Let me start by saying all hotels should be reviewed in the context of their surroundings. As an American if you expect to stay in a Hilton or holiday inn type of hotel, you should stay home. To stay in a small family run hotel is part of a trip to Rome not to be messed. Our arrival at the hotel was 4 hours before checking in time, not only was our […] room ready and waiting for us we were recognized as former guest from 12 years ago. The greeting at the desk was warm and welcoming, and we were immediately shown to room number four. In the tradition of European accommodations it was smaller than United States hotel rooms, the room was remodeled in the last year and was perfectly clean. The bath was of good size and completely tiled with shower , again perfectly clean. The hotel has a small breakfast room in which they serve a fine continental breakfast. Internet Services is free and of good quality. We stayed at the hotel 14 days , at all times we were treated more as family and friends than paying guest. This type of personal service makes returning to your hotel room after a long day feel like coming home. I would happily recommend this hotel to family and friends. Read more

My sister-in-law and I stayed at Hotel Italia a total of six days on two occasions over a three week period, before and after a cruise. We found the Hotel staff (Abdul, Sabrina, & the others) extremely helpful with our questions and problem resolution skills; they worked extremely hard to provide all types of information about what was available from […] restaurants to events in Rome. The hotel itself is older; the rooms are small, but you don't go to Rome to lounge in the rooms, you are there to see Rome! The location is excellent and close to buses and Metro. Beds are firm and comfortable. The showers may be challenging for Americans, but perservere. We had one of the larger rooms in the hotel and were very happy with the size. We travelled with our two sons, 18 and 15 and the room was perfect for us. We paid the extra 10 Euro for the air conditioner, which worked very well during the 90 degree (F) days. The hotel was very conveniently located to all major tourist sites. We walked everywhere, with […] the exception of the Vatican. However, the bus for the Vatican stopped directly across from the hotel. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, and everyone spoke English. Hotel Italia is placed in a very good location in Rome. It's very easy to walk or take a public bus from the hotel to the main attractions. The room is air conditioned and very clean. Sheets and towels are very clean and are changed every day. The only thing that I did not like was the humidity of the room and the smell caused by it. We stayed here for the last night of our trip to Italy. The wifi never worked despite repeatedly being told it worked after asking for help. We were told it was a problem with our ipad even though it worked fine elsewhere. We ended up using a nearby hotel's wifi to skype our son back in the US. The man at the desk was incredibly rude and abrasive. The […] bed was extremely uncomfortable. I had springs poking into me all night. The best part of our stay is that we were only there 1 night. Excellent value for money no frills hotel, away from station area but easy walk from station, walking distance from and central to all sights and easy reach of 2 metro stations. I would recommend it to friends and would happily stay there again.

Bad frying smell through building shaft.We were not able to operate AC though we were ready to pay 10 euro/night for that and we had to take the heat and frying smell as the window had to be kept open. Located on an upper level of a larger building, the hotel was off a main road in a relatively quiet street.. Not far from Piazza de la Repubblica (5 mins) and only a 15 min walk from the main train station. Plenty of places to eat nearby and good cafes also nearby. metro station 5 mins and heaps of taxis close by too. Walking distance to Spanish Steps […] (20mins), Trevi Fountain (15 mins) and Collesseum (30mins). On first impressions, the place didn't capture me, but the more days I stayed there, the better the feeling about the place. I would return. Tight breakfast sitting area and reasonable standard continental breakfast, with esspresso coffee available. Free wi-fi available in the reception area. On the down side, was the 10 euro/day charge if you wanted to use the airconditioning (not mentioned anywhere#, although when I was there, it was possible to get by due to cooler nights #will depend on your tolerance to heat). The maids use the cupboard a mere 0.5 metre away from our door as a towel/bed linen station and made continual noise to wake us up from 7.30am every morning. (+) Positives + Location, this hotel is conveniently located a short walk (< 10 minutes) to the Fountain Di Trevi/Colosseum/Forum, etc) and bus stops are readily available on Via Nazionale + Breakfast and service is always good with a good selection of fresh and baked products + Free WiFi throughout the hotel with reasonable speeds to VoIP (Skype) + Via Nazionale provides good shopping opportunities for the ladies and it is far enough out of the tourist hot spots for rip-off restaurants, shops, etc + Hot water pressure is good (-) Negatives - Some of the rooms are very small - Can be hard to find but once you are away of where it is, there is no problem - The beds during this stay were uncomfortable - You need to pay a nightly fee to use the in-room air conditioner (10 Euros I think) - The shower was literally so small a lot of people would struggle to fit in it If you are travelling with 3 or 4 people we still recommend this hotel. A simple no frills city hotel. This was ideally located for all major tourist sites. We walked everywhere! The hotel is located in two buildings. We stayed in the annexe which was quieter and more family orientated. Rooms were simple and clean. Lite skeptiska var vi allt efter att vi sett bilder online, men hotellet ligger bra till på en liten sidogata utmed en stor och ordentligt traffikerad väg med stora shoppingmöjligheter. In de Herfstvakantie waren we 4 dagen te gast in hotel Italia. Het hotel ligt op een prima plek, 10 minuten lopen van het station en 15 minuten lopen van het Colosseum. In de buurt veel leuke eettentjes! Het hotel is niet bijzonder lux maar het personeel is erg aardig. Kortom: goed 2-sterrenhotel
