"Domus, a home for travelers."
Sant Agnello, where the Domus is situated is one stop away from awesome Sorrento. When you book, be sure to print yourself a map to go get to the residence, which is about a 25 minute walk from the Circumvesuviana train which takes you there from the Napoli train station. The view of Mount Vesuvius is awesome, as is the garden overlooking the cliffs of the Mediterannean, and the surrounding mountain views.

"Lovely setting/scary walk to get there!"
First of all, we thought the hostel was in Sorrento, not in faraway suburb, Sant'Agnello. We had to take another train to get there. Then the fun began. I knew from other reviews that there was a 15 minute walk. With luggage that is a disaster. The road in front of the convent/hostel is very, very narrow and we truly have to cling to buildings when cars came by. It was dark and very dangerous. Had to call out for pizza because we did not want to try the road again. The hostel is very nice, run by wonderful nuns who were very kind. However, we decided to get another place in actual downtown Sorrento for the next night, paying for the second night because it was too late to cancel. If the hostel had been in Sorrento, on a road that was walkable, we would have loved to have stayed another night. If a guest has a car it is perfect, although a little out of the way. Hated to fork out more money, but it was worth it.

This was my second stay at Domus San Vincenzo. I chose this facility as I was traveling alone and knew it would be a very safe place for me to stay. I also stayed here for the view. Right outside my room was a terrace with the most spectacular views of the Bay of Naples, Mt Vesuvius, and the marinas. Please don't hesitate to stay here. The value for the money is well worth the harrowing walk to get there!!!

We thought the Hostel was in Sorrento. This made it a little more difficult to get to. As usual we were ripped off by the cab drivers charging us 30 Euros to go to St Agnello We had a wonder time and would recommend our stay to everyone.

"Amazing Amalfi"
Once I found Domus, I was relieved...it can be difficult to find, because it is not close to the train station. I stopped by a local food store, and the owner there told me how to find it. Also, it is not presently a "hostel". The nun who speaks English, Sister Clara, explained that it once was a "hostel", and is now a "pensione" managed by missionary nuns. Once you check in, walk out the back door, and gaze at Mount Vesuvius, which is across the bay, and peer down into the gorgeous water more than a hundred feet below...truly majestic and breath taking....It is quiet and peaceful...and a very short train ride to beautiful Sorrento, which should not be missed...actually ANY town on the Amalfi Coast is nothing short of spectacular !!!

We loved staying here. We had an amazing view of the Bay of Naples, and we loved the beautiful room and surroundings. We also enjoyed the kindness and serenity of the sisters. There was a walk from the San Agnello train station, but we didn't mind that. We also found it just fine to have to leave by 9ish in the mornings.

Very hard to find and no where near Sorrento. We had to drive everywhere and there really is very little parking in Sorrento. You need a very detailed map on your site. The nuns couldn't be nicer but had very little knowledge of the area. They only accept cash which we were not prepared for, and had to get to a cash machine to check out.

Run by nuns, I would not call this luxurious, but it is breathtaking. The entrance is spectacular with it's vaulted ceilings and terrazzo floors. The rooms are simple but clean. The only drawback was the lack of A/C in our room where the only window opened onto a busy street. We were kept awake by the cars, barking dogs, and a rooster that started crowing at 3:30 in the morning. Breakfast was good, served by nuns, and the rooftop patio served as our dining room for a grocery store supper. The view from it was unrivaled. Overall I think this was a positive experience that I would return to.

This hotel was superb. I went on holiday with my partner, travelling a couple of locations in Italy. We wanted to stay in an area which would not be as touristy as Sorrento and based on a recommendation from a friend went for Sant' Agnello. The nuns at the hotel are all very lovely and welcoming. The rooms are extremely spacious and cleaned daily. The breakfasts were similar to others we experienced throughout our stay in Italy, consisting of cereal, juices, tea or coffee along with bread rolls and a snack such as a croissant or cake. The hotel was located very close to Piano di Sorrento where it is a short walk down the hill to the beach. It is also a 15/20 minute walk to the train station where Sorrento is easily reachable. There are not as many restaurants locally as we had anticipated. One in particular was the worst experience of eating out we have ever had (La Ripetta ristorante) so we would recommend walking into Sant'Agnello town and going to Da Peppino. Here the food was lovely, service was fantastic and prices were reasonable. Just be aware the some of the rooms are close to the road. Our room for example was near to a busy corner where cars had to toot their horns to warn drivers from the other direction that they were approaching the corner. At night most tended to just flash their lights but others were not so considerate. Having said this, that is no reflection on the hotel or fault of theirs. We were really impressed with our stay here and would highly recommend to others looking for places around Sant'Agnello and Sorrento.

