Two lamps weren't working, including a desk lamp -- awkward when I wanted to do a bit of work there. On the other hand the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, they really provided great service.

"Great Location & cheap hotel"
I stayed at the hotel because I didn't want to pay a lot of money and I was very pleased by the location, the friendly welcome, the cleanliness and the spacious room. Toilet & shower are outside of the room, but there is a sink in the room, so it's perfect! I highly recommend it! You will enjoy the lovely neighbourhood of the french district Le Plateau […] with great restaurants & lot of shops around. Read more

"Hotel Stay Mont Royal in Montreal"
Very basic accommodations in French area. Convenient location on the Plateau, lots of restaurants, boutiques, book stores, etc. Near the mountain, McGill University, Parc Lafontaine. Noisy all night - hotel is right next to Metro Station. Demanded $50 refundable deposit, even with room paid in full. Cheap, convenient, but would not stay again because […] of noise. Read more
"Cheap and Cheerful - Clean and Cute"
Exactly where we wanted to be in Montreal on the plateau, so perfect for us, and the price is right. It's not the Fairmont - but it's cute, clean and cheap and works for showering and sleeping.
"Good price, kind service!"
If you stay this hotel, you also feel good!
"A great deal"
My girlfriend and I had a very pleasant stay here. No private bathrooms but each room has a sink. The breakfast is good and the rooms are very modern and clean. For the price it is more than worth it. Because it is small, there is often no one at the desk. I highly recommend phoning an hour before you arrive to tell them what time you would like them […] there to welcome you and let you in. The owners are Peruvian so there french and english is sub-par. Read more

"Hotel in Montreal"
If you are with yourself it's an option to go and stay there but I do not suggest it for families. Rooms are small, bathrooms are shared. The location is good, it's in front of a metro station and has access to a lot of restaurants. Personals are friendly.
"Hotel Stay Montreal - convenient, clean but beware"
the hotel is difficult to gain access to - as per an earlier reviewer - entrance door is locked and despite ringing the bell numerous times, no one opened it - was just lucky that some happened to leave. Also you are required to pay a security/incidentals deposit and sign a contract written only in French - the man at the desk was very pleasant and […] helpful but only spoke a smattering of both French and English. Room was clean and pleasant - fairly quiet too and a good location. Breakfast was supposed to be at 8.30am but was all put out before 7.45 with a good selection of coffee, juice, pastries, fruit and yoghurt. My only problem was that there was not a staff member to be seen, nor a bell to get their attention when I had to leave at 8am and therefore was not able to get my deposit back (as I had a flight to catch) I await their response to my email. Good value for the price (as long as I get the deposit back!!) Read more

"HOtel Stay"
As described on the package - basic, clean, comfortable. Bed was very good. Showers and shared washrooms clean. Owners very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting cheap and cheerful accommodation.

"My Stay at Hotel Stay Mont Montreal"
The location was wonderful. Front desk was helpful. room was OK nothing special but it does have a fridge which is good. Only disadvantage was the shared washroom at hallway and no control on the heating system which becomes pretty warm at night making you sweat.
"Good !!"
It is a good hotel but it is a bit annyiong that the staff doesnt speak any english at all, but spanish!! (they are still very friendly trying to help you!!). But it is just over a street from the subway and it is clean. Small showers that you have to share and the breakfast is'nt something you would pay for. The price is totally right for the HOSTEL […] you get!! I would totally recommend it for someone with a small budget!! It is clean, the staff is helpfull and it is a good location!! Read more

