"Stench of smoke in the hallway and apartment."
Despite being non-smoking apartment booking, the place reeks of cigarette.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"In city centre but not closed to subway station."
Comfortable and satisfactory.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is very far from Shinjuku station but closer to other minor stations. The hotel is ok, fairly clean and the staff is nice but there are other similar hotels in different areas for a better price. The locations seems great but isn't.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Seems overpriced. Maybe that's Tokyo?"
The hotel staff was very nice. The room was generally clean. The facility, however, was not much better than a 2-star motel in US. May be Tokyo price: the same price can get a very nice 3.5-star hotel in Kyoto.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
When I first arrived and checked in I felt the place was a bit sketchy since I had to walk through an alley then scary tile hallway through a garage before reaching the Front Desk. After getting to my room, I was so surprised of the design, cleanliness, and comfort. Room and location, not bad; front desk, maybe be a little more friendly. They were not […] like the other 7 hotels I stayed at on my trip who'd greet you each time. They pretty much avoided eye contact unless you approach them directly. "Good price for Shinjuku area"
Stayed at Listel for four nights. Room was comfortable with LAN connection, small fridge, air conditioning and flat screen TV (seemed to be only Japanese shows though.) Area is VERY loud at night so if you are a light sleeper you might try a different hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, good room for price"
During a 2 week visit to Japan, during which we stayed at 6 different hotels, Shinjuku Listel was probably one of the best. The location is a convenient walk from Shinjuku's central stretch and the room is nice for the price we paid. The decor was nicer than I expected for what I thought was a business hotel and the couch and tv were appreciated. The […] bathroom could've been bigger but that's probably true of most cost-effective hotels in Japan. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quiet and walking distance to the train station"
It is located within a walking distance to department stores, small super markets, fast food stores. The hotel staff members are friendly and informative.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location and close to everything!"
This hotel, was not a 5 star hotel, but it served its purpose. It was nested in a safe area and was only a block or two away from the main city action of Shinjuku. Everything from food to shopping, to the train station is right down the street. I highly recommend this hotel. Staff was friendly and quick.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not bad for the price"
It's cheap, so you shouldn't be expecting too much! The housekeeping people kept the room looking good everyday and the vending machines offered both Coke and Pepsi products.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Just what I needed, no more no less. Bed, and bathroom. Wish there were more english speakers though. Got kind of lost finding it but it really isn't too far from the Shinjuku station. ProTip: type hotel on your iPhones map app and search through the pins.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great place to stay in shinjuku. About 15 minutes walk from shinjuku station. Great breakfast for 1.200 yens. I would stay at this hotel again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"3 nights - solo traveller"
Stayed in a room with two single bed facing Shinjuku city. The room is basic; two beds, 32 inch LCD tv, desk, mini fridge, 2 chairs and a small table. Being. Japanese hotel you still get the sleeping robe, slippers, razor and toothbrushes. The room a bit tired looking as you expect for a 3 star hotel but is also very clean. Location is a bit far for […] some. A brisk walk from Kabuki-cho is around 15min. Slower walkers may take longer. The surrounding streets isn't the most interesting either but it's quiet and very safe, just a little suburban. Overall, I was very happy with this hotel. It's good value for the price and would definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It was good, but a bit far from the station. The map to the hotel was very confusing. It should be updated.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Shinjuku location"
Everything about the hotel was great except the comfort of the beds. After a few nights my back was uncomfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A little far"
This is a little bit of a walk from the JR line and I would recommend take a cab with directions to the place printed in both english and japanese so the cab driver could figure out where he's going. The cab fare around there is actually pretty cheap. Shinjuku is a good place to hang around the bars but remember there's a cover charge at almost all […] of them. There are some unique places to eat there which are fun and its right next to the university. This place would be great for a nice stroll. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good value and good location."
We chose the Listel in Shinjuku at the very last minute as our previous reservation was canceled on us the day of our flight into Tokyo. It's not an extremely fancy hotel, but the price accurately reflects that, and it's just a few minutes away from the Shinjuku Sanchome station (I believe exit C7 was the closest to the hotel). For the price and location, […] this is a pretty good place to pick. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Pleasant stay, quite a walk to the train station"
My husband and I had a lovely experience with this hotel. We were afraid the bed would be too small from the picture given, as I've stayed in Japan before and know the beds are typically small, but it was perfect size for us (and we are not small people). The room, while a bit small, was again perfectly sized to keep our luggage and relax comfortably […] in. The room was clean and well-stocked; in the shower is a dispenser for shampoo, conditioner, and body wash which are all high-quality. Also given are disposable combs, safety razors, and tooth brushes with tooth paste. The staff were courteous. I was told via review that they knew no English, and this is not true; maybe not fluent, but well-versed enough to handle check-in, check-out, and typical requests. The breakfast buffet is alright. You have to buy a ticket from the front desk. We got a discount for doing it the night before. Check it out if you want a big breakfast that is largely traditional Japanese, as there aren't really any breakfast places nearby besides convenience marts. The one thing I might warn for is LOCATION - this hotel is a 25 or so minute walk from the Shinjuku train station, and a ways from the local Shinjuku sanchome subway. If you are a walker, this place is good for you. If you need a place near the trains, you probably want somewhere else. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel for the price"
If you arrive at JR Shinjuku station, take a taxi to the hotel. About ¥800-900. Hotel is a bit far from the station to walk WITH luggage. Once you check-in and drop your bags off, take the area map from the front desk and explore the area on foot. It's about a 15-20 walk back to JR Shinjuku station. You'll find everything from dinning to shopping, drinking […] to entertainment from your walk in the area. Please note that this is a no-frills hotel. It does it's job in providing a roof over your head, a bed and hot running water. Staff speaks enough English and checkout is at 10a. They will hold your luggage if you have a later flight to catch. "Less convenient than it appears on the map"
Get what you pay for. Room was small and dated but cozy. Bed was not comfortable (have you ever seen a beautifully dressed bed in a department store, been enticed to sit on it, and upon doing so realized the 'bed' was actually a wooden box? It felt like that). Staff were friendly. The main reason I would not stay here again, though, is it really is […] a long and uncomfortable hike from Shinjuku station and any subway stops. Especially with luggage. :/ Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"English speakers will feel right at home."
