This place was amazing! The food went way beyond expectation. I'm vegan and I'm used to fruit salad and black coffee for breakfast so I was over the moon when I was getting open faced breakfast sandwiches and PANCAKES!!! The rooms were beautiful and the grounds are spacious. Chincoteague island is like 10 minutes away.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a lovely stay. The pluses include a beautiful room with a terrific hot tub, and a nicely furnished guest common area. Pretty grounds and a warm hostess welcome were pluses as well.Meals were superb. Things to watch. Be prepared to invest driving time to see Chincoteague since there is really nothing to see within walking distance.. Also, the […] attic room is not suitable for most adult couples. We were lucky to be able to upgrade after arrivals since otherwise the low ceilings would have made the room unpleasant. Probably just right for kids. Overall a good value and we will likely go back. "very nice B&B. Great owner, staff and food."
Place had been upgraded since last time we were there and they were going to do even more. Owner was very nice as was the staff. Food was great. Had some new dishes and nice twists on old favorites. This will be my choice of place to stay when we return to the area. PS Great value!Genuine Expedia guest review
We had a very plesant stay. It was between the Virginia side and Maryland side of Chincoteague. Perfect location for us. Michelle, one of the staff members was more then helpful and very pleasant. Also a wealth of information about the area. The room was clean, had an old fashioned bathtub, small fridge. A separate building had snacks for guests (homemade […] cookies, yum) amung other selections, a small stove, dinner ware and a fridge. They also had a BBQ and a built in pool, a zen garden. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. We stayed four nights and had a different breakfast each day. The only down side was that it is not within walking distance to a town center for shops or resturants. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Garden and the Sea B&B was amazing! Dorothee and Thomas made us feel at home immediately. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful and relaxing, there is a great pool Our room was perfect, we stayed in the attic room, it was clean, cozy and comfortable. The bathroom was across the hall, it was clean, had a huge claw foot tub and everything else you need. […] The homemade breakfast was scrumptious. Dorothee was able to give us many great recommendations for food and activities. The B&B is located very conveniently to great sites, and convenient shopping. I highly recommend Garden and the Sea B&B, and we can't wait to go back! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A great place for a vacation."
Doro was out working in the yard when I arrived, Thomas came out to meet me in the gravel parking lot. Friendly folks. I asked for breakfast a bit earlier than they're used to. I asked for a vegan breakfast. They accommodated me in both cases -- deliciously in the second case. The room is very B&B which hurts my head a bit, but if Victorian chairs, […] flowery wallpaper, and doilies are you thing, then this place is your dream. Nice common area with games, books, DVDs, sodas, & snacks, but I stayed in my room. No desk (though a small cafe table did the job), not many power outlets, and generally not a good place for business. The WiFi wasn't bad, but the 19" CRT TV didn't suit my needs. Of course, if you're there on vacation with family, you probably wont mind it. However the room was nice, with a cozy gas fireplace, and a comfortable wicker sleigh bed. In nice weather you could sit in the many comfortable chairs on the porches, under the trees, or by the pool. It was cold and rainy when I stayed. Next time I'm in town, hopefully I'll get to experience the B&B's charm a bit more. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed in the Chantilly Room for two nights. The room was very nice. Definitely not the room for you if you can't climb into a deep tub (also the shower). It does state that on the website. The Inn is about 20 minutes from Chincoteague, so be aware that there is nothing nearby. They are dog friendly, too! Loved the port and the snacks provided in […] the Garden House. We did not use the pool, but it looked very nice. We will visit here again because we love Chincoteague. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lovely B&B with great hosts, wonderful breakfast!"
The owners and employees are wonderful - friendly and helpful without being overbearing, and they have gone out of their way to everything to help their guests enjoy their stays. Breakfast was great. It was also very nice to be able to make tea and coffee and then enjoy it with the cookies and other snacks provided when we wished. In general, there […] were so many thoughtful conveniences provided, including towels for the pool and beach (and pets if relevant), cold bottled water any time, and helpful tips re: restaurant and entertainment options. For us, the only negatives related to the bathroom water and shower facility. The water, particularly from the sink, had a pronounced 'old metal' smell strong enough that it lingered briefly on your skin, and the rather small claw footed tub fitted with an add-on shower fixture and clingy plastic all-around shower curtain made for a less than ideal shower experience. Just mentioning this in case it would also be a concern for other travelers, but it might not be troubling at all to some guests and also may not be true for all rooms. We stayed in the Nelson room. "A classy place."
The new owners are very hospitable and friendly. Breakfasts were quite good. We greatly enjoyed our stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
My husband and I took a quick long weekend trip to Chincoteague and stayed at this B&B. It was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast and I loved it! The owners were very attentive, and cooked absolutely delicious meals! Information was easy to get regarding beaches, restaurants, and things to do. While they allow dogs to stay, you would have […] never guessed as there was no "dog smells" and only occasionally did you hear a dog bark. The rooms were large and had plenty of space to spread out. Each room had its own bathroom, and while they were definitely older, they were in working condition and very clean. Beaches were about 20 minutes away, but it's an easy drive and definitely worth saving a few hundred dollars to not stay "beach front." There isn't much around the B&B so plan on driving about 20 minutes to get to anything (restaurants, things to do, etc.), which was the only disadvantage to staying here! We loved it! "Great B&B - would stay there again"
We stayed 3 nights. The presentation was very good and the owners are very friendly and helpful. It is in a good location - close to the highway and visitors centre for Virginia and Maryland but not right on the main road. Beautiful large garden with pool to relax in. The fully cooked breakfasts were very good indeeed. My only problem was the shower […] over the bath in our room (room called Nelson). I would not recommend that room for elderly people as the bath is a high, narrow claw bath and so getting out is a bit difficult. Other rooms probably had a different shower set up. Highly recommended. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Man spricht Deutsch. Wir würden gerne jederzeit wiederkommen.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

