"LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
This little hotel has location, location, location! It is less than 5-10 minutes walking distance to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, & Tempolo Adriano. It is about 15-20 minutes from the Coliseum, the Forum, and Vittoria Emmanuelle, around 25-30 minutes from Piazza del Popolo, and a half hour from the Vatican. Seconds away from the main artery Via Del Corso, you can’t get a better location for a more reasonable price. The front desk staff is wonderful and Tomosso in particular will not hesitate to recommend the best restaurants and tell you how to get to all the sites within Rome. He recommended fabulous restaurants and mapped out a walkable itinerary of sites daily for us. If you don’t care to walk, the hop on hop off bus is two minutes away. What really sets this hotel apart is the 5th floor outside deck with a panoramic view which is used for breakfast in the morning and a possible night cap at night. What a way to start and end a day. It was beyond gorgeous and really a delightful highlight to a memorable stay in Rome. The rooms are big enough to accommodate two easily and are clean and neat. The only difficulty I encountered was that I was unable to connect to Wi-Fi but instead used the downstairs computer. Some of the rooms on the upper floors are only accessible by a short stairway which is difficult with heavy luggage. Other than that, our stay was perfect and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Excellent, convenience to airport was essential.
"Would stay there again"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Had a great experience. Our triple room was clean and bed very comfortable, including pillows. 40 inch hd tv with all the sky channels with the options to switch to English language. Filled a form with time and choices for breakfast . Arrived on time and plenty of food. ( Italian style breakfast) . Front desk nice and helpful. Near American embassy, hard rock cafe' , villa borghese park( very nice!) . Would stay there again and reccomand it to friends and family

Room was so small that we could barely walk around the bed and there were no drawers in which to put clothes. The buffet breakfast, however, was outstanding and the location very convenient. Front desk staff could be friendlier. The room was much smaller than the photo for that level of accommodation

Rome’s central train station, Termini is the entry point to the city from Fiumicino Airport, and is an impressive modern architectural sight. Between here and glamorous Via Veneto, there are several interesting places to visit. The Palazzo Barberini is a superb baroque palace, the Terme di Diocleziano was the city’s largest bath complex and the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione is remarkable for its Capuchin monks’ crypt.

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to transportation and places that we wanted to visit. We were pleased with the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness, the well-appointed bath facilities (shower only). It is in the older center of town, so you are not near the "quality" shops. Our room was at the rear and away from […] traffic, but we had to access the free internet in the lobby on our laptop (small inconvenience). Not an exceptional breakfast, but it was a more than adequate continental breakfast. It is walking distance to major historic sites. We stayed here for nine nights and will use this hotel again on return visits. Good value. Read more
"Wonderful hotel"
This was MUCH better than the other hotels in the neighborhood I have stayed in. The bathroom was huge by European standards. An easy walk from the main terminal I would highly recommend this hotel.
"Great Location & Friendly Staff"
I stayed here for two nights with my two young kids (10 & 4). Very close to the train station and very easy to find and there are several places to eat nearby. Breakfast was offered both mornings and was a standard continental breakfast. The rooms were decent size for a European hotel, were very clean, and each room had it's own temperature control. […] The staff I had the pleasure dealing with were very friendly and helpful. I will stay here again next time I am in Rome and would highly recommend it. Read more

"Close to transport but watch out"
Pro Close to metro Easy to get around Affordable Private bath Breakfast Clean Free wifi Close to old Rome Cons Poor customer support Ac not working majority of time Small room compared to other hotels around area Usually I don't write reviews but felt that I should to let people know what they are getting into. As above you need to see if the pros […] outweigh the cons. In the summer months, stay away as it can be agonizing in the rooms. However in late fall or spring it might be acceptable. Proceed with that in mind and you will be well off. Read more
"Convenient To Termini Train Station"
Great location close to the main train station. Manager was very accomodating, and even opened a bottle of wine that I purchased as a courtesy. I would stay at this hotel again. Continental breakfast was the most impressive of the 6 different hotels that I stayed during my recent trip to Italy.

