we stayed their only one night before being able to check into a vacation home, but enjoyed the great location, ability to have the full suite and extra room. The grounds are just beautiful and walking distrance to the beach

Bike paths but no bike rentals nearby. Quiet, clean upscale area. Beware of timeshare pitches. Great place for golf ears, but somewhat removed from beaches.

We enjoyed our stay. The room did not have air conditioning so we were dependent on the ocean breeze which sometimes was non existant. Portable fans did help a little. The room was comfortable but would prefer a room with Air Conditioning. A little more detail needs to be given to cleaning, dust was hanging off the bedroom cieling fan which we cleaned ourselves. We have stayed at Pono Kai before and have always enjoyed our stay. Location is great! We would stay there again. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
"Great Value"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 25, 2013
We were very pleased with our 3 night stay here. The area is perfect for walking and the resort has a beautiful pool area. The king bed was comfortable and we loved our stay there. We had a nice balcony with a view of the ocean where we ate our breakfast meals. We used the spa area as well and enjoyed it. We weren't sure if it would be nice because the price was lower than most other places but found it to be a great value. We hope to come back and stay there again.
"Great location on the island."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 25, 2013
Fabulous ocean front room, huge...kids loved it. They were disappointed they couldn't have tubes in the pool. Nice location in between Poipu and Princeville so it was easy to go either way for activities. Staff was very accommodating.

"Great value"
Raced from Oahu to Kauai with the Kauai channel race so the hotel was perfectly located near Nawiliwili Harbor. Staff could not have been any more pleasant or helpful. Concur with other reviewers that the second floor is quieter than the first but has no lanai. First floor rooms have a slider with a small patio. Either way expect to wake early because […] the entire island is covered with roosters and hens. Would recommend for being a good value. Excellent experience without the resort prices. "stained sheets and rude staff"
The sheets on one of the beds was stained with blood. The sheet was clean however, but they still put that back on a bed in a hotel. Disgraceful and cheap. Hotel staff said not to use the laundry after 9pm as a courtesy to the guests with rooms near them. But honestly the ac units were so loud id be surprised if you heard a fire alarm over it. On our […] last night we had our swimming suits in the laundry at 8:30, when we went to get change to pay for the drier, which costs 25cents for 3 minutes, the woman behind the desk said that they shut off the laundry and was extremely rude. She said it was "too bad" and that there'd be no way we could dry our cloths. I babysat our drier to see how many minutes I could get in, but it didn't appear that she'd actually pull the plug. She just wanted to be nasty. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel for anyone"
The Kauai Inn was outstanding in all respects. The staff was very friendly, the room was very clean and comfortable, the grounds beautifully kept, the breakfast loaded with fruit and goodies (and excellent coffee), and the area is private, away from the hussle and bussle of the Marriott Inn. You have a short, easy walk to the beach, shopping and restaurants […] (and Duke's!) and then can escape the other tourists when you return home. The refrigerator and microwave are descent sized so you can easy prepare meals in your room to save a little money. I highly recommend this lovely hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Not fancy or updated to resort standards, rooms do not have granite this and travertine that. but I still loved it. Very clean, Staff very nice and helpful. "Oldest Inn on Kauai"
While this is the oldest inn on the island the service is not. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They are more then willing to go out of there way to help make your stay as enjoyable as possible. I wish I'd realized earlier that they also have lots of coolers, beach toys (snorkels, mats, boogie boards), etc. to loan out. The room was very nice, […] comfortable bed and plenty of storage space for luggage. Would definitely stay there again if in the area. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not bad for an overnight"
It appears that this place might be half hotel/half apartment complex. It had a very hostel feel to it. The front desk was very nice and friendly when we checked in. The breakfast spread was very nice and good quality. The location was a bit out of the way but easy enough to find. Some of the surrounding area is industrial factories which is a bit odd, […] but the other side is all beautiful cliffs. The noise level inside the actual hotel was quiet but it is right next to a public park where the locals decided there was no quiet time and were drinking and talking loudly til well after midnight. We didnt get any sleep as the noise carried so much it was as if they were next store. Price was fair. Pool was a big run down but kept at a good temperature. Parking was easy and convenient. Great spot. Amazing staff. We needed an extra day before we could check in to our expensive resort. We wished we had booked our whole week at Kauai Inn. Great complimentary breakfast. Staff loaned us beach towels, 3 boogie boards and Kauai guide book....4 free. At our new hotel, that costs us over $45 a day. Staff couldn't be nicer. AlohaGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"An overnight stay"
