"Good for the price"
The lowest rate hotel around Toronto. Room is ok but clean enough. Staff is very friendly & helpful. I got sick and had to go to an emergency care. They printed out hospital address, asked me if I'm ok next morning & gave us 2 hour glacé on checkout time. My son left a charger - they found it and they will send back to us. I really appreciated all the […] help!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
First thing we noticed after entering the room, was mold around the bottom of the shower stall. The carpet looked very worn. The bathroom fan and ac/heater unit was caked with dust. The ice maker didn't work. Several of the tv channels had poor reception. Photos online of the breakfast area are not from this location. Its actually located on the bottom […] floor, below ground. Breakfast consisted of only two choices of cereal, (corn flakes or bran) milk, apple and orange juice, toast, miniture muffins, and waffles; which were pretty good. "Cheap but cheap"
Room undergoing a renovation but it's unfinished - grout on tiles made it look dirty, wall paper ripped down in an area to repair wall. Two towels for four guests - we requested and got more, but they were gone again after the room was cleaned. Thumping bass music from a neighboring room 24 hours a day - we did not call to complain as it lulled our […] kids to sleep. We were okay with it because it was convenient to our destination and VERY inexpensive. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"good price near the Go train"
The front desk staff was very nice and helpful. The room was small. The bathroom was very clean, but the coffee machine area was not cleaned on our second day. We had to go to the front desk just to get a cup for water. There were no towels at all in the room when we checked in. The halls were also in need of a good vacuuming. Parking was easy at the […] hotel and there is a very short drive to the Go train which also had great free parking. The Go train is a quick and easy ride right to Union Station in the heart of Toronto. Overall, it is an old hotel in great need of updating, but the price fit what we got. "Budget minded withot kids."
This place was nice, especially for the price, but if you think this place is going to be luxurious you are kidding yourself. I would saythis is a great hotel for budget travelers and young people who are looking for a place to put thei head. If my dad was on this trip, he would have ratedthis worse... His expectations are a little higherthan mine!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Well, that will teach me."
So we needed a place to stay for 2 nights in Toronto just myself and 2 friends. On a budget we decided we could stay on the outskirts of the city to save some money. It wasn't easy finding a cheap place, but you get what you pay for. This Hojo is far, and I mean very far from the city. It doesn't look it on the map but it was 45 min driving each time […] we wanted to go, granted part of that was traffic on the 401 but there is always traffic there so it counts. The outside of the hotel is downright awful, and the neighborhood isn't so hot. The rooms are all finished very nicely, clearly a recent upgrade. But this doesn't make up for the unnerving feeling overall. It looks like part of the hotel might host regulars, living there which wasn't comfortable. Needless to say I would stay away from this one, even though the staff was very nice, VERY nice, the whole thing felt very makeshift, and the area was not what I thought it would be. Oh well. "Cheap place, needs reapirs, but clean."
Very friendly and helpfull staff. This is a privately own hotel with agreement with HJ. The place is very old. Very very old carpetting. Far away from the town. Good and clean bed and linen. It was extremly cheapper than other hotels in Toronto and that was why we got it in first place. If you do not want to spend much money on your hotel and you are […] ok with an old clean place, you can stay here. The breakfast was good but it was in the lower level of the hotel (not a nice place). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not a good stay"
The hotel was in a run down area. I felt like my car might not be there in the morning. The room was not cleaned. There were no towels no soap or shampoo. The mirrors were dirty. The pillows had hair all over it. Was the closest hotel to Toronto zoo, next time I will drive the extra 10 minutes for a better night stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Spacious rooms, nice big flat screen TV,and room was very clean.Only drawback was they didn't had any drinking water in the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Spend a few bucks more...."