My husband and I were visiting friends on the Eastern Shore and stayed her for a week. During that time, he was diagnosed with pneumonia and was very sick. Dorothy and her staff were incredibly kind and caring. The surroundings were peaceful and restful aside from being well kept and beautiful. We have never stayed at a more beautiful place. Definitely a keeper.

We had a wonderful stay here....it was great being able to take our dog on a vacation. The breakfasts were very well prepared with great attention paid to detail. The location is wonderful to get to Chincoteague and Assateague. All the recommendations for dog friendly activities -- beach, boat, restaurants are spot on! We had a great time in Berlin MD, coolest little town in America this year. We attended the bathtub races and our dog was sitting at the table outside with us. I would recommend to anyone looking to visit this area....this is much better than a hotel, and the pool is beautiful even though we didn't have time to use it!

My wife and I loved our stay here. Thomas and Doro are very gracious hosts and the breakfasts are to die for! Our dog also had a great time and loved the boat trip. The room was comfy and spacious and the pool very relaxing.

We picked this B&B because it was pet friendly. It was truly the most friendly B&B I have ever stayed in. Despite the fact that the dog was with us we all were made to feel welcome. The rooms were gorgeous. The breakfasts were delicious. The owners were friendly and knowledgeable about the location. It was such a relaxing weekend! We will certainly go back!
"A for Ambiance and Attitude"

We booked the Shiraz suite several month ahead as we were bringing our dog and this suite comes with a fenced yard. (A prior review indicated that the fence might not be high enough for a large dog, but we thought it was perfect for our yellow lab.) The entire property is so attractive and well cared for. It is not only visually appealing due to flower beds, but provides wonderful access for walking the perimeter and paths throughout (w/ or w/out a dog). We called ahead as instructed and were permitted a slightly earlier check in. Dorothee was there to meet us and provide a tour of the property. Actually, throughout our stay, she seemed to be everywhere and is obviously extremely hard working, not to mention a fabulous cook. The main house where we had breakfast each AM is beautifully appointed in antiques. Breakfasts were lavish with a scrumptious, plated entree and a buffet including 3 juices, homemade yoghurt, cereals, granola, fresh cut up fruit and a variety of baked goods. Kai provided plenty of coffee and friendly service with a smile. Our suite was so spacious with separate living room including table/chairs where we ate our carry in. There is a good sized ref in the room, but no ice. The fenced yard had 2 chairs and a table where we could sit w/drinks and snacks while our dog played outside. The closet was large enough to fit a single bed and the bath was enormous. Having 2 sinks and a separate jetted soaking tub and shower was a luxury. Lighting was ample throughout and the bed was soooo comfortable. There is a special cloth for make up removal and special towels for wiping the dog as well as towels for the beach or lovely pool on premises. Having access to cold beverages, snacks (including homemade cookies) and port in the evenings was a real bonus. It was fun to browse the library and the well stocked local attraction brochures. Even when fully booked we were hardly aware that others were on the property, so there is definitely a feeling of calm and quiet.
"Peaceful B & B"

