For anyone familiar with Club Quarters, the "River Hotel" is basically the non-membership floors within the Club Quarters. Very clean, very efficient & well-designed rooms (not huge, but make great use of the space). And the location can't be beat. Only thing needing improvement is the tiny basement closet passing for a gym.

The rate we paid was half of what the surrounding hotels were charging. The River Hotel is a bit small and cozy, but it is modern and well maintained. The location is outstanding, within walking distance of everything down town. Perfectly beautiful view of Trump tower and the Chicago River. Quaint restaurant with excellent Chicago style pizza, and free water bottle filling stations on every level. We will definitely stay there next time we visit Chicago!

The rooms were small, but for the amount of time we were actually at the hotel it was perfect. We did the tourist thing each day, so we really only used our room to sleep in. The thing I was the most impressed with was the staff. First of all, We were greeted with a smile and any time I needed information about how to get some where, or how long it would take us to get from point A to point B they were very helpful. Secondly, my husband had serious food poisoning the night before we were supposed to check out and go home. It was so bad that we had to go to the emergency room the next morning. Check out time is at noon; I called the hotel about 10:00 and we were still at the hospital. The staff not only told us we could stay in our room as long as we needed to, the manager of housekeeping sent someone up to clean up our room and make sure the bed was made up and there were fresh towels in the room. After spending so many hours in the hospital and being so far away from home, it was so wonderful to come back to the hotel and be treated so kindly. This was the next best thing to being at home. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and our next visit to Chicago we will definatly be staying there again. I loved the location as well; within walking distance of pretty much everything.

The River Hotel is run by the Club Quarters organization, but is the non-member version (and is in the same building as CQ). It has clearly been updated in the last few years, and the room was nicely appointed and relatively spacious compared to many in Chicago (I was in a "studio" room). Check-in was easy, the view from my window looked over the river, there is a seriously good stuffed-crust pizza restaurant (Bella Bacino) on the first floor, the location is very central, and the room was clean and well-kept. The only maintenance issue I noticed was that the sink drain seemed to be partially stopped. Also, the fan in the bathroom is always on and was quite noisy, but keeping the door closed dampened it almost completely. I was in town on business, and the room had a nice desk and free internet, so I was able to work easily. Because of the location, I wished I had more time for sightseeing.

The staff was attentive, well trained and polite. While the room was quite small, it was well organized and had all the amenities a business traveler needs. The bed was comfortable, the internet service was easy to access and the space was arranged in a way that helped to keep me organized. The only room for improvement would be some kind of TV Guide and better selection of channels. But because I didn't watch much TV, this was a very minor consideration for me.

My wife and I live in Chicago and sometimes like splurge with a night or two downtown. We took a chance on the River Hotel based on the great location and low special rates, and were delighted and surprised by what we got. Just to get this on the record, yes, the room is tiny ... when we walked in, we asked ourselves, "What happened to the other half of the room?" Clearly better suited for a single traveler to walk around, but actual amenities were perfectly great and cleverly and efficiently designed to make the most of the small room. Large, comfortable bed, plenty of closet space, thoughtfully laid-out desk, flat screen TV on a moving arm was a good space saver. Bottom line, we didn't think about the size of the room after the first five minutes; the amenities and the great view of the Chicago River architecture were what we really remembered and will get us to return.

The River Hotel in Chicago was very nice, with a pleasant staff, who were very helpful and a free "bump up" to a more expensive room (no charge) was wonderful. With the location, I didn't need my car at all. two block walk and your into the magnificent mile. I loved the refillable filtered drinking water. They have empty water bottles ready.
