I stayed in this hotel for only 1 night with a friend, a quick visit to Lucca. The lady at reception does not speak al lot of English, but we managed to understand each other well. This actually goes for most Italians, but as long as you smile they are willing to help further. The hotel is near the old city of Lucca, just a few minutes walk to the entrance. The complementary breakfast is ok and sufficient. Lucca itself is just beautiful, and so worth going! Hotel is just over road from train station. Really good location, a very short walk to the Lucca walls. Room is spacious but bathroom is small, shower cubicle tiny! The first morning there was no hot water which wasn't too good. Breakfast was ok, not amazing but standard. I would stay here again.

A great base for anyone considering travel by train to Lucca, the Hotel Rex is situated directly outside the station. Lucca is a beautiful place easily walkable but quite easy to get lost in, it's therefore also an advantage that the Hotel Rex is just outside the city walls as it gives you a chance to freshen up, pick up a map and then head into town […] for a Chianti. Staffed by family members, the rooms are spotlessly clean and whilst the hotel is not the most modern and has some quirks, this does not detract from it's main locational strengths at all. My wife and I used the hotel as a base whilst visiting to take in the annual summer music festival in Lucca, which is staged in Piazza Napoleone within the walls and is quite magnificient. Read more

This is a 3 star hotel so not deluxe. However the location is excellent as it is next to the train station and just outside the old town walls. The room was spacious with everything required. Air conditioning was not working but as it was not overly hot was not an issue. Could open the window although this was a little noisy. Literally steps between the train station and the city walls. Kettle for tea was a nice touch. Full of dusty plastic flowers and disinterested staff. Lots of food arranged for breakfast but no plates. Had to hunt for staff. Room was clean and quiet. Lucca is lovely, not to be missed.

A very comfortable hotel, just close to the walls of the town and to the train station (1 min walk to reach both of them). The location is good both for visiting Lucca and for planning a one-day trip to Pisa (30 min by train). The hotel also has its own car park free for clients, very useful if you are going to reach Lucca by car. Stayed here one night with our 2 year old daughter. The hotel has excellent and quiet location just outside one of the entry point to the old city. We got a nice family room with a baby cot prepared for our daughter as well as some children's toys (much appreciated by her). The hotel is a bit dated and could use some updating. The booking said 4 persons but when we came only three beds were available. The next day the hotel switched us to a 4 person room. Great breakfast in a plastic ornamental breakfast restaurant. Power outage and missing safety exit keys, wifi not working in the room, makes me reluctant to recommend the hotel.

The hotel was comfortable and well-placed, just outside the walls of the old city and about 100 yards from the train station. The staff was very friendly and helpful. For example, the day before our flight home, the receptionist checked us in on-line, thus saving time by not having to queue at the check-in desks, which can become rather crowded at Pisa […] airport. On the morning of our departure, we were each given a small gift to take home with us; a very nice touch I thought. The breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. From the hotel, it was only a short walk into the old city, where there were any number of good, reasonably priced bars and restaurants. Lucca is a lovely, old city with plenty to see and do. I would reccommend a visit to anyone. The local bus station, located by a short walk along the walls from the hotel, gives access to day trips to many interesting towns and villages. The proximity of the railway station to the hotel enables trips to places further away and not neccessarily served by buses. Great family room (1 double + 2 single beds) and 100 m from an entrance to the old city. Friendly staff and good parking in public square right in front of the hotel. Bathroom facilities somewhat shabby though and breakfast very bland.

Die Rezeption ist sehr gut besetzt, äußerst freundlich und kompetent! Das ist eine Freude! Die Duschkabine im Bad ist aber schon sehr klein. Da ist kaum Platz.

Perfekt beliggenhet. Rett utenfor bymuren og med jernbanestasjonen bare 100 meter unna. Lite støy på de rommene vi hadde. Store luftige rom. Veldig harde senger. Grei italiensk frokost. Svært hjelpsomme i resepsjonen. Hotellet låner ut sykler. En sykkeltur oppå bymuren kan anbefales.

Wir (Ehepaar Ende 40/Anfang 50) haben ein Wochenende im Hotel Rex in Lucca verbracht. Die Stadt kannten wir schon vorher und sie gefällt uns sehr gut. Das Hotel haben wir gewählt, da es am Stadtrand liegt und man kann die Altstadt von Lucca in 2 Minuten zu Fuss erreichen. Da wir einen kostenlosen Parkplatz direkt vor dem Hotel gefunden hatten, haben […] wir den Wagen an den 3 Tagen nicht benutzt. (Das Parken in Lucca ist sonst ein echtes Problem) Das Hotel war nicht überragend aber ok. Das Frühstücksbuffet war für italienische Verhältnisse sehr gut, der Service freundlich. Das Zimmer war recht klein aber sauber. Leider gab es im Bad keine Dusche, sondern eine Wanne mit dem öbligatorischen Vorhang und man konnte den Duschkopf nicht befestigen. Insgesamt waren wir mit dem Hotel zufrieden und würden es wieder wählen. Der Hotelportier empfahl uns eine Trattoria (Francesco) in der Nähe (ca. 400m), die einfach nur klasse war. Toskanische Küche zu sehr zivilen Preisen, die man so nur noch selten findet. Nicht umsonst war das Lokal sehr voll. Ein Besuch lohnt sich ebenso wie eine reise nach Lucca. Read more

Famille de 2 adultes et 2 enfants nous avons eu une superbe chambre ! Les enfants étant petits nous avons été logés dans un grand espace, qui s'appellerait suite dans une 4 étoiles ! Une chambre pour les parents et une pour les enfants. Les plafonds ont une belle hauteur, la clim fonctionne bien. L'hôtel a un côté "vieillot" qui lui confère un certain […] charme. Il est à moins de 10 mn de la vieille ville de Lucca intra muros. Le personnel est accueillant et chaleureux, les enfants sont réellement les bienvenus avec un espace jeu qui leur est dédié (jouets, livres...)
