This place was amazing! The food went way beyond expectation. I'm vegan and I'm used to fruit salad and black coffee for breakfast so I was over the moon when I was getting open faced breakfast sandwiches and PANCAKES!!! The rooms were beautiful and the grounds are spacious. Chincoteague island is like 10 minutes away.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a lovely stay. The pluses include a beautiful room with a terrific hot tub, and a nicely furnished guest common area. Pretty grounds and a warm hostess welcome were pluses as well.Meals were superb. Things to watch. Be prepared to invest driving time to see Chincoteague since there is really nothing to see within walking distance.. Also, the […] attic room is not suitable for most adult couples. We were lucky to be able to upgrade after arrivals since otherwise the low ceilings would have made the room unpleasant. Probably just right for kids. Overall a good value and we will likely go back. "very nice B&B. Great owner, staff and food."
Place had been upgraded since last time we were there and they were going to do even more. Owner was very nice as was the staff. Food was great. Had some new dishes and nice twists on old favorites. This will be my choice of place to stay when we return to the area. PS Great value!Genuine Expedia guest review
We had a very plesant stay. It was between the Virginia side and Maryland side of Chincoteague. Perfect location for us. Michelle, one of the staff members was more then helpful and very pleasant. Also a wealth of information about the area. The room was clean, had an old fashioned bathtub, small fridge. A separate building had snacks for guests (homemade […] cookies, yum) amung other selections, a small stove, dinner ware and a fridge. They also had a BBQ and a built in pool, a zen garden. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. We stayed four nights and had a different breakfast each day. The only down side was that it is not within walking distance to a town center for shops or resturants. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Garden and the Sea B&B was amazing! Dorothee and Thomas made us feel at home immediately. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful and relaxing, there is a great pool Our room was perfect, we stayed in the attic room, it was clean, cozy and comfortable. The bathroom was across the hall, it was clean, had a huge claw foot tub and everything else you need. […] The homemade breakfast was scrumptious. Dorothee was able to give us many great recommendations for food and activities. The B&B is located very conveniently to great sites, and convenient shopping. I highly recommend Garden and the Sea B&B, and we can't wait to go back! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A great place for a vacation."
Doro was out working in the yard when I arrived, Thomas came out to meet me in the gravel parking lot. Friendly folks. I asked for breakfast a bit earlier than they're used to. I asked for a vegan breakfast. They accommodated me in both cases -- deliciously in the second case. The room is very B&B which hurts my head a bit, but if Victorian chairs, […] flowery wallpaper, and doilies are you thing, then this place is your dream. Nice common area with games, books, DVDs, sodas, & snacks, but I stayed in my room. No desk (though a small cafe table did the job), not many power outlets, and generally not a good place for business. The WiFi wasn't bad, but the 19" CRT TV didn't suit my needs. Of course, if you're there on vacation with family, you probably wont mind it. However the room was nice, with a cozy gas fireplace, and a comfortable wicker sleigh bed. In nice weather you could sit in the many comfortable chairs on the porches, under the trees, or by the pool. It was cold and rainy when I stayed. Next time I'm in town, hopefully I'll get to experience the B&B's charm a bit more. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed in the Chantilly Room for two nights. The room was very nice. Definitely not the room for you if you can't climb into a deep tub (also the shower). It does state that on the website. The Inn is about 20 minutes from Chincoteague, so be aware that there is nothing nearby. They are dog friendly, too! Loved the port and the snacks provided in […] the Garden House. We did not use the pool, but it looked very nice. We will visit here again because we love Chincoteague. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lovely B&B with great hosts, wonderful breakfast!"
The owners and employees are wonderful - friendly and helpful without being overbearing, and they have gone out of their way to everything to help their guests enjoy their stays. Breakfast was great. It was also very nice to be able to make tea and coffee and then enjoy it with the cookies and other snacks provided when we wished. In general, there […] were so many thoughtful conveniences provided, including towels for the pool and beach (and pets if relevant), cold bottled water any time, and helpful tips re: restaurant and entertainment options. For us, the only negatives related to the bathroom water and shower facility. The water, particularly from the sink, had a pronounced 'old metal' smell strong enough that it lingered briefly on your skin, and the rather small claw footed tub fitted with an add-on shower fixture and clingy plastic all-around shower curtain made for a less than ideal shower experience. Just mentioning this in case it would also be a concern for other travelers, but it might not be troubling at all to some guests and also may not be true for all rooms. We stayed in the Nelson room. "Great B&B - would stay there again"
We stayed 3 nights. The presentation was very good and the owners are very friendly and helpful. It is in a good location - close to the highway and visitors centre for Virginia and Maryland but not right on the main road. Beautiful large garden with pool to relax in. The fully cooked breakfasts were very good indeeed. My only problem was the shower […] over the bath in our room (room called Nelson). I would not recommend that room for elderly people as the bath is a high, narrow claw bath and so getting out is a bit difficult. Other rooms probably had a different shower set up. Highly recommended. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Man spricht Deutsch. Wir würden gerne jederzeit wiederkommen.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Private, clean, new renovations, family, worth it"