All things considered for a European hotel, it was a good deal for the price. Room was bigger than was expected, clean, and the location close to Termini was extremely convenient, and still within easy walking distance to Coliseum and other sites in Rome.

Loved the hotel very clean and convenient to train and subway one problem is noisy at nite with other guests coming in and out of elevator and going down halls but I loved it!

"staff was rude, but the hotel is convenient"
Front desk people were not friendly, and barely helpful. When we needed help with the AC we were told to "just turn it on". No "Let me send someone up to help" ...just rude. They did get us a driver to the airport, though, and the train station is just two blocks away.
"close to transportation"
This hotel was efficient and certainly not extravagant. The beds were hard but clean. Since it is in an older building, there were some maintenance issues. My husband and daughter were stuck between floors on the elevator-it was quickly remedied and not a major problem, but a safety concern. Clean and close to transportation. Staff at front desk communicated […] well in English. We would stay there again if we couldn't find a cheaper hotel nearby. Read more

"Good Value, Good Service, Great Location!"
- This hotel is a just a few steps away from the Termini train station, making it a very convenient location. It's also within walking distance to many of the top Rome sights (Collesseum is less than a mile away), and we enjoyed eating at the restaurants nearby (which were also better priced than the restaurants closer to the big tourist attractions). - […] Our room was much bigger than expected, and quite nice for its age. Had a very nice balcony overlooking a quaint courtyard, and a working AC unit that kept the room comfortable. - The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the hotel offers free wi-fi, which many of its neighboring hotels did not. - We had an early flight, so we missed breakfast, so I don't know how good it is. - My only complaint is with the comfort of the bed. There was very little padding on it, so it felt like you were sleeping directly on the springs. I've found this to be pretty common in Europe, but it's uncomfortable nonetheless. Read more
"Nice value hotel"
I was very pleased with my six night stay. The hotel location was excellent, only two blocks from the central train station and within easy walking distance of many major attrations. The room was small, typical of European hotels, but was very clean and in excellent condition. The front desk staff spoke English and were very helpful. The breakfast was […] basic, but very good. I will definately stay again. Read more
"hotel contilia"
considering that you can't get much for US dollar in europe these days (we stayed in april 2011) this hotel was acceptable. For qetting to and out of rome it was very convenient . The breakfast was not very good and the beds were a little hard and the towels unusual but everything was clean and everything worked.
"Hotel Contilla- Convenient but uncomfortable"
I should have listened to the people that wrote truthfully about this hotel. First, non working AC in our room. There was an AC alright, saw it, heard it, but didn't feel any cold air. When we requested to transfer to another room, we were told that if we open the window, we should feel some cold air at night. True, but also heard the dog barking in […] the alley below (our room was facing some sort of apt units) and also smelled someone's cooking. Beds are hard and towels are paper thin. They're more of table covers if you ask me. Good luck to the ones who still want to stay here after reading this. Pay extra and stay at a nicer hotel. Only plus, close to the Termini station (5 minutes walk). Breakfast is pitiful. We stayed for 3 nights and we had the same breakfast everyday. Read more
"The world's smallest hotel room."
We could not open the front door fully because our luggage was standing behind the door (no other place to put it). The bathroom was larger than the room. Towels are cotton sheets cut into a towel size, strange. Otherwise, very clean. If you are looking for internet, they do not have it. They say they do, by my MAC computer that never has a problem […] getting online could not even find their network. There is just no internet period. The area is just 2 blocks from the main train station. So, if you are taking the train from the airport into town, it is a great location. Walking distance to the ancient Rome. But the surrounding area is very questionable. Read more
"Great Location"
Nice Hotel, Great Location, few steps from Termini Train Station, close to everything. small room and bathroom, but this is normal in a 2000 years old city if we want to be in the hystoric center, there are newer hotels with bigger rooms for the same price outside the city but those did not work for us, all depends of what is your trip purpose, in our […] case we want to be located in the hystoric center close to the Coliseum, Via dei Fori Imperiali, Palatine Hill, Vatican, etc, you can take the Metro to these places or just walk, we walked and enjoyed the city. The Termini station is about 200 yards from the hotel, we went to Florence and PIsa, but you can move to any place frm there. Don't expect the luxory of an US hotel for you money. Europe is very different from US. Considering the cost of life in Rome this hotel provide good cost-benefit. Certanly we will use it again. Read more
"Hotel Contilia Rome"
Awesome location... minutes from the Roma termini station... lots of restaurants in the proximity, also a nice little supermarket right up the street... very nice , would recomend it to anyone... only complaint is the paper thin bath towels... but not a real big issue...
"Near Train Station"
If you are looking a hotel near the train station to make traveling to and from Rome and around Rome, than this is a place for you. One of the worst beds I have ever slept on. Breakfast was good.

