One night is NOT enough here. Traveling up the coast this was one of our overnight stops and next time it will definitely be for longer. Plush bed, beautiful room, breakfast delivered to your door so you can eat in front of your own fireplace . . . I just may move in for good!! Just south of Mendocino so you have great restaurants to choose from too.

This was our first trip to Mendocino in at least 15 years. We have stayed at Glendeven in the past and wanted to try it again. I believe there have been a couple of owners in the interim. We stayed in the Eastlin Suite (as before) and found it little changed - updated for sure but very familiar. The bathroom could use a major update. It is functional but given the spaciousness of the bedroom and sitting room I wish they could find a way to carve out a bit more space for a luxury bathroom that would match the rest of the suite. I have read comments regarding the eggs for breakfast and it is true that you should ask for "no runny eggs" if you like the white cooked all the way through. Other than that, a very pleasant 4 day retreat.
"Lovely farmstead B&B"

My husband and I had been camping at Russian Gulch State Park earlier in the week, and we spent a final night in the Briar Rose suite. My only wish is that I'd booked for more than one night. The grounds are quiet and relaxing -- you can explore the edible garden, the chicken coops, the llama pasture, and also spend time in the Farmhouse for tea/coffee, snacks/cookies, and play games. When I booked, I was debating between the Bay Loft and Briar Rose, and while I think I'd have been happy with either, I loved the Briar Rose suite, especially the balcony that overlooks the property and llama fields. The bed was comfy and heavenly -- we had a wonderful night's sleep after snoozing in a tent all week -- and we loved relaxing in front of the fireplace, lounging in our plush robes. Breakfast was served promptly at 9 am, all in a basket. Complimentary wine hour in the Wine Bar(n), serving local Anderson Valley wines.
"B&B, no bed, no coffee, no phone"

The best thing about Glendeven was its location. Had a nice trail leading down to the shoreline where north coast scenic beauty really came to life. However, for a B&B, I'd expect *much* more for the very high price. The room was nice (fireplace, couch, great view), but the bed was terrible - seemed like it should have been replaced 10 years ago. I go on vacation to get a better night sleep than I can at home. The rooms come with breakfast served promptly at 9:00. However, the only way to get coffee earlier than that was for me to leave the building I was in, walk 40 yards to another building, and then make it myself. I can't remember the last time I stayed at a place that didn't have an in-room coffee option of some kind. Lastly, there are no phones in the rooms. I saw one phone in the Cobbler's Walk (sister inn across the 'street' which is actually Hwy CA-1) that said it could be used to call anywhere in the US. But there was no cell phone coverage for any of our group (10 rooms) and with no phone in the room, there was no way to call anyone for questions or help. Heaven help you if there is an emergency - stomp on the floor...maybe someone will hear you. Besides being an annoyance, I found this on the verge of dangerously unsafe. I won't go back.

Positives: Good breakfast (but heavy on the wheat and dairy), great walking trails and trail to the beach, llamas, chickens and bees. Great bed and sheets. Not so greats: We stayed in the Garden Room which was more like Freeway and Parking Lot Room. Very loud and at least once a night headlights shown right into the bedroom and the bed. Staff - especially the owner - are not flexible or responsive to guests needs. We were greeted at the front desk not with "Welcome to Mendocino" or some other pleasantry, but "You owe XX, when do you want to pay it?" We had several interactions before and after our stay that were a lot of time and effort on our part and ultimately not satisfying.
"Beautiful setting--lots of privacy!!"

