The Howbeck is perfect in every way - from the four-poster bed to the amazing breakfast to the complimentary bedside sherry - you can't ask for more. The staff is delightful and very helpful, making dinner arrangements and providing weary travellers with tea in the lounge. The facility is very well-kept and beautiful. There are many properties to choose from but I'd stay at the Howbeck again in a heart-beat.

As an American, I first have to get past the sticker shock of traveling anywhere in the U.K. This is really true in popular areas like the English Lake Country. This hotel was a good location for us — good service, food, parking and easy accessibility. But like many U.K. accommodations the rooms are small, 1950's furniture with inadequate room plugs, and no in-room wifi. We'd return, but only because other affordable choices are limited. It's clearly an upscale B&B area.

Location.
Located in Ambleside (Lake District), Lake House is close to Armitt Museum and Gallery, Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole, and Wansfell Pike. Also nearby is Rydal Mount.

Comfortable and clean, welcoming staff although room was not ready on arrival despite early booking premium. Mattress was a bit too soft and the bed head was not secure. Suggest a supply of fruit teas or similar rather than just PG Tips and instant coffee. Ensure drivers are capable of reversing as access is a blind steep single track drive.

This was a fantastic B&B, with friendly and helpful staff, the room was stunning with an amazing view over Windermere. The only slight disappointment was that the breakfast was a hot buffet and not freshly cooked. We would recommend a stay here and will be back soon!

exactly as described with excellent food, facilities and service. free dvd rental for a rainy night in, took about 15-20 mins to walk into the centre of ambleside but was a very pleasant walk

The Lake House is located in Waterhead, Ambleside and overlooks overlooks Windermere albeit across the main road. It has an elevated position. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The room was spacious. (It had a double and a single bed) and had a lake view. Breakfast was buffett style but only small amounts of hot food was put out at ony one […] time which was then regularly topped up with freshly cooked food from the kitchen. Good idea!!!! DVD'd available to watch in your room. Hotel doesn't do evening meals but can arrange for you to have "a cosy night in" .(limited menu) with food from their sister hotel 100 mts away Hotel conveniently sitated for Ambleside, about a 5 min walk. It was tidy, clean and very homely with a modern TV with inbuilt DVD player which we put to good use as the hotel offers a good selection of movies to watch at no extra cost.