Wasn't expecting much considering the price was low and the location. We arrived later in the evening and needed a place to stay for the night. We made it in time before the office closed at 9:00ish. It was a little challenging finding the inn. We thought we took a wrong turn when we wound up in an industrial type area, but low and behold, after driving […] over the one lane bridge, the inn seemed to appear like Vegas in the desert. After checking in by nine (they do wait for late arrivals if you have reservations), we went to our room. The room was decent, and the bathroom was large. We even had a little backdoor patio that led into an enclosed lawn area. A continental breakfast was included. It does open at 8:00am and is done at about 9:30am. If you want an early start, you will miss the breakfast. All in all, we found the inn to be quiet, clean and relaxing. For a quick, cheap one night stay, I would recommend this hotel. "Value and Aloha at the Kauai Inn!"
Kauai Inn is a wonderful, reasonably-priced base from which to explore the area. This is an older-style hotel, but well maintained. Kauai Inn is tucked away in a residential area near the small-boat marina and the cruise-ship port in Nawiliwili area of Lihu'e, so we had a bit of difficulty locating it, at first. Once we found it and settled in, we discovered […] that the location is quite convenient, if you have a car. It is very quiet in the evening, but we noticed some sightseeing helicopters flying over during the day. The included continental breakfast of coffee, tea, fruit punch, assorted fresh fruits, muffins, bagels and breads was a good start to the day. Our room had a small refrigerator, microwave, cutting board, which were convenient for preparation of picnic items, or snacks, but not really for cooking. Nice pool, too. The whole place is very relaxed-- reminds me of going on family vacations in the 60's. It's a very short drive to Costco, Longs' Drugs, Big K, and there are many restaurants nearby. The staff was so welcoming and kind, and the room was very, very clean. Also, free parking and no resort fee! If you are realistic in your expectations, you will appreciate the good value and aloha found at the Kauai Inn. We would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Satisfied the needs of our trip!"
Small hotel with moderate to small rooms. Clean, safe, and peaceful. Good deal for those looking to save some money for other activities. Good location to explore both southern and northern island locations. No beach to conveniently walk to, no spa, and the pool is small and shallow. The pool and pool area are clean. The hotel maintains the grounds […] very well, lots of beautiful trees and flowering plants. Park located just outside the hotel stays very active especially later in the evening, but all in good fun! Customer service and housekeeping is just OK. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A fortunate choice"
An excellent choice for someone who values quiet, comfort and cleanliness and uses a hotel mostly for sleeping. This is not a luxury hotel but it offers the above-mentioned attributes, a substantial breakfast, a pool, a coke machine, and laundry facilities. The location is somewhat secluded (desirably so) but also very near satisfactory restaurants, […] shopping areas, a Starbucks, and the main roads heading north and south. It is conveniently located for exploring the island because it's about equidistant between the farthest reaching points north and south. For the money, this is a good deal. I will definitely book a room there if i return to Kauai. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Kaui Inn Stay"
For the price, location and the staff I gave this hotel a five. The staff was so awesome! Anything we needed they were more then happy to help with. The breakfast was fresh and good. The grounds were beautiful. My only complaint was my bed. A bit to soft for me due to having a big husband and I am small. It seemed I was rolled into a taco every night. […] =) And please people, the roosters are everywhere. Dont feed them and encourage them to stay close to the hotel. The guy below us would feed them every morning just outside our window at 5am. Grrrrr...... one morning my husband went down to chase it off. lol It worked for an hour. I felt right at home the minute we checked in. Very happy with it and will be back. This off the beaten track motel is quite near the harbor shipyard and therefore quite noisy. The King lanai rooms are small as well as the lanais. Hard to block outside light at night. "Kauai Inn - convenient, reasonably priced."
