"Lara is the gem of this location"
The room was very adequate. It is right on a bus line from the train station. Breakfast was good. The gem of this property though is the proprietor, Lara. She is so helpful and speaks excellent English. I would highly recommend this location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Excellent owner, slightly inconvenient location"
We were greeted by a very accommodating and kind owners that are husband and wife. We stayed in a very spacious room and there were other visitors from the U.S. The only thing we weren't 100% happy about was the slight inconvenience in getting to the center of the city.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best place in Florence"
Stayed here for two nights while touring Italy this summer. Loved the location of this b&b. You can walk from there to town or to the train station but is in a residential area so you don't hear the city noise. The breakfast was great and you can even eat outside on your balcony. Our host, Lara, was also great! She speaks very good English and helped […] us plan our Tuscany tour. Whenever I go back to Florence, I'll be sure to stay here again! Lara was a lovely hostess and this was a great B&B for the last night of our honeymoon. Our room, Number 2, was perfectly clean and comfortable for the two of us. It was not quite as private as I usually like, but worked very well for one night.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location for airport and downtown"
It's a small, local place to stay that is easy to get to the airport or to the sights downtown. But most of all, Lara was wonderful from the beginning to make sure that we were comfortable and great to offer as much information for our stay. It's a small 5 unit B&B type apartment which is so Italy!.We loved it and would stay again. The rooms are close […] together and the walls are thin but there is also a great balcony for afternoon or morning relaxing. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed for 3 nights. Laura and Lorenzo are such lovely hosts. Warm, friendly and helpful with advice, maps, directions. Breakfast is simple and nice. We loved the bread/cake homemade by Laura's mum. Room is very clean and fresh. Location wise, it's 10min bus ride and 20min walk from Firenze SMN station. As it's not right in the tourist centre, we […] like the quieteness after a day in the city. There are nearby restaurants, pharmacies and supermart and a cinema 5-10min walk away. Sensazione just around the corner serves good food at affordable prices. All in all, great place and better hosts! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Average clean accommodation - overpriced"
We (a couple) stayed at this b&b in October 2013. The location is average, a good 25 min walk to the city centre, accessible by bus. The rooms were very basic, small but clean. The host was friendly and nice. The negatives: 1. The most annoying part was the host was speaking to someone in the apartment in Italian late afternoon and early morning. […] This was very disturbing as the rooms are all close to the dining area. 2. The breakfast was very very average, supermarket croissants and not much choice that looked appetising. Felt cheap and not worth the 65 euros we paid for one night. Overall not recommended if you are looking for a nice relaxing place close to the city centre Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Warm friendly welcome from a clean comfy B&B"
I went to Florence with my mum so I was apprehensive about whether we had a nice place to stay. I needn't have worried - we had a lovely stay at Il Grillo. The rooms and the B&B generally were very clean and comfortable. The owners are a pleasure to meet; Lara is lovely - very helpful and welcoming, and we were sad to say goodbye. I would recommend […] staying here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Affordable & great service"
Really enjoyed our stay here. The room was clean, large and had a lovely balcony attached to it. Shared bathroom was kept in immaculate condition which made the stay alot more pleasurable because we were concerned with a shared bathroom but it was fine. Check-in was smooth. Lara was super friendly and helped as much as possible, provided maps and recommendations. […] Breakfast was decent. Pizza place downstairs was delicious and affordable also. Our aircon kept turning off in the middle of the night which was a little uncomfortable but aside from that it was great. Really helped that Lara was so lovely, i think she really makes this place worth coming back to. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Propre, calme et super accueil. Un bar sympa dans le quartier ainsi que 2 ou 3 restos et un supermarche. A 10 mn de bus de la vieille ville.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

This bnb is just as described. Welcoming, comfortable, clean and very, very well located. Even at peak times the bus will have you at the Duomo in 10 minutes. When we're back in Florence we wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. Being slightly away from the centre gives easy access to really good 'neighbourhood' restaurants - good food at decent prices in a happy atmosphere. Best of all is a geleteria round the corner that serves ice cream like it should be! Made on the premises this ice cream was a special treat . . . several times! Wish we could've brought some home.
"A delightful stay"

Needed just one night in Florence before moving on to our Tuscany villa. We were so happy with our stay, we tried to get another night later in our trip. Unfortunately, there was no availability. Lorenzo and Lara were very welcoming and made us feel comfortable all through our brief stay. The terrace off our room was a lovely place for breakfast. The wi-fi worked well (not always true when traveling in Italy. The bathrooms were immaculate and appeared to be recently updated.
"Cuddly and family-like B&B tucked away from the mass confusion"
10/12/14 sanstefano Sicilia
I absolutely loved my stay at this incredibly cuddly and family-like B&B run by a wonderfully warm, honest & lovely "mamma Fiorentina". She greeted me at my arrival w/ a big smile, a WiFi pass & sat me down and explained how to visit all the places I absolutely had to see. The rooms are perfect, simple, very clean & her rates are incredibly reasonable compared to what the rest of the city of Florence charges. The B&B is a 20 min walk from the S.M. train station, which I easily found w/ Google Maps. Still have to see all that Florence has to offer so...I will definitely be coming back to Lara's B&B w/ my pals & girlfriend.

Lara could not have been more helpful. Our stay was an absolute pleasure. Lovely breakfast, close to centre - easy walking distance or right on bus route. A place I can recommend without hesitation. We will be back.
"Superb hosts, Great location, Excellent choice in Florence!"

