"One of the very best!"

We had a beautiful room with an awesome view of the ocean. We could also see the llamas from our window and had such fun watching their antics. Breakfast was exceptional and we really appreciated how they catered to my husbands dietary restrictions.

"Wonderful Property"

This is a beautiful property set in the woods just across from the ocean. The gardens were well kept as were the llamas and chickens. We arrived just in time to enjoy wine hour and were served a nice wine and with a small bit of soup and fresh bread. The hosts were able to get us a late seating dinner at a wonderful nearby restaurant. The room was large and comfortable with separate sitting room and breakfast the next morning was delivered promptly at 9am and was very nice (especially the egg dish made from fresh eggs). The best part though were the little touches...brownies with a hand written note waiting for us in our room, an assigned parking space and a small bag of chicken feed so that we could feed the chickens. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would like to go back for a longer stay next time.

"Perfect couples getaway"

The Glendeven Inn was the most idyllic place we've ever stayed. Everything about it exudes calm, beauty, and relaxation. We enjoyed the gorgeous garden and ocean views from the Pinewood suite. We are not hikers, but we did enjoy our walks through the gardens and around the llama and chicken pens. We took some time to enjoy birdwatching from the community room while we also enjoyed homemade cookies and warm coffee during a game of checkers. The breakfasts, which were delivered to our suite in a wicker basket, were delicious and creative. Fresh eggs, fruit, muffins , handsqueezed orange juice, and coffee started off each day. Many thanks to the Glendeven staff who made our 30th anniversary trip so special. Truly, the only negative about Glendeven is that we had to leave.

"perfect intro to Mendocino County"

we really enjoyed our stay at Glevdeven Etta's Suite had a nice view down the coast of the sea breaking over big rocks. The real fireplace was awesome as, let's fact it, flipping a switch for a gas fire is just silly. Breakfast has fine and listen up, the well water is very nice. Being from Memphis and having some of the finest municipal water in the nation, we really appreciate nice water. The grounds of the Inn are nice, llamas are a bit weird but still fun and the Stellar Jays are a beautiful version of our blue jays back home. Some check out stress occurs as the policy for prompt check out seems almost draconian but I guess it's become necessary with some folks. Anyway, it's a lovely property and we recommend it.

"Calm and quaint"

Looking around Mendocino we felt that the Glendeven Inn would be most aligned with our needs.... calm, charming, small. It is all those things, and for couples looking to get out of either B&B's or large resorts this is your spot. We hiked from the property twice. We attended the nightly wine hours. We looked at chickens and llamas and the gardens. We ate on our lovely porch and watched birds eat from the freshly filled feeders. We went into the large and inviting "living room" each night for cookies, french press coffees and even a game in front of the wood burning fireplace. We used all of the amenities offered -- and there were many. The main building we were in houses most of the Inn's working bits and unfortunately our suite was in the middle of them.... we had the kitchen and staff room on one side of our unit and the laundry underneath. The Eastlin suite had many advantages - a private entrance, a nice king bed, a porch with an ocean view and a large sunny sitting room. The bathroom was tiny and not particularly updated, but was certainly workable. Many longtime guests love this suite and request it each time, but I would have appreciated knowing about the noise ahead of time and will select another room if we visit again. If you are bothered by talking and kitchen noises from 6:45 a.m. until about 11:00 a.m then I would keep this in mind. Staff was cordial. Guests were friendly. Breakfasts were tasty, imaginative and presented with care. Appetizers in the evening were interesting as well. It just seemed as if everyone (even the llamas!) was trying to give you lots of room -- sometimes you want that, and we appreciated it. Our one request - for breakfast to be served at 8:45 instead of 9:00 to accommodate a hike the hotel had arranged for us - was denied, which really surprised us to no end (fruit was offered). We were living literally 4 inches from the kitchen and there were only 2 other couples at the inn... there was no hesitation, just no. Overall it was a nice place and I will tell our friends to consider it if they drive through. It was cool while we were there, and I imagine it would be cozy during the winter....

"Charming spot in Mendocino"

My wife and I have visited Glendeven twice now, and each experience was wonderful, with the wood burning fire place, Pacific ocean, trails to hike the headlands, crisp cool beach breezes, and wonderful home made breakfasts delivered to your door in a picnic basket making us feel slightly more than at home. The beautifully kept property and grounds welcome you, from the Husch Chenin Blanc at check in to the moment you leave, the place is magical. It's hard to encapsulate why the Glendeven is so special, but easy to say that you should look no further if you're planning to visit the area. This place rocks.

"The perfect getaway!"

