I booked this hotel because I wanted somewhere that had a swimming pool and could accommodate a family of 4 in one room. The pool was better than expected and the kids had fun. Much to our annoyance their was restricted swimming times for children. We were not told this until we arrived. There was nothing on the booking confirmation to say that children could only use the pool from 9am - 12pm and 3pm - 5pm.We often have short breaks away and part of the experience we enjoy is to getup early and go for a swim with our children […] before breakfast.We had already cancelled a different hotel in a better location because of restricted swimming times. Small room with out tea making facilities as promised. We had a 50 minute wait to be seated for breakfast with no apology. We asked several times for yea and coffee to be brought to the room but received none and there was a lot of late night noise.

After a very long drive from the south Coast I received a very warm welcome to the hotel. The staff had a genuine caring manner and nothing was too much trouble. I could think of nothing better than a quick swim after being in the car for such a long time - the staff ensured I was relaxed and comfortable and had everything available.

It was very brief but from the quick experience. .. The hotel lift wasn t working, although I was offered assistance with bags. The room and hotel was a bit shabby and felt 'well used' for the price. I stayed here as my house was being re-wired and it is close by. I was extremely disappointed - our room had black mold growing around the bath, the sink had a crack running all the way through, the floor tiles were cracked, there were dust webs hanging from the lightshades, there was no welcome book on the hotel or the area, there were no toiletries […] apart from a sticky imperial leather dispenser on the wall. We thought they could redeem themselves at breakfast but it was shambles they continually ran out of food, queues were at least 20 people long at one stage for hot food, there was no contintenal alternative - no rolls, cheese, ham etc. Children were running all over the restaurant, the tea was via a bowl of loose typhoo t-bags and an earn of hot water with an overflowing dish to put your use bags and spoons in, the table cloth was completely covered in coffee and wet and soggy. There were fake tan stains on the sink and the food and drinks prices were very high. The TV channels were poor and reception on the TV was also very poor. During the evening 10pm till 11.15pm the room opposite 406 were having problems with their child and the noise of shouting and screaming from the parents as well as a hysterical child kept us awake. We […] were very close to ringing the reception desk as it almost got to a point that the the father was verging on physical abuse in the form of thumping the child! VERY distressing to witness. Overall stay was OK but hotel restaurant not open on Sunday night and bar very noisey. Breakfast adequate. Rooms cleaned well but no decent toiletries available which meant I had to go an buy shampoo. Staff always pleasant if somewhat informal.

Unfortunately after my first shower the floor was soaked with water escaping under the screen seal.The staff were very helpfull by supplying extra towels to soak up the water.Also the walls are very thin and we were awoken every morning by room next doors alarm clock. Staff very freindly and leisure facilities were excellent.

I had a spacious room at the back of the hotel with a pleasant view over the nature reserve. The room was decorated in contemporary style and the bed was extremely comfortable. Sound insulation between the rooms was good, although I did get some noise coming in from the corridor. Staff were very helpful. While this hotel was in a convenient location, the rooms were in need of maintenance. The shower control, which was operational, was broken in half, and all the taps in the bathroom dripped continuously. The most disappointing aspect of our stay was the meal on the first night. A steak ordered as well done arrived medium rare, and promptly bled into […] the potatoes. Fish was acceptable but accompanied by sauteed green beans, which were burnt black. All swimming in oil. The swimming theme extended to the scrambled eggs at breakfast, when the waiter was spotted draining a pint or more of liquid out of the tray of eggs. Most unappetising. In short, we would not recommend this hotel. Having prepaid for our stay, the receptionist at checkout was unable to offer a discount for the poor meal service. A pity. Read more

We chose this hotel as a stop-overprior to our narrowboat canal cruise since it was relatively close to the destination and it was next to a bird sanctuary. My sister is an avid birder so this made the perfect stop. Breakfast was included in the price and it was fine. The one thing to be careful of is the hotel is large and has a lot of walking/stairs […] if you end up in a section far away from the main entrance. Thankfully, we were fine with its location, but the wheeled luggage had to be carried up the 2-3 sections of stairs even after taking the lift to our appropriate floor. Hotel was fantastic. Rooms were big and clean. Only negative thing I can say is the rooms didn't have air con and with all the flat roofs you couldn't really leave your window open. If you are looking for a city center hotel this isn't the place for you as it's a good 15/20 minute cab ride into Nottingham.

Very pleasant reception staff and clean, decent sized bedrooms. Breakfast was basic but fine. Yogurt offered the first morning but not the next three for example. Only 2 cereals. The only criticism was that they were very reluctant to give us any toilet rolls. We had 2 rooms booked for 4 nights and we were never left any toilet rolls by the cleaners. […] We had to ask each day for each room. The reception staff didn't have any to hand either and had to bring some upstairs themselves sometime after. They said that the order hadn't come in. Good value hotel - very competitive rate. Compared to Travel lodge etc includes cooked breakfast and use of spa facilities but you will pay for all extras - toiletries, early / late room availability, extra costs for credit card. Also if planning to charge drinks to room they only accept credit cards not debit cards then charge you extra on top...

We stayed at this hotel because it was fairly close to the function we were attending, and felt that it would meet our needs. The reception staff were attentive and helpful on checking in. However, there were several issues that we were not happy about and we mentioned these to the receptionist on checking out. Firstly, there didn't seem to be any ventilation […] in our bathroom, if there was it wasn't working! The shower attachment above the bath was damaged, i.e. there was a big hole in the wall behind it, the metal plate was broken down the middle exposing the hole. The standard of cleaning wasn't as good as it should have been, the small corner chair in the bedroom needed a good vacuum. There were no teaspoons supplied with the tea and coffee making facilites. We found that we could not contact housekeeping services after 4pm which wasn't very useful! We had to go down to the bar to find some! The room was quite stuffy in spite of having the window open all the time we were there. There was a fan supplied. On the plus side, the room was well lit, and it was good to find that there was a socket next to a mirror so that I could use my own hairdrier, this is often not the case even in more expensive hotels. Finally, and this is a gripe which irritates me beyond measure, I cannot stand bad spelling or grammar. The hotel needs to proof read its printed information more thoroughly. The welcome letter stated 'you're accommodation' It should read 'your accomodation' It might be a minor thing to some people but it implies sloppy administration. Read more