Rough neighbourhood. Suspicious masking tape on the door frame outside the room noticed around 8pm. Was probably to mark for maids next day, but very unsettling. Hard to believe it was a Howard Johnson. Although the grout in the shower had turned black the bathroom was clean. Beds were uncomfortable rocks. Very hot upstairs, had A/c on high the entire time just to make it livable. Run down. I wouldn't stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Kingston Howard johnson hotel in Scarborough"
The room was nice. I have been to this hotel 3 times before. The rooms are actually very nice compared to the money I spent for them. However not all the rooms have things like a fridge etc. So on my third visit I came to my room, noticing there is no where to store my icecream. Called front desk and asked them and they said they couldnt help me out […] and that not all the rooms come with everything. I was disappointed. But either than that, the visit was great. It was definately much nicer than some of the grungy other motels around the area. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Howard Johnson in Scarborough, Ontario"
This is a horrible hotel. The room smells. The exterier of the hotel is in very bad condition. It has the look and feel of a cheap motel that you find in a rural town. I wanted to stay for 1 week. But I ended up staying only for one night. Even though the room rates are reasonable, it is not worth the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is really nice hotel. Situated in a quite zone, I stayed 10 nights (broken in 2 visits) without having any major problems. The room are big enough for two, the bed is confortable, the bathroom is nice and clean with a big shower (but be advised: no bathtub). The breakfast is great for the price: make your own waffle, cereals, muffins, juices […] and coffee. The location is far away from Toronto Center, but if you have a car it's perfect considering hotel in the center are CRAZY expensive. The AC is very noisy thought, I really do hate it. And internet is fast but keeps falling down and you have to reactivate it. However I do recommend this hotel, the quality is high and the price so convenient. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel, good value"
Did not expect too much, but the place appeared to be better than I thought. The best part of this hotel is the people working there. They were very nice, friendly and professional. "Comfortable Budget Stay - a Toronto bargain"
"I've been rich and I've been poor, believe me, honey, rich is better" is a quote attributed to the late Russian born Vaudeville entertainer, Sophie Tucker who died in 1966. This also happens to be the last time they cleaned the carpet in my room. On the plus side, the staff was very friendly and welcoming - kind and decent young men who really do go […] out of their way to try hard to make for a relaxing stay. The bathroom, complete with hair dryer, always had ample hot water and was kept clean by the housekeeping staff. A washcloth was not always supplied with the two bath towels and hand towel in the room but this could have been corrected had I cared to have done so. Maids clean minimally. The bed was always carefully made but the sheets were not changed as often as was needed. The room has a very nice 32 inch flat screen cable television. Furniture in the room is what would be expected in a budget motel -- clean and in good overall condition. The motel is located in a safe area of Scarborough -- about half an hour by bus to the nearest subway station and another forty minutes or so by subway to the downtown core. Overall, staying here is by far the best option for budget travellers in Toronto. The motel is safe and clean (with the exception of the carpets). One drawback is the lack of a coin laundry for guests as the nearest public facility is a fifteen to twenty minute walk away where restaurants are located with the exeption of a Domino's Pizza across the street. "Howard Johnson in Scarborough - hookers paradise"
So the first thing I notice when I arrive is the prostitute going in to her room. The next thing I notice is that the entire hotel must be run by 1 person because the clerk had to clean and stock the 3 rooms I had reserved while I waited in the lobby. When I made my reservations I was told that the hotel was a convenient 4 miles from downtown Toronto […] but somewhere between booking and my arrival that 4 miles changed into 17 miles. When I went to my room I noticed that the hallways looked like they hadn't been cleaned or vacuumed in a long time and they must have felt that my wife and I weren't planning on showering since there was only 1 bath towel and 1 washcloth for 2 people. No bath mat and now hand towels. When I inquired at the front desk about another set of towels the clerk seemed very surprised at my request. "You want MORE towels?" The clerk walked in to the back and returned to tell me that none were available and he would bring some just as soon as they were out of the dryer. I guess all the other guests must have requested 5 sets of towels in their rooms. I returned to my room where a few minutes passed and the phone rang. It was the clerk calling to ask if I had requested more towels because he forgot what room I was in. After dropping off another set of towels I discovered