Big room, huge bathroom - tub was separate from the shower and large! Very clean, great front desk, late check out was no problem at all (hour). One of the better hotels stayed in this year out of around at least 50.

It was a beautiful hotel despite being located next to steel mills..but our view of the marina was beautiful and the beach nearby was a plus.. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.. We would stay there again!

The AC was thermostat controled, but not cool enough and would not get cool. Went to sleep sweating and outside the covers. The staff are the biggest asset, very friendly, courtious and professional. The restaurants (sports bar and buffet) were excellent. Come early for Friday nite (Seafood) the line almost extends to the entrance. Have no comment about […] Steak house because our party of 5 was denied entry because one was 13 years old and we had to leave and settled for TGI Fridays about 30 mins away. Also, very disapointed with TGI Fridays, but that's another story. It seems the State has passed on this law that no one under 21 can be in any of the areas that allow smoking and that includes the Hotel. So, if you are on vacation with your family, this one should be avoided. Read more

It was very nice. I was very comfortable. It was a beautiful set up in the room I had the pleasure of staying in. The only complaint I have is it was like hide & seek to find a trash can in the bedroom/common area. Once I did locate it it was full of trash. Other than that it's a nice getaway.

My heart sank as we drove through the seemingly abandoned steel mill and refinery area. I thought to myself, what was I thinking? Then around a corner on a road that was barely holding together, rose the grand Ameristar out of the rubble. As we parked and walked in to the beautiful hotel, we were immediately greeted, checked in, given all important […] information about the hotel/casino, and shown to our room. Our room was immaculate and fabulous! Every detail from the comfortable bed with a wide assortment of pillows to the black out curtains made our stay even more enjoyable. About 45 minutes from downtown Chicago, it was well worth the little drive into the city to enjoy the delights of Ameristar for an extrememly reasonable price. The casino was an added bonus for fun after we returned from the city. The restaurants were amazing. The Heritage Buffet is as close to a true Vegas buffet as one can get this far north, and Bugatti's was phenominal. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a getaway as long as they don't mind a short trip to downtown Chicago. The hotel is 21 and over as well, so as a couple taking a short break from children...it was the icing on the cake not to have to put up with anyone else's either. This Hotel is not kid friendly and people should know this upfront! They almost did not let my 9 and 14 year old stay. There are no other hotels that I would stay at in Hammond. Most of our visit was in chicago for spring break. Other than that the help was friendly toward our children.

We have stayed in the Hammond area many times, but always out by the highway, 25 minutes away. We ventured to the Ameristar Hotel and Casino and what a great surprise. The ENTIRE stay was Outstanding. Very clean room, lobby and the staff was beyond friendly and helpful. We can not wait to come back and this will be on top of our stay list.

easily the worst hotel experience I have had, and as a frequent traveling, I've had a lot of experiences. phone rings at 2am, woman demands to know my name, i'm reluctant. says she is front desk, wants me to 'come down', Says someone else is in that room. i tell her she's nuts, its 2am! and she says "if you don't cooperate we are going to send up security". […] I say fine, hang up go back to bed. Door gets banged on, 6 people in hallway, 2 state police, 2 security guys, 2 women. I'm in my underwear! they are yelling "open up!!". I open, they come in searching room like' I'm some criminal. I don't even get time to put on pants. I say "this is embarrasing, an assault of my privacy", etc; they don't deter. After about 4 or 5 min I'm able to pull up my expedia reservation, show them my two room keys, my ID, my credit cards; they say "oh, this was just a mistake" and leave me standing there The state police promise me the "hotel will make this right", I am thinking "how? give me a free room next time? like, I'm going back into this nut house? This hotel was very nice. My first room 224 was a bit noisy there must have been an ventilating system behind the wall. They were accomodating and moved me to another room. The rooms are large and spacious. Plenty of work space and very clean. There is a casino attached to the hotel. This has a food court with several choices for dining.

This is a very nice hotel. Beware it is located in a very remote area. Regardless, I would definitely stay there again when in the area. The rooms are luxurious and the service provided was great. Secured access to you floor was an unexpected benefit.