"Impressive hotel at a low price"
I was delighted to have stayed in Hotel Contilia. I've been to Roma 5 times in the past one and a half years and this is the best hotel I've stayed at. The reception area was very nice and the employees were welcoming. There was always somebody at the front desk. My room was VERY clean and a good size for myself (single). It was decorated elegantly […] and I was shocked at the quality of the room based on the price. The bathroom is very small but, but it was very clean, new, and well working. There was construction going on, but the employees were very helpful and no noise disturbed me. The hotel is located conveniently to the train station, which connects you to Trevi Fountain and other attractions within couple stops. If you're looking for a romantic scene outside your window, avoid the Termini area. This hotel is considered 3.5-4 stars by European standards. I've stayed in many hotels while traveling and Hotel Contilia is definitely a nice surprise. This hotel will be my place to stay everytime I come to Roma. Read more
"Hotel Contilia- Convenient for short travels"
Hotel Contilia is conveniently located near Termini with a great price, even for the quality you get. Everything was clean and seemed newly renovated. As for the size, it's really the luck luck of the draw- our room was spacious enough, but our friends who were next door had virtually no walking room. The bathroom was a little tight, but good enough. […] The towels were cotton rather than terry cloth (which was kind of neat), the worst was the bed which was pretty hard, so I wouldn't pick this hotel for an extended stay, and it would probably be more bearable if you had your own pillow, as theirs don't do much for you. Also, we could decently hear our friends in the next room through the bathroom vent. Breakfast was a very simple continental breakfast spread - cereals, pastries, ham and cheese, Nutella and jams, coffee, juice and water. Read more
"Recommend if on a budget"
The front desk help (except for one grumpy older man) and breakfast service help were friendly and willing to do whatever they could for us. However, we witnessed another customer not so fortunate. The continental breakfast was ok, nothing super great. Our room smelled like a sewer the 2 days were stayed there. The shower was really small, but I guess […] they are made for the much smaller Europians than the larger Americans. We would have liked more counter space in the bathroom to put our things. The towels were like scratchy sheets. The pillows were really flat and the bed was hard. However, we were so tired we didn't really care. The hotel is really close to the termini, so that was a plus. This hotel is poorly maintained otherwise can be a good one with reasonable location close to Termini train & Bus Station which makes it easy to get around. The air conditioning in our room was totally ineffective and nothing was done about it despite complaining. Had to keep windows open all night. Also the mixer taps in the bathroom are either too […] hot or too cold - not a proper mixture. Towels are flimsy, not of good quality although had new clean towels & bed sheets everyday. Would class this hotel no more than 2 star. There are plenty of hotels around this area and would suggest hotel to west or southwest of Termini station. There is a train Leonardo Express to & from Fumicino Airport and there is also a regular bus shuttle from Termini station (north side) to airport and costs only 8 Euros each which is very convenient and reasonable. "Hotel Contilia in Rome, Italy- close to the metro"
Great location and good service. It worked for us.
"Better off somewhere else"
Pros: Close to train station and tourist sites, quiet, decent breakfast Cons: Hard beds, skimpy towels, sheets and pillows, moldy shower curtain, sparse and dingy room that felt like a college dorm, front desk staff not helpful, free wi-fi but no free internet terminal. I don't expect a lot from hotels in Europe, but every other 3 star hotel I have […] stayed in throughout the continent has been better than this one. Read more
"Great if you want to be close to train station"
Our main objective was to be close to the train station upon return from southern Italy then back to U.S. Hotel was clean and staff was very helpful with taxi to airport. Very close to train station. Room was very nice for the four of us- not large but beds very comfortable, room to move around a bit and large bathroom. (Bring own hair dryer!) Breakfast […] was included and was typical European breakfast which was fine with us as we are use to that. Some Americans may find it wanting. Not in the greatest section of town. We stayed closer to the Vatican when we were in Rome earlier to see the sights but we don't mind hopping on the metro to get places. This is closer to sites in main part of city. Read more
"Hotel Contilia in Rome - a wonderful experience"
The staff and the quality of the accommodations made our stay in Rome a very pleasant one. We arrived early and they had our room ready within a half hour even though normal check-in time was several hours later. The hotel is clean and the neighborhood has a lot of shops and good restaurants. We enjoyed the experience and would gladly stay at this hotel […] the next time we're in Rome. Read more

