"Needs a great deal of upgrading, but excellent breakfast"
We chose this guest house according to most of the positive reviews I had read. We had not wanted to stay directly inside the center of Bruges, and this place was a fine location as to being a 10-15 min walk to the town. It was not the easiest to get to but that is just b/c of the traffic set-up. our room was okay, small, a bit too warm and having the […] window open with no screen allowed a few pesky mosquitoes in at night. The condition of the guest house interior was not very updated. For the price we paid, and the fact that it appeared to be fully booked, there could be a bit of the profit put into some upgrading of the carpet. The enclosed patio eating area was quite lovely and the breakfast served was excellent. Our hotel host was polite and friendly, but I wouldn't say he was as warm and welcoming as others described. We were wondering if it was due to being American (not to feel insecure) but he did seem to be more engaging with the other hotel guests who clearly were from other countries other than the US. Overall, we felt this was our least favorite out of all of our hotel stays while traveling to many locations throughout our 2 weeks in Europe. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Friendly staff and quiet location"
We were very satisfied with this B&B for our stay in Bruges. My wife and I both enjoyed the walk to the city limits (10 min) as it was quite peaceful and safe. City centre was then only another 10 minutes walk from there. The B&B owners were polite, helpful and accommodating. They answered any questions we had and provided insight into the must-sees […] in Bruges. Breakfast was standard and the check-in/check-out was smooth. Be sure to let them know when you'll be arriving so you know they will be there otherwise you will have to call the number they have posted. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great room for the money"
This B&B is a great deal. Good location for the price. Just 10 minute walk to central Brugge. Nice neighborhood with grocery store and restaurants around the corner. Good option for families. Great breakfast in sunroom. Free parking a bonus!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A well maintained room with good bathroom in a nice hotel but be careful going up the stairs from the lobby as carpet is worn and could be a trip hazard. Unfortunately, we found the owner to be a little intimidating. We were disappointed with breakfast, having been told that this would be available between 08.30 and 09.30, we arrived at 08.50 and were […] bluntly told that there were no more eggs or croissants and we had to make do with what was left. "Bring a kettle with you"
Rooms were lovely, but main reception a bit shabby. Breakfast is limited so get down early before some one else eats all the pies. The Hotel doesn't supply hot drinks after breakfast so if you have been out all day make sure you take a kettle with you for a cuppa when you get back. Opening times for restaurants vary and its a good 20 min walk to the […] main town of Bruge so wear sensible shoes - especially on the cobbled streets. But you can always fill up on munchies from the Careforre supermarket next door to the hotel Also if you are planning to use their bikes - you cant as they have been left to be garden ornaments as apparently it is to expensive to get them serviced, bring your own. "A comfortable hotel and a friendly, helpful owner."
My fiancee and I very much enjoyed our stay at Gasthof Groenhove. The beds were comfy, the rooms had everything you would expect for a short stay, and the bathrooms were finished to a good standard with a nice hot and powerful shower. Hans, the owner, was very friendly and accommodating of our few, small queries and requests. Within a few minutes of […] arriving he had given us a useful run down of the main attractions of the town, marked on a map. Breakfast was tasty - a variety of bread rolls, cheeses, cereals, yoghurts and pastries, along with hot boiled eggs. The hotel is a nice, 20 minute stroll from the heart of the city, in a quiet residential area. We spent all our time in the city proper, so cannot speak for the quality of bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Clean and friendly"
Guest house/hotel about 20 mins walk from the centre of town. Hans, the proprietor is pleasant and will spend time when you first arrive to give you a map and explain where certain things to see are. The hotel is clean, and the rooms were spacious. The hotel is quiet, has pleasant gardens, and there is parking.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Interesting small hotel"
I stayed at the hotel during a visit to Brugge. The hotel is small in size and has a genuine feeling to it. The welcoming to the hotel was heartwarming and the information given about the hotel and Brugge was good and informative. Our room had a nice newly renovated bathroom with a bathtub for two. The bed was comfortably soft. The breakfast was good […] but nothing extraordinary. A hotel I would consider coming back to if visiting Brugge again.