We live about an hour north of Mendocino and have visited the area many times. This was our first time staying at the Glendeven Inn and it was over the top! We absolutely loved everything about this place. From the inviting staff to the amazing grounds and beautiful clean comfortable room. Everything was perfect. We ate our farm fresh delectable breakfast outside while enjoying the view of the ocean and the adorable llamas. I highly suggest you enjoy all that they offer at the Glendeven Inn.

"Charming place for a quick getaway from the Bay Area"
06/11/15 VagabondViews San Francisco, California
Artsy place with the llamas and the quiet. Has lovely views. Breakfast was good, have had better in other BnB's though. The location, easy access to the bluffs and the rustic charm of this place make it a brilliant spot in Mendocino. Make sure you contact the property if you are arriving late for instructions on where to find keys etc because it is not obvious. DO take the trail right across the property. It has beautiful views. Pets are not allowed so that would be something to keep in mind as well if you are traveling with your furry friends . Very Californian as far as environment friendly bio-sustenance is concerned. A li'l slice of peace away from the chaos of the valley!

"Charming, quaint, and an excellent choice, just a bit questionable on the "luxury" descriptor"
06/10/15 xps900 Chicago, Illinois
I had a mostly great stay at the Glendeven Inn and I would likely return and recommend it to others. The location is excellent and there is a beautiful view of the ocean just down the road which can be seen directly from the lobby and the rooms which face out towards the Pacific. The property is very peaceful and feels intimate and private; it's as if you're a guest in someone's home. The Llamas are beautiful and you are free to go into their grazing area, but they won't let you approach them. They're gentle, shy, and quirky animals. John, the innkeeper, was very helpful in providing suggestions for things to do in the area, and gave me some great tips for exploring the incredibly beautiful areas surrounding Mendocino. This was a huge added value and made for a great experience. The town nearby is very quaint/charming and extremely sleepy -- restaurants close early (9pm) so beware if you're a late diner. The Inn staff were pleasant and went out of their way to help, though if you don't speak Spanish communication might be challenging with some. While the hotel is charming, the level of service was a bit lacking for a property that uses the word "luxury" in its title/description. Example: I arrived late on my check-in day. No one informed me that the office closes at 7:00pm. I didn't receive any calls or e-mails beforehand and simply showed up at 7:25pm to find an envelope with my name on it in the mailbox outside of the office containing a key and a note. Luckily this was obvious and easy, but still a bit surprising and not the warmest of welcomes. My room (Garden) was comfortable; the bed and bedding were superb and provided excellent sleep. The bathroom is a bit outdated and small, particularly the sink. The shower was clogged up a bit as well, which can be easily fixed; what was more upsetting was the quality of the shower head, which was poor and kept coming loose from the wall. Not a big deal, but should be addressed. The garden room doesn't really look out onto a garden so much as the parking lot. The surrounding trails are beautiful for walks, hikes, and for enjoying nature. This is the real attraction of coming up here, so any minor issues with the hotel certainly didn't take away from the experience. I just feel that given the price point, those types of issues shouldn't exist. One morning, the WiFi wasn't working properly, and there was no one around to address it -- the kitchen staff were preparing breakfast, and the office didn't open until later in the morning. Having lots of experience with WiFi issues and network equipment, I knew that the most likely fix was a simple power cycle of the modem; luckily it was directly outside of the room and I was able to do this. I don't think other guests would be as hands-on, and you'd sort of be left without WiFi until someone could fix it -- which is annoying given there is no cell service whatsoever in the hotel if you want to check e-mails in the morning. Breakfast was served promptly in the morning and was pretty good. I stayed for two nights, and could tell the breakfast was individually prepared every day (and varied from day to day). Overall, a pleasant stay; luxury travelers should keep expectations in check and try to understand that the beauty of Mendocino is the fact that it's quiet, beautiful, disconnected, and ultimately very relaxing -- don't expect to be pampered, and just go with the flow.

"Amazing customer service. Pay attention to details!"

I can't say enough good things about our stay at Glendeven. We stayed in the East Farmington. It was worth every penny. Fireplace in room that they had prepared for you every day. Well water so that you are never thirsty and can drink right from the sink. Brownies and a hand written note on our arrival. Reserved parking with our name on it. They just think of EVERYTHING. The property is BEAUTIFUL and very romantic. Everything was extremely clean. Our breakfasts delivered each morning were delicious and 3 courses (included in the cost of your stay) along with an evening wine/appetizer hour where they were very generous on the pours... we were able to buy some wine on property. Everyone was very friendly, we will definitely be back!! Thank you Glendeven! Best place to stay in Mendocino. My only wish was that they had food options on site... because our breakfasts were awesome.