After reading many many reviews of small hotels and B&B's in Florence, we chose Il Grillo di Firenze based on the experiences of others here on Trip Advisor. Although we travel to Europe every year for 3 weeks, we had never been to Italy. What a pleasant surprise we found at this remarkable B&B. Everything that has been written about Il Grillo is 100% true and then some. From the moment we arrived to the sad goodbye 5 days later, we were enchanted by the hospitality of Lara and Lorenzo. The location is an easy bus ride to the city center by the 22 bus. The rooms are on the 6th floor of an elevator building in a very safe neighborhood and if you choose to walk to the center it is an enjoyable 20 minute walk. Our room had a small balcony, a nice bathroom with shower, and was maintained everyday while we were out. This B&B gets very high marks for cleanliness and comfort. Lara and Lorenzo do everything possible to ensure you have a wonderful experience in Florence. I traveled with my partner and we had many opportunities to interact with our hosts. They are genuinely interested in your visit to Florence....not just your business. A brilliant feature of Il Grillo is the covered terrace off the breakfast area. There is a great view and it is available whenever you want whether to eat, drink coffee (always available in the kitchen) read, or just relax. Breakfast is provided and is more than adequate. There are cakes, meats, cheese, cereal, and breads to give your day a wonderful start. When you arrive, Lara will give you a map and go over directions to the principle sights in the city. She also suggested additional places we might want to go if time permitted and her advice was always spot on. She recommended several restaurants also and they were both great choices. There is no language problem here. Both Lara and her husband, Lorenzo are reasonably fluent in English. As far as other languages, I do not know. Lara can sell you passes for the bus or you can buy them at some shops or the train station. Lorenzo gave me a great tip on buying local goods to take home. There is a supermarket 3 blocks from Il Grillo. You will save lots of money if you buy your wine, lemoncello, or olive oil there. I purchased mine for less than half what it would have been in a more touristy area. These folks are the real deal and you could not make a better choice of a place to stay in Florence. Choose Il Grillo di Firenze and you will not only be treated very well... you will be welcomed as a friend. We made an excellent choice! Thanks so much Lara and Lorenzo.
"Great base for Florence"

Just a 10 minute bus ride from Santa Maria Novella rail station, this is a great base to stay and sightsee Florence. Lara is very welcoming and friendly and multi-lingual. The room was comfortable, clean with an excellent bathroom. You could sit on the balcony for breakfast if you wished with coffee on tap. She is very knowlegeable and helpful on what to see and can advance book some museum/gallery tickets if you desire. I would not hesitate to book again in the future.
"Clean, comfortable,welcoming B&B"

Easy to find by car's GPS, we were buzzed into the building by Lorenzo and took the small lift up. We were greeted by pleasant, welcoming hosts and roomy, bright, sparkling clean air conditioned rooms with private ensuite bathroom and balcony. The common area kitchen where breakfast is served is also bright and clean with tables indoors and outdoors on the sunny balcony. Very quiet, relaxing atmosphere from which to explore Florence.
"Wonderful start to holiday in Italy!"
I chose Il Grillo Firenze because of the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor and they were right! My stay exceeded my expectations. On arrival Lara gave me all the information I needed on Florence and booked a day trip for me and Lorenzo made my coffee and breakfast every day! The balcony was lovely for breakfast looking over the rooftops to the hills. I stayed 6 nights and my room was perfect and immaculate! Pizza restaurant around the corner was really good. Bus stop a few metres from door and just a few minutes to central Florence. Great neighbourhood. I travel alone and I always felt safe coming home late at night. I would definitely recommend Il Grillo Firenze for your stay in Florence. Thank you again Lara and Lorenzo!!
"Amazing stay!! HIGHLY Recommend! "

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights in Florence, and right away we knew we made the right choice. As soon as we walked through the door Lorenzo welcomed us with a warm smile, sat us in the lovely kitchen/dining area, and got us a tea and coffee. He took the time to go through the city map with us, pointing out all the attractions and how to get there (making sure we knew how to walk there or take the right busses if we wanted). He recommended delicious places for dinner that were close to the B&B, that had good prices and weren't crowded with tourists. Our room was everything we needed and could have asked for. Everything was clean (cleaned daily), especially the bathroom (which each room has it's own). The beds were also really comfortable and the streets were quiet for a good nights sleep. My favourite place though was the breakfast balcony. Complete with tables and a comfy couch, you can eat your breakfast with a spectacular view of the mountains/hillside with the town below. It's also covered so you can eat there rain or shine :). Lorenzo makes sure you want for nothing, bringing you your tea and coffee, quickly learning how you like it. It also impressed me that he made sure he learned our names. Little things like that go a long way! Without a doubt the best place to stay in Florence! Thanks Lorenzo! - Toni & Brandon P.s the coffee is excellent!!

This is an outstanding B&B, from the time we arrived we were treated extremely well. The rooms, common area kitchen and patios are extremely clean. The kitchen is well equipped. Lara and her husband were very helpful with our planning of sights to see and buses to take. There are maps and tourist literature available. The breakfasts were plentiful with a lovely assortment of breads, cereals, jams, meats, juices, milk, fruit and yogurt to choose from and the coffee is alway freshly brewed. Most of all though, was the friendlyness of this couple. This will be my first choice if I return to Florence. Ed Jackson
