andrea. Great for families.Genuine Expedia guest review
great location and staff, only downside for family with children is no room service beyond 7 pm. no lift, if you have lots of bags be prepared for a good work out. we were there in july 2012, it was hot, rooms are not well prepared for hot climate. despite all that, i really thought the staff help and courtesy made up for all other issues.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful stay at the top of historic Prague!"
The location could not have been better. Away from the bustle and noise of central Old Town, but within the Strahov Monastery complex and within blocks of the Loreto, Petrin Hill, the Royal Place and St. Vitus Catherdral. The views down to Old Town Prague from the room were spectacular! Staff could not have been more helpful and knowledgeable. Room […] was very pleasant and well appointed. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Easy access to Tram#22 (less than a block) which ran through the center of Old Prague which allowed for easy access to all of the sights that were not within close walking distance. We usually walked down the hill on our way to Old Town Square and the related sights and back up at the end of the day, but two evenings (after especially long days and miles of walking) it was very nice to have the tram to carry our weary bones up the hill. "nice to be a bit - not too much - outside of town"
My boyfriend and I stayed here as a splurge on a three week trip through Europe a couple weeks ago, and it was great. Very comfortable, great breakfast and wonderful views. Some people have mentioned the distance from the hotel into the old town, but we found it pretty painless (though are young and are accustomed to walking long distances). There were […] a number of different ways down the hill so walking into town was always interesting and we got to see things we otherwise wouldn't have, and when we were tired, or coming home late, we waited for the tram (though it does stop shortly after midnight). It was a great hotel and a very interesting location - fully recommended. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I booked this hotel for 3 adults and one child and was very happy with the quality of the residence monistary as the staff was very friendly and helpful. It has a great view overlooking Prague and is only a 5 min walk downhill to the St Charles bridge. Breakfast was included and buffet style and it was great. Only complaints I had was that one bed was […] a foldout couch that was not very comfortable but was clean. The place is extremely hard to find as it is in a gated courtyard with no signs outside and my GPS tried to get me there via walking trails. We wanted secure parking and it was available like hotels.com stated, but it was $25 a night not the $10 that was advertised. Overall, I would stay there again for sure! "A different experience"
A few negative things first: bed is uncomfortable, the church bell is very loud and seems to go for a long time at certain hours, lots of cobberstone street so wear comfortable shoes. Otherwise great experience; easy to get to tram to go into town for food and sight seeings. good view atop the hill. Becareful if you are out late because the night tram […] seems to take different routes to different locations. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel is great - the hotel chain not so much"
The Residence Monastery belongs to a bigger hotel chain (Ave) which operates several hotels in Prague. When we arrived to the Monastery to check in the receptionist informed us that there has been a problem with our room and that they are moving us to another hotel (Bishop's House) which is right near the Charles Bridge in a much more crowded and touristy […] area. When part of why I picked the Monastery is that it is in a much quieter part of town, I was not happy about the move. Between the taxi confusion and issues checking in to the new hotel, it took over 2 hours before we were in our room. We were able to switch back to the Monastery the next day and I am so glad we did! We absolutely loved the hotel and the area. The day receptionist could not apologize enough for the confusion the night before claiming it was an internal issue and upgraded us for our trouble. The Monastery sits on a hill over looking Prague. It is the best view of the city and the castle. It is in a little courtyard area with several restaurants. There is a great one that is built underground in an old cave used by the monks. The food and ambiance was so cool! For us, the location was great. It is a short walk (10-20) to all the major sites. After a long day of walking, coming back up the hill might be a challenge but there is a tram (22) that stops near by and the taxis are really cheap. Because the hotel is inside a major tourist location (Strahovsky Klaster) there are always signs pointing in its direction and it is very visible since it sits on the hill over looking the town. So we never were lost. We didn't spend much time in the room but the bed was comfortable and there was a good amount of space for bags and stuff. The shower had really good water pressure and was nice and hot. Also, there is a secure courtyard where you can park your car, if you have one. It is a bit expensive (about 20 euro a day) but worth it for us to have the peace of mind. There are only like 4 spots, so make su Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

A great hotel, with wonderful staff and a good room - very clean and quiet. The building is beautiful and tastefully renovated Well worth the price! The staff were very courteous and helpful - giving advice on visiting Prague too. It is at a walkable .distance from one of the central places in Prague.Genuine Expedia guest review
Very nice staff, lovely views and good breakfast. We were not told that reception was only open until 7 pm and our 'plane was later than that. We did not know the room was on 2 levels. The stairs were steep for older people with low ceiling height.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location lovely hotel"
Really enjoyed this hotel and its location, the room which was on the third floor and was split level , the main living area was comfy clean and very spacious, the sleeping area on an upper level was also very bright and clean but with being in the loft area of the building had limited head space around the sides of the bed. Being in the monastery grounds […] the location was a bit special with glorious surroundings and views. The only down side to this hotel is that there is no lift which meant by the end of our stay, the daily climb up the hill from the city coupled with climbing the stairs to our room left our legs rather tired and carrying our case down to the ground floor a bit of a struggle. Would definitely go back! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quirky hotel, peaceful, great views"
Slightly quirky hotel in an old monastery building. Excellent breakfast especially the scrambled eggs. Great views and in a quiet area - apart from the bell ringing at 6am! "Stay here. We will again."