"Hotel Stay at Mont Royal"
It's not exactly downtown but Mont Royal also has its own shopping and sight seeing stuff. You could go to the mountain and have a good view of the whole city; or walk down Rue Mont Royal or Rue St Denis for some shopping. Across from the hotel is the metro station, so you could go anywhere you want to and still get back to the hotel conveniently. The […] rooms are small and the washrooms are not located in the rooms, but they keep everything clean all the time so I'm not complaining. You get what you pay for. Definitely recommend this place if you're on a budget like we were. Read more
"This is a HOSTEL, not a hotel."
This is a small hostel owned by a son and mother, who do the cleaning themselves. It's quaint, quiet, and has only 12 or so rooms across two floors. The rooms are around 10'x10', and are furnished with a full sized bed, a side table, an armoir, a fairly large mini-fridge, a desk, chair, mini 17" or so HD tv with ~40 channels, a small sink, towel rack, […] and coat hooks. There's a small common area, about 8'x8' which contains two small round tables that each seat two people. There's a coffee machine, a public computer which is totally free (but slow), and a small counter and shelf where the free morning breakfast is placed. The breakfast consists of Costco croissants, peanut butter, jelly, bananas, apples, chocolate rugelach, various mini yogurts, and occasional cheap chocolate chip cookies. For drinks, there are mini fruit punch or grape juice boxes and coffee/espresso from the coffee machine with milk and sugar available. The place was pretty clean with no sign of bed bugs. The bathrooms are shared on each floor, with small toilet rooms and separate small standing shower rooms. The toilets have a sanitizer available so you can wipe the seat, which is nice. The showers were probably the worst part about the hostel. Tiny, cramped, and usually clogging up with hair, the hot water runs out in about 3-4 minutes if you even get any hot water at all. There is a shampoo/soap container available for everyone's use. In my friend's room, the main overhead light was broken/burnt out and they didn't fix it for our 4 night stay. The best thing about Hotel Stay Mont Royal is definitely the location. It is literally right outside the train station 'Mont Royal' making commuting anywhere easy. The surrounding area is also great for shopping, there's a drugstore across the street, and the entire street of Mont Royal has a bunch of shops. There's a huge supermarket about 10 minutes walk down, the famous Fairmount Bagels is about 15 minutes away, the super-famous smoked meat place Schwart Read more
"Perfect for me..."
My first visit to Montreal, by myself and this place was wonderful. The rooms are tastefully done and comfortable, the staff is great, and the location is prime- I could see the mont royal station from my window, and could get anywhere in the city from there. The only downside: the wireless wouldn't work for me, and the bathrooms(which are shared) were […] a little worn. But for that price? It's definately not a bad stay. Read more
"Hostel like but in great location"
This is more like a hostel than a hotel, small but very clean rooms. The room had its on sink but toilet and shower were shared with the other rooms. Since it is only a small hotel, there was never an issue with waiting for a bathroom and cleanliness. Very quiet even if it was right in the center of the Mont Royal neighborhood. Great location right […] next to the subway and lots of restaurants, bars, shops in the neighborhood. Read more
"Hotel Stay Mont Royal - hostel in hispter hood"
This is a great alternative to the over-priced hotels in the city. It's more like a European hostel than a hotel, with a bathroom down the hall. But it was always open whenever I wanted to use the bathroom or shower. The neighborhood is fantastic, with lots of great places to eat. The Mont Royal metro stop is right across the street so you can get anywhere […] you need to be. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Read more
"The perfect hotel for budget travelers"
I LOVED this hotel, it was the perfect place for my vacation to Montreal. Super convenient location near the subway and in a fantastic neighborhood, within walking distance of all kinds of great cafes, shops, restaurants and bars. The hotel has a lot of character and, although the rooms are modest, the place provided everything I needed. Excellent value […] for the quality of accommodations and location. I will definitely stay there again if I ever have the pleasure of visiting Montreal in the future. Read more
"Hotel Stay Mont Royal - great Stay"
It is a great little Hotel. Shared bathrooms in the hall will be a turn off for some, but that small inconvenience was more than made up for by the great staff, perfect location, and the low price. Rooms are small but comfortable and the neighborhood is great. Subway stop is literally across the street and a 24 hour cafe is just downstairs.

