"When in Florence, stay here!"
Stayed in many places in Europe this summer and it was our favorite. If there's a word stronger than hospitable, that's what our hosts were. They were fabulous and truly made florence special. The room isn't large, but it's clean, comfortable, and had a balcony. The shared kitchen and outdoor balcony overlooking the Tuscan mountains really contributed to a homey stay. Check in was above and beyond and breakfast was great. Nothing was too much trouble for Lara and Lorenzo. They truly wanted us to have an amazing experience and we did. And for the value, there's no way anyone could convince me there was a better place to stay. If you're in Italy looking for value and b&b type experience, which I think is best in this particular area, than look no further than here! You won't be sorry.

"Lara is the gem of this location"
The room was very adequate. It is right on a bus line from the train station. Breakfast was good. The gem of this property though is the proprietor, Lara. She is so helpful and speaks excellent English. I would highly recommend this location.

"Excellent owner, slightly inconvenient location"
We were greeted by a very accommodating and kind owners that are husband and wife. We stayed in a very spacious room and there were other visitors from the U.S. The only thing we weren't 100% happy about was the slight inconvenience in getting to the center of the city.

"Best place in Florence"
Stayed here for two nights while touring Italy this summer. Loved the location of this b&b. You can walk from there to town or to the train station but is in a residential area so you don't hear the city noise. The breakfast was great and you can even eat outside on your balcony. Our host, Lara, was also great! She speaks very good English and helped us plan our Tuscany tour. Whenever I go back to Florence, I'll be sure to stay here again!

Lara was a lovely hostess and this was a great B&B for the last night of our honeymoon. Our room, Number 2, was perfectly clean and comfortable for the two of us. It was not quite as private as I usually like, but worked very well for one night.

"Great location for airport and downtown"
It's a small, local place to stay that is easy to get to the airport or to the sights downtown. But most of all, Lara was wonderful from the beginning to make sure that we were comfortable and great to offer as much information for our stay. It's a small 5 unit B&B type apartment which is so Italy!.We loved it and would stay again. The rooms are close together and the walls are thin but there is also a great balcony for afternoon or morning relaxing.

Il Grillo di Firenze was spacious and extremely clean. Our room opened onto a nice terrace where we could eat breakfast, or drink wine in the afternoons. Our bathroom was nice, and seemed recently remodeled. Lara and Lorenzo, the proprietors of the B&B were incredibly sweet and helpful, providing us with maps, directions, and useful info for shopping and eating. The decor is not fancy, but it was comfortable, and we were overall very pleased with our stay.

"Lovely hosts"
We stayed for 3 nights. Laura and Lorenzo are such lovely hosts. Warm, friendly and helpful with advice, maps, directions. Breakfast is simple and nice. We loved the bread/cake homemade by Laura's mum. Room is very clean and fresh. Location wise, it's 10min bus ride and 20min walk from Firenze SMN station. As it's not right in the tourist centre, we like the quieteness after a day in the city. There are nearby restaurants, pharmacies and supermart and a cinema 5-10min walk away. Sensazione just around the corner serves good food at affordable prices. All in all, great place and better hosts!

"Average clean accommodation - overpriced"
We (a couple) stayed at this b&b in October 2013. The location is average, a good 25 min walk to the city centre, accessible by bus. The rooms were very basic, small but clean. The host was friendly and nice. The negatives: 1. The most annoying part was the host was speaking to someone in the apartment in Italian late afternoon and early morning. This was very disturbing as the rooms are all close to the dining area. 2. The breakfast was very very average, supermarket croissants and not much choice that looked appetising. Felt cheap and not worth the 65 euros we paid for one night. Overall not recommended if you are looking for a nice relaxing place close to the city centre

"Warm friendly welcome from a clean comfy B&B"
I went to Florence with my mum so I was apprehensive about whether we had a nice place to stay. I needn't have worried - we had a lovely stay at Il Grillo. The rooms and the B&B generally were very clean and comfortable. The owners are a pleasure to meet; Lara is lovely - very helpful and welcoming, and we were sad to say goodbye. I would recommend staying here.

"Best B&B We've stayed in"
07/30/15 Jay G Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
My family and I stayed here for three days and absolutely loved it! Lorenzo and Lara are extremely welcoming and friendly. When we first arrived Lorenzo brought out a map and circled for us can't-miss places to visit and also explained the best buses to take throughout the city. The bus to get into the center of Florence is literally steps outside the door, so the location is very convenient (it is also close to the train station, only a couple minutes by taxi or 15-20 minute walk). The B&B is on the top floor of the building, but thankfully there's an elevator, so you don't have to lug your suitcases up all the stairs. The rooms are a good size and are cleaned every day! The two rooms we stayed in also had a balcony which was a nice plus. (they also have A/C which was a must since we stayed during July) The breakfast is an assortment of pastries, meats, cereal etc (typical Italian breakfast), and the B&B has an espresso machine so Lorenzo or Lara will make you any type of delicious coffee/espresso you want. During breakfast one of the owners is always there to answer questions and provide any last minute info that you want to know for the day, including option of providing you with family bus passes for only a couple euros (which was great because we didn't have to stress about buying bus tickets). Overall, this was a great experience and I would recommend this B&B to everyone and especially families.

