Our first impressions of this hotel were not good ones - tacky decor, unfriendly receptionist, disappointing facilities - and it went downhill from there. Our request to check in a bit early so we could get ready for a wedding being held at the hotel (our entire reason for booking a room) was not only denied, but handled in a terribly rude manner. When […] we finally did check in (after having to hastily change in a public bathroom a few minutes before the ceremony), the room we were given was large but dowdy and old fashioned, and definitely not worth the exorbitant price we paid. The housekeeping staff - and all their accoutrements - seemed to be permanently parked right outside our door. But at least they were friendly. Billed as a resort. Grounds are beautiful, but they have no access to lake. Outside of main building needs lots of work- it is crumbling. Our room in the main building had no air conditioning and you couldn't open the window but a crack. It was very hot in room- not even a fan. The room was comfortable, clean and spacious. The plaid carpet was a nice touch without being tacky. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The conversations were very short and to the point so I found I had to ask more questions then normal to get all the information I needed but they were very willing to answer questions and gave helpful responses. The […] hotel grounds were pretty and well kept. It was a very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. There isn't a whole lot to do at night in that area but the adjoining lounge had activities each night (trivia, live music etc) if you wanted to get out of your room. We had trouble accessing the internet while we were there (very slow, dropped connection). The staff was aware of the issue and working on it but we didn't have anything urgent to do so we didn't pursue it. Overall it had a nice location, good breakfast, good staff, and nice rooms. Receptionist was really rude...there was also building work around and on the hotel as it was being revamped... That was not expressed prior to our stay... Will never stay there again... And strongly recommend no one dies... Also no Internet! And no reception... Complete disaster

We travelled to the forest hills hotel for an overnight stay in February. At the moment, the hotel is undergoing building work and has scaffolding on both the front and rear of the hotel, although we didn't actually see any work being done (we stayed on a Friday night). The reception area is nice, but once up to the corridor, the decor is tired and […] the same can be said of the room decor. I believe there are rooms that have been redecorated and I believe these are charged out at a higher rate. Leisure facilities are good with a separate building housing a pool, sauna, steam room, gym and spa, all of which were modern and seemed fairly recently installed. We ate dinner in The Rafters restaurant, which was very good, with attentive, friendly staff and good food. The hotel is in a lovely area and is in a prime position overlooking the loch, but could do with a little bit more tlc. Read more

Beautiful car journey driving to Hotel. Scenery breathtaking! Hotel is perfect for quiet getting away from it all break. Warming log fire adds to the relaxing atmosphere.We had a room on ground floor which was large with huge bed! No reception for mobile phone all the better.Hope to return in the future for a real chill out experience.

My single room was very clean but relatively small. One REALLY annoying thing which seems REALLY petty is that the tv in my room just had completely random tv channels. I know it sounds stupid but it took ages even to find bbc1, it just seems someone flicked through the sky box and randomly saved any channels they could find>bizarre! Anyway the standard […] is pretty good with a very good gym. My main bug bear was the cost of eating in the MAIN restaurant. The main menu did not display prices (alarm bells) ,but stupidly i had a 330ml of coke,goat cheese salad for starter and pork for main (exactly described-the pork was about 3"x2" square,a dollop of posh mashed potato,half a carrot and one small floret of broccoli) for this they charged £38.Annoyingly there is a bistro next to the swimming pool which offers bar food for half the price and is of an equal standard (only my opinion!) Sat Nav had some difficulty finding the hotel but once there, we totally enjoyed the experience. Clean and comfortable room, excellent food and first class service. Well worth a return visit. Especially pleased at the seclusion of the hotel and VERY impressed with the gymn/pool/sauna/steam room complex

After reading some of the reviews we arrived with some trepadation,however we were pleasantly surprised.There are areas with scaffolding erected but certainly not every where and it was not intrusive to where we were staying in the hotel. would not rate as a 4 star as is at present covered in scaffolding and this should be declared before booking. Rooms are in need of revamp.Be prepared for shock drink prices. Excellent location with beautiful views of Loch Ard. A little remote so advisable to go by car or hire a car to get around. Spa and facilities very good. Staff and restaurant food very good. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Friendly welcome from reception staff, great room with a lovely view. We enjoyed using the spa and and our meal in the bar was fab, really gd atmosphere. Lots to do, with the watersports across the road and gorgeous scenery- we will definitely be back:)

Beautiful setting on Loch Ard, a real room with a view . Leisure facilities good and meal at Rafters was lovely. Breakfast could have been better - teenage son still hungry ! All staff were very friendly and helpful.

Clearly being situated in the National Park means the hotel and surrounding area has pretty much no mobile phone coverage and consequently, I was very diasappointed at the telephone rates charged, £1.00 for just over one minute, plus an extortionate £9.99 per night (or £26,99 for five nights) for wifi. Unfortunately our visit coincided with recent storms which resulted in a power cut for most of our stay. The first night prior to the power cuts we found staff friendly and helpful especially in the Bistro. The staff were excellent during power cuts giving us as much information as they had and they managed to supply cooked Breakfasts and a delicious […] evening Buffet as well as soup,tea and coffee throughout the day. The big log fires in the lounges were a boon as remainder of hotel a wee bit chilly and dark. The Manager and his bright and cheerfull staff are to be commended on their efforts. Großzügiges Bad, großes Zimmer mit gepflegter Sitzecke und Blick auf den herrlichen Park mitten im Naturschutzgebiet. Am Seeufer kann man Kanus, Bikes u.s.w. mieten. Hallenbad und Spa sind auch nach dem Check-out den ganzen Tag noch benützbar. Sehr gute Küche. Der Service ist "überbemüht" bis leicht arrogant.