The Domus San Vincenzo is an oasis of calm and an excellent retreat from the business of Sorrento. One of the nuns speaks good English which is great when you have no Italian! It does lie on a narrow busy street which requires care. The buses and train are about 10 mins walk away as is a very nice local restaurant. The breakfasts are however a little basic.

"Stunning location, unique experience"
An ideal base to discover the Sorrento area and Amalfi coast, this is an amazingly good value guest with the added unique experience of being run by a small group of warm and friendly nuns. A 10-min walk from either Sant'Agnello or Piano stations (recommend consulting map/street view beforehand), the hotel is a pleasant 20-30 min walk to Sorrento or one stop on the Circumvesuviana line. There was a little confusion upon my arrival as the only English-speaking sister was not present, but I was warmly received. My single room was in the extension and overlooked the gardens with a fantastic view of Vesuvius from my window. Room and bathroom clean and well-equipped, but bed small. The gardens have table and chairs, and there is a fantastic sunroof with stunning harbour views, and sunset view of Bay of Naples and Ischia. Breakfast between 8 and 9am only - the usual very unhealthy Italian start of pastries/cakes! But there is juice, bread and cereals. There is a coffee machine. Only issue is that it's meant to be a peaceful retreat, but I had more peace and quiet in my room in the centre of Naples. The venue is obviously used for band practice and parties, so there was loud music every evening. A child's party went on until 11pm with the kids running around the gardens. Luckily I had the wonderful roof to retreat to. Not a major issue, but not quite the advertised spiritual atmosphere I was expecting. Also, having to be out of your room at 9am doesn't help with the relaxation.

"An amazing location and peaceful atmosphere"
We had a very pleasant stay Domus San Vincenzo. The location has an amazing view from a cliff across the sea and there is a sandy beach just 10 minutes away. The nuns are very clear on what they expect from their guests, but they are all very lovely. Note: they only accept cash payments, and the cash point is in the village (about 10 minute walk away). Also, we needed to look direction on google maps to find it.

"Absolute Bliss"
This is the most beautiful place to stay. the views were absolutely spectacular as this convent is on a cliff edge easily accessible by road, every morning I could take my coffee out to one of the the terraces and enjoy the spectacular views, the convent itself is beautiful and also a great place that cater for families so you don't need to worry about being quiet, the nuns are lovely and and keep to themselves and their duties, its a short train ride (1 stop) or 25 minute walk to Sorrento and I much preferred to stay here, a 5 minute walk to Piano with lovely restaurants and views, if youre a party animal maybe Sorrento is for you as there is a 11.30 pm curfew but if you let the nuns know you will be late they are pretty good about it, great place for families as they also provide gated parking, also wifi at 2 euros for1 hour, cash only no credit card facilities which was not a problem for me, I would come back and stay here in a heart beat, there was nothing I could fault about this place or its amazing location.

"are you in a monastery sometime?"
The explanation before book the hotel was very clear as regards is a Monastery. A great view from the cliff, a good price and some kind of mystery move me ahead. Altought the hotel was empty , the sisteres asigned us a room with view to the street and not to the sea. There were fixed hours to take a shower, not at the time you want. The wonderful view is from the terrace, not from the breakfast room (located in a basement). In summary: the nice view is if you decide be outside. The sistes are very educated and polite , but are not the same than an hotel employee. I think the place is very good for a lot for people , not for me.

"A vista é muito bonita desde o Jardim."
O local é um convento, são as irmãs que atendem. Longe de Sorrento e da estação de trem, e a caminhada logo na saída desta hospedagem é bastante desafiadora. Tem horário pra voltar a noite, senão não tem ninguém pra abrir a porta. O café da manhã é bastante simples. Elas cobram estacionamento e cobram a internet.

