Western Village Inn & Casino at the Marina Sparks

A short guide to Sparks

Sparks, Reno’s next-door neighbor, was founded in 1905 after the railroad built facilities here. Where Reno is tall, Sparks is low slung, with Victorian Square at its heart. This plaza has casinos, shops, a visitors’ center, and it hosts a farmers’ market. The Sparks Heritage Museum chronicles the city’s locomotive roots. Nearby, the Sparks Marina Park offers a 1-billion-gallon recreational lake.

A mix up caused a previous night to be charged without my arrival. Arranged for this night to be on ground floor and when I arrived it was on the second floor. Insisted on ground floor and finally got it. Parking was a joke. You get a parking pass but the Casino patrons took all of the parking spaces that were for hotel customers. The room was average but the toilet would barely work, and the exhaust fan in the bathroom will drown out the TV in the next room. Very unhappy and will not stay there again.

went for the rib cook off, needed a good priced room, it was, all the other hotels were outrageous, but of course it was for the event. but the casino is quaint, very neonish inside, dont get scared, but cute casino, hotel is fine too, nice view of marina, we had no problems at all with the room, only thing negative, is the hotel is not connected to casino so u have to repark your car to the hotel part, but its only across the parking lot, be prepared though when checking in all persons stayin in room need to show i.d. that was kinda annoying, i thought she was goin to ask for dna. nice stay though.

We booked a 3 night stay during the Rib Cookoff Festival. We had a king bed room and there was a lot of space. That was nice for us. The hotel and room itself was very dated. Clean for the most part but it just smelled and looked like it was from the 70s. Mirrored lamps and all. We had a nonsmoking room but I think the first floor is the smoking floor, which makes no sense to me since smoke rises. The bed sagged and was old and the sheets felt rough. The shower curtain was cloth and was either missing a liner or maintainence thought that a cloth curtain was sufficient. We didn't spend much time in the casino portion or the restaurants. Overall it was sufficient and we were content with the choice.

The hotel was pretty inexpensive. The checkin is in the casino so you have to go through a smoke filled casino to checkin/out. The hotel itself is in a different building. The hallways are a bit narrow. The room size was adequate with a work table. No free internet. There was fridge in the room which was good. Hair dryer has to be called in. The bed was fairly comfortable. The towels were a bit old/thin but were clean. I was taken aback when I was required to physically return the two card keys during checkout. I had never been required to return them. I normally destroy them when I get home. There was no manager to talk to when I called about this at 7 am.

Once we got into our room we were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and large. We found the bed very comfortable. Very hard water pressure in the shower. The marina is a very nice place to just go and sit. The motel is old and you can tell even though they have tried to do some upgrading. Also nice is the fact that you must use your room card to get into the hotel hallways from the outside.

We are a regular at the Peppermill and always stay 2-3 days there and and then 1 night at the Western Village. Food was great in the casino. Right next to a truckstop. Cleaning folks were great. Don't forget your tv remote at the front desk. At least it's not bolted to the night stand. If you order a pizza, you'll have to meet the delivery at the entrance. They won't have a keycard to gain access to the building. I think I saw my room phone in a 1970s Clint Eastwood flick. You get what ya pay for. This was a bargain price and that's all that was really good about the whole weekend.

I ordered a pizza while in the room only to have to go to the entrance to get it as the delivery guy couldn't get in without a keycard. Room service was nonexistant.
