The gentleman who checked us in was friendly. The next morning when I dropped our key off, there was a woman in an office next to the front desk who actually walked out without greeting me. However, the gentleman who checked us in the night before was also there that morning, and wished us a safe trip. We couldn't tell if/when the restaurant was open, […] and were not given information upon check-in. I enjoyed how the room felt more like a bedroom than a hotel room. The bathroom wallpaper was in disrepair. What made me feel like the staff cared was that they placed a space heater in the bathroom. I liked that the whole feel of the hotel was that it was trapped in time, glorifying the 1932 Olympic history of the town. Read more

The Inn was very quaint and historical. The only problem with the Inn is that is doesn't have an elevator. They were very accommodating by taking our luggage and putting it on the dumb waiter to our floor. Extremely helpful.

On the upside, as one enters one gets the impression of older elegance. Also, bed was a comfortable memory foam mattress. In addition, very quiet. Front desk people were helpful On the down side, in contacting the hotel for late arrival the person was polite but curt. Dusty foyer. Dirty door and wall into bathroom (blood?). No ironing board in room […] or hair dryer...things my wife had expected. Shower was cheap with plastic tile board? It was an older building and must take that into consideration. The good: The room was neat, clean and comfortable. The maid service did a great job! They even paid attention to our "do not disturb" sign when we used it (I've had issues with that at other hotels in the past). The hostess & staff where excellent! Very friendly and helpful. The location was pretty good - the center of town, restaurants & 2 lakes are […] easily walkable. Based on these criteria I'd definitely stay here again. The bad: No public elevator. We stayed on the 2nd floor which wasn't bad, but LORD help you if you are on the higher levels and/or have heavy bags. Also the exterior of the hotel leaves much to be desired. My first thought when driving up was 'what did I get us into?'. To be fair, I got over that once I met the hostess and saw our room. Overall the place is nice. It's definitely old and could use some updates (IE elevator), but it has its charm. I'd recommend it for what it is and I would have little problem staying there again. Read more

Stayed at the Pines Inn for two nights, Jill and Frank were amazing Inn Keepers. They responded to every request promptly and happily. They helped us decide our outdoor activities on our first day, giving helpful advice on our options for the day. I booked this hotel as it was a good price and close to down town Lake Placid. My friend and I hiked some high peaks about 15 minutes away and then came into town. Jill was there to greet us, give a us a key and send us on our way. The room was nice, nothing too fancy and it served our purpose of a quiet and close stay to down town (about two blocks). […] I had forgotten a hairdryer and all I had to do was ask and there was one to borrow. We went to a wedding at High Peaks so the Pines Inn was convenient. The friendly family staff is the best part, the bathroom and shower, the worst part. Water oscillates from scalding to freezing with no in between, so our showers were short and scary!!

Hotel never changed bed linens or gave fresh towels even when they were evidentally dirty. Hotel does not have Central Air, only a window air conditioner in rooms, which is not nearly enough. Everything else was fine. Staff was very friendly.

The hotel is conveniently located in walking distance from the main shopping area in Lake Placid, and the staff were all very nice and pleasant. The decor was very pretty, especially in the lobby. This is an older hotel though, so it does not have the amenities we were used to from newer hotels. Nice and quiet. and clean. Very close to main street and cafes/stores My only issue was that there was no breakfast served there, but there is a cafe literally down the street and they do have a bar/restraurant on premises. They just didnt serve breakfast. And the hotel does provide coffee. Overall a very nice and pleasant hotel.

Old, shabby, dark and gloomy. No effort to make miserable rainy weather comfortable. Low voltage lighting everywhere, fireplace unlit, no heat, no sound proofing,....only "comfort" was coffee at 7:30. Not even kleenex in rooms. Really a disappointment. Beds were great and rooms were clean, but owners need to really work on overall ambience.

The Pines Inn was a quirky combo of B&B and hotel. Once we figured out how things ran it was great. the place is owned and operated by a mom and pop with a young son.. the parlor/lobby has a huge dining table and people got carry out and ate on the lace table cloth, my friend and I watched a football game in the lobby and met a few of the other guests.. […] We all had a great time.. good location and excellent hospitality, but that's about it. It is an old building with charming décor in the lobby, but is in dire need of major upgrading. Towels supplied with paperthin, amenities were scant, wallpaper was peeling throughout the room, television and the room was tiny. A positive note is the fact that there is a restaurant on site […] with the bar, large lobby with fireplace, weight room with so no, and a large hot tub, which was excellent after a long day of skiing. This inn needs rennovation badly. The wall paper in the rooms was peeling off, the faucet handle was broken, the shower curtain rod was broken, and the room furniture was dated. The advantage of staying here is that it is walking distance from the main street. I would look for better hotels in the area and avoid this inn if possible.

Maybe there are larger rooms with larger bathrooms but if not they need to combine a couple and make a real room. They apparently have food on certain nights but it would really help to have a small breakfast. There is plenty of room but it seems they are more interested in staying in their housing area.

The room was clean. The Hotel is a 1930's vintage hotel. The room was small by todays standard. We were on the second floor and there was no elevator. Lugging our luggage up to our floor was a bit much. The people were very nice. In its day it was the place to stay. It was okay for us because we didn't spend much time there.
