"Volcano best of trip visit"
An amazing location which is only about 5 miles from the volcano national park. The size of the home is very large. Great recommendations were provided for meals and sites to visit. The grounds were filled with beautiful flowers and trees.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Home away from home"
We stayed for 2 nights in late April 2014. We like the place immediately once we found the house. It took us quite sometime to locate the house as it was dark and we were not sure if we were in the right place as it was in wooded area and away from the main businesses. The host is very kind and welcoming and went out of her way to prepare special food […] for me when she learned that I was on special diet. The property has its own rain forest! We felt like home so when we left, we forgot to leave the tips. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location but needs an overhaul"
Friendly owner...helpful in guiding our day. Facility really needs an overhaul. Old and tired. Bathroom shower had mold. Breakfast consisted of biscuits or cinnamon rolls, payayas, cereal, yogurt and coffee. Served our purpose as it was minutes away from Volcanoes National Park.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Over all, it is nice to stay, home style hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We enjoyed our stay very much . It was a little cold because there was no central heating, only a room heater. The house was also just switched over to solar water heating so you had to time your shower just right to have the most hot water. The house was very clean mad if had everything you could want. We would recommend this property.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice bed and breakfast"
Hotel out in the country a few miles out of town. Hostess very nice. Helpful with information and directions. Good comunication. Small continental breakfast served. Living counters and hot tube is open to guests.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to Volcanoes NP"
This is not a bed and breakfast type of accommodation, not a hotel so many of the rating categories don't apply. don't expect hotel service (like fresh linen daily) Manager was helpful and friendly. Location a bit out of the way but quiet and lovely surroundings. Breakfast was adequate. Only relcoplaint was uncomfortable and lumpy beds.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

the hotel has very large shared areas like big living room, dining room, kitchen and television room. also the large balance makes the stay very pleasantGenuine Expedia guest review
"Perfect place for a quiet stay in Hilo"
Wonderful, quaint, little cottage with several types of rooms. I stayed with a friend for 2 days and I would definitely come back here again when visiting Hilo. Perfectly close to the Hawaii National Park (about 15-20mins drive) and yet quiet and isolated. Decent dining options around with one of the best Thai food place in the world (something completely […] unexpected!) just 10 mins away by a drive. The beds were super cosy with electrical blankets and the property was very well maintained, including a hot tub! Add to all this an extremely helpful manager when it comes to suggesting trips and local insight, this is a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of Hilo and the super expensive National Park accommodations. The only improvement, I could suggest would be the breakfast, which is average despite the variety. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A wonderful out of the way place"
The house is 4 miles up a small road from Volcano almost at the end of the road leading into rainforest. It is beautiful and very quiet. The innkeeper was very attentive with loads of info about local attractions and activities, all very accurate. e.g. which beach to see Turtles hauled out resting during the day. Breakfast was wonderful, freshly prepared. […] The house has 7 rooms yet plenty of space for everyone. Definitely would go again Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quiet getaway in Volcano National Park"
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Only concerns were the steps up to the front door and back door, and it was somewhat hard to find. If you don't mind driving about 10 minutes into the town of Volcano it's a beautiful location.Genuine Expedia guest review
found our bottled water to be in hi end bottles but were refilled from tap seal already broken, breakfast store bought biscuit rolls but some fresh fruit. close to the park not much else in area.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice B&B, Beautiful place."
The place is beautiful with well kept garden. The location is a bit isolated at 3.5 mile out on a narrow paved road. But it is really quiet. The staff extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable.Genuine Expedia guest review
My husband and I stayed here while we visited Volcano National Park on The Big Island, in August 2013. This is a beautiful big home, with several bedroom choices. It's tucked into a beautiful rain forest. We had a lovely, quiet room, and both slept really well. Breakfast was served family-style with delicious, fresh papaya. The hostess is extremely […] knowledgeable about the surrounding areas and the best ways to see everything. She had great restaurant recommendations, too. "Great home base for visiting Volcano National Park"
We were very comfortable in the Halana B & B. We were able to book a room with a King beg for us, and a twin bed for our six year old son. The lodge is close to the Volcano National Park, and the woman who manages the lodge is so helpful and knowledgeable about the park and the Big Island in general. Comfortable stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"B&B near Volcano NP"
This is a B&B style hotel about a 10 minute drive from Volcano NP. It is on a one-lane road and difficult to find (especially at night!) but the rooms are clean and feature space heaters and electric blankets. The proprietor does not stay on-site, but arrives promptly every morning to serve a continental breakfast featuring Hawaiian fruit, pastries, […] and yogurt. The hostess is very friendly and gave us good advice regarding local sites to see. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Comfortable, friendly, and basic."