"An alternative style of holiday accomodation with stunning views!"
08/06/15 Laura C Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia
This place is qwerky and takes a special kind of traveler to want to stay in a convent instead of a flashy hotel on the water in Sorrento. The nuns were sweet but only one of the five ladies spoke English. The breathtaking views from the rooftop were where I spent most of my time...looking out across the bay over towards Naples and Vesuvius, surrounded by mountains, it truly was the best bit about this accommodation. The rooms were clean and tidy, fitted with the basics but I did find them quite hot with no fans or air conditioning. Just a warning. This really did shock me the first night and I needed to buy myself a little fan just to get through the week. The convent does have a small supply of fans so make sure to ask if you are going in summer, otherwise I am sure the heating systems in the room work wonderfully in winter. Also the rooms on the street are very noisy with a lot of traffic passing through so make sure you request one away from the street. The accommodation does have wifi but when I was there it wasn't working, the nuns didn't seem too concerned so just keep that in mind when passing free wifi cafes on the way home, because it is hit and miss at the convent. The breakfast is basic, but once again, keep in mind that this is not a hotel with a reception and staff on hand. So the toast, cereal, tea/coffee and juice was limited in choice but if you are not fussy and are happy to have breakfast included then this is fine. This convent is about a 15min walk from the Sant'Agnello where you can use an ATM, buy breakfast and do some grocery shopping on your way home from a day in Sorrento. The Sant'Agnello station will take you two minutes to get into Sorrento, about a 30minute ride on the busy train to Pompeii, Herculaneum is a little further and Naples is just over an hour, but this is the particular train that stops at ALL stops, there are express ones also. This convent is literally on the cliffs edge and looks down at the small harbor below which has public and private (paid) beaches. There is a lift about 100metres from the accommodation that will take you down to the water for 50cents each way. This is a lovely little spot if you don't feel like travelling into Sorrento and want some down time away from the tourists. This is definitely a place to remember with so much character and charm, set in a beautiful building with possibly the best views on the coast!

We arrived at the scenic property and were amazed!! The nuns were so nice. They assisted us and took us to our rooms. The property is very well maintained. Felt very welcome the entire time!! Great location to beach access, just down the road a bit and an elevator ride. Restaurants in walking distance. The property overlooks a marina/beach area and is along a busy street, so with traffic and late night parties at the beach, you may want to bring earplugs to sleep. Although, I was so tired from all the touring and boating, I slept through much of that!!

"Oasis of Serenity"
02/15/15 journalist92 Belgrade, Serbia
According to some beliefs, when angles come to the earth they first visit orphans, widows and nuns. My life experience showed me that abandoned children and grieving wives really receive special Divine blessing and comfort. On the other hand, I've never been sure how the nuns are truly ranked in angels eyes, but after my vacation to Sant Agnello, a suburban part of Sorrento, and staying at Domus San Vincenco, I realized that God’s messenger wouldn't bypass such a nice place. Perched on the clifftop and hugging the Naples bay, this small Catholic hotel, managed by group of five Catholic nuns, is perfect place for all of those seeking for peace, serenity and complete immersion with old style Italy seen in classic movies of 50’s and 60’s. Although only one nun (sister Mary) speaks English, it is not problem to understand the others,Italian-speaking nuns. The warmness of their communication stimulates you to learn basic Italian as a way to be responsive in atmosphere of unique hospitality and mutual respect. Although I booked the single room, the nuns surprised me with their decision to give me a bigger room with king-bed for the same price. Moreover, the room had its own balcony viewing the Vesuivuis and Naples Bay. Music of waves in November nights made me better to sleep. Despite of the fact that cloudy weather dominated the mornings, I was lucky to have sufficient number of sunny hours for my touring the town and surrounding area. Domus offers classic breakfast – croissant, jam, cream, juice, coffee or milk – and personally, it was sufficient source of energy to start my day as a solo – traveler. My special moments of breakfast were conversation with sister Mary helping to me to be more familiar with the town, Italy and Catholicism as a leading religion of Italy. As she comes from India, she also helped me to gain more knowledge about the country of her origin well known by cultural and religious tradition. Domus is surrounded with sea, the small port, hostels , house of locals and gardens with lemon trees. It gives you an opportunity to feel as a hero of romantic novels coming into small town and seeking for the love of his life. The Vesuviana train station is just a 10 minutes from the Domus, and it is the cheapest and most practice way to reach Pompeii, Herculaneum,Sorrento or Naples. On your way to Vesuvina, you will find a numerous of markets helping your budget. It is place where locals buy so I recommend it. For example, the water ( 1,5 l) /0, 34 euros while in small shop 0,5 l of waters costs 1 euros. Domus also have its own machine offering drinks and coffee with very afforadable prices. Booking of room in this kind of accommodation absolutely doesn't oblige you to follow any kind of religious practice, but there are some rules that nuns stress you when you are checking in. The leading rule is that the guest should be in their rooms no later than 11- 11.30 p.m. The nuns have their regular schedule and I would recommend to the guest to follow this principle. To be honest, no reason to be longer out of the hotel in this time of year ( November) given that touristic activities are reduced to minimum. Many of hotels are closed making pause before New Years celebration and locals usually are in their homes before 10 pm. It is very understandable bearing in mind that many of residents are actively participate in tourist business during the high season so they use this time of year for their own relax. Of course, if you are planning to prolong your staying out of the Domus, do not worry: it’s always possible to make a deal with the nuns, but you should always have in mind that late coming in the hotel disturbs their night rest. These women are like bees: they are hard workers, they wake up very early and they certainly deserve to have a their own resting hours. They will welcome you personally. And they will serve you breakfast personally. They will clean your room personally. Even the oldest nun among them contributes in all of these activities not hiding her good mood and optimism. So let’s give them respect for everything they offer you . And never forget: they have their regular prayers but it doesn't affect the guest privacy nor oblige guests to take participation in it. But if you want, the sister will pray for you, and the guests who wants to pray themselves can do it in special room. As a believer I am deeply grateful for positive thoughts and prayers they had for me and in my name. The nuns of Domus San Vincenco contradict o the stereotype about rigorous, cold and distanced Catholic women serving the Church and Gods. These ones create atmosphere of Italian closeness implementing themselves as unforgettable part of Sant Angello memories so I recommend you to visit this place without any doubts.