Dorothee and Tom were wonderful hosts. The food was ample, delicious and with beautiful presentation. Chincoteague is a short drive away (15-20 min). Staying here got you back to peace and quiet, away from the more crowded town of Chinoteague (note we were there July 4th weekend and it was packed on the 5th). We took the 21/2 hour boat tour suggested by Dorothee (Daisey Boat Tours) and it was wonderful! Rooms were exceptionally clean and the mini kitchen in the common area was well stocked with water, tea (iced and hot), sherry, snacks and homemade cookies!!. Although we did not use it the pool is a definite plus, clean-always quiet, beautiful and peaceful. The grounds in general are beautiful, natural and serene. Bushes could use some cutting back. But all in all well kept. Please note that what you pay here is worth the extra drive time to get to Chincoteague and it's beach. Also, if you bring your dog you will need to drive up 113 (40 min) to the Maryland Assateague Island south beach as the VA side (Chincoteague) does not allow pets. Thank you Tom and Dorothee for a wonderful stay! Suggestions thicken the homemade yogurt. Spray some Pam or WD40 on the squeaky door entering the screened porch. (5am wake up due do neighbors walking the dog). A hot tub by the pool would be a great addition!

We very much enjoyed our stay ... the room was lovely and spacious; Doro was very kind as she showed us around the property and the buildings. Breakfasts were different (for us) yet delicious. We were not disturbed by other guests (we stayed in the Chardonnay room). Doro recommended the Krusty Krab for dinner ... awesome place if you like "hole in the wall" dining ! Overall a great weekend visit.

Just a wonderful experience! Dorothee is a great host and cook! The food is just wonderful. Breakfast will hold you till dinner. We enjoyed every moment, and loved talking with Dorothee. Another trip is definitely planned.
"Victorian-style gem with excellent value"

This was our first stay at the Garden and Sea Inn, and we will definitely be back! If you are looking for a place that is within walking distance of Chincoteague or other Eastern Shore attractions, this isn't the place for you. But if you want excellent value in a quiet setting and don't mind driving a few minutes to get to area attractions, don't pass this up. The house is charming, filled with beautiful antiques that the photos can't do justice to. The entire place is immaculately clean, especially for a pet-friendly inn. Our room was comfortable with all of the modern amenities (free wifi, TV, a/c, etc.) alongside the old-world charm. We loved having the whirlpool tub, too! Garden and Sea Inn provides excellent value for money to begin with, and the extra details like fresh-baked goodies and homemade tea make it feel even more worthwhile. The breakfast is delicious and just the right size portions so that you don't feel stuffed and sluggish starting your day (or guilty leaving food behind), but there is a buffet with extras for those with a larger appetite. The gardens are beautiful and we can't wait to get back and use the pool next time. Doro is a welcoming and accommodating hostess without being overly friendly or intrusive. She gave us some excellent restaurant recommendations and was available when we needed her, but we didn't feel like we were tripping over anyone else at the inn. Go. You don't be disappointed.
"Great B&B -- with customized breakfast!"
05/29/14 Twizzard Ridgecrest, California
We were a bit surprised to find out how tiny a town New Church is -- but it is close to lots of places, within easy range of shopping, NASA's Wallops Island visitor center (neat place) and Chincoteague Island. Everything was immaculate. We stayed in the Chardonnay Room. The rooms were large, and the bathroom not only was large, but had both a nice shower and a jacuzzi tub. When the innkeeper found out that I could not have a breakfast that was high in sugar, she made me a custom omelet instead of the french toast that the other guests enjoyed. Normally, omelets are not my favorite breakfast, but the one created at the Garden and Sea Inn was superb. Maybe it was the goat cheese, maybe it was expertize and seasoning. This was the very best omelet I have ever experienced -- by far. My wife loved the Victorian charm; we both loved the warm reception. If they had a fitness center, we did not see it -- but we would not have used it anyway.