"Wonderful stay in a beautiful hotel!"
01/23/15 Emily O
After arriving in bruges mid afternoon with no hotel booked, me and my other half found this hotel through trip adviser and I can safely say I'm glad we did! After locating the hotel on a quiet suburb just outside the city gates, we turned up without prior booking and we're very warmly welcomed by a lovely chap (unfortunately didn't catch his name) he sat us down and had a chat with us about what's best to see in the city as we were only there for an overnight stay. His recommendations could not have been more helpful and we saw some beautiful things the city had to offer. Hotel was light and airy and spotlessly clean! Our room was warm and inviting with a light, clean bathroom with a good size bath. Breakfast was lovley, orange juice, tea and freshley brewed coffee along with croissants, rolls, cereal, and a selection of meats and cheeses. walk into city it's self is a pleasant 10-15 walk and fairly simple. there is a supermarket just around the corner for any essentials you may need. The Indian restaurant on the corner is wonderful and a lovely choice for an evening meal. Also, the bakery just before the city gates if fabulous and their pastries are a must! Again cannot that the wonderful hosts for their hospitality and even after we checked out, the owner kindly let us leave our car for a few hours so me could finish of exploring! Would recommend to anyone visiting bruges and will definitely be returning in the future!
"Fantastic Place "
01/23/15 James H
Me and my other half spent the night here last night (22nd of January 2015). We paid around €80 for one night which we think was excellent value for money, we would of paid €100 and thought it was great value. The owners where extremely helpful. We were given great advice of where to visit and where to go, which was very helpful as while in the city the information centers for tourists can be hard to locate. The hotel it's self is in a lovely area with a useful car park and within a lovely surrounding. The hotel room itself was beautiful with an extremely comfortable bed with fantastic decor and amenities. Even the furniture in the place was lovely. The breakfast we were served was a typical continental breakfast with meats, cheese and pastries which were all extremely tasting (they even had nuttella for your croissant, can't go wrong), I can honestly recommend staying here its a fantastic place to stay and it in easy walking distance off the town centre. Around a ten minute walk up one road. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit.

This is an Old house converted. Fairly easy to find, and with good parking. There are a couple of decor issues which combined with tea/coffee facilities would make this a 5 star, however there appears to be some renovation work going on. Having said that...it is a great B&B and the Hosts Hand and Angelina are exceptional. I have stayed at others recently who could learn from these two. Extremely welcoming and helpful, without being intrusive. The room in general was large and warm (necessary in December). Breakfast was nice, sociable and a good start to the day. It is a reasonable walk (15 mins) to the city walls , very straightforward. Really enjoyed our stay here and would not hesitate to return.
"Nice spot (really a B&B) just outside the historic city center"
11/30/14 casilva54 Lafayette, California
The host, Hans, greets you right away and is very attentive throughout your stay. The property is a large home changed into a B&B style property. It is easy to find with your car and there is free parking on the property (very unusual). The room we had was very large with large windows and a large bathroom with a spa tub (a little tired). The only amenity the room lacked was a kettle/coffee maker. Your choice for eating in this area is slim but there is a very good restaurant (Pand 23) 5 minutes away. There are good choices just inside the city center boarder. It is about a 15 minute walk to those restaurants and around 25 minute walk to the main city center. The city center is very crowded on the weekends. If you don't like walking, you may be disappointed. The breakfast is good but basic; there is a small window of time it is served. Internet service is spotty. Overall, there is some attention to detail that prevents me from rating it 5 star; I would stay again without any reservation.
"Best night's sleep ever"