A wonderful hotel with very friendly and happy staff. We stayed there for 5 days. When we arrived the guy at the desk gave us a very thorough run through on where/which and how to catch the tram, how to walk to the major sights and the hotel itself. He was very friendly and even came out to help grab the bags, a very rare thing unless you are staying […] at a more expensive hotel. The location of the hotel is what really made it for us. It is up on the hill right next to Strahov Monastery overlooking the whole city. It's a short walk to the Prague castle. The thing we really liked was that it was away from the main tourist areas so was very quiet. It would take about 10-15 minutes to walk to the Charles Bridge and from there the old town is not far away. We took a lot longer as there is so much to see along the way. There are several authentic Czech restaurants nearby 2 of which have their own brewery with pretty good beer. We tried a number of them and had a good feed each time. "within the walls of the monastery"
The hotel was absolutely lovely and I would definitely recommend staying there. It was situated within the monastery, and there is a tram stop (trams every 5 mins) to go in to the city centre. If people are looking to get away from it all then this is the hotel to stay in, but do need to be fully mobile as there are no lifts to get to room. "Great value hotel for adventurous people"
I stayed here for 2 nights with my boyfriend in November 2012. The staff were lovely and very helpful (and spoke excellent English). The hotel is in a lovely location in an old Monastery courtyard, next to some stunning buildings and with great views over Prague. It was also very quiet. The castle was only 10mins walk downhill, and Charles Bridge 20-30mins […] walk. The hotel is best for those who are mobile and able-bodied: there are lots of stairs and low ceilings, our bedroom was on two levels (bed on a mezzanine under the rafters) and it's at the top of a quite steep and cobbled hill. "Get place to come back to after a day sightseeing"
The room was very unusual shape becuase it was originally a monastery. This gave the room character. The room was very well equiped, with good supples of tea, coffee etc. We travelled as a family, of 3 adults sharing, which was great. The room had chairs to relax in as well, which was great after a day sightseeing, there was also a desk and chair should […] you need to. Your Ipad would work in the garden and in the bedroom. Hotel staff explained everything you needed to know, kept our luggage as we left late in the day, so we could enjoy the last day as well. There was a computer which you could use if you wanted. I enjoyed my breakfast, but the cooked breakfasts were unusual, in that they served green beans! I always found enough to eat. "Worth the effort"
I loved this place - its off tourist path, in a no car area, overlooking green hills. The monastery is exceptional, large and comfortable rooms, great service, a small garden for chilling out ... all perfect. The only difficulty is finding the place as it is not signposted and so NOT obvious where it is. Google maps also not much help as in reality […] looks much different than a flat map plan. Also, make sure you actually get there by cab or public transport otherwise a long and steep track up the hill. As I said, signposting would help. But once you get there you will not be disappointed. "Unique setting, that's about all"
There is no doubt that this hotel is in a unique setting. Our first impression was good, cobbled stoned square leading to the hotel, adjacent church, good brewery/restaurant within walking distance. However, the charm wore off when we realised the ground floor room had no views, as the windows were high up the wall and could only be opened by climbing […] a stepladder left in the room. As the hotel had no air conditioning, we had to do this regularly. The receptionists were friendly and welcoming, but reception was unmanned from at 7pm and through the night, providing us with a phone number for queries etc. Things were made worse by a gurgling fridge and regular plumbing noises from the guests' bathroom activities above us. Breakfast was average. Overall, we would not class this hotel as four star based on our description. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The Residence Monastery is a gem of a hotel, away from the madding crowds down in town, by the shunning monastery and on the edge of the wonderful parkland with stunning views with good restaurants and pubs literally on the doorstep. "Residence Monastery Hotel - overlooking Prague"
The Residence Monastery hotel is situated on a hill overlooking the old town of Prague. It is about a 10 minute walk away from the tourist masses of the Charles Bridge and the old town, but barely 5 min from the castle. The hotel is very charming, as the name implies, the it is part of the Strahovske monastery complex and even though there are tourists, […] the area is by far not as busy as the old town or the castle. We rented two rooms; both rooms had two levels with the bedroom upstairs accessible only by a pretty steep iron staircase. Not recommend for anyone who is not sure-footed. The bathroom and (in one case a generously spaced) living area are on the lower level. The other room had only a tiny downstairs room. The furniture is modern, but a bit worn. Definitely not enough wardrobe space, and one of the rooms did not have enough light to read at night. Very good breakfast selection and a beautiful terasse. Very nice front desk staff. Both the brewery restaurant and the Bellavista restaurant are very decent and in close proximity. We would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We booked this hotel for our first day's stay in Prague and it was a fantastic way to get introduced to the city.
Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
