"Great for price"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
I stay here every time I visit Plattsburgh, its clean and the staff is incredibly friendly. This place is pet friendly and they treated my dog as well as they treated me. Does smell of smoke since some rooms are smoking but other than I have nothing negative to say. Absolutely recommend this hotel.

The staff was friendly and helpful. My room was clean and stocked but my friends room was not. The staff was very willing to remedy the situation. Pricing was great for this room. The bed was uncomfortable though. I really enjoyed the fact that this was a pet friendly hotel, even with larger dogs. I would stay again.

"Love the Suite!"
Hotel was just what we needed! The suite was great, with a full kitchen, living room and bedroom! The closet in the bedroom was bigger than ALL of the closets in my entire house! We will stay here again and will definitely recommend to others! Thanks Handy Suites!

"Don't plan on a good nights sleep"
I was shocked at how decent the rooms were considering the price of the hotel. The room was comfy, large, and clean. They definitely need to do some repairs, the handle on the toilet was broke, the light switch on the bedroom lamp was broke, the heater registers were all rust, and there was dark brown splatter all over the back of the bathroom door. […] The downside of this hotel, it is noisy. The first night i was there i was woke up at 11pm by a loud banging outside my window, turned out to be a glider bench someone was rocking so hard the legs were slmming of the asphalt. The next night i was woken up at 5am by barking and howling dogs!! When i finally called the front desk the lady sound annoyed that i called. She was also working the front desk when my friends and i checked in and was extremely rude to my friend who is hearing impaired. Beware! This place allows dogs, so i reccomend a different place if you don't have pets of your own. My friends were also woken up by barking and howling dogs at 1am! The walls are very thin, and you can hear everything here. On the other hand, it was very cheap. Read more
"Service service service"
My young son wears glasses. As we took the first step onto the elevator the fell off. And of course the lens popped out and again of course it fell down the elevator shaft. Within the hour his lens was sitting on the table. The room needed a paint job but other than that we couldnt have been happier.
"very satisfied"
Very reasonably priced, even though I did book early which made it definitely worth the price! Very pleasant interactions.
"Can't Say Enough!"
What a great place! Huge suite with a nice kitchen, fridge, granite counters and a dishwasher (who wasn't ME). Bathroom was roomy and very clean. The pool with the waterslide was a hit with our 7-year-old daughter. Nice bagel cafe across the street for morning coffee and pastries, and lots of shopping within a 10 mile radius. Staff was very freindly […] and helpful! Don't go anywhere else if you are in the Burlington area...stay here! Read more

We stayed at handy suits last year our son has wrestling meets and the states are held in Essex. So its very close to the school. The kids love the pool. And the room's are very large. The pull out couch isn't very comfortable they could use updating but for the price I would recommend it to others.
"Clean but lacked simple amenities"
We found this hotel close to Burlington and convenient to my son's college. Was disappointed with the amenities in the room. My son slept on the sleeper sofa and only had one blanket, no extra pillows. There were no spoons in the kitchen and scant dishes. The hotel breakfast was terrible but the bagel place across the road was excellent. The night clerk […] was friendly but the morning person gave me the impression she had better things to do besides check us out. Read more
"Handy Suites - Essex Jnct near Burlington"
Quiet, clean, nicely maintained, and very reasonably priced. It is about 10 minutes drive from downtown Burlinton and UVM. My suite was huge, with a full kitchen (even a dishwasher!). Free continental breakfast was pretty basic, but if I wanted a fancy breakfast, I'd go to a restaurant. Free cable internet in the room.
"Cheap place to stay if you need 2 rooms"
Good place to stay if you need a room separated from living space by a door - eg little kiddos who go to bed earlier than you do. The room above us was very loud pretty much all night long. It sounded like people were running around up there. Luckily we travel with a sound machine and that drowned out a good proportion of the noise. There is also a […] very strange/seedy vibe at the hotel. It kind of feels a little bit like a brothel with the late night noise and clientele. A lot of single men seem to stay there as well as a few travelers and people with kids. If you are looking for an affordable place to stay for a couple of nights it's ok... bring a sound machine! If you are easily sketched out by certain things stay somewhere else. Read more

