"All-Around Best Bet for Visits to ISU!"
From the free breakfast to the impeccably cleaned new rooms and exceedingly great hospitality off argement, I'm convinced that you need look no further if registering for a stay to Iowa State University. Remodeled from an old Frat House, the building is not only beautiful but central to and in easy walking or bussing distance to the central areas of […] campus such as the Memorial Union. If you're visiting Iowa State, I'd recommend signing up early and stopping your search at Good 'Ol Iowa House! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"My new favorite!"
What a great find! So nice to stay at a place that isn't a hotel!! Such character and so close to everything! Breakfast included is great. Only suggestion is to have more than 1 pancake on pancake day. But this is my new favorite!Genuine Expedia guest review
"4.5/5. Will stay again if Son picks Iowa State"
My stay was wonderful. The trip took longer than expected and the check in attendant stayed past her shift to make sure I got there. There was a dessert bar. Eating my chocolate cake in the whirlpool tub was wonderful and all the toiletries smelled great too. The bed was super soft and the white noise machine was welcoming as sOmeone that sleeps with […] a fan. The breakfast was delicious. My only negative remarks. There was food in my fridge from previous guest, and a hair in the tub that wasn't mine before I got in. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Atmosphere - Warm and Welcoming"
My son and I were staying to visit the ISU campus. We arrived late after a long car trip. The night staff person was very helpful and welcoming. After the long drive my son wanted to work out and the was disappointed the hotel didn't have an excercise room. The staff was quick to note the Iowa House had a relationship with Anytime Fitness and provided […] a pass and dirrections. Most helpful. Breakfast the next morning left something to be desired. There weren't that many guests yet the kitchen was slow and the food wasn't anything special, not what I expected of a bed and breakfast. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Beautiful and peaceful bed & breakfast located on the campus of Iowa State University. A hidden gem.....Genuine Expedia guest review
It is a comfort place, and is very close to ISU campus. I especially like the breakfast there. I strongly recommed this hotel to everyone. I will definately stay this place for my next visit to Ames.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clean & quiet, good breakfast"
Very clean & quiet! Breakfast was delightful, close to campus.Genuine Expedia guest review
very impressed. My first time ever at a Bed and BreakfastGenuine Expedia guest review
Great experience, a little mix up in the room that we had reserved, but they were very accommodating and were able to give us the room we wanted. Excellent breakfast, also accommodating the fact that neither my husband and I like "eggs Benedict" so we got our own special order, of scrambled and poached. Great stay and nice people.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Move the TV"
Iowa House is in a converted fraternity house, and historic building. The house is elegant and romantic very well furnished. However in our room the TV was mounted beneath a spiral staircase, making it almost impossible to avoid hitting your head. so when you stay there, wear a helmet and have fun.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Couldn't have asked for more. Very gracious and accommodating hosts, and beautifully decorated, restored and updated old building. The breakfast was wonderful, snacks available all the time, and even a glass of wine was made available when I requested it. The room was a nice size and very comfortable, even including a dream machine with various sounds […] available to fall asleep to, in addition to the clock radio. Didn't ttry the flat panel TV, as I was able to watch my home DVR over the internet since the internet connection was so strong - something I haven't been able to do at other hotels due to their weak connections. This place is so much better than most of the big boring box hotels in the area. It feels a bit like you are just staying with friends - the owners/staff are not in your face and you can really make yourself at home here. The breakfast is tops!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This was our first time staying at a bed-and-breakfast. When we arrived, my husband was a bit concerned as he felt like he was going into someone's home. LOL! Once we saw our room, he felt more at ease. It was clean, cute, comfortable, and very cozy. If we are in the area again, we will definitely stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to get away from it all!"
What a pleasant surprise! I would highly recommend this 'hotel' - though it felt more like a charming B&B. It was lovely, clean, quiet & comfy.Genuine Expedia guest review
Next time I am in Ames I will be sure to stay at The Iowa House again. It was the prefect place for me to stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is lovely. Breakfast was great. The only complaint I have is our room was never tidied up while we were gone. It also would have been nice to have a chest with drawers. I definitely would recommend it on the whole.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent change from the same old cookie cutter hotels. I will stay there again foresure .Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming venue in Iowa"
We visited the Iowa House during a festive college weekend at Iowa State (Veishea) and the noise outside forced us to sleep with a pillow over our heads. This situation certainly was not the fault of the proprietors, but made our stay less pleasant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to stay"
We were delighted to find Iowa House - a small hotel with great character - and wonderful breakfasts too! Must be the best place to stay when visiting Ames - and ideally located for ISU. Our room was a little small - but we did opt for the cheapest option!; if you're staying for more than a couple of nights I would opt for a larger room. The student […] who greeted us made us feel very welcome. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable and cozy"
We spent 5 days in Ames visiting friends and we're pleased to have found this warm and relaxed place to stay. The staff was welcoming and helpful, the room comfortable, with a good breakfast cooked each morning. It was a good place to relax. It is located near the university which could be a plus - the students can be a bit noisy on a Friday and Sarurday […] night. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Mysigt familjeägt Bed & breakfast"
Mysigt, kändes som att komma hem till en familj att bo där. Helt okey frukost, dock inget överdåd. Rent, dock heltäckningsmatta i sovrummet.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Ein Hotel wie ein Zuhause"
Ich fand den Aufenthalt sehr angenehm, zum einen durch die menschliche Nähe zur Rezeption (Anne), die evtl. Fragen und Probleme engagiert und zielstrebig bearbeitete, und zur Küche (Swetlana), die alles tat, um den Frühstückspräferenzen der internationalen Gästen zu entsprechen, zum anderen durch die räumliche Nähe zum Campus und zur Stadt Ames.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The staffs were very friendly ,rooms were relatively big and cozy.Basically things that you need, just ask for it and likely there isn't any problems with that. For breakfast this isn't the typical buffet style breakfast where you can request what type of meal you would like. For that price and service i would give a 4.5 stars.
"Comfortable and quaint"
12/11/14 Tim B Sioux City, Iowa
This is one of the larger B & B I have stayed in. It is still quaint with quits all over the place and nice older, yet still functional furnishings. The bathroom was large and had an oversized whirlpool tub and shower. The internet worked great (for a change when it comes to hotels). The bed was really comfortable. The made-to-order breakfast was delicious. All of the staff members were great to deal with--very pleasant and accommodating. Consider the Iowa House when you come to Ames.
"Nice B&B with a few hiccups."
11/30/14 coremland Seattle, Washington
My husband and I stayed at the Iowa House over Thanksgiving Weekend 2014 in room #206. The B&B itself is cute, the staff was friendly and able to get us an early check in, and the breakfast was great. Iowa House is in a great location and you can easily walk to restaurants and coffee shops. We encountered two issues during our stay, one that was corrected and the other was not corrected. The first issue was the central heat. The settings were set very high. On our first night, our room felt like a sauna, and we had no control over the heat setting. We did talk about this with others at breakfast the next morning and everyone was in agreement that the rooms were too hot. We addressed the front desk, and that same evening the temperature was set at a much more comfortable level. The second issue was that our bath/shower water temperature did not get warmer than luke-warm. This meant that you were literally cold when taking a shower. We asked around and no one else seemed to have this same issue. When we brought the issue up to the front desk they offered us a room change, however the room set-up would have been twin beds so we declined. The gentleman at the desk said he would see about getting someone out to look at the bath/shower. The water temperature was never fixed and we did not receive any type of update as to the status of the shower. This second issue regarding hot water in the shower is the main reason why I am reviewing the Iowa House as average.