Very satisfied in all categories. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The included breakfast was very good. The hotel is very close to the Lihue Airport and the local Costco, as well as many local shops and restaurants, all within a 10-minute drive. It does not have a shuttle to the airport (like all but one of the other hotels), but you […] will need to rent a car anyway if you are going to explore the island at all. We initially had a first-floor room with a lanai, but the latch on the door to the lanai was broken, making one of the two locks inoperable (the door still locks, but less secure). When we brought it to the attention of the front desk person, Sandy, she immediately went with us to check out other rooms, and we were happy with the second additional room that we saw. No lanai, but on the second floor and, as a consequence, larger. We stayed for 5 nights without feeling cramped. Keep in mind that the room doors are operated with keys, not electronic keycards, but we didn't have any problem while we were there. Sandy also warned us that the strength of the wireless signal may not be strong enough to reach the rooms, but we are welcome to use our computer in the common area outside the office or use their public PC in the office; however, we found that we could get a signal in our room, and got on the internet without problems (albeit a little slow). The fridge and the microwave in the room were very convenient. They also offered the use of their towels, mats, and chairs if you were going to the beach. As long as you return them in good condition, as we did, I'm sure they will continue this tradition. My wife wants me to add her review with the following points: 1. The pool is very small. 2. No workout room. 3. She was initially disappointed that it was not on the beach (this may have been a miscommunication on my part), but, as she told me on the third day, "it (the hotel) grew on me." "Good value w/free breakfast.."
We were in Lihuie overnite before we went to a condo in Poipu - so it was just a quick stay. It was confusing to get there in the dark so I was happy we had GPS. The property was pretty with lovely landscaping and has 4 separate buildings with a pool in the center. The complimentary breakfast was good with: fresh fruits, toast/muffins/bagels, muffins/breads, […] juice and lots of good coffee. I would say that it is a good value and would reccomend it if you can do without having a new property with fancy frills. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Absolutely loved calling this place home!"
This hotel is FANTASTIC! I am so glad that I stumbled upon it. My mom and I stayed here for four nights while we explored all areas of the island and it was a great place to call home. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. There was a nice setup of coffee, juice, fruit, muffins, and bagels every morning. The pool and courtyard area was clean […] and inviting. Our room was small, but had everything we needed. Bathroom was large for a hotel and had large, thick towels. Bed was comfy. The only thing that disappointed me was that the WiFi wasn't free. Had to purchase a monthly Boingo account (thankfully for a low price) to get online, but it was worth it compared to the price some hotels charge. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone visiting Kauai in the future. Really great find! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Loved this hotel."
Cozy, non-resorty, old-school motel an easy drive from everything. Lovely free breakfast out by the pool every morning, helpful staff, and free loans of everything from boogie boards to sand-castle buckets and shovels. The roosters are loud pre-dawn, but I think that's true all over the island. Just a lovely, lovely place.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Pleasant, no frills, nice energy"
A very nice hotel and stay experience overall. Location is very easy to get to and go to other areas of Kauai. 2 things kept my experience from being great: A little noisy from other room voices and plumbing. Secondly, I wasn't told about there being knives and utensils available to use. Rooms have fridge, microwave, and cutting board but no utensils. […] They are evidently available, but at the time I didn't know and didn't think to ask (my fault). Staff was very friendly with warm smiles. Can't beat that! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"We will return"
We loved staying at the Kauai Inn and will return. The friendly staff, availability of staff, and their willingness to help where needed was great. We also enjoyed the ambiance of breakfast and being able to mingle with the other guests during this time which is something we didn't get while staying at a high priced resort on Maui. Though some might […] not like the location being near industry and the port, we actually liked the ease of getting there and being away from heavy traffic, and even liked the neighborhood setting. Our shower head didn't work well the first morning but they fixed it that day when we reported it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