"Handy Suites - Essex Junction, VT"
Needed to find an inexpensive alternative to the Sheraton for a UVM orientation. This hotel was half the "special UVM rate" at the Sheraton. For the price, this was an excellent value. One of the biggest rooms I've ever stayed at. Similar in size to a small apartment! Very clean and quiet.
I love this hotel.. you can't beat the price and the location is great. I love staying in a mini apartment instead of a room with just two beds. Also my kids had a blast in the pool with the slide and I would over all recommend this hotel if you are going to Burlington!
"Great deal, especially if you have kids"
We stayed at the Handy Suites in Essex March 2-4, 2012 with our two young children. They had a ball playing in the pool. The amount of space we had was more than enough. There was a full, eat-in kitchen, large living room and big bedroom with walk-in closet. The kids slept on the pull-out couch in the living room. The bed wasn't very comfortable but […] the kids didn't seem to mind it. The bed in the bedroom was fine. The pool could use some renovation. The areas where the metal came together around the pool were rusty and there weren't any signs about the depth of the water. Even so, the kids had a wonderful time and our whole experience there was well worth the price. Read more
"great hotel for the price!"
The suite was big with full sized appliances. The kids LOVED the pool with water slide & the breakfast was sufficient for us (especially since it was free)! I would definitely stay there again.

"Amazingly Spacious And Affordable"
The first thing that struck me at this place was the size of the rooms. These things are large and spacious. They're furnished a bit on the cheap side, but considering the price of this place, it still ends up being an impressive value. Beds were comfortable and we slept well. And the fact that they allow dogs on specific floors is a huge asset. One […] slight complaint: the floors are not well insulated against sound. We were able to hear our downstairs neighbors playing video games until well past midnight, and they weren't being terribly noisy. The sound just carried through too easily. The walls didn't seem to have this issue. Read more
"Better bring your own cooking utensils & Cheer"
I've stayed at this hotel before. Every room is a "suite" so every room has a kitchenette. However, every room is very limited in its stock of dishes, silverware and cookware. The owner escorted me to her stockroom the first time we stayed. The second time, last week, the owner was gone and a younger girl left in charge (not the friendly russian girl). […] She was a very unhappy camper because we arrived late, around 2am. She didn't get the door for us, wasn't very friendly but got the job done? There were no frying pans in the room and I always make breakfast before a ski outting. She went to the stock room and got a couple pots. Would not deliver them to the room. And sent us down to fetch them. To then find out there were no pans, just pots. Called her up again and she says no other open rooms in the entire hotel have any, she checked. Ya, okay. Long story short, if you plan to make food, bring your own essentials. Good cheap place to stay if you like making your own breakfast before you head out. Bring frying pans. And don't call them directly, just book thru hotels.com Read more
"First Time at Handy Suites Essex"
I arrived right about check in time (3:00). The woman working in the office was very RUDE. She would barely speak to me, rolled her eyes, mumbled when she talked, and talked so low I couldn't hear her. I had two more interactions with her. When I called to ask for sheets and blankets for the fold out couch she told me that the sheet was already on it. […] I was in the room looking at the bed and there was NO sheets. She grunted in the phone, then hung up on me. The day staff was was friendly and accomodating. The pool was fun for the kids! The room was ok, but not overly clean. The bathroom was clean, but there was a couple of things under the bed that I don't want to imagine what they were from. Over all it was fair for the price, I would go back with the kids! Read more
"Handy Suites - Great Values"
My family stayed here for the Christmas Holiday and our stay was perfect. The suites were CLEAN and large and the kitchen was stocked for all our cooking needs. All the staff was attentive and friendly. The indoor pool was a pleasant bonus and lots of fun for our grandson. The location was convenient for area travel - close to the interstate. Would […] definitely stay again. Dec. 2011 Read more
"a great stay for the cost"
for the money this is the best place to stay in the state
"If you want back problems stay at the Handy"
The bed which is not a queen is very uncomfortable and I woke up with a neckache. I slept on the pullout the following night and let me tell you, that thing is pretty much springs wrapped in cloth. The closet smelled like cat urine, but the water slide made all my troubles go away lol.
"Great pool for the kids"
Hotel was clean and staff was great. While rooms are getting a bit dated, the pool made up for the old TVs. The kids loved the waterslide and spent hours in the pool. Walls were a bit thin, but nothing we couldnt deal with.