Single occupents get the best veiw at the hotel. The rooms for singles are very small but because they are located on the back corners of each floor you get two views of the shinjuku area. The room was very dusty. I had to make a request for it to be dustied every other day. If I did not mention it, the cleaning crew would do everything but that. The […] buffett was very good. Most of the staff speaks English and are very kind. They have a lot of AulstraiIians and Americans staying there. They serve a buffett 3 times a day. I did not try the lunch or dinner but if you want American food they do serve an American style breakfast. It's a great contrast, because when you walk out the door you can get Japanese food anywhere. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Alright hotel but hard to reach."
The hotel is alright. It's clean but it's old so there's stains on the carpets that makes the room less clean. And the really big draw back is that it's really far from Shinjuku station, at least a 20 mins walk or a ¥800 taxi ride. Other then that, the hotel staff was friendly and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Kind of hard to locate"
The hotel signboard is kind of small that locating if for the first-timer is difficult. On booking, it says that I can get a discount for bus transfer to the hotel from the airport. But when I asked for bus tranport at the airport, they told me that the bus services do not include this particular hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenient and comfortable"
I was here for three nights in Tokyo, travelling alone. Arrived at the hotel via taxi from Shinjuku station late at night. The area surrounding the hotel is a little away from the major busy streets - far enough away to be quiet, but still have enough life and convenience. As a single female traveller, I felt quite safe walking back to the hotel late […] at night. Shinjuku-gyoenmae station was the closest to the hotel, but just a quick walk away was Shinjuku-sanchome and the main Shinjuku station itself, both of which are on major lines that connect you to many other parts of Tokyo. I was comfortable with the size of the room, though I was just travelling alone and don't need much space. Wifi in the rooms was a definitely bonus. The staff were able to speak English, and were very helpful in giving directions and suggestions. Would definitely come back here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Value for money rooms"
The staff were extremely attentive and helpful - we did some online shopping and it was delivered to the hotel before check-in. The hotel staff kept a look-out for the delivery and handed the package to us upon check-in. This is a very affordable hotel - about 8,500 yen for a double room. The only drawback is that it is a couple of subway stops from […] the Shinjuku station. It is also a 10-min walk to the Shinjuku-san-chome subway station from the hotel. Great Hotel. FREE unlimited internet was a great feature for me to feel that I am not away from my family. The room was nice and clean and welcoming every time I come in. Staffs are very good. "Not bad for the price, a little hard to find."
Quite a good place when you come to see Tokyo on a budget. The rooms could do with some refurbishment, but they are clean and convenient, although not very large. The location is pretty good not far from Shinjuku (a 20 min walk or a 5-min 200 yen bus ride) and a subway line, there are fantastic restraunts in the alleys nearby, well worth exploring. […] Being in a sideroad, the hotel was not easy to find though, perhaps, a taxi from the station is not a bad idea when you first arrive in Shinjuku. Yeah, and both wired and wireless internet connections (you wont find wireless everywhere in Japan). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great value, friendly staff"
We visited Tokyo for 4 days and found this hotel cheap and convenient. Once arrived early staff was welcoming, there is luggage storage and free wifi available which was useful to plan our day. The room was nice neither more nor less but for the price it was great. I would definitely recommend this place for a younger couple or someone who just needs […] a comfortable room to sleep. The location generally is convenient in a very quiet area a little outside of Shinjuku/Kabukicho, however if you have a lot of luggage it is a fair walk to the station so a short Taxi ride may be required. "My Listel Shinjuku Hotel Experience"
I was nervous at first about the hotel because I was concerned about 2 things (1) distance from the metro station (2) cleanliness/size of room. When I arrived at Tokyo I took the Narita Express to Shinjuku Station and walked to the hotel, it took me about 20 mins to walk to the hotel from Shinjuku Station ( I later found that there is actually a nearer […] station - Shinjuku-sanchome which is about 8-10 mins walk from the hotel). I was not difficult to find the hotel, and I stayed there for 4 nights and because the hotel was located at a back lane is was very quiet. The room size was decent, it has everything a traveller would need. I was extremely impressed on how well stocked the rooms was. There is a mini fridge where I stock my beers and drinks I can easily buy from the convenience store down the street. An ironing board, kettle to boil water, hair dryer, slippers, night robes and even a bottle of fabric sanitizer to spray on my clothes/jackets. There is a flat screen TV and a control centre with alarm clock next to the bed. Most importantly there is free WIFI connection. The toilet was not too big but they manage to get a medium bathtub with shower and a automatic "Japanese style toilet bowl" with remote control bidet, and wash basin in so I cant complain. The staff is very polite and friendly always greeting you when they see you. Although they don't speak much English some converse very well in Mandarin. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good hotel overall"
Great in terms of cleanliness, facilities, and proximity to convenience stores, a couple restaurants, and Tokyo metro, but a good 10 to 15 minutes walk from the major commercial area of Shinjuku and the JR Shinjuku station. Some of the staff were almost completely unable to converse in English. Worth the stay if reasonably priced.Genuine Expedia guest review
