The Courtyard is a fairly new building, no older than five years, I'd say. The reason for that is the neighborhood it's in. For those of you familiar with Washington DC who haven't been back behind Union Station in a while, take another look. This was a truly scary part of town (and I'm from The Bronx). Just five years ago the Greyhound Station was […] located in this part of town. And is often the case, where the bus station lies, so does crime, drugs, panhandling and prostitution. I haven't been over there since dropping a friend at the bus station--and then waiting with her until she was safely on the bus--some six years ago. But since then, Washington DC officials have engineered a brand new neighborhood consisting of highrise apartments, tech companies and (under construction) NPRs new headquarters. Anchored at one end by Union Station and at the other by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms' new headquarters, the neighborhood is clean and safe. The only downside is since it is so new, the variety of restaurants is lacking, although if I'd have counted, I'd say there were close to a dozen, including the ubiquitous Starbucks. The hotel itself was very nice. Clean and neat with large rooms. The staff was VERY friendly. And, the price was good. Take this from someone who generally spends between 75 and 100 nights away from home each year. Read more

We stayed here for 2 nights - the hotel is 1 stop from Union Station and a 10 - 15 minute walk to H street and all of the wonderful restaurants. I would definitely stay here again. Some people complained that the area was rough - it's urban, if you don't like the diversity off the city you should stay in the burbs. My family loved it!

Hotel 1 station away from Union station and itself not even 1 block from the train station. Only thing was this train station does not open until 7 on weekends and if you have a conference session starting at that time, you might want to book a cab or you will miss it. Otherwise, a perfect price and location. Friendly staff. Would stay again.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights while in DC for the Nike Women's Marathon. Got a great deal from Hotels.com. Everything was superb, and the metro is right outside the hotel, so you can get to the heart of DC in a matter of seconds for really cheap!

The hotel is very Nice and the staff is also extremely accommodating and friendly. The only downer is the area has stray people walking by but there is a 24 hour security guard right in front and valet parking.

This is good hotel, with very close metro access. However, not ideal for a family trip. The area is a bit sketchy after dark, as others have pointed out. We stayed at this hotel because of the NCAA basketball tournament. It was convienent to many restaurants, grocery stores, and the Verizon Center. The hotel was very clean and the staff was very accomodating. Liked the security of the building. WORTH THE MONEY!!!!! Service was great! They kept our bags for us after checkout for several hours since our flight wasn't until later that night. It was right across the street from the Dept of ATF and several restaurants!!!! Metro was within 20 yards of the hotel's front door!!! So do not rent a car. YOu don't need it!!!! The location of this hotel is useful for DC Metro access. The down side is that there are trains running all night and lots of construction surrounding the building. A real mess with jackhammers going all night. Nowhere to walk in the evening. Did I mention the party on our floor in the middle of the night? Several rooms, lots of people, loud music, […] yelling, screaming ( kind of scary). Called the front desk at 130 AM. Never sent security until after 2:30 AM. I was told upon checkout that the guests were kicked out in the middle of the night. I was compensated for no sleep with 2 cups of complimentary coffee from the hotel Starbucks. Not goin back....... The hotel appears to be in a not so safe part of the town. Police cars patrolling there. No good restaurant around. Close to metro station which making it convenient but also noisy when sleeping at night. It is worth the extra $$$ for me to stay at the Fairmont the following day on this trip.

My wife & I came up by train for busman's holiday. Selected this hotel based on ratings in Expedia and it's location on a metro stop. For the cost, I cannot imagine a better choice in a location this close to the Capital Mall. Staff was very nice and the room was clean & quite on the 8th floor. Our room included free breakfast from the on site restaurant. […] The menu is limited but sufficient for our needs. The pool, although small, was clean. We enjoyed our stay here very much. Some have mentioned the location as a transitional area. Not sure what they are talking about. I think they may have never stayed in a large city before. Was looking to get away for the weekend and had never even to DC. The hotel is perfectly positioned for anyone using public transportation, as it's positioned right off of the "Red Line" of the Metro. The bar downstairs was nice, but grossly overpriced! What I really like about the hotel is that you can check in anytime. It's a hotel that's convenient to 7 Eleven, Harris Teeter and a few other places. As long as you don't need to park anywhere, you will be fine. This was a quality hotel. Clean room, friendly staff, can be a good deal because it is not surrounded by the best area but is right near the metro and easy to get a cab.

Booked a king room but they only had 2 queens, which wasn't a big deal breaker and was about the only minus I had about the stay. Didn't eat at the cafe, but it looked pretty modern and clean. Rooms were above standard, very clean, my view was of the train station and occasionally there were a few trains tooting their horns but I don't remember any […] at night. Overall a good stay, got lost trying to find it and ended up in some not so nice neighborhoods. Around a little strip that has some restaurants and cafes. Also right near the red line metro. While the location of the hotel was not difficult to locate, it was difficult to find the entrance. The entrance is on what looks like a side street; you do not try to enter in the parking garage (valet only, $33/night). However to get to the side street, you can only enter from one direction. Missing the turn is a mistake will cost you a lot of time […] due to the one way streets. I've looked at this hotel many times due its proximity to the Metro, where I can get to my events and sightseeing. I booked it this time due the great rates and was very pleased. The walk out the Metro door was about 50 yards. Security is everywhere, so I felt safe, but feel that if it's this necessary, what's up with the area? Comfortable/clean room […] w/ large shower (felt new!), free internet, a cozy sports bar atmosphere w/ good food, and several fast food joints nearby to grab lunch and/or dinner.