This is a cozy and inviting place, lovingly decorated and maintained, and a bargain to boot; it would set you back two or three times the going rate if it were located in any place other than Ames. We were there recently for a loved one's memorial celebration, and the inn, and its common areas, including fireplace and over-stuffed chairs, provided the perfect place for family members to reminisce and catch up (and sample the always hot coffee).
"Iowa B&B good for business traveler"
11/04/14 MJoTucson_AZ Tucson, AZ
On the plus side, nicely-sized rooms with wifi and a breakfast during the week that starts early enough (7AM) for a business traveler. Very friendly check-in staff, and awesome baked goods and lovely breakfast. On the down side, I stayed in room 101, which is apparently located above the Innkeeper's quarters. I never met him, but boy could I hear him--loud television until 11PM+ each evening, loud throat clearing, stomping feet, and really exuberant Sunday night football cheering. I was shocked after night 1 to learn that the noisy person keeping me awake was the Innkeeper!! I should have taken the front desk person up on moving my room--I was settled in by then and hated to repack, but really should have done so. I would recommend Iowa House, but NOT rooms 101 or 102.
"Well worth it."
10/18/14 RobertBK MANCHESTER
Convenient location, ample parking, friendly staff, plenty of tasty and attractive food, comfortable bed, large room, attractively priced, places to meet and chat with other guests, and a whirlpool tub to boot. Couldn't ask for more in a bed and breakfast establishment.
"Home Away From Home"
10/13/14 Jennifer T Sacramento, California
This was a wonderful find. I travel to Ames once a year for work and am so tired of staying in those, "box" hotels. The breakfast provided was lovely and Svedlana, the cook was the sweetest woman. I felt like I was among friends, I will not stay anywhere else while in Ames.

Not a big fan of B&B's, but all hotels were sold out (or over $200) for the Iowa State vs Baylor football game. So by default, we booked this B&B and it was AWESOME! Makes me rethink my aversion to B&B's. #1. It was very CLEAN. The rooms. The eating area. The common areas. #2. Super convenient to campus. And only about a mile to the football stadium. #3. Excellent food. #4. Comfy rooms. #5. Small, uncrowded bar 3 blocks away. The people were very nice. I was just so happy it was clean.

The room was beautiful, clean, and very comfortable. Not a super friendly check in person but everything else was great. Easy access to college. Remember to pick up snacks and ice before you go as there are no vending machines. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic!
"Great place to stay!"
09/02/14 LindaZ_Illinois Oswego, Illinois
Clean and comfortable. Great breakfast. Great location....5 minute walk to the music building where I had rehearsals for an event in July. Coffee, tea and treats were available all day...nice presentation. There are several areas to read or visit, all large enough to keep to yourself if you like, including the living room, patio and porch. If you like to walk, it's in a nice residential area. It was my first visit to Ames...great college town. Staff was friendly and accommodating for later checkout. I would definitely stay again.