that the clerk (I never saw any housekeeping employees) must have forgot to clean the shower because shower had black mold and mildew. The room itself was noticeably dim since one of the light bulbs in the bathroom and one out of a lamp were missing and the desk lamp apparently was broken since the head of it was dangling by the wires. No one in any of the three rooms slept much since the heat and a/c didn't have a thermostat so it was a constant battle of a/c on until it's too cold then get up and turn the heat/fan on until it's too hot and repeat. The "breakfast area" consisted of a microwave in the main lobby and an eating area in the basement that really gave the feeling like you Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Got in pretty late at night, the man at the front desk was incredibly cheerful and helpful, he walked us up the room and made sure we were comfortable before leaving. Inside was another story... There was a hole in the bathroom door resembling a fist, the towels were used and rehung dirty. Called down to the front and immediately got new towels with […] the same cheerfulness. Bed was slightly off-center and metal was exposed. The neighborhood is probably in the worst part of Scarborough, not a place I would recommend venturing into after dark. This hotel requires a $100 "Safety Deposit" if that says anything about the local life... All in all good people working in a mediocre hotel with the potential to be much better. "HoJo Toronto Scarbourough"
My family and I had a wonderful experience at this hotel. The room was A+ Fabulous.......the surrounding building was a dump because of the construction. I guess HoJo is renovating this property from being a previous hotel. Anyway the breakfast was good and the front desk gentlemen were ALL excellent and knowledgeable especially the Bengali and African […] American gentlemen. I would definitely recommend this property but the ONLY downfall is that it is 30-45 minutes away from downtown but VERY VERY comfortable with all new furniture and appliances (flat screen TV, coffee pots, showers, new comfortable beds, brand new rug, and the latest in lighting fixtures). I probably will stay there again in the near future. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We just needed a bed for the night, so this HJ worked out well for us. The neighborhood is not attractive and the exterior needs attention, but the interior was nice, clean, and comfy. Breakfast was free and adequate: cereal, toaster items, and a waffle cooker. A family of raccoons kept us entertained with dumpster antics outside the door, rendering […] the large TV unnecessary. Staff was helpful, advising us how to get downtown on public transit and survive the rain. Well worth the money. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Don't do it."
The hotel is being renovated ... while you stay there! We heard all the noise that was happening outside, there were tools, metal pieces, dry wall, and whatever else comes with remodeling, everywhere! And it seemed like they really only had 2 people working on the renovation the entire time we were there. And they were working on the fire-escape-like […] stairs, which were rusted out, with remodeling debris and tools all over them. The room itself was okay, nothing fancy, no extra amenities. There's no tub and no elevator, which is awful if you're traveling with an elderly parent. Overall, they need to shut down the hotel, remodel/renovate, then open it back up. I do not recommend staying here until renovation is done. And even then, don't expect much. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotel location is alright. 15 min to markham. when i went there, the hotel was under construction. so the appearance looks a little scary. but the equipment inside the room is all new. (new carpets, new LED TV), but there is no frig, blow drying, or bathtub. The coustomer service is very good!~ the reception was very helpful and freindly. If you […] are looking for a cheap stay, this is a good place. but just one freindly reminder, don't take the first floor, esp in the back of the hotels. there is alot of bug in the room! roches, tiny spider, and fly....(that's the room i stayed in) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Price for Good Hotel"
We are here for a second time. The hotel is quiet, calm, restful, which is what we wanted. The price is fantastic, along with the location. The hotel personnel is helpful and knowledgeable of the area. The breakfast is make your own hot waffles, coffee, toast, (wheat and white), juices, cereals, mufflins, and tea, although I swear I smell bacon every […] morning. They provide the daily paper (very important) and have a lobby TV on with weather reports. Plenty of parking. Very nice large TV with remote. The bus runs in front of hotel. Grocery stores, eating place, zoo, theatres all are close-by. We are quite content with the hotel. The cons: the halls are not air-conditioned, the lobby is small (almost cramped), the maids clean minimally, the ice is available only at desk, so you have to ask for it when they are around. A thumbs up for classic hotels! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

I hated the stay at Howard Johnson as we got terrible room neighbours who were sending complaints even for the smallest noises.
