I want to preface this by saying that I am an extremely easy going person and usually give things good rating. Basically, I'm a good customer and easy to please and yet the hotel was a disappointment. While the price we booked it at was very good this was not taking into account the $30 PER NIGHT parking charges + tips for the valet when you need the […] car! The room good but I requested a room on a upper floor to get a nice view and we could hardly even see out because our room was basically back in a narrow corridor. The most annoying part of the hotel is that they don't have microwaves in every room. I can understand that for a small mom and pop type of place but seriously Marriott, you're too cheap to put a microwave in the room?! The entire hotel only had one in the lobby so you have to go all the way down to the bottom floor just to heat up your left overs. The food at the hotel restaurant was pretty bad.... I got a brownie and my husband had a burger. I didn't even eat mine and he said the burger was very disappointing. The room was very clean but we were on a romantic wekend and didn't want to be disturbed so when the maid knocked we yelled 'No thank you" several times yet she still walked in on us! (partially our fault for forgetting the do not disturbe sign)The main selling point of this hotel is the location but there are a ton of other major hotels in the vicinity. Next time we'll be staying at the Embassy... better rooms, a pool, and breakfast included. Read more

I used to live in Portland and love visiting often. Wanted a hotel close to an event was attending and this was perfect. I've eaten at the restaurant often, great food, and the room was just fine. The only complaint I had was trying to find the valet attended when checking in, had to go inside to find him. Otherwise great hotel.

We found this to be a very pleasing hotel and we will use it again. Overall there were no big negatives. You should be aware that they characterize themselves as a boutique hotel, which is a different type of hotel from the larger Marriott's we are all familiar with. I have the impression that they rennovated and older downtown hotel. So there are certain […] things that are abbreviated like, no gift shop, simple dining area. But all the services are there. We thought they did a very nice job in the interior decoration of the room which is quite modern. The downtown location carries added security where; e.g., the elevators will only move if you have a room key card room to activate the button panel. Two important warnings: the front entrance is very minimal and we drove right by it the first time at night, and valet-only parking is $30 a night. You can actually park anywhere on the street free after 7:00p until I think 9a the next morning (double check that), Their dining area is very nice, serves good food with good staff. We also highly recommend "Mother's" restaurant a few blocks away for breakfast and probably other meals too. Read more

Stayed a night here during a weekend visit to Portland. Great central location. Walk in any direction and you have many options for restaurants and shopping. If walking gets tiring, buses stop near the hotel or you can board the light rail. The hotel staff was friendly and provided recommendations for places to eat/visit. The room was extremely small. What I'd expect in New York or Paris. It was also rather noisy from the street and since the restaurant/bar in the hotel is open until 4AM, we were woken at 4 by very loud groups of people going back to their rooms. I would only recommend this hotel to people who want to be very central and go out late at night. Very up to date styling. It appears that Marriot renovated an old office building into a sleek hotel. My room was very clean and comfortable with plenty of room to move around. We booked the hotel expecting a pool. However, there was no pool or pool access. Nevertheless, the hotel was very nicely appointed with trendy furnishings. The staff was top notch. My only criticisms were: 1) in place of the normal 2-3 trash cans found in a hotel room, there was one strange recycling (?) bin under the bathroom sink. 2) The mini fridge […] was located inside a sealed cabinet- essentially requiring the fridge to run constantly. Anyone who knows the first thing about refrigeration or has ever purchased a fridge and read the manual knows that ventilation is required for the heat transfer to occur. I shudder to think about how many hundreds of mini-fridges are humming away inside of sealed compartments as I write this review. Not even placing the 'green' placard on my door knob (informing the room cleaners to skip my room for the day in order to save water) or using the strange multi-purpose bin under the bathroom sink would have had the slightest effect on the massive carbon footprint these poorly installed appliances are stomping out 24-7. The hotel is located in the city center and is within 1/2 a block of the green line. That said we walked pretty much everywhere making this hotel a great decision if you want to stretch your legs. The room was clean, the staff was friendly (even if not knowledgeable) and the elevator was secure requiring your room key to activate.

Great location and good for pets. There are several trees right out the front door. :) It was my first time to Portland, single female traveler with dog, and there were plenty of places to explore on foot. The hotel staff were very friendly, remembering my dog's name and saying hi each time we passed through the lobby. The attached restaurant, The Original […] Dinerant, is very nice too, with creative appetizers and cold beer on tap. The wine selection is a little poor however. The hotel room was clean and nicely appointed, although I could hear the people above me talking while I was in my bathroom. That's a little unnerving. The hotel is green and they have signs you can put on your door to eliminate waste by not having your room cleaned. It's a noble plan and I'm happy to use my towels more than once, but it would have been nice to at least have my bed freshly made. All in all a good experience. Read more

Boyfriend and I have never been to Portland and went for one night. The location is perfect - very close to Voodoo Doughnuts and Powell's. The Marriott was less than a mile to every attraction we wanted to see. Perfect! Everything was clean and the staff was helpful. The only thing that I found a bit annoying is that you have to pay an additional $30 for valet parking..with no option to park yourself. But the valet drivers were very quick.

My stay at the marriot was extremely enjoyable. The hotel room was very well furnished and the view of the streets below was as good as you are going to get in that part of town (which isn't to say that the view was good but that's hardly the hotel's fault). The restaurant in the building was very nice too, with courteous staff and decent food.

By choosing this hotel you are taking a few risks. While we were there for 4 nights over the New Year we were checked out on New Years day and informed of this when we asked for more toilet paper, when we had the reservation for a couple more days. They didn't have an explanation for why except sometimes this happens with the service...Also I was charged […] $120 for valet when I didn't have a car. When I asked about it they said not to worry because it had already been paid, too bad it had been paid with MY credit card. When we had settled it and they went to remove it it still showed a charge of $60. They said not to worry about it because it SHOULD say $0. I informed them of course it should say $0 because I don't owe anything, but I'm still being charged $60. We finally got a manager over to return the money. I would think I just had a bad experience but our friends also had a room and even though they had reservations they were told they couldn't stay only the night of New Years Eve. After calling and calling they made other plans. Then about 7:00pm on New Years Eve they received a call from the hotel asking since they had not checked in if they could sell their room. The room they had been trying to get all week. When they declined the room since they had made other plans they were then charged for it at the end of their visit. Therefore this is a great location to be in for Portland, but keep an eye on what you are charged for. Read more