"It is what it is"

I feel a little bad giving this an average rating as the location and sisters are wonderful. Firstly, the location. Perched on the clifftop looking back towards Naples, the views are brilliant. Unfortunately, to get into the accommodation it is on an extremely narrow road where you need to park in the driveway with half your car jutting into the road to press a buzzer for the sisters to open the gate for you. Secondly the accommodation. The building has served many purposes in its life including orphanage, school and now convent for the 5 sisters. Now the sisters were all wonderful, only two spoke English and we dealt mainly with sister Mary. The rooms a very sparse which is fine, when I say space there is no kettle, fridge or any other convenience. Showers must be had during certain times, otherwise there is no hot water. We tried to hit the peak shower times, but alas, just have kept missing them by a few minutes as ours was always tepid. You must be out of your room by 9am and must be back before 11pm. This didn't bother us as we don't stay out late, but it is a consideration. When you go out, you have to press the buzzer to be let back in. I know this makes the place sound awful but it really isn't that bad and we enjoyed our stay here. We had booked this numerous months in advance and had requested an ocean view room as we had heard the road noise was bad, but unfortunately we were not given our request and did have to put up with road noise. Would I stay here again, probably not. With no kitchenette facilities, the money we saved on the rooms was eaten up buying meals elsewhere, so it was a false saving. If you want cheap accommodation and you are happy to travel some distance to have your meals, this could work out well.

"Perfect for two nights"

If you do not have high expectations but you are at the Sorrento area for the movida or to stay out the whole day and crush the night... perfect place to stay at the Domus San Vincenzo. I can guarantee that you will have the best moka of your life. The nuns are great. You can get to the bus stop on foot and then it is only 15 min bus ride to Piazza Tasso, center of Sorrento. By taxi it is shorter 7-8 minutes and cost 25 euros.

"What a gem!"

A pleasing sight is when you arrive and think, this is just what I'd imagined it to be. Away from the busyness of Sorrento, this is a quiet recluse. A 10 minute walk from Sant Agnello station; sometimes a little challenging with luggage because of the walkways on the roads. You cannot help but feel relaxed by the ambience of the location and the friendliness of Sister Clara and her delightful colleagues. We left the balcony doors open at night to hear the waves and feel the sea breeze. Take the nearby lift down to the beach for a swim or take in the spectacular views of the Bay of Naples. Our room was large with antique furniture and a large balcony and bathroom. Limited restaurants nearby but a few up in Sant Agnello near the station. Regular suburban buses to Sorrento on Line C pass regularly from a stop 5 minute walk from the hotel. Otherwise it's an interesting and worthwhile 25 minute leisurely walk. The bus to Amalfi Coast leaves outside the coffee shop opposite the Municipal Plaza near the train station. Tickets need to be bought from the tobacconist before boarding.

"great views, pleasant stay"

Location: if you dont have a car, then its a good walk from St Agnello station, which becomes a lot with luggage or when you are tired. However, this is on top of a hill, and stunning stunning views of sea and mt vesuvius. Room: I think we had the best room. quadrupple spacious with a huge private terrace. Really awesome. There is no AC which wasnt much of an issue once you open windows. The rules of the place are that they change sheets and provide new towels after 3 days. this was a bit uncomfortable as the room is not made up every day. towels provided are sufficient to last for 3 days. Breakfast: ok. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