"Best value, best hospitality in Florence!"
07/24/15 FIT4TravelNow St. Petersburg, Florida
I can't even begin to say enough about our stay at this little b&b in Florence. But I'll try! We've been traveling all over Western Europe this summer for 6 weeks and after reading reviews, I was most excited about this stay, and it didn't disappoint! We experienced an excellent stay the days prior in venice in similar accommodations, but Lorenzo & Lara went even beyond here in Florence. Check in was incredible as was our entire stay. It is clear they both have a genuine passion for hosting guests. In the best possible way, It felt like we were guests in their home. I'll address a few highlights in particular. First, as I mentioned check in... Lorenzo was expecting us, gave us an awesome welcome, introduced us to the property and literally sat us down at a dining table and gave us all the ins & outs of Florence. Next, the location, which was located about a mile from town, but the area itself was quiet, had some good restaurants and grocery stores close by, and was right next to the bus stop so getting around was easy. We still walked everywhere (and rented bikes.) the view from the terrace was excellent. The shared kitchen was a major plus as it was nice to be able to cook our own meal when we so desired. The breakfast was awesome. Not necessarily a traditional English breakfast (no eggs) but it was way better than most European continental breakfasts and the cappuccino was excellent. They really went out of their way to ensure you were happy. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was not large, but fair size, comfortable bed, and very clean. The addition of the shared living space definitely helped. Our room even had its own balcony which was nice. With all this said, it was an absolutely delightful stay, and even with all that the price was more than fair. I'm sure we could have spent much more and received much less and would have never known otherwise. But when in Italy, this would be the type of stay I would desire and certainly recommend. And in this particular area, there's no need to look any further than Il Grillo di Firenze for your accommodation needs in Florence. Big thanks to our hosts for being so wonderful. Best of luck in the future and if you're reading this, I hope you find yourself sitting on their terrace overlooking the Tuscan hills sipping on a freshly made cappuccino like I was thinking of how fortunate you are to have come across this little gem. :-)

"An excellent place to stay for the traveler on a sight seeing stay"

The rooms were clean, tidying spacious. The owners are friendly and incredibly helpful in helping you get your bearings in the city and the breakfast is fine. If you stay here get a bus day pass to get around the city as its a bit of a walk from the centre. Day passes for a couple/family are on €6.

4 nice days in this bed&breakfast a bit off center of Firenze, but very easily reachable by bus. Simple breakfast which you could take on a very nice terrace. The rooms, bathroom and the common kitchen were always clean. Incredibly nice hosts which made my stay very enjoyable. Lorenzo and Lara are friendly, competent and always ready to help.

The main city center is 10 mins or less by bus that stops right outside. The host Lara is very personal and helpful. She gave us a ton of details on what to see. We checked in early and it was no problem (and had breakfast on the check-in day as well). The fresh hot Cappuccinos were great. The room was so clean and the balcony was great. One of the best places I have stayed in. If the dates work for you - take it!

"Excellent, friendly and economical"

If all you want is a bed in a clean room then stay here. The friendly welcome, tourist information, nice breakfast, access to a kitchen and a terrace all come as free add-ons. For the price you cannot expect to be in the centre of town so just hop on the number 22 bus outside of the train station and pay the driver €2. Il Grillo does not have a huge sign outside (it is a B&B not a hotel) so look for the house number. There are a couple of good supermarkets nearby if you are looking to avoid tourist rip off prices charged in town. Also there are a couple of eateries to try good that are good value.

06/24/15 garry4366 Leeds, United Kingdom
It's in an apartment block on the sixth floor, although there is a lift. It is a 25 minute walk from the train station but there are plenty of buses that stop nearby. We had room 2 which had a small double bed although it was comfortable enough. Breakfast was disappointing, little variation and quality was lacking, as was a decent cup of coffee, better machine required. Main issue was the air conditioning unit which, when in use, let out an intermittent buzzing sound throughout the night seriously affecting quality of sleep. It was pointed out but nothing could be done. Our last two nights were spent sweltering but at least it was quieter. Lara the host was great, very helpful but nothing could disguise the fact that this was a cramped and soulless b & b.

First class accommodations , easy bus trip,or a nice walk to the city center. Lara and Lorenzo were great hosts right from the first email. Lara has extensive experience in the hospitality buisness and it shows . Very comfortable and clean. Our room had a balcony with a clothes line. Very helpful for extended trips. Great local restaurant recommendations . The best home made Gelato right around the corner. Of course Lara will also help with your bookings to see the sites in this amazing city. A great tip was to take a side trip up to Fesoli. Thanks for a great stay.