My girlfriend booked one night with a gift card we received and we decided to get the room with the largest jacuzzi! Wow!! The grounds and rooms were immaculate, the staff was friends, the breakfast was wonderful (they accommodated well for my girlfriend who is a vegetarian). The only thing that was lacking was the amount of time we were able to stay! Next time it will be two days minimum!!
"Tons of Charm and Warm Hospitality"

For those visiting Chincoteague, this B&B is an excellent choice. Although not on the island, it is in close proximity so remains very convenient in terms of location. Not being on the island it is also a bit more relaxing as it is away from the hustle and bustle of summer crowds. The home, circa 1802, abounds with charm. The rooms are nicely appointed and spacious and the property is large with many places to relax. We stayed in the Nelson Room which was very nice, but had the opportunity to poke our heads into some of the others. If you don't want to climb stairs, the Chardonnay Room on the ground floor of the main house is lovely. Also, the Merlot room on the second floor is to the rear of the house, where it may be a bit more restful as you will not hear sounds from the road, not that that was a problem for us. Doro and her staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating. Breakfasts were very good. We would happily stay here again.
"Gourmet breakfast - pleasant staff - nice accommodations"

Tasty and gourmet breakfast , attentive & friendly staff who were willing to offer us advice about what to do in the area, house is nice and grounds are landscaped very nicely. The surrounding housing is a bit run down but the 5 acres of the Inn is quite pleasant.
"Love this place!"

We had been looking for a place to stay for one night over Labor Day Wkend. Rooms were booked well into MD. Dorothee was kind enough to let us stay for the night in the lighthouse room. The accomidations were very nice. Room clean and bed comfortable. She suggested places to eat and things to do. We live at the beach a few hrs away so seafood wasn't on our menu but we were. Able to fine a nice Asian place not too faraway. Breakfast was wonderful. I wish there would have Ben more baked good by the time we ate(9:15). The coffe was strong but good. The salmon Benedict rocked! If you have dogs then this is the place to go. Plenty of large breed dogs here. The barking at 8am was a bit much, but I'm a dog owner so I know how they are sometimes. Only complaint was the non existent shower curtain...it would have made showering less messy. Overall, we loved our stay!
"Can't say enough!"

