Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman’s Wharf.

The Donatello gives you a comfortable room that is large for this city, especially for the Union Square area. It is in a great spot near Chinatown, shops, a short drive or ride to the Wharf area and Japantown. There is a garage on property that is the cheapest in the area, but is still not cheap. Buses stop at the front door and cable cars are just […] a short walk away. There is great shopping in the area as well with many name boutiques. Restaurants abound nearby and within a short walk or ride. I think it's ideal. The hotel itself is a bit worn, but in the middle of renovating rooms. Service is very good. It's a 3 1/2 star property that wants to be 4 star. Amenities are nice and there is a rooftop lounge area with free coffee/tea where you can sit and relax by a fireplace or sit outside and soak up the views until late at night. Massages and hot tub are available. I have stayed 3 times and enjoyed each. Please note the property is split in two, upper floors are time share (Club Donatello) and lower are hotel (Donatello Hotel). Room decor is slightly different, but service is unified and the same (one front desk and entrance for both it's just the floors). The time share rooms are last to be renovated, but still OK and you can find them online as I did here. There really is no major difference. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, especially first timers who want easy access to all the different spots. Read more
"the nicest people"
I have spent a week here every year for the past 3. The people couldn't be nicer. I love the empty fridge in the room, so I can keep healthy on extended business trips. The hotel needs a freshening, but otherwise, it works for me at a price that I can afford.
"This hotel is in a perfect location"
We were very pleased with the location and comfort of this hotel. We were 1 block from Union Square, cable car, shopping and many resturants. The staff was very accomodating and friendly. We loved having internet free and parking $28/day. Many other hotels charge much more for these things. Nothing negative for Club Donatello, 4star hotel. We would […] difinitely stay here again when in San Francisco Read more

"the donatello in san francisco"
nicely appointed, very clean & comfortable, staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable. the union square district is bustling, lots of great restaurants & shops, only 4 short blocks from public transport. would definitely recommend to anyone and would stay there again!