If you are in search of a beautiful B & B in a great location then Glendeven Inn will hit the mark. The room we stayed in (The Carriage House) was big, beautiful and very private!! The grounds are really lovely and well maintained..and it truly is nice to wander out into the llama pasture!! Upon arrival, the lovely woman at the wine bar poured the two of us very needed glasses of wine! That certainly set a positive tone for our stay. There were a few things that occurred that make it a bit difficult to give this place a 5 star rating. When we booked the room (via their website), we filled in the "Special Requests" section, asking that, due to allergies, the feather mattress pad be removed prior to making the bed for us. This was not done--and it was not at all difficult for us to remove it---but, in my opinion, if you're going to ask for special requests..then it is best to act on those--otherwise it's better to just not ask. The second day there, upon returing to our room in the late afternoon, we were suprised to see that the housekeeper had left cleaning rags on the floor. She also removed the used coffee cups (that were with the coffee maker) and did not replace them..and it looked like she had not even entered the bathroom. It kind of seemed that she had been interrupted while cleaning our room, and then forgot to return to finish up. Again..not a big deal..and I'm sure if we mentioned this to the staff it would have been addressed--but...not worth taking the time to do so--in my view, it's not our job on vacation to give feedback on staff. The final, minor..picky thing--is that this room is advertised as having beverages stocked in the fridge. We were pretty surprised that the "beverages" stocked were 6 cans of soda. Kind of was expecting something nicer--ice tea, lemonade, juice---but soda? Not our thing! But..ending on a high note--the most important thing for us was to find a serene, clean, lovely place to get away from our day to day crazy lives--and, the Glendeven was absolutely spot on!!

We were married at Glendeven twenty years ago and it was a wonderful B and B back then. It has only gotten better. The gardens are beautiful, the room has been upgraded, and the staff is friendly and helpful. What more can you ask for!!!
"Peaceful Retreat in Mendocino"

We spent one night at the Glendeven Inn where attention to detail was impeccable. Our room, the East Farmington, had a fireplace and sitting area, faced the garden and you could see a little of the ocean from one window. Clean, beautiful and so peaceful. I was looking forward to seeing the llamas but did not see them. We did feed the chickens with the chicken feed provided. Hot breakfast included and delivered to our room at 9 am. Coffee, fresh-squeezed orange juice, muffin with honey and a small chili quiche, absolutely delicious. They also have a kitchenette in the building for the use of the rooms. Need to reserve very early. Ours was a month ahead and the East Farmington was all they had left. They have a wonderful restaurant but were booked and had to have dinner elsewhere.

We stayed in the Bay View Suite at Glendeven during the Fourth of July holiday. It was cool in the Mendocino area so the fireplace in the suite was perfect and we lit a fire every evening. Each morning from one of the bedroom windows I looked to the Pacific and out over the grounds, waiting for the llamas to be let out of their pen. And at 9A a knock on the door with two breakfast trays. Each day something different and wonderful. We never used the deck because it was too cool. The Inn is immaculate and there's a free wine tasting each evening for the guests. It's well located and easy to go either to Mendocino or down the coast and to Route 128 and the wineries. We enjoyed our stay very much!
"This was a gem."
We stayed here for three nights in July with another couple. The inn had come highly recommended to us, and we weren't disappointed. We had the Bay View suite in the main building. We indeed had a great view of the water from our balcony. (Furniture on the balcony was rather ramshackle, and we moved it with great care.) Our suite was spacious with a wood burning fireplace in the sitting area. There was plenty of firewood and a new fire was set by housekeeping each day. The area is cool enough to warrant a fire, even in July. Breakfast was great, with an egg dish (from the inn's chickens), a baked item like a scone, and a cooked fruit item, like a baked pear. Also freshly squeezed orange juice. There also is a wine hour in the late afternoon with a hot appetizer and several kinds of cookies are always available. We did use the little bag of chicken feed to feed the chickens and we enjoyed wandering in the vegetable garden. We did not take advantage of other amenities, like having a fire in the common area of our building and playing something at the game table, but that's because the weather was good. We did the two shorter hikes that leave from the inn's property, and they were lovely. The innkeepers pay a lot of attention to details which is generally an upside. On the other hand, when they say they are available only certain hours, they mean it. Don't think about trying to check in at 3:59, because check in is at 4. The one thing we regretted was not being able to walk to Little River because Rte. 1 is really narrow and there was little shoulder for safe walking. But that's a small price to pay for being in what is otherwise a great location. And speaking of price, we thought this was a fair price for what we got.