Oh, this hotel was lovely. Number 11 bus (I think) from train station took about 10-15 mins; easy, but look out for your stop. Get your ticket before you get on the bus, it's cheaper. Short 2 minute walk from bus stop to hotel. Friendly welcome by the owners on arrival. They gave us lots of useful information. Big light room, the comfiest bed ever (but an extra pillow would have been nice). We slept VERY well. Lovely clean bathroom too. Breakfast included was delicious with lots of variety. The owner makes fresh coffee for you too; a nice touch. Before we arrived we were a bit worried the hotel was not in the centre, but that was not an issue. We had a nice 20 minute walk in each morning, 10 minutes to the city wall then 10 minutes to the centre. Do visit the windmills which are to the North East side of the centre, quite near the hotel. Also, there's a little supermarket next to the bus stop near the hotel, which is useful. We stayed for 2 nights (after 4 nights in Amsterdam). You can see most of Bruges in about 1-1.5 days.
"3 night stay in Bruges"
11/01/14 Shaz17504 Newton Abbot, United Kingdom
Enjoyed a stay here for 3 nights whilst visiting Bruges with my husband and 16 year old son. I liked the location which was good if you don't mind walking into the main area of Bruges. it took about 15 minutes to get to the main square. It is in a quiet residential area set back off the road so no road noise, It was great being able to leave the car at the hotel and not use it for two days. The room we had was large with a fridge which incorporated a mini bar which we didn't bother with but the fridge was handy to store milk for tea, take your own kettle though as there isn't one provided. The bathroom was also large and is very clean and cleaned daily to a high standard. The breakfasts were very good with plenty to eat; rolls, croissants, cheese, ham, cereal, cake, orange juice and plenty of coffee and tea but no fruit. Hans the owner is very nice and gives out info and a discount card to all the guests. A few minor criticisms were that although I booked a triple room and the room had a lovely large double bed, my son who is 6'2" had to sleep on a smallish foldaway bed, I was expecting a proper bed for him, however it was ok and he slept well enough but I felt that it was a bit misleading calling it a triple room. The bathroom that was attached to our room did not have a proper shower it had a hand held one or you could put it in a holder that was a few inches above the bath which meant that you had to sit down to shower. It would make sense to put another holder further up so that you can stand to shower. There is also some noise from the upstairs rooms but this is because of the wooden floors.

We used previous Trip Advisor reviews to find this place. Very glad we did. Host Hans was very helpful and accommodating. Great bed, spotlessly clean room, good breakfast. As stated, a short walk into the old part of town. Could not have been much better.

"Wonderful Stay, Thank You Hans"
09/15/14 Chris M Glasgow, United Kingdom
Gasthof Groenhove was a fantastic little find for my partner and I, and I would not hesitate in recommending this quaint, charming little place to anyone thinking of visiting the beautiful city of Brugges. Upon arrival, we were greeted by an absolute gentleman by the name Hans, who sat us down and gave us a full day's itinerary of what to do, see and enjoy in Brugges whilst at the same time, avoiding the potential tourist honey pots which are dotted around the city. His enthusiasm and love for his city was infectious; we simply couldn't wait to get out and about (although at the same time, we could have listened to Hans' enthuse about his city all day!). Every piece of advice was bang on the money, and made for a great day and night of sightseeing and enjoying the delights of pretty little Brugges. Hotel wise, this is a secluded, quiet mansion house located around 15minutes walk outside the city centre. The gardens are well kept and the front of the house is very sweet and picturesque. Inside, it maybe has had slightly grander days and there is maybe a little bit of wear and tear here and there, but the guesthouse is clean and inviting, and has a real charm about it. The rooms are fresh and modern, though the walls are perhaps slightly on the thin side (especially when the room next door is occupied by the stereotypical American abroad tourist who enjoys relaying every aspect of their day to loved ones back home). However, it made for a very pleasant night sleep, and had all of the facilities which we required. Breakfast in the clean, cute patio was also a very enjoyable affair, with continental hams, cheeses and croissants. Hans was also on service to offer teas, coffees and fresh juice. Overall, a lovely, pleasant place to stay, made all the better by owner. Great value for money, especially compared to some of the chain hotels dotted around the city, and a place I would recommend to others who are visiting Brugges for a day or two.
"A fantastic place."

Hans and Angelina have to be the most welcoming hosts of anywhere we have been. The guest house is clean and tidy at all times, and the rooms are cleaned everyday to a good standard (poor Hans must be exhausted during busy times!). The location is excellent for heading out to anywhere, being nice and quiet, but also very close to all major routes if you are driving. There are a couple of local bistros at the end of the road, and also an Indian and a Chinese (the Chinese is outstanding). Our room was huge, with a large jacuzzi style bath, and had a nice view over the gardens. Parking on site is a huge bonus, and makes those day trips out very easy - you can also stock up on picnic items from the very well hidden away supermarket next door (you can't see or hear this from the guest house). Hans knows his country well, and points out many interesting things to see, and even told us about a great beech to go to in Holland.. Sounds a trek, but actually really isn't that far. Overall, a great experience. We loved it, and would happily go back.
