King Parkview Hotel - Beijing

While in Beijing I was robbed and while it obviously isn't the hotels fault I explained what happened to the front desk person and he proceeded to laugh in my face at my situation. This was only the first of a couple other interactions with the hotel staff that left me with a very bad opinion of them.

this hotel is near by the tourist areas of Beijing, but their service and cleanliness is awful. I ordered a non smoker room, I entered my room and the smell of cigarette was awful, so I went back to the reception to ask them to change my room, they did, but the smell was the same on the other room. Asking for help to get around the city and look for […] stuff to do on the reception was useless, the people working there didn't knew nothing about the city and asking them to call a taxi was also useless, they say to you that there are no taxis, and they "try" to call one, but at the end they say to go out on the street to look for one. Even the day that I left they didn't find me a taxi to get me to the airport, I had to walk outside with all my bags under a snow storm to find a taxi, another hard task because it looks that the taxis in Beijing don't like tourists. My experience at this hotel was so so because first the hotel doesn't provide the currency exchange service. This is the first hotel that I have seen that doesn't provide this service. It is a very inconvenience thing because in my case I only exchange enough so I can pay for the taxi at the airport because I was counting on this service at the hotel. […] We had to go to the bank which thank god it was like 2 or 3 blocks away from the hotel. The inconvenience about this was that we had it to wait for the bank to open at 9am do a line that was really long which delayed us on doing other things that were planned to be done at the day.. The other thing about this hotel is that the customer service wasn't as great as you would want to have. I guess the only positive thing about this hotel was that the rooms were pretty spacious. The bed was really hard but I guess anywhere in China is going to be the same even if it is a 5 start hotel. The buffet was eatable however it could had been better if some of the dishes that were suppose to be hot would had actually be hot. I guess as a customer you get what you paid for. In the future, I don't think I would stay in this hotel again.. Recommend to read the comments/reviews of other people because there are 99% true.. Good Luck!! Read more

We stayed there one night only. THe location is central, yet not as good as Wangfuging area where we had stayed previously. Taxi drivers usually don't know where to find this hotel, even when we show them the card from the hotel with the instructions in English. The hotel itself is OK and overall clean. Stayed at King Parkview with friends on a visit to Beijing during the Chinese NY in late Jan. Stay was very disappointing. Reception was quite unhelpful as only 1 or 2 staff could speak English. Over 2 days they laid dirty clothes all over the lower floor carpet. Also the wifi which "works" in the lobby and lvl 2 was barely usable - lobby wifi dropped […] out continuously & did not work until you stood right next to the reception desk where the staff told us on one occasion to move away. We sometimes used the internet on their computer, but only for very small amounts of time due to inconvenience. There was no wifi on level 2, or in the rooms (cable internet only). Rooms were mixed, I originally had a room on lvl 2 where the heater turned on but produced no heat. With a temp of -11 degrees celcius outside, this was unacceptable. There was also no safe or wardrobe. I asked to change to another room & was given a room on lvl 5. This was an immense improvement where the heater was not even required as the room was v warm. I was advised by another friend on lvl 4 that their room was the same. So ask to stay in a higher level. Bed was firm but not unsleepable. A light did not work but there was a safe (requires a credit card), a small wardrobe & a small ensuite bathroom. The whole room was pretty old; not exactly comfortable but not unpleasant. But the hotel was v disappointing, the staff unhelpful & the place was depressing. Only recommended if you don't want to stay at a hostel. Read more

Just completed a five day stay at the King Parkview Hotel and I am well pleased with all aspects of my stay. Bed was comfortable, room was clean, air conditioning worked perfectly. It was nice to be so close to the local culture. I was able to walk to almost all attractions within Beijing within 30 minutes which was often better than trying to negotiate with local taxi drivers who wanted to take advantage of tourists. The Parkview Hotel is disgusting. It is nothing like the pictures and only hard core backpackers would enjoy this hotel. It is a smoked filled dirty hotel. Across the street you will find the Shatan Hotel it is a nice hotel with great staff. It actually includes free internet in the room and free breakfast. The hotel is located just 5-10 minutes of Forbidden city's north entrance and less than 5 mins to Jingshan Park. Take advantage of the small street - Shatan road, where there are small restaurants with great Chinese food - some of them have menus in English, some of them you just need to try your luck. When searching for it, orient yourself by the Redwall hotel that is close by and by Publishing House that is right in front of the hotel, which is little bit hidden behind it. Rooms were nice and clean. Little smoky as usual in China. The staff was pretty helpful. The closes metro station is Dongsi on line 5 - it is just 1.5km from the station to the hotel. We enjoyed our stay there, but we found the beds to be pretty hard! Also the breakfast (not complimentary) wasn't that great. This is a hostel not a hotel. Our room was old and run down, needed repair and TLC. Carpets were dirty and dusty, if you have allergies be aware. Hostel location is central and near some tourist attractions but far from metro station. Staff were not friendly or helpful at all. Would not stay here again.

Good location next to Forbidden city north gate. Hotel was good for sleeping. Only minus is that room was too warm, so to be able to sleep I had to use Air Condition (and that's in winter time!). Anyway, I strongly recommendate this hotel by its price-quality ratio.

Before visiting this hotel, I've read reviews from others about their bad services. However on the contrary, I've experience very good, fast and genuine services from the hotel. The hotel is within walking distance (approx. 7 min) from the forbidden city. In general, the room is clean and bright. Wireless broadband is available only at the lobby, LAN […] is available in all rooms. The only problem is getting to the hotel via taxi, not many taxi drivers know the way to this hotel. So if you plan to stay here and will be travelling via taxi, you might want to turn on your GPS when boarding on a taxi to guide the driver to the hotel. Read more

As possibly read in other reviews, the hotel is nice, but not fantastic. The price and location was right for me, although wireless throughout would be nice. The internet was less than ideal from the ports, and in my room, the only working port was across the room from the desk... Good thing they're small rooms :) The staff was a little more helpful […] than some have suggested, but often their English is poor or non-existent. To print off a form to sign up for a tour was 3 Yuan, and there is no business centre, so don't count on that. The front desk agreed to print off my boarding pass, but they have no PDF on the computer, so that was not possible. They also looked up which Terminal I was departing from, but they were wrong...so it might be wise to make sure you know this before (couldn't print off BP, remember?). They did call a taxi for me the night before I left, and it was on time, so that was helpful, but the taxi driver from the airport didn't know where to find the hotel - he had to ask directions a couple of times. The pictures on their website looks nicer than what the hotel actually is. In general it is run down with old, stained curtains and carpets, but at least the bed was clean and so was the bathroom. The bed is very very hard and you feel every bedspring on your body when lying down - so unless you're exhausted by the time you hit the bed you'll struggle […] to sleep here. The location of the hotel is good if you don't mind walking, it is walking distance to a lot of sites such as Beihai / Houhai park & the Forbidden city. However - if you prefer taking the metro, then it is not convenient. Skip the breakfast in the hotel - there's a restaurant around the corner that serves delicious breakfast for about the same price. The service in the hotel was really not good. We got woken up one morning very early by reception phoning us and saying 'they copied the wrong page in your passport, please bring it down again'. We were not impressed with this. This is definitely a budget hotel, but we got a good rate so can't really complain. But don't be fooled by the pictures - and be prepared for a very very hard bed! Гостиница неплохая, убирали номера каждый день (постельное белье и полотенца меняли 2 раза), хорошие завтраки, на ресепшене доброжелательные китаянки (помогали во всем, вызывали такси в аэропорт - 80 юаней).