The hotel is a house that has been refitted to serve as a guest house. The rooms are basic, clean and comfortable. The caretaker is extremely friendly and has excellent suggestions of things to do in the area. For example, she recommended a guided hike across the lava flows that was spectacular, and pointed us to a number of good hikes in the national […] park. She also gave us helpful information about local restaurants. The lodge is ideally located for exploring Volcanos National Park. We liked the lodge, and will stay there again of we decide to stay up in Volcano. If you are looking for a more touristy, resort-style hotel, this is not the place for you. It is more like a pensione or European guest house than a hotel. We enjoyed it and would recommend it to others. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Tired Volcano Village Inn"
The hotel is tired. But let me start with the positive. There are large public spaces, a hot tub, hot water and my mattress was fairly comfortable. The hotel is located in a fairly remote area, so the neighborhood is quiet, while still accessible to Volcano Village and close to the Volcanoes National Park. The caretaker is close by and quickly responses […] to calls. On the not-so-positive side, furnishings and fixtures are dated. On my stay, window blinds would not close, leaving me with a room fully visible to incoming guests approaching the home from the driveway. Coffee maker did not work on the second day of my stay and caretaker was out of town, having left no number to call if there were problems (like a broken coffee-maker, which is an issue as there is no place in town for coffee at 6 a.m.). Breakfast was store-bought bagels or canned biscuits. And the hot tub relied on solar power for heat, so on the drizzly days often encountered in Volcano Village, doesn't really work. Not at all the standard I would expect for the rate charged. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This location was great for a weekend get-away. Our host, Mahi was gracious and shared lots of info that helped us enjoy the volcano area to the fullest. She also made sure we had fresh papayas and baked goods every morning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great place to stay when visiting Volcanos NP"
Nice home converted into a B&B / hotel. Located in wonderful mountain setting near Volcanos NP so it is very easy to visit the park for night viewing of lava. Great breakfast with local fruit and fresh baked biscuits. A little rustic but very comfortable. House is kept cool at night so the electric blankets were welcome.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A gem in volcano country"
We found this to be a very comfortable home and enjoyed our two nights there. It's location is perhaps more rural than some would like, but we found it to our liking. "great hotel to visit thd near by attractions."
The lodge is great. Much better then the pictures online. the location is pefect if you want to visit the volcano park, mount loa and the black beach. Note that our gps had the street but not the number. If you drive after dark then drive slowly because it is in the middle of a forest and easy to miss. The rooms are very comfortable. Note that food […] wise there are a few restaurants in the village, 5 , min drive but at 21:00 everything is closrd. Ther is a small store where you get the basics but fruit, vegtebals and so is a problem. Get what you need in hilo before you come. The landlord us nice and helpful with directions and so on. "Different than the pictures"
When we arrived inside the B&B for our 2-day stay, there were multiple vases--all with dead flowers in them. All the house plants were droopy. It wasn't very appealing. The general appearance was run down.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Cozy but not completely comfortable"
While the B&B operator, Mahi, was very nice and helpful, the house itself was fairly old and musty from the wet climate. The staff - Nancy and Mahi - were wonderful, helpful people. Very informative about what to see and how to get there. Breakfast was nice continental with scrabbled eggs. I would not recommend this location as the B&B. We stayed several nights. One morning we were asked to clean up after ourselves, another morning we were told we could make breakfast ourselves. "Isolated and quiet."
This is a large seven bedroom lodge, and we had it all to ourselves. No one else was there. It rained all the time and was fairly cold. Hot tub was only tepid so we didn't make use of it. The little wood stove did not work so we heated the place with the kitchen oven and a couple of little portable heaters. This is supposed to be a bed and breakfast; […] however, the breakfast part was mostly missing. The hostess left us alone and we read books most of the time when we were there. She only fixed breakfast for us one of the three mornings although there was plenty of food in the refrigerator that we made use of. It is located about 3 miles outside of Volcano so it's very isolated and quiet, which was OK for us since we were wanting a quiet get-away. It's fairly close to Kiluea crater and the National Park. "Quiet, comfortable and convenient"
Although the drive to the accommodation seemed to be long, the lush surroundings, comfortable house, pleasant and helpful manager and access to many of the natural attractions of the island made it very enjoyable. "Excellent B&B place near the Volcano park"

"Damp and Cold......"
We stayed at the Halana Lodge for 2 nights when we were travelling around the the Big Island.... There is not much to book in Volcano Village, the Lodge is set very far back in the woods of Volcano Villaage and it is almost like you are travelling on a deserted road. The inn keeper herself was very knowledgable and helpful but the lodge it self was […] cold and damp and quite uncomfortable, especially after a long day exploring the Volcano national park and all you'd like to do is come back to a warm and cozy lodge, this was not the place for that. We had the Blue Hawiian room with private shower and toilet. There was an issue with the hot water, especially if everyone had a shower in the am .... the first morning we literally had no hot water for a shower. The continental brekafast was ok... nothing special. If you were travelling in the summer time in Hawaii and were going to Volcano Village I would say that the Halana Lodge would be a better choice, but as we were there in March and it was cold this would not be a suitable location for this time of year (March 2013) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great B and B in Volcano"
We spent 3 great nights at the Halana Lodge, and loved every minute there. "Meget fin service når man først er kommet indenfor"
Dejligt sted og utrolig sø og behagelig betjening. Et væsentligt minus er dog at man risikere at møde op til en låst dør og en seddel på døren om at ringe til et givet nummer. "Difficile d'y arriver mais très bon accueil"
Ce "bed & breakfast" est difficile d'accès si on arrive après le coucher du soleil et qu'on ne connait pas le trajet. Mais l'accueil de nôtre hôte était 4 étoiles.