My stay at the Garden and Sea Inn was the first time I have ever stayed at a Bed and Breakfast and I can say with certainty that it will be extremely difficult for any other bed and breakfast to even come close to this bed and breakfast! The gardens were beautiful and peaceful. Dorthee and the staff were so welcoming....theytreated us as if they had always known us! We stayed in the Nelson Room and was extremely pleased. It was comfortable, clean and the furnishings were wonderful. The breakfasts were to die for! Dorthee is such a wonderful cook! You will be pleasantly surprised and very pleased if you stay here. We will be back hopefully for many years to come.
"The Best Surprise We Discovered On Our Spontaneous Adventure!"
In a moment of spontaneous excitement, my family and boyfriend and I decided to take a trip to the Chesapeake Bay and beach areas. We found that last minute rooms were hard to find but thanks to the owner Dorthee, who had one room left and further, a room that literally fit our needs *perfectly* (not to mention the prices were above fantastic for what you receive in return) we were able to get on the road and head out to the St Charles/Chincoteague/& Assateague areas and begin what was an absolutely stunning weekend of relaxation and fun. What's most notable about this BnB (though each & every one of these things make it a unique diamond in the rough) is not its stunning history & architecture; not it's unique location somewhat central to various joy spots on the eastern shore; not even it's outrageously amazing breakfast and accommodations but instead the intense involvement and investment of Dorthee and Thomas, as well as their staff, in engaging each guest as unique and individualized, with such a vast knowledge of the best places to visit and such a welcoming and loving embrace for each guest - it is THIS that makes the Garden and Sea Inn one of the best hidden treasures we have ever been so lucky to discover. I told someone recently that when I review places and I experience any issues, I try to talk about the positive things first before mentioning the negative. In this case however, I simply have nothing negative to say. We were valued guests before we even arrived and long after we left and every excursion we participated in at Dorthee's suggestion (such as a visit down to St Charles, horseback riding in Kings Creek, and Chincoteague beach locations to utilize) along with every restaurant she pointed us towards (The Crusty Crab Seafood Shack in all it's "hole-in-the-wall glory and probably the best meal we had all weekend outside the Inn) was spot on. We left the Garden and Sea Inn with heavy hearts - not because of negative experiences but because we had truly come to feel like members of the Inn's family, all thanks to people like Dorthee and Kai (who helped managed our morning breakfasts and was a special gift to our adventure thanks to her amazing demeanor, obvious investment in making our stay the best it could be, and the time she have to us as a means of ensuring the best experience possible while visiting). We *will* be back to this BnB and it will be with excitement and joy that we head there. This is a beautifully maintained property with management that sees each guest as a valued gift and that rare quality is one my family and I will simply NEVER forget. This is a "Can't Miss" lodging accommodation and we cannot wait to return. <3
"A little slice of heaven!"

After reading the reviews my husband and I decided to stay here and take our dog, a yellow lab, with us. The B&B is very picturesque and has a welcoming feel to it. We stayed in the Sandpiper room which was beautifully decorated and had a spacious bathroom. The property offers privacy, a pool, walking trail, BBQ area, lots of outdoor places to sit and relax, and some unexpected yummy treats for all guests including the 4 legged ones . We will definitely return and if you are looking for great charm combined with modern amenities then this is the place for you. Dorothy, Tom and the rest of the staff are wonderful, knowledgeable and will make your stay very enjoyable.
"7th Year at The Garden and Sea Inn"
09/01/14 Shecky_11 Gaithersburg, Maryland
My sister and I truly enjoyed our stay as this was the best time we spent at this B & B. We can't say enough about the accommodations, such as improved bathroom plumbing fixtures, cleaner-tasting water, and scrumptious breakfasts, particularly the French Toast. After our 3-hr. canoe trip on the Pocomoke River, we relaxed in the G and S Inn's pool. Doro, the innkeeper, and her assistant, Lori (ably filling in for Michelle, who was on leave), were quite hospitable. Even my dog, Mason, seemed to have enjoyed himself. We hope to happily return for our 8th stay at the Garden and Sea Inn.
"A little slice of heaven"
This B&B is great for a few days of relaxation and comfort. Dorothy and the staff were great. The breakfast offerings were delicious and fresh. The pool and common areas very comfortable. I will definitely be coming back to this B&B.
"Comforting Good Old Hospitality"

Dorothee and her staff were enthusiastically welcoming and truly caring of our needs. The Champagne Room was spacious, the bed very comfortable and had a wonderful bathtub for two. Home made breakfasts carefully prepared by Dorothee were something to look forward to. We enjoyed our days driving on to the beach from Chincoteague to Assateague Island and then returning to the Inn in the evenings to enjoy a night cap sitting on the porch of the Garden House. A good energy stay.
