Couldn't have asked for more. Very gracious and accommodating hosts, and beautifully decorated, restored and updated old building. The breakfast was wonderful, snacks available all the time, and even a glass of wine was made available when I requested it. The room was a nice size and very comfortable, even including a dream machine with various sounds […] available to fall asleep to, in addition to the clock radio. Didn't ttry the flat panel TV, as I was able to watch my home DVR over the internet since the internet connection was so strong - something I haven't been able to do at other hotels due to their weak connections. This place is so much better than most of the big boring box hotels in the area. It feels a bit like you are just staying with friends - the owners/staff are not in your face and you can really make yourself at home here. The breakfast is tops!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This was our first time staying at a bed-and-breakfast. When we arrived, my husband was a bit concerned as he felt like he was going into someone's home. LOL! Once we saw our room, he felt more at ease. It was clean, cute, comfortable, and very cozy. If we are in the area again, we will definitely stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to get away from it all!"
What a pleasant surprise! I would highly recommend this 'hotel' - though it felt more like a charming B&B. It was lovely, clean, quiet & comfy.Genuine Expedia guest review
Next time I am in Ames I will be sure to stay at The Iowa House again. It was the prefect place for me to stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is lovely. Breakfast was great. The only complaint I have is our room was never tidied up while we were gone. It also would have been nice to have a chest with drawers. I definitely would recommend it on the whole.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent change from the same old cookie cutter hotels. I will stay there again foresure .Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming venue in Iowa"
We visited the Iowa House during a festive college weekend at Iowa State (Veishea) and the noise outside forced us to sleep with a pillow over our heads. This situation certainly was not the fault of the proprietors, but made our stay less pleasant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to stay"
We were delighted to find Iowa House - a small hotel with great character - and wonderful breakfasts too! Must be the best place to stay when visiting Ames - and ideally located for ISU. Our room was a little small - but we did opt for the cheapest option!; if you're staying for more than a couple of nights I would opt for a larger room. The student […] who greeted us made us feel very welcome. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable and cozy"
We spent 5 days in Ames visiting friends and we're pleased to have found this warm and relaxed place to stay. The staff was welcoming and helpful, the room comfortable, with a good breakfast cooked each morning. It was a good place to relax. It is located near the university which could be a plus - the students can be a bit noisy on a Friday and Sarurday […] night. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Lovely staff, very helpful and supportive. Amazing place. Would definitely recommend to everybody!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Mysigt familjeägt Bed & breakfast"
Mysigt, kändes som att komma hem till en familj att bo där. Helt okey frukost, dock inget överdåd. Rent, dock heltäckningsmatta i sovrummet.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Ein Hotel wie ein Zuhause"
Ich fand den Aufenthalt sehr angenehm, zum einen durch die menschliche Nähe zur Rezeption (Anne), die evtl. Fragen und Probleme engagiert und zielstrebig bearbeitete, und zur Küche (Swetlana), die alles tat, um den Frühstückspräferenzen der internationalen Gästen zu entsprechen, zum anderen durch die räumliche Nähe zum Campus und zur Stadt Ames.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Very nice property in a very good location. They provide snacks and a wonderful breakfast. My room 206 was a bit small but very adequate. The people that frequent this place are best treat of all, not you typical Holiday Inn.

I loved the layout of this bed and breakfast. It was very clean and spacious! I like the wifi access and the made to order breakfast. I was in room 201 which was at the top of the stairs. Didn't hear a lot of noise outside my door which I was worried about. The complimentary fruit and snack was a plus. Overall great experience, I will definitely be back!
"Great for Visiting the University"

Perhaps you are a professor, prospective student, returning alumnus, or business person visiting the nearby university. You could stay in some corporate and soul-less entity at the edge of town, or you could pick this former fraternity house for your stay. I recommend that you choose the latter. The Iowa House Hotel is a short walk from campus and the many restaurants there. The rooms are odd shaped, but are comfortable, clean, and well decorated. The common areas are stately and well suited for leisure time with a professional journal or prospectus. Breakfast is a well proportioned feast, although service can run a bit slow if you are in a rush. You car will enjoy copious parking in the rear. There is no fitness center or pool, but you should go for a walk to campus anyhow. I heartily recommend this hotel.
"Adorable Bed & Breakfast"

We traveled to Ames to actually search for apartments before moving there this fall. We stayed one night at the Iowa House and it was an excellent experience. It's is nicely decorated to make you feel as if you're staying at a family member's house. The room we stayed in was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. I found it a little strange that the attendant left every night, but it makes sense and they provide you with a door code so you can still come and go as you please. It was mostly quiet, however, we could hear people coming up and down the stairs (our room was right off of the staircase, however). The complimentary breakfast the next morning was excellent. There were so many options - eggs, toast, fruit, muffins. Overall, it was a pleasant, affordable experience and a really nice change of pace from the common hotel.
"Not for business travel"

It is a very nice place, although metal doors to the rooms are a little weird. Not great for business though. No decent restaurants nearby (I didn't have a car). Breakfast was ok but they are specific that you can't rush it (again not great for business). To be honest, i only booked here because I couldn't find an available (and decent) hotel. My bed was also REALLY soft -- hurt my back. If you love B&Bs, I'm sure this is fine.
"Charming Oasis in a Big University Campus"
04/25/14 Samsarah714 Rhinelander, Wisconsin
We stayed three nights in this B&B/boutique hotel and were utterly charmed. The place had originally been a frat house, and has been renovated several times over, so it has modern amenities but retains the elegance and charm of an earlier era. Our room was large, quite light with windows on two walls, comfortable furniture for lounging, a writing desk, a large wardrobe. The tiled bathroom had a jacuzzi. Breakfast was sumptuous, with a chef on hand to prepare eggs or whatever just how you wanted them. Snacks were offered for later in the day. The kitchen isn't highly gluten-aware, though, and ran out of gluten-free offerings over the weekend. The big plus and big drawback is the location -- you're very close to the campus, and that's nice, and also close to a great park for walking. But since Veishea Days were cancelled while we were there, the students had nothing to do except raise hell, and they did it on that street, all night. BUT, the Iowa House had the foresight and wisdom to provide a NOISE machine, right by the bed. We turned it up (Waterfall) and slept just fine. I would really recommend this place -- so much more pleasant than the usual chain motels we've stayed at in Ames!
"Can't wait to go back..."
04/14/14 Kristi F Iowa City, Iowa
Never having stayed at a B&B before, I was a bit anxious about our visit. The Iowa House Hotel was warm, inviting, comfy and relaxing. We stayed there on a recent visit and truly enjoyed it. The beds were very comfortable, the room was clean, the decor of the whole house was upscale yet homey. The parking lot looked like there were a lot of guests, but it felt like we were the only ones there...very quiet. Breakfast was delicious and even had gluten-free options for my daughter. We will definitely be staying there again.

I stayed here for a job interview at ISU and I couldn't really relax and enjoy the hotel, but it was very clean and comfortable. Good location, too--not far from campus. I would happily stay here again, given the opportunity.
"Great for business travelers"

I have stayed at Iowa House twice, and will stay again. The location is pleasant, in the area of the campus. The rooms are clean and well appointed; the wireless works great, and the breakfasts are outstanding. I'll stay again.
"The place to stay in Ames"
03/10/14 Tenorvibe Rochester, Minnesota
I just stayed two nights at The Iowa House in Ames. This is a wonderful B&B. The beds were so comfortable. The best part is the breakfast! We had Eggs Benedict on Sunday morning, divine. I will be making excuses to come to Ames and stay there again.