very pleased with everything about Handy's hotels
I thought the hotel was a very nice place !!!Only thing was there was cops that were called n then the next morning at 8 a.m the fire alarms went off i had no idea what was goin on when i called the front desk nobody was there!! i have a 3 yr old son so if the place was actually on fire!!!!we would have not known what was happenin they need to figure […] out a set up for the fire system!!!!!!Im glad the place wasnt on fire but next ttime they need somebody to let everyone no what is goin on find out all the staff went outside n left all of us to find out by or self what to do.... I reallly enjoyed this place. We are a family of four, and it was perfect for us, although the pool was broken for a few days, so we did not get to use it. We had our own seperate bedroom from the kids, while they slept on the sofabed. Our bedroom and closet were huge, kitchen was a decent size and the bathroom was also a good size. My only complaint […] would be the bed and pillows......just not that comfy. I would definatley stay there again. You can't beat the price! Also, we were there thanksgiving weekend, and room service left us some dessert which my kids chowed on. Read more

"More than expected"
This hotel was more than we expected for the price. It had a nice big bathroom, a huge bedroom with a huge closet, a living room, and a kitchen with fridge, stove, sink, microwave. All for the price of a room. It was clean and just perfect. We will definitely recommend the Handy Suites to our friends and will stay again.

The place is immaculately clean, reasonably comfortable, and the price is excellent. The Handy Suite is my first choice.

"Handy Suites Essex - very nice and affordable"
I stay at this hotel whenever I come to Vermont. Aside from very friendly and helpful staff, the rooms are clean and enormous - kitchen and living room combo, and private bedroom. And it is convenient to shopping, downtown Burlington. It is a terrific value.
"Handy Suites Susie Wilson Rd"
People who worked there were very nice, though having desk clerks or others eating and visiting behind the desk seemed a bit unprofessional and was a common occurrence. Tub, all fixtures could not have been cleaner, but maintenance not being kept up on what looked to be inexpensive (not robust enough for hotel use) furniture to begin with. Curtain rod […] was trying hard to fall off the wall in the LR, bureau drawers difficult to open and close, etc. Huge closets, but had to ask for hangers as we had none. Great size room, in-room safe, and marvelous price for suite with full kitchen (which was also very clean). Just don't expect anything fancy. Heard people above us scraping chairs along floor at 6:00 a.m. both mornings. Breakfast was sweet rolls, bananas, coffee - pretty minimal, and the desk clerk was responsible for restocking breakfast while manning the desk. Didn't use the indoor pool, but it looked like it would be fun w/ a slide. Read more
"Handy Suites in Essex"
This hotel had a great price and location. I have stayed in several hotels in the burlington area and this was definitely one of the better values. It is just a short ride to downtown Burlington and very close to I-89. The only complaint I had was that receptionist did not know any breakfast places, she recommended Dennys or a bagel place across the […] street. I do not prefer chains so I was able to find a fantastic breakfast place called Penny Cluse Cafe on Cherry St downtown. Read more
We stayed here for one night but, what a great night! The hotel staff were pleasant and friendly. Our room was extremely clean and super comfortable. If we are ever in the area again, we will absolutely be staying here again!
"Great place"
This place is perhaps the nicest motel I have ever stayed in. The rates were reasonable....the staff was friendly and helpful.... the room was spacious, well maintained and comfortable. The location was convenient, quiet and safe. I have stayed in a lot of different motels over the years and this particular motel was and is by far the nicest.
"Decently priced good hotel - close to Burlington"
We stayed in this hotel from 10/25-10/29 during our visit to Vermont. The hotel is closer to I-89 exit 15 (even though Google maps says exit 12). Likes: 1. Very very decently priced hotel. 2. Staff very friendly and courteous 3. Room looked old (hotel built in 2004) but was very comfortable and clean. 4. Safe neighborhood and close to all the attractions […] in downtown Burlington. 5. Has a kitchenette which helped us a lot as we were with our 10 month old baby. Not too many utensils provided. Only the bare minimum with no Paper towels. We were carrying some utensils so was not an issue. The grocery store, Shaws (by car) and Rite Aid (walking dist) is close by. 6. Has an indoor heated pool. The pool is a little deep for kids(6ft) if they want to play in the water and don't know swimming. Water temp was good but water tasted a little funky too me. 7. Breakfast included. Not a great spread. Cannot complain for the price I was paying. Still good to kick start the day with Bananas, Bread (toast) , muffins, coffee and orange juice. There is an excellent Bakery and Cafe right across the street. In short, if you are looking for a decently priced with average expectations and a kitchenette, I would highly recommend this hotel. I would definitely stay here again. Read more
