The rooms were small but there was plentiful hot water for showers and lots of heat in the unusally cold weater. Paddington lStation and tube is less than two blocks away - fantastic. You can leave the hotel and pick up the Heathrow Express and be at the airport in less than halof an hour!

If you accept that hotels in London are pricey, the Castleton gives you good value relative to paying much higher else where. Although the hotel staff was very pleasant, and the location to the train station very convenient, the lift was broken and our room was on the third floor. Our room was in the basement. It was small, and there was a very slight musty odor at that level. Overall, it was clean and convenient. The bathroom was a one piece module that you might find in a train or airplane. It was 3 ft by 5 ft in size. The hotel's location was ideal for my needs and the staff were very friendly. My room was small to say the least but that was not particularly an issue; however, I did have an issue with the bed while it was a standard size it was between 2 walls meaning there was no room for my feet to stick out the end which is required for me. My biggest issue was […] though the lack of sleep firstly as a result of the noise within the hotel. The noise was nothing out of the ordinary i.e. people moving around, doors closing, lift all of which I heard throughout the night. In central London, one should expect to dig deep in one's pockets to get an okay room. Or, alternatively, get a room with shared bath in narrow, old, typically British hallways. I got the same impression of this hotel at first, which is why I couldn't find the bathroom. But there was one in the room, only it hid behind the door - so no problem. The […] room was probably not even 8x8 and the bathroom was the smallest I've seen. If you have very broad shoulders you probably need to step out of the shower to turn around (I had to). And if you are obese, the bathroom might be a problem for you. And if you are very tall, not that the bed is small (both length and width). In this sense, it is nothing like an American spacious hotel room. You will need to pay 5x as much for one of those. Despite the size, I really liked it. The room was comfortable, had television and A/C as well as well functioning bathroom and wifi internet connection. And, which is not all that common, a couple of extra power outlets for charging your phone or computer or whatever. The location is great - only a short walk from the Tube (subway) and quite easy to find. And the breakfast (included in the room charge when I lived there) was fantastic: typical hot and full British breakfast (bacon, sausage, two-style eggs, toast...) with table service. I was impressed considering the small rooms. Also, for those looking for that British feeling - this is a good start. The whole building is built around a (slow) elevator and the hallways spiral upward in four floors with rooms all around. This is the typical British architecture with a couple of stairs here and there and very soft carpeting. It was all well taken care of, yet gives you the authentic feel without having to wrestle other guests when going to the shared bathroom (which is usually the case in smaller and/or non-luxury hotels in smaller cities). I arrived late in the evening and was not given the room I had requested, overlooking the park. Instead I faced a brick wall. When I opened the window for air I could smell the fried fish from the chip shop across the road - in cool weather, not hot. The bathroom smelled of urine, except one day when the maid did a better job of cleaning. I wasn't given […] all the coffee supplies every day. At £59 for a room and breakfast it was very good value. The breakfast is good. The rooms and bathroom are very small. I think a couple could struggle with the size of the bed and room. I was a single person staying in a double room so it was fine.

Helpful people behind the desk make check-in/out a breeze. The room is bigger than some in London (which means it is small) with a comfortable bed. You require a sense of humour when taking a shower, it is comically small. The included breakfast was simple but good (great sausages, actually). The WiFi does some port filtering (no IMAP or IPSec VPNs […] allowed)... So some people (I'm one of them) might feel restricted about you can do on the Internet. Gmail and the like all work fine. I would not recommend the Castleton. I stayed for five nights to see the sights of London and thought that the hotel was not up to the price I was paying. My room was really small and had little more then the bed. The room did even had a bathroom it had a small pod 1m by 3m which included a toilet a small sink and a shower I could not turn around in. […] This pod made noise for up to a hour after use so if you got up to use it in the middle of the night you could not get back to sleep until it stop. If they did not charge the we for the full five nights when I check in I would have moved to another hotel. Read more

The receptionist who greeted us was very friendly. We got a room a few floors up, but it was facing the inside and was very dark. The room itself was small and the "bathroom" was tiny a pod. Basically, cupboard size and everytime you lifted your arms to reach for anything, you banged your elbows against the wall. There were a couple old chairs in the […] room, one of which had a massive stain on it, which looked more than suspect. That should not be considered acceptable! Otherwise the cleanliness was ok, but I did not look closely, considering the state of the chair. Sleeping at night was pretty impossible as the room was very hot and no matter what setting we put the airconditioning on, it did not cool the room despite being noisy. Breakfast was included, however chaotic and served in a basement. They have quite a lot of rooms, however breakfast was only on for 2 hours, which made it unpleasant. With an offer of either cornflakes or a very dry musli and a quite low quality full English and toast with cheap marmalade, I did not find it enjoyable. The price was good for that sort of location, but in hindsight I should have paid a bit more and get a more decent room, which I would have enjoyed coming back to. Read more

Stayed at the Castleton for a stay in London to go to a Hyde Park concert and to see the sights. The hotel was conveniently located for both Paddington and the park. The room wasn't that big but it was perfectly sufficient for it's purpose of somewhere to sleep, and it was clean. The air conditioning in the room was very welcome as it was a hot weekend. […] The on-suite bathroom is a module type, very small but enough for a short stay, if staying for a longer period I'd want something larger. I had read other review commenting on the size of the rooms, but mine was perfectly fine for me. Hotel was very nice and the staff was accommodating. I mainly wanted to be close to Paddington Station, so that I could get to Heathrow fast and was not planning to be in my room other than at night. Given those requirements, the room was fine. Our ground floor room was very small, with barely any space around the bed ... let alone for 2 large suitcases. The window offered a view of the air con well, […] with a sliver of sky high above. Got to say though, that there was no noise pollution. Bathroom was funky ... a plastic capsule that seemed to have been inserted into the room. It was basic but provided everything you needed: toilet, small sink and small shower with good water pressure. Was like a bathroom on a boat.