"Very Good Experience in All Respects"
This hotel is a very good bargain in all respects. The price was quite reasonable, the room was clean and adequately-sized by European standards, the staff was quite helpful and friendly with both casual requests (where to eat) and more difficult ones (lost luggage problem), the breakfast was adequate, and the location was great (how can you go wrong […] with a train and subway station named Termini within a couple of short blocks?) "good room and great location"
The hotel was fine. Typical of European hotels. The location was great. We we able to walk or take the subway everywhere we needed to go. In the bathroom the shower only could be used by hand. a little odd.
"decent hotel in a convienent location"
the hotel itself is in good shape, my room was good sized although the bathroom was tiny. this is common in europe, but if you are a larger person, this could be an issue. the towels are more of a sheet than an actual american style towel, but they are clean and replaced daily. the shower curtain had some mildew which was bothersome since it was impossible […] to shower without it rubbing against you. there was a hair on one of the pillows when i checked in. the lobby is nice, the breakfast is good. the staff is friendly. the neighborhood looks worse than it really is. it looks kind of beat up, but this is europe, even nice buildings look old and dreary on the outside. all in all a decent value. really close to the train station , like a five min walk, decent nearby restaurants and ample internet cafes in the area. "Decent room in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood"
This hotel is conveniently close to the main Rome train station, but as such is in a kind of sketchy part of town. Overall though the streets were well lit and I didn't feel unsafe walking back to the hotel at night. The room was not very large, though it was clean. We had a window overlooking an interior courtyard, so we didn't have any road noise. […] However, someone in the courtyard complex was doing construction, which started at 8am on saturday morning. When we stayed the streets around the area were torn up but we didn't have any noise from that work. The wireless is free but required a password and you had to log in each time you connected. I was using an iPhone and had problems accessing certain sites and getting my email using the wireless connection. The bathroom was spacious but the water pressure was kind of weak and the temperature constantly fluctuated. Overall though this was a reasonable hotel to stay in. Read more
"great location"
Hotel was quiet, clean, and the staff was excellant.VERY HELPFUL. Breakfast was good for Italian standards.
"Slightly more than adequate"
Better room than expected, good price for the location. If all you want to do is have a place to sleep, this is a comfortable option. Great staff and great bfast.
"Great location - close to Termini"
I booked this hotel for a stop-over between a light evening arrival into FCO and a morning train departure from Roma Termini. Hotel Contilia is perfect for this purpose, but would also be a convenient hotel to base a short Rome visit. It is 1-2 blocks to Termini. Rooms and bath are reasonably appointed; space is typical for Rome, my room was spotlessly […] clean. There are numerous restaurants very close to the hotel that are open well into the evening and are moderately priced (~12 euro for a pizza and a half liter of Vino della Casa - that's living!) "Nice hotel"
Convenient location. Nice staff. Breakfast OK. No clothes iron available.
"Economical Hotel"
Staff was very helpful. About a three block walk to metro. Two blocks to train station for easy access to train to FCO airport. Room small, shower smal, AC worked very good. If you are on a budget it is a reasonable place to stay.
"Our stay at Hotel Contilia"
The hotel was extremely convenient for the train station and accessible to the sights of Rome. We have only two comments to make; the shower was very slow to drain and could have overflowed, and the bed mattress was very hard preventing my wife from getting any sleep. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable stay.
