The hotel and grounds are beautiful but the language barrier makes it very frustrating when you are there to relax. We had to ask to have our room cleaned twice at 5 and 6 pm. The are is very nice and the hotel grounds are groomed and manicured to perfection. However, the rooms (even the newest parts) have some ware and tear (i.e. rusted bathroom fixtures, eroded lamp covers, chipped wood on some of the room fixtures) I think most of the ware is from the sea salt in the air eroding things inside the room. Obviously this will […] totally happen. In regards to the service, the staff is not very helpful. They don't speak English very well (in some cases they don't understand anything at all) and each person at the concierge was not friendly at all. It could have possibly been because of the language barrier, but you can immediately sense the attitude and demeanor of annoyed customer service provider. We had one day at the main pool and we had to constantly ask for service. We had to find towels, grab a waiter to order food, grab another waiter to bring us utensils, grab another person to bring us sides for the food we ordered, and the list goes on. When you pay for 5 star resort the only thing you should ever have to get up is to jump in the pool. It was very disappointing and we only laid out on the property once during our entire 5 day stay. The small pool near the castle is substantially better but not many people waiting on you, but my husband and I were okay with this due to better view and the quiet adult only type atmosphere that was there. We stayed in a honeymoon suite in the castle. The room has 2 chairs and a couch as well as an additional chair near the king size bed. It also has a walk in closet with ample storage as well as a safe. The bathroom offers a tub and separate shower. There are 2 sliding glass doors that lead out to the "balcony". One sliding glass door is next to the […] bed and the other comes off the living area. Both doors are very large and almost bring the outdoors inside. The balcony had an amazing view of the ocean while the private plunge pool water temperature was a little on the chilly side. Our room got cleaned in the early afternoon every day and at night sometime around 8 or 9 the mini bar would get filled as well as turn down service on the bed. These services were convenient as we spent most of the day by the pool and our evenings at dinner followed by drinks at the Love Bar. Food overall was Ok, nothing too spectacular. Bartenders across the resort do not skimp on liquor in your cup. Everyone on staff was extremely friendly and by the end of your stay they recognize you and acknowledge it. If travels ever lead us to the Dominican Republic in the future staying at Sanctuary will be on our minds for sure. Read more

To qualify my review: I travel over 240 days a year (business and pleasure) so I get to see a lot of hotels -both the good and the bad…sometimes hellish. Additionally, I spend a lot of time in the Caribbean. The hotel was quite unique, diverse, with different styles, categories, and amenities across the various rooms especially when considering the […] actual small number of rooms. We had a “beachfront Jr suite.” While we liked the room, it was actually a pool-front Jr. suite - not on the beach. Was not happy about that bit of confusion. As it turns out, we were actually happy with the location of the room. But it was still a misrepresentation. Against my better judgment, we opted for the all-inclusive package when we arrived at the hotel. I find hotels that offer this option generally have poor quality from a food, drink and service standpoint. I am glad we did. I found the quality of all of the above to be on par or better than other Caribbean 5 star resorts. In general, the room and hotel was in great condition though there were minor signs of disrepair. Not really that uncommon in the Caribbean, so it is a minor gripe. The service was excellent. The staff all remembered your name and preferences for food and drinks. This was quite nice. The resort was quiet and relaxed which is what we were looking for. It is definitely not a party scene. Overall, I believe this to be a good resort at a great value. We would definitely return. My husband and I recently went on our honeymoon at Sanctuary Cap Cana. October was a nice time to visit because the hotel was practically empty and we felt that we received personalized attention. We had originally booked an ocean view junior suite, but upon check-in, we were escorted to a room that was not clean. The staff were very attentive and […] promptly reassigned us to the same type of room in a more centralized location, near the pool. Though this room was clean and centrally located, we preferred the privacy of the original room. After talking with the front desk staff, we were upgraded to a private, 1 bedroom villa for no extra charge, which we were thrilled with. While the food at Sanctuary is excellent, I was disappointed that there wasn't more fresh seafood. One of the reasons we enjoy vacationing in the Dominican Republic is because of the delicious local cuisine and some of the freshest seafood you can get. We just didn't find this at Sanctuary, and this may have been the case due to how empty the resort was and the fact that they only opened one restaurant per night. Two of our close friends treated us to a dinner on the beach during one of the nights we stayed at Sanctuary, which was an excellent experience and one we would highly recommend. We came here for a mini 4 day, 3 night honeymoon and had a fabulous time. The room we booked wasn't available due to renovations but they upgraded US to a villa with a walk out onto a private beach! The view was amazing! We ordered room service for breakfast and lunch which were both great. The pools were really nice and the whole resort wa s like being […] in a mini village with all the villas and hotel rooms. I'd HIGHLY recommend eating at the Steak House; the onion rings were the best we've ever had and the steaks were perfectly cooked. We also spent a morning at the spa and would recommend it as well; the women were very friendly and professional. If you are looking for excursions, talk to the guy from the Blue Company, he wears a shirt with the word Blue on it so you can't miss him. He is extremely helpful, professional, and just great to work with. The few negatives were that we had a bad experience with the concierge when we first arrived, our air conditioner leaked water onto the floor, and the beaches aren't the ideal of other Caribbean islands. The way the beach works is it pushes a lot of seaweed debris onto the beach and the first 3-5 feet of water is murky with sand. It's not the resorts fault or from lack of effort (we watched them sweep the beach every day we we're there), it's just how that area of land and sea work together. Overall, we'd go back. Read more

The resort is beautiful - the architecture, the gardens, the pools and the fact that it is Adult Only. These items are exceptional! But, as is typical in Caribbean All-Inclusives, the food is average and recycled but I did enjoy the Steakhouse. The service is inconsistent. One example would be the poolside service at the Ocean Bar. One day, the service […] is constant. The bartender brings you a new drink as soon you finish. The next day, the bartender never once comes out to serve you (you walk to the bar to get your drinks). I'm not lazy, but they should pick a level of service and stick with it. Requesting items for my room was tedious, mostly due to the language barriers. Once I translated it from English to Spanish on my computer for them, my request was finally fulfilled, but it took 12 hours. I suggest taking an English to Spanish translator. Free internet in your room and WiFi in some spots. Beachfront Junior Suite was great and I highly recommend it. TV had a lot of channels BUT disappointed that you couldn't watch it in bed. Not happy with the small beach because the water was always cloudy close to land and they don't regularly clean up the seaweed, which started to smell rotten after 4 days. The beaches that flank the resort are beautiful to walk on, but there are no services (chairs, towels, bars) on these beaches. Be skeptical of other sites that are loaded with great reviews due to kickbacks (upgrades, etc.) from SSCC. This includes their FB page. Read more