"Excellent location, great value for money"
Hotel is located right next to subway station. Room was quiet except for a bit noisy A/C. Breakfast was not very diverse but on the other hand there is a cafe with excellent food right next to the hotel. Only minor disadvantage was shared bathroom/toilet but if you are okay with using those then this Hotel is your choice.
"Great find"
Advantages: -Superb location for shopping and eating -Next to a metro station -Nice staff -Low price -Breakfast -Mini fridge in room Disadvantages: -Shared bathroom (own sink in room though) - but shower and toilet are separated -Small room If you don't care how big your room is or sharing the bathroom with other guests, this is a great place to stay. "Hotel Stay Mont Royal"
My daughter and I found ourselves needing to make a week long trip to Montreal for a sudden appointment. We found the Hotel Stay on Hotels.com and decided to book there based on price and location. When we first entered the hotel and up the 2 steep flights of stairs, we didn't really know what we got ourselves into. Then we were given our room keys […] and the room was smaller than what we were expecting. This is the only thing that could be contrived as the least bit negative. By the end of our stay, our quaint quarters really felt like home. The family owned staff, despite a less than prolific understanding of English, were fantastic! We were treated very well and this was the best staff of any hotel that I had ever stayed at. The location is top notched being located at a corner that faces a major Metro station with very easy access to all parts of the city. There are several fantastic eateries within a quick walk from Hotel Stay. Our favorite was Mont Royal Hot Dog that has a huge menu including serving up a delicious smoked meat pizza. A drug store, open air produce market and most anything you could possibly want, is right there. We are planning on a more relaxed return to Montreal next summer and we will be staying once again at Hotel Stay. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to experience the flavor of Montreal. "Convenient and affordable"
Pros: location, price, accessibility, free breakfast, sink in the room. Cons: communal shower and toilet, all rooms exterior so if you're a light sleeper , this hotel not for you. Steep stairs to the reception
"Hotel Stay Mont Royal - Great Location"
Hotel Stay Mont Royal is great for travelers on a budget. It is situated in a good area and extremely close to the Metro. Within walking distance is Rue Denis with great shopping and eating as well as Mont Royal. The room was clean but very basic. There are shared bathrooms which are quite small and a basin in the room for washing hands, brushing teeth […] etc. This hotel is exactly what you pay for. A clean place to sleep and store luggage in a area with plenty to do within walking distance. Read more

"Hotel Stay--Cute hotel in a fantastic area!!!"
With the low price of this hotel, it is a great deal! The workers at the hotel are more than willing to help you out. The rooms were cute and cozy, decorated with classic french style. The only downside was the shower and bathroom were outside the room, but no worries because there was never a line an definitely not a far walk from the bedroom. I couldn't […] get over the location. From little boutiques, tapas bars, a cupcake shop as well as other cute cafes, this was the perfect location (which wasn't too touristy either. Absolutely no souvenir or tourist shops on Mont Royal Avenue, which was refreshing to see). It was nice to wake up in the morning, grab a croissant, fruit, and juice box and head out for a busy day in the city. I felt completely safe. As a resident at Hotel Stay, I was given a key for my room, as well as one to enter the hotel, very secure! It was also nice to have a 24 hour cafe under the hotel--you never no when you'll need a caffeine boost!! Overall, great hotel for someone who is just looking for the basics in a friendly and safe hotel. Definitely recommend (especially for those on a tight budget, like me and my friend, college students, who took this road trip to Montreal). Read more
"Hotel Stay Mont Royal - Lively Neighborhood"
The hotel is really a hostel. The overall stay was really great - the room was small, but comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated. The only two complaints are that when you first enter the place, there is a long staircase to the "lobby," so if you have a big bag, it may be difficult to get it up. Also, the shower and toilet rooms are absolutely tiny. […] But they were clean and you never had to wait for it. Breakfast was included - fruit, brownie bites, yogurt, tea, coffee, croissants, cinnamon rolls, etc. You should know a little French because the person working at the desk did not speak any English. The location was really great. Mont Royal is a very lively street with many cafes, shops, and lots of people around. The hotel was directly across from the Metro, which was really convenient. And there was an information booth right outside of the Metro if you needed information. Very conveniently located and nice if you don't mind a simple, but comfortable stay. Read more
"2 nights in Montreal"
The good: great location, subway stop next door so you can get anywhere in towwn in minutes; closest hotel to climbing Mont-Royal; and dozens of reasonable restaurants within two blocks. The bad: part time staff (I had to pound on the door for 10 minutes to get in) and the place is poorly maintained, the shower was broken for my entire stay as was the […] toilet for my last day. looks grungy. "Good location, basic hotel"
This is a good hotel if one doesn't expect more than a place to sleep. The room was basic but adequate. The shared bathroom was a bit inconvenient. The continental breakfast was mediocre but it would have been shame not to have tried some of Montreal's great restaurants for breakfast anyway. In fact, there ws a wonderful crepe place right across the […] street. The hotel is very convenently located next to the Mont-Royal metro station. The neighborhood (The Plateau/Parc LaFontaine) is a funky location with nice shops, restaurants and bars. This is a good hotel for single travelers or couples without many expectations or backpackers who want more than a hostel. Read more
"An excellent, European-style stay"
This hotel is wonderful for the independent traveler. Rooms have sinks but share bathrooms - not a problem, never had to wait. The proprietors are attentive and helpful. Very clean rooms. Nice continental breakfast available. Best thing is the location - just steps from the Mont Royal metro stop.
"Good location but not the best deal"
The owners do not speak much english so it was hard to communicate. They were very nice and accommodating but this hotel said it has free wifi and yet we could NOT get connected at all to it. Rooms were very clean you do have to share a bathroom with all other guests as well as a shower. They were very clean and to be honest all was okay other than […] the fact that it was SO HOT in our room we could not sleep at all. There is a very small fan and the windows do not open hardly at all. The location is good for walking around but noisy at night on the weekends but you are right next to the metro and the parking lot we were able to part in was cheap and close enough that it was not an issue. "Superb budget hotel - fantastic value for basics"
I've tried various budget hotels in Montreal, and this is by far the best overall. The location is great - metro next door, bus to airport two metro stops away, great night and day life all around you. Some other reviewers have suggested that the staff are not helpful, or have poor language skills. I found the staff really good - positive and helpful. […] Their English and French may be limited, but more than adequate for the sort of conversation you want! This is not the sort of hotel where there is continual and attentive service - but for me this was not a problem at all. My room was carefully serviced each day. The toilets and showers were cleaned regularly and efficiently. I didn't want any more service. The room was furnished throughout with IKEA units. These were in pretty good repair. Cable TV was available in the room. The washbasin had ample hot and cold water. There are no en-suite rooms - but seriously, what do you expect at this price? Wifi internet (fast and reliable) is available at no charge. You can also log on to the unsecured network from the café downstairs if you want. A free self-service breakfast is available each morning. In theory, this is only from 0800 to 1000. In practice, I found the food was put out by 0715 and the drinks machine switched to free dispense at the same time. Breakfast is basic - but if good quality coffee or hot chocolate, along with croissants and a couple of other types of pastry, as well as yoghurt and apples/bananas, is enough for you you can eat what you want. I had enough each morning to last me through to the early evening, and I tended to take the food and drink back to my room and eat there while catching up on email etc. I has a noisy neighbour one evening, and the street noise is inevitably present. I did have a good sleep on each of the four nights I stayed. Overall, I think the Hotel Stay Mont Royal offered outstanding value. The accommodation offered everything that was promised, and did so in a no fuss a Read more

"great neighborhood, like 5 steps tp the metro"
this is a charming place. if you don't mind the shared bathroom part, it's a WONDERFUL budget option!
"Hotel Stay Mont Royal"
Staff was really super friendly and nice to me. I would definately choose to stay at this hotel again for my next visit to Montreal.
"Good value for money but!!!"
The double bed was quite small, and sort of a cheap. Friendly staff, but the problem they did not speak English nor french, which was kind of weird as Montreal is a french speaking area. Overall it's near the main road for cafe and resto.
"Hotel Mont-Royal–Very close to the metro"
It's not really a so-called "hotel" but rather somewhat like an affordable B&B. Just across the street of the metro station (Station Mont-Royal). Superb service, staff is very friendly and helpful. Room is small but has a sink and cooler, which is nice. Wireless Internet is fast (same speed as what I have at home, 3 Mbps I guess) and stable. I didn't […] encounter any problem with the Internet. Shared bathroom is small, but shower gel and shampoo is provided. Room is clean and bright, though a little bit noisy at night (consider that you live on Rue Mont-Royal, and Rue St. Denis is just one block away). Consider the price, this hotel is super and I'd recommend to whoever has limited budget and expect high quality of accommodation. Read more
"Great location, friendly service, amazing price"
This hotel is not for people with disabilities--there is no elevator, and it's tough to get luggage up the steep stairs. But if you are active, and you don't mind sharing a bathroom, it is a terrific place to stay in Montreal. Right by the Metro, in the middle of a good neighborhood, over a funky, friendly coffee shop/cafe that's open 24 hours. The […] hotel is very clean and warm, the staff is friendly and efficient, and we got a good night's sleep both nights. Plus the wireless is free, and so is breakfast. What's not to love?
